Internet Explorer extremley slow and clunky. - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Sure zooming and scrolling is much smoother than android's stock browser, but the loading webpages for me takes much longer, and words are always blurry when i zoom in, whereas android is zippy and sites load MUCH faster. What can i do to fix this, and is anyone else having this problem?

Its very fast on my phone and much, much faster than my HTC Desire android phone. The scrolling is butter smooth, however due to the HD2 touchscreen driver the multi touch doesnt work well on wp7 but that is not an issue with the OS as it's fine on my 7Mozart.

Not sure what to tell you. IE on WP7 is MUCH faster for me, than surfing was on Android. And I don't get the blurry words when zoomed in, maybe luck of the draw, due to this not being a native os to our phone. Wish I had a solution to help you, but thought I'd let you know how mine runs so you'd get a better idea if it's os related or phone related, or something else.

yeah, mine is fine as well!
the touch screen bug is a bit dodgy but not to hard to work with
make sure if you are using two finges you hit the screen at exactly the same time with both fingers, also if a swipe dosnt work first time, try the exact opersite then do it again, that usually gets me going
as for your speed issue, perhaps its a network issue, do you have the same issue on wifi?
or perhaps its even another SD card issue...theres plenty of them if the card is only slighty duff so it could well be that if you have issues with wifi as well.

[XDA Mini S] Stability problems

Has anyone else had problems with this device locking up / running very slow? It only seems to happen when I launch a new app, but it doesn't seem to depend on which app it is. The device just has a go-slow and usually needs a soft-reset. Opening they keyboard does not rotate the screen any more, but does draw some pretty weird icons on the side of the screen ;-)
Interested to hear other people's experiences before I start digging to try and discover the cause.
Thanks
Daern
Mine seems to be running pretty well. Occasionally it'll slow down a little but not enough to affect running apps etc. I've not really had any more than a one second delay with screen rotation. Have you got the O2 Active UI installed?

Nope. It was awful with O2Active installed (as usual). Mine is configured in "basic" mode.
wizrd running slow
You have an 200Mhz device running WM2005.The ROM is not a final one ... improvments for o2 active are still made ( by the way the software is for unexperienced users mostly if you carefully read the setup panel)...So you just have to wait for the entire software to get improved

Ditching the X1, getting a new phone

Well after 3 weeks of use I have had it with my X1. It is the slowest phone I have ever come across.
Here are the problems im getting and I have just had enough of them
Phone can freeze when switching between landscape & portrait. Can take up to 2 minutes to figure out what its doing, sometimes its a hard reset
Fidilly interface, I use the SPB panel because of this which is great but everything else is just useless. Tried setting an alarm by rotating the hands? Its so fidily
I get a new message while im on my inbox and sometimes the message takes up to 2 minutes to load. Last night I was waiting 1minutes 43seconds for the message to open (yes I timed it) It just had that piechart icon rotating
Sometimes I cant open the messaging section. I click messaging and nothing happens. I can try to open it as many times as I want but nothing happens. I have to remove the battery..
By screen went green once, everything was green so I had to remove the battery to sort the problem
Doesnt always sync with my PC, no idea why
Cant remove hotmail contacts or sort the contact list because it just adds all my email contacts when I go online
Opera & IE are clunky and full of bugs. IE is slow as hell and cant open some websites. Opera keeps opening the virtual keyboard and changing between fullscreen and menu mode
Panels take a lifetime to load and freeze when switching between view modes
The crappy external speaker, who wants to hear a song full of white noise when you phone rings?
Battery icon - sometimes I have one, sometimes I dont
My signal on my phone seems poor compared to my old LG Viewty. Where I had a decent 3g signal I now get a poor standard signal, if a signal at all
Phone seems to have gotten slower and slower since I first started it up
There are a lot of things I do really like about the X1 but most of these are hardware such as the keyboard, the screen resolution, build quality, wifi, gps etc
I am seriously considering either swapping my phone via o2 or selling it and buying a new phone. I dont understand why interfaces and phones cant be as fluent as the iphone/ipod.
It does a lot of stuff yet the interface is as fast as hell. I am not a fan of the iphone itself due to its rubbish hardware specs but you can't knock the interface. Also I just got an ipod touch so there isn't much point in me having an iphone.
Personally i think the problem lies with WinMo as its very bloated and slow compared to proprietry operating systems or Android/iPhone.
Can anyone recommend me a good phone to get, I was looking at the Samsung Omnia but it doesnt have Wifi or GPS so its a no go really
Dude you must have a faulty phone, I've had mine for a couple of weeks now and haven't had most of the problems you have raised. However it was laggy and slow when I first got it and I still don't think the panels work fast enough to be really usable but once I changed the ROM it was MUCH better, more responsive, Opera actually makes browsing online a good experience!

