I have tried
CM 7 RC1,RC2 and Iced Galcier on my rooted MT4G phone so far, I loved the CM rom and did not care much for the Iced Glacier. Is there any more roms that I can try on which I might like? Preferably Stable..
Thanks a lot!
If you liked CM7 you will love Royal Ginger. It is based off of cm7, just alot faster and with alot of the CM7 bloat removed. It is stable. Some minor bugs noted in the thread, but nothing to keep this ROM from being a daily driver.
Did you look in the development section? There's about ten ROMS in there, and at least half are stable. Most of the OPs for them explain what they're like and any issues, if any. So if you're looking for another ROM to try, check there.
If you're wondering what ROMS people prefer, then I always end up going back to stock (I've ran almost all the custom ones here) and recently changed to Orange Glacier (Faux123 does amazing work and it's just a quicker, more efficient version of stock). There are some amazing mods for stock (button remapper for google search instead of genius button, transparent slider, adw launcher even though it's not a mod, trueblue_drew has a mod to change the myfaves button on stock launcher, transparent market, etc.)
Sorry if this came across rude, but if you root your phone you gotta be prepared to read, search forums, and learn (that's how most of us did it)! I know it sounds like I'm a jerk, and I apologize, text doesn't convey tone very well...

I would like to install a custom ROM that was NOT ported over from another device. A ROM close to stock but without all the BS programs + some expanded capabilities. Seems like there are only ROM's that were ported from other devices available which I appreciate but would like to try at a later date when they are more stable/complete.
i second that motion sir
Haven't you seen the Cyanogenmod thread?

Sounds like iced glacier to me. And cm is not a port from another device

well if you mean close to stock as in how the phone came then the only thing we have is Iced-Glacier, if you mean close to stock as in vanilla or AOSP then you need to look into Cyanogen Mod. those are the only 2 that are not ports from another device
i've been using ice glacier for a while and so far so good.
i dunno, but i kinda like the stock sense interface, just wanted the bloatware removed, and ice glacier fits perfectly. Sounds like that's what you want as well
maybe when CM 7 is released i might go back to that
Man..dunno how you could want something more than Cyan, the speed increase is insane, it runs buttery smooth now. I am not a fan of MySense though so that may have swayed me a bit...
I love mysense copy and paste, and new Evil-HD port (I know you didnt want a port because you want something stable) is the most stable rom i've run yet, Tried CM ran into little issues, Tried Iced Glacier ran into speed issues and force closes and random reboots... Since installing Evil-HD I like sense even more. (Sense HD is like the upgraded version of mysense looks way better)

You say that Evil's Desire HD ROM runs better than Iced and CM? I'll give it a try in the next couple of releases.

Seems like people are having issues with all of the custom ROM's. I'll wait awhile before I flash any of them.
Wait until CM7. Gingerbread cut and paste is improved over froyo and zinx is already working on it. Should be niiiice.

Welcome to the world of rom flashing. There are a few out there but basically Iced Glacier is basically a stock rom with some tweaks for speed improvement. There are a few others like the Desire rom which is closer to normal Sense UI and CM6 which is stock Android. Honestly the best thing to do is back up all your info with Titanium Backup and flash some roms. Try them all out and see which one you like the best.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head. If you like the MySense UI that the MyTouchHD is using then you might want to try iced glacier it's fairly speedy. Personally i like the "stock/Vanilla" AOSP (Android Open Source Programming) look and feel of Android. I don't like all the fluff and puff that comes with the Sense UI. So that leave Cyanogen's CM6.1.2RC2. I've been VERY happy with this ROM. But you need to decide for yourself. It's time consuming but it's really hard for us to figure out what you like.
Thanks for the advice Im going to try eVil 4G HD, Any recommendation on what I should get along with that?
After that, you might want to try out the Miui roms, pretty slick and it's like an iPhone rom.
And then Cyanogens 6.1RC or CM7 that's Gingerbread but you have to use ADB and upgrade the recovery, unless you're famular with ADB, I'd stick with what we have now and use the roms that don't require the new recovery.
htc flash hero to Android 3.2 Ginger Bread or prefer to Android 2.2 Froyo
I wanted to ask how it is flashed to Android 2.3.Denn as I can read it here it is indeed the rom, but it is generally weak for the Hero? Or rather 2.2 flashed? For I bröchte already a rom, the but also in German
I still have Froyd Villain Rom but I read a lot of good about the 2.3 roms and I am waiting to change over as soon as the RC are done and Elelinux puts out a definite version of his rom(or Cyanogen).
For the german part, I decided for myself to go with english because it is easier to find as it is standart on the roms and it is also easier to describe with the english words when I have problems (also the descriptions use the english terms). As far as I know in most roms you can chose the language and it should work without problems...
but how do I braid at all? because I have 2.1 on it yet
I am not sure what you mean by braid, but if you mean root, than here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4257045
The roms can be downloaded here in the forums and then just flash them as indicated.
pigtail I mean how can I flashed it?
I'm using latest version of Elelinux-7.0.0-RC1-Hero-v0.9 and it's running good so far
Will check GPS connectivity tonight on the way from the office

BTW: I just found this in this very forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253. I ll leave the other link in too (I hope thats ok) but you should find everything you are looking for in these guides.
I'm still on froyo but with a gingerbread theme. I'll probably wait until cm7 is final.

