I think this is needed. Its burried in the other one....
Keep this thread open mods.please
The other one does not have a link
LoL
Page 19, page 20 & more...
You guys do realize the other thread, the first 20 pages was people bashing/trolling the OP saying it was fake right?
So yeah, I have no issues with this thread, also those people who were denying it, especially wesbalmer should apologize LOL.

Exactly So lets not have that junk here. Unless in the other thread the OP is updated with links...
and maybe even update this thread once we get a "root" update.zip too
Will this one work with the AT&T phones? Or are we still outta luck?

I'm closing this thread and moving your attachment to the original FRF72 one. We won't want people looking into multiple threads for the same thing. Thanks
Cyanogen is saying its a bug. Tmo is saying its a feature. which one is correct?
If it is indeed a bug how would tmo go about fixing our phones? mass recall? sweep under the rug?
If its a feature, is it a precursor to what future phones will be?
Either outcome isnt very good for the consumer and may lead to lots of lost customers for tmo. Specially after tmo releasing a statement that its a feature of the phone.
I love this phone, the very first smartphone i ever had, and was really looking forward to hacking around with it but its hard to justify such a device that locks you out of such features. I hope cyanogen and all the other great devs work out a solution to this problem. I dont want to send it back.
looked for similar threads and couldnt find any.

People are being jerks for sure, but OP, you should search better cuz your question has been answered in several threads. The short of it is NO. It is not a bug in the sense you are thinking. It is an intentional bug which tricks linux (android os) into thinking writes to the system files during root are being made when in actuality, the writes are only being written to cache. Once the cache is cleared during reboot the root access is erased because it wasn't actually written to the system in the first place. It's not a bug that needs to be fixed. It's a bug that was placed there to fool the system and make permanent root more...challenging.

There is a very informational Wiki out. Check it out. It will get you up to date with all the work that has been done towards root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2
The important part of the question.. for me.. is whether the Z has the same bugFeature.
I see one random user saying that they flashed a G2 rom on a Desire Z and nothing more. Have I missed something? Kinda hard to say yay or nay based solely on that.
"Intentional Bug" ????
If it's intentional, it's NOT a bug.

Thank you XfooYen for the info. I did a quick search before I posted(the posting page even searches similar post before you publish them) and found nothing similar. I will make sure to search more thoroughly next time.
I am familiar with the current situation with root, I just though that if a well known developer like cyanogen thinks that its a bug that maybe the readers of xda might want to discuss his possible ratonale for such a statement, then again that may not have been what he was trying to say and got it misrepresented by the media. Instead I saw nothing but irrelevent and pointless posts. For a second I thought this was gizmodo or engadget.
Thank you again. Its good to know that xda has readers who actually know what they are talking about and not just the average troll.

Actually, you're wrong.
RT @cyanogen: @garok89 yeah, and the statement tmobile made is technically wrong. theres nothing that restores the phone, its actually what i'd call a bug

Oh ****! Not another thread about Gingerbread!!!
This is getting so old...
Oh no, not another complaint about another thread!
Relax, it's not like i'm killing trees or taking up space by posting this. I didn't have time to go through the entire forum just to make sure i didn't hurt your feelings. A popup appeared showing possible similar threads, none of them matched, so i submitted it. No need to cry about it.

There are about 5 GB threads on the first page. Maybe you should start a few more because it will do a lot of good for all of us.

I can understand if the thread title was Google announcing Gingerbread!!!
But it's "Google announcing Gingerbread soon?"
With most thread titles, no one can tell exactly whats in the posts.
Just wait for the thread title "Gingerbread is here!!" and click no others than. Simple.

No problem, and i agree, all existing threads should consolidated or something. Hopefully there'll be no need for that if Google stops teasing us & releases 2.3 already.

actually they are teasing with us. they just dont bother their sorry ass to give a proper release date. they just dont even care about to give out an spesifications about the new system. nothing. just some fake news also new screenshots could be fake too. we simply dont know anything about new update. 4 example is the new crappy youtube app staying? what about horrible keyboard?
it just could be stupid update without any new features. also it could be something revolutionary like eclair. but we already knew them BEFORE the eclair released. were just waiting for google's jokes if whole gingerbread is just about some stupid skin and stuff.

Please tell me english isn't your native language, I'll totally understand then. Anyhow Google have 0 commitment to providing us with pre-release info. It's *UNRELEASED* therefore they could deny the existence of GB itself and are completely within their right to do so. These little bits of info like not so secretive tweets are just a bit of fun, surely I'm not the only one who likes the suspense/surprise regarding the lack of GB info?
I think we should all take a look at this.
As always, good job we have the outstanding Chainfire on our side

Anybody that reads a tech website knows about it. Samsung's already put out a press release acknowledging the problem. When it's fixed, I'm sure they'll know about it before we will and put out another press release. Nothing's going to hijack your device that you don't allow. Don't visit sketchy websites, download iffy apps with a low number of users, and don't accept certificates from website's you're not comfortable with. For the time being I'd disable "Unknown sources" in settings and enable "Certificates" in the browsers security settings. Samir pointed out earlier the naive could get in trouble accidentally. We here aren't naive.
May be i used the wrong word what i ment was an normal user who is a layman when it comes to tech and believe there are many on this site to who come for advice.
Will i still be able to update to the jellybean ota after this root method?