The only faulty thing about it is the firmware, and when I went down that road with my Viewty being buggy as hell I got into the biggest of arguements with my network provider.
They didn't get what I was saying, they keep offering me the same phone as a replacement etc etc and I was nearly thrown of the network as they just winded me up so much.
This phone had high expectations from me and I have to say, it failed miserably. I decided to go back to SE after my LG as they were some of the best phones I had. But this phone just doesnt compare and I personally think its WinMo thats letting it down
i never experience any of the problems you mentioned above. May be it is a faulty unit.
Either a faulty unit, or filled with network bloatware! In short... not a problem of Xperia. When switching landscape to portrait it takes a second for me usually... at most 2-3 seconds. Same goes for other stuff.
I wasn't impressed with my Xperia at the beginning either... but after applying a few tweaks here and there and installing applications and stuff, it is by far the best phone ever! (and i am using the original rom - no cooked rom)
Maybe you should try installing a cooked ROM?
Either way... good luck with whatever phone you do decide to go with. I can, however, say with 99.999% certainty that most problems that you are facing are either due to a faulty device/firmware or is due to bloatware or something...
I did have the exact problems here, also did 3 of my friends who baught the phone.
It is crashing alot and is slow. However I think I will wait till the first firmware update.
But even if they didn't fix these problems, I don't really have an alternative phone, no phone has the specs I want except experia. I mean ofcourse other than win mo, because if it is a win mo phone you are seeking then know that all the win mo phones have the exact same problems, maybe less because they have been around in the market for a longer time, but they still do crash.

That's kinda shocking to hear. Have you tried tweaks and stuff? Maybe hard-reset the phone to remove all bloatware....

Oh crap! I forgot to ask that...
this is strange, my xperia is the best winmo phone I've had. stable like a rock, fast, no lockups, nice batt life... everything works great (and would do better once they update the rom with a better one)

Good luck with that. I hope you get it working perfectly! This is definitely a wonderful device and the fastest WinMo device.
I've never had the need to flash my set, so afraid don't know anything about it... otherwise would have offered to guide you through.
I have original rom and I think the phone is great! fast and solid!
101% something's wrong with YOUR phone only... althought i have my grumbles, but not so bad at all
Get O2 to reflash it, they will do it for free if you complain about lockups

It's easy, just install hard-spl and then choose from the xperia rom forum one that you like (my preference for now is Itje's HD v2.1).
Follow closely the instructions on the Hard-SPL and rom thread you choose and it will be a breeze.
I just flashed it to IT-Xperience 2.1 and the phone is a hell of a lot faster.
good for you . I am planning to buy Xperia so it will be nice to hear what problems still occur after the update

Pinch to zoom issues.

Once again I am having issues with pinch to zoom on certain websites. This my second device, the first one I exchanged for this reason among others. For some reason it only happens on some websites not all. I have side loaded some apps, but every time I installed one I would check to see if it caused the issue but it never did. The phone itself is very snappy and has no lag unlike my first one. Someone suggested I disable plug-ins and that did not help. Here is a short video I made demonstrating this issue:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfP-4iP0n7o
I don't know, man. I would guess it has to be some of the side-loaded customizations you have running? Loading those same sites, my phone doesn't stutter nearly as much. I'm dropping a few frames at Phonedog, but that's about it.
I'm running stock with Fancy Widget, Pandora and Power Controls. The rest are shortcuts. I turned live wallpapers off and only have GPS enabled. TMOnews works just fine. Phonedog takes a ****, comparatively speaking, but is not unusable. If I had to guess, I would say it's running at about 24FPS with pinch-to-zoom on Phonedog. My iPhone does the same with that site, so I don't think it's the phone, necessarily. I think it has more to do with the rescaling of everything on that entire, stupid page. It's a terribly designed website, really. But yours is definitely 'chunky' in performance on those pages.
Try testing with stock settings to see if it's the phone itself or software that's giving you trouble. I would guess it's something that's running in the background.
Hope this helps.
It's a flash issue. I removed the flash plugin and player using root explorer and it fixed that issue. I also noticed my browser doesn't crash as much anymore.
What boggles me is that everything was working fine yesterday. I didn't want to root till all the fixes came out for this phone but oh well, guess I'll take the plunge.
It doesn't surprise me one bit if you have problems with Phonedog. That website has performed piss poor for the past month. It takes like 30 seconds to load on my home computer. I actually stopped going to it.