I think I'd very much prefer 2.3 Gingerbread
Will probably flash CM7 tonight just to check out... hopefully it will become final SOON ^^
BTW, I'm new on the forum
I prefer gingerbread using cm7 nightlies atm
I'm on the cm7 nighties too. The default keyboard alone makes 2.3 worthwhile!
First time ROM user....
I was at a loose end yesterday and ended up using ROM manager to install Elelinux 7.0.0 version of Gingerbread on my GSM HTC Hero, TMobile branded G2. I have been messing about with root and launcher pro/ADW for ages and was getting really bored with my Hero, too slow for lots of apps, too old etc. This ROM has given it a new lease of life and lots to play with. I haven't fully worked out what's what etc and am loathe to fill it up with lots of personalised settings and apps because I might well find myself flashing another ROM before long. Thanks be to Google for storing most of my stuff in 'the cloud' and making me NEVER have to lose my contacts again.
I am impressed with this ROM, no crashes, fast and efficient. Only a bit of graphics lag on swiping across screens.
Also, does anyone know why there is no pinch on homescreen to show miniature versions of the screens?
Thanks,
Hamish
Try putting two fingers in opposite corners of the screen and slide them to the center

I think Froyo is probably the fastest on Hero from what I've heard and personally experienced with a mix of Ele CM6.2 Speed, and Ele/Cronos Gingerbread builds.
The difference though, especially with Ele 1.1.1 for me at least who doesn't really have the animations and runs at 691MHz isn't enough for me to want extra speed by downgrading to 2.2. I'm happy enough eating some gingerbread everyday now, although it took a while!
Since my last post I realised that I was on 0.9. I then tried froyd villain but got scared. I now have 1.1.1 and it's great. One problem is the gps losing it's fix. Any ideas on how to fix?
I LOVE the new photo gallery and the camera seems better too.

There's a fix on post (change gps libs from CM7 nightlies..)
Perdita2000
I put gingerbread 2.3 on my hero and it was so much better for a while.
But now for some reason it has started to run a bit slow not loading the home screen. I have not able to figure out why yet.
Do not want to go back to 2.2 now.
Launcher pro does not seem to like gingerbread for some reason. keeps force closing.
Still learning android an dhow to troubleshoot and optimize.
So in currently running Iced Glacier 1.1.6 with faux's 7.8.2SV kernel. And it seems really smooth and good on battery. But lately iv wanted more and iv been contemplating on switching to CM7.
Has anyone made this same switch and not like CM7? Or absolutely loved CM7?
I really just don't wanna flash and get it all set up only to come back to the stable and efficient Iced Glacier.
Just askig for personal preference or facts. Whatever you wanna provide me with.
Thanks in advance.

Trust me when I say this most of us jumped from IGv1.1.6 to CM7NB. IG is the best stock 2.2 rom but as project is halted by silence CM7 (2.3) took its place. Once you switch and set things up you will never go back to 2.2 best advice for you is flash the newest NB and since you like faux's kernel use his CM7 kernel or you can use dumfaq's as its more stable. I just watched to v1.3LV today as I did full wipe and did fresh CM7NB#8 flash, it's worth it as in long run you will like it.

You arent the only one that has asked this question...see the link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=965593
and here is my quote from that thread
i continue to keep flashing between these two roms because i just cant decide which one i like more...they both have the pluses and minuses but even those are very minor and are personal likes/dislikes...such as maybe a button location or theming...all which can be solved by 3rd party means
both run really well...i think cm7 runs better out of the box while IG runs better when you've flashed another kernel like Faux's latest...cm7 is also nice to not have the need to run a 3rd party app to control OC'ing IMO
i keep going back to IG cause it seems it fits the "look" i want more so than cm7 currently...it also feels a bit more natural than cm7...but at the same time i love messing with cm7 to learn gingerbread and learn whats to come for our phones
i think once cm7 hits RC2 or its full stable release ill switch to it full time when i can get a nice theme for it and get it looking and feeling the way i want
honestly you cant go wrong with either rom...if you want sense and good rom thats feels like the stock rom with all the bells and whistles of what roms add...go IG...if you want the latest and greatest that runs like a champ out of the box and is nice and simple AOSP but with a ton of features on the back end...go cm7

needless to say...you cant go wrong with either...but cm7 is the future
EDIT: btw im back using IG 1.1.6 with Faux's 0.7.7b kernel...running absolutely spectacular
Thanks for the responses. I know cm7 is the future but when ever I flash it just feels unstable to me. I dunno I'm picky I.guess.. maybe ill flash to cm7 get it set up the way I want it and just make a backup. See which way my mind takes me