Overly Sluggish

Has anyone else noticed their MT4G being retardedly slow? Like to the point it takes 20 seconds to do anything? It was fast the other day. Became unbearably slow today. To the point it wouldn't recognize touch, lagged between screens, etc. I have pulled the battery and rebooted about 6 times now, in the last 12 hours.
I've done a factory reset 2 times since I bought it on Thursday. Not cool.
weird.. never happened to me.
go into setting/applications clear your browser data sometimes it gets really high and needs to be cleaned...just go thru your apps and clear some stuff maybe thats the problem
It's really odd. I pulled out the SIM. Booted up, and it was fast as hell.
Kinda odd. I also just put the SIM back in, ran it in GSM only mode, and its much quicker.
This happens a lot to me, when I talk on the phone and try to do anything. Mostly, I've noticed that Sense just seems to take a dump here and there with all of the background services running. LaucherPro is a lot faster for me, that much is certain.
The dreadful combination is:
Talk on phone
Scroll through something in Sense
Have Android sync with GMail
When that happens, you're toast.

How have you been speeding it back up once this happens? I did a few battery pulls and it was still slow, finally just pulled the sim and it worked. But there's gotta be a more definitive answer. Even if it means manually selecting networks.
I sped it up by ditching Sense and using LauncherPro instead. There is such a huge speed increase that it is insane.
Previous to that, I restarted the phone (which is like an actual shutdown) and turned it back on. Not ideal at all. The phone's software is pretty buggy. The ambient light sensor suffers from the same issues that the iPhone 4 launched with. The screen will sometimes stay on during a call (or flash on-off over and over) until your cheek hangs up the call by accident.
I love this phone, but T-Mo and HTC better be quick with the updates.
Phone has always been lag free for me. Are you on stock rom? Post all after market stuff that you downloaded. Something must be running in the background that's slowing you down. Mine has always been good, and when I flashed to iced glacier rom it flies
I have had problems viewing the photo gallery. It really slows down when I start scrolling through the pictures. I don't know if it is because of the memory card or maybe syncing with facebook. I have about 200 pictures on my card. I've had most of these same ones on my G1 and other phones without this problem.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
you can install WatchDog to take a look at what may be eating your CPU. Also I am going to keep going back to it, make sure USB debug is checked. Helped me a lot!

[Q] slow scrolling is choppy, digitizer issue?

Hello!
This doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere, I've noticed since day one that when I'm scrolling really slow, e.g. between homescreens, in the twitter app or browser or anywhere, it is choppy and moves several pixels each step giving a jerky feel to it. Today I connected a mouse via USBOTG to see if it was the same but it's a huge difference and scrolling really slow is 100% smooth. So my conclusion is that it must be related to the digitizer. Can it be a driver issue or is the digitizer defective? When doing normal fast sweeps it's as smooth as project butter should be, but in a lot of situations you do slow scrolling, and it doesn't look nice. Someone might say this is nothing, but I'm picky with things like this, I hate jitter. Any ideas?
I have that issue as well, it does not happen all the time but when it does i get annoyed, stock rom, and kernel. i just closed my setting and it was butter smooth again.

stock here as well. but for me it is constant, but only when scrolling really slow. It's like every step moves icons, text and whatnot about 5-10 pixels instead of 1. I haven't tried a factory reset yet.
While it was choppy, I checked all running services, syncing application, removed widgets and nothing worked. Very odd.......
yes very odd. do you have the time to install this app?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsIm9yZy5waWVycmUuaW5wdXRiZW5jaG1hcmsiXQ..
it's an app to measure touch input values. click on "Touch" and see what your average touch frequency is when moving your finger really slow. On mine it is around 8-10 Hz, and around 60 Hz when moving in normal speed. I have never owned a tablet before so I don't know if this is normal, but maybe it is. But I guess this is what causes the jerky feel when scrolling slowly, because of the frequency getting so low. Maybe that's how digitizers work.
Edit: I couldn't test this on my galaxy SIII yesterday as it was drained but today I did and I don't get lower than 25 Hz when scrolling as slow as I can, and on my SIII it isn't at all jerky.