yeah i sorta felt the same way as you about cm7...but in all honestly its pretty damn stable for an in development rom...the devs have done an amazing job making sure its as stable as it can be while tweaking and refining things as they make new nightlies
also if you are want to maybe change the colors of the stock cm7 around a little...i would suggest the colorized version of cm7...as it takes away from the green and blue that in synonymous with gingerbread and cyanogen respectively
colorized version of cm7: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/14513-colorized-cm-7-for-glacier/
as for kernels...i always ran cm7 with the stock kernel...had good battery life and it ran great using the built in performance setting in the cm settings...but i havent heard anything bad about Faux's kernel either...he makes great kernels and works hard to do so
I am the one who started the other thread wanting to know the same thing...so far, there are pro's and con's to each. It's just all a matter of preference.
Personally, I don't like how on CM7 my phone will just up and reboot a lot. I also can't get themes to work when I flash them. I like having visual voicemail because I'm getting a lot of recruiting calls each day.
But CM7 is amazing! I currently stick with it, though I've swtiched from the RC build to the nightly build.
Alright thanks. I guess onto cm7 I go.

what is the benefit of going with the nightlies over the RC1?
Well lets clear few things up here so you all have better info for your decision.

I am testing his kernel v1.3LV ATM as we speak on CM7NB#8 as I virtually used all kernels in CM7 and IG. But far as dumfuq's kernel goes I was just giving you alternative as you are not be flash addict like us and update everyday and you maybe device dependent so you may need balance between stability and performance so use dumfuq's SmartCMKernel. As you know Faux is very aggressive in his update in stock kernel which is very good as I been aware and following his project since day 1. But if you venture in to CM7 just like IG you have built in OC kernel but if you do want you can still use dumfuq or faux kernel. He actually never flashed or used CM7 as he has stock based ROM in his MT4G as he wants to make SR revision for it and then switch to CM7 based project hopefully. So till than you can wait as it honestly makes no difference I used both kernel and dumfuq's seemed best for now which might change when faux venture in our world, so don't worry about it.

Well if you want to use upto date CM7(GB2.3.2) you can use NB (Nightly Build) then flash the current one from the repository as its always changing almost every night. Now it don't mean you want to flash it everyday but if you want you can like NRG as we flash addict do but you can also use RC (Release Candidate) which is little older build but there are no current SR (Stable Release). So but don't be fooled NB is what you should get as its what we all use.

In simple word NB is current upto date builds with more patch than RC as it was older build. Now that being said there are more people who use NB than RC, so that says something huh? NB is the way to go.
I am looking to see which Rom is the best for the HD2 because I dont know much about it. This is my first time. I dont want crashes and would like apps to be working perfectly. I have an rom in and now I cant receive mms.
Also I was wondering how I can get into clock work because I cant get into it even though I installed it?
Thanks for your help
Hi Chrissv,
This isn't the forum where you post those things, try to post this next time in the General forum.
Further Hyperdroid GBX is a very nice rom, and how you come in clockwork mod depends on what you have used as bootloader, do you have used CLK or MAGLDR?
Incomer
Oh sorry thought clicked general questions. But I have the mag one
You have to experience the roms yourself, so you can find which fits best to your desire.
If there would be one best rom, there wouldnt so many other roms
You can start clockwork by choosing "ad recovery" in the magldr, which you at least should have installed. (When your device is off, keep power botton (the very right) pressed to enter magldr)
I hope you enjoy experiencing the whole mass of hd2 roms, so you can choose yourself which one is your best.

Reading
I like HTC Sense ROMs. Try reading some of the (end of) threads with a recent ROM update, and you'll find out how they are. If a lot of people complain, you probably don't want to try it, if a lot of people give compliments, it could be a good ROM.
But as a newbie, you'll have to read a lot before you proceed, cause if you don't know what you are doing, you can brick your device. Start at the "Sticky Roll-Up Thread" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905841, you can find a lot of info there.
Good luck, and keep in mind that it's not appreciated to post such questions in the development thread.
If you like sense i would recommend imilkas RAM vision sense (using it myself). Everything is really fast, been using it for a week and i have undervolted it, and i haven't had a single FC yet. Guess his ram desireHD is just a good, just like the notification widget bar on desire Z better.
For non-sense rom i would recommend hyperdroidgbx-v12. Haven't tried v12 yet, but used it from v6 to v11 and everything was really fast and stable.
Miui roms are the best!
there are several out there, they seem to run very smooth and the custumization capabilities are top notch. im a big fan of htc sense so i got the weather and toggle widget which looks identicle, (its the older version with animated weather-took some work to find it and get working and i cant help there cause im not gonna violate xda but i love it!

it's all about personal preference. i used to be a big sense fan but moved onto better things . personally i do not like miui roms. reminds me too much of an iphone . cm7 roms are good but my best are straight gingerbread. hyperdroid (flashin v12 now) they have been my best and most stable roms. i love the 167 lcd density, puts used to the big screens we enjoy so much
as for clock work mod they are good guide in hyperdroid thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=918899
hope this helps
I HIGHLY recommend Ultimate Droid 3.2.5 I've been using it for the last couple of months and its definitely one of the best if not the best.
Personally, I tend to avoid the sense roms, while they are fast, you can have a lot more customization with an AOSP rom, plus battery is slightly better since it doesn't have the multiple sense services running in the background.
