I keep looking for the text to speech settings but I can't find the Voice input and output section in Android Settings. Does anyone see this one on yours?
Ytain
The only place I saw it so far was in some of the applications that use the txt to speech, but that was more a a calibration for my voice than anything. Maybe someone else knows if its available in system menus.
I've tried various ways to modify the settings.apk to make tts service show up in Android Settings as 'Voice Input & Output' but no luck.
Can anyone point me to a resource where it can explain how to modify/add missing settings in the settings.apk?
Thanks in advance,
Ytain

Hi guys! Had my M5000 for about 10 days now and finally getting used to it but I wonder if anyone canm help with any of the following questions??
1. How do we edit the dictionary?? I can't even find how to add words and that would be REALLY handy as I normally use the phone pad for typing!
2. Can we select a default input method? (I use the phone pad but it always reverts to popup keyboard)
3. Can we change what the soft keys to on the today screen? (I'd dearly love to change Calendar to Messaging!)
4. I prefer to keep event, program and notification sounds all turned on but can I disable the start button click and the noise it makes when opening programs or settings??
5. My device is set to turn off after three mins - Is there a way to make it turn on again when I press ANY button? (I swear the power button moves in the dark lol)
6. When I go into my games menu it takes just over 40 seconds to list them all (I have about 20 games all installed on my memory card) - Does anyone know what might cause this??
7. Is there a way to get these phones to receive files over bluetooth from other make of phone? Mates with both Nokias and Sony have tried sending me pictures over BT but no luck
Think that's it for now - Sorry if any of these are stupid questions with obvious answers that I've missed but I'm pretty sure I've tried every damn menu on the device now lol! I'm also hoping that there's things here that other people would also like ot know!
Thanks
1. The dictionary can have words added to it by making a document in Word (named, for example: 'Personal dictionary') and saving it. Any word you add will be in the dictionary from that point on (as long as the document is not deleted).
3. Try registry hack here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Registry
5. Try 'Settings' - 'Buttons' - Lock tab - 'Do not lock buttons'
4. Not sure if there's a reg hack for it, I've searched for the filenames below and their paths to no avail. but the only other way would be to remove the following files from \Windows:
hwandsw.wav
MenuPop.wav
If you remove or copy these to a different location, then you won't hear anything. During the old XDA / XDA2 and i phases, I used to swap the WM2002/3 sounds for PC Windows noises. Later, when it came to 2005, I used the set contained on here as they were much nicer.
6. If they're on the SD card then presumably it has to search the SD for all of the .exe files. This could be improved by perhaps defragging your card (StorageTools is a good app for this). Another thing may be to try creating links to your game .exes in a folder on the PHONE, and replace the Start > Programs > Games icons with links to the PHONE copies. You can add / remove these by going to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games
7. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Registry - look for the section entitled To change the ability to receive files via Bluetooth (OBEX)

Hi
The registry obex 'hack' does exactly the same thing as going to settings, comms, beam, and clicking the selection box 'recieve all beams' Beam = Ir AND Bluetooth.
I find that the button lock setting does not work. With it set to 'do not lock' you still cant press any button to switch the unit on
Nigel
Thanks for the tips guys
Maybe I should have been more specific with the dictionary thing - I want to be able to add words to the predictive text (Town/friends names for example) - Does adding them to the dictionary do this??
Yes, adding any words to the dictionary adds them to predictive text, as well. The predictive text uses the dictionary.
Plus you'll find that as you type more and more, it will automatically add words you spell out it doesn't recognise.
Ant
Thanks guys - Especially for the registry link - Some REALLY great stuff there
hmmmmm... One quickie though:
For example, to change the left-hand softkey to start Pocket Excel you would set
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112\(Default) = Pocket Excel
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112\Open = \windows\pxl.exe
Anyone know how I set this to open contacts???
I have the 20 Key Touch Dual (nike) and XT9 works great, but depending on what program you are using some applications start in "abc" mode by default. This seems dependant on what feild you are in; Subject feilds like a new calendar item always starts in "abc" mode, where notes and message feilds start in XT9. If you change the settings it will default back next time you open that application. Is there a way to change the default keypress settings to always start in XT9 for all feilds or a way to remember your preference inside each feild.
Anyone have a suggestions/tweak/fix?
Thanks-
Jcostanza4
i also need to fix this it is really annoying
I think you are right and that it's determined by the field or the application. I've noticed that it defaults to "abc" in fields and applications where non-standard (unusual) language is often used; i.e. calendar entries, phone book, connections settings fields, etc.
There must be a workaround though...
Does anyone found a solution to this??
It's really annonying to have to change everytime for having the xt9 enable. I found a sort of shortcut: long press on the button "*/xt9" and then press "1" but you have to do it each time...
Don't we have a good programmer who knows how to make cab to get rid of this??
i tried this, you can change the keyboard to the normal one, non new htc, this it will be of.
Guys it's simple use file explorer and go to Window\xT9Settings and click to launch settings menu there you can check on/off the following:
-Spell Correction
-Next Word Prediction
-Auto Substitution
-Word Completion
-Multitap Word Completion
Don't know why HTC have hidden it in the windows directory!! it should have been placed in the systems menu in any case you can always create shortcut for it in the programs menu.

Click to collapse
But the is no option there to disable or enable xT9 in all applications.
I think this is the same issue as being discussed in this thread - maybe they should be merged.
Even though this thread is the 20-key version the way it reads to me we are all looking for the reg key(s) that set the behavior of xT9...

Im not looking to disable the XT9, but to enable it in every feild by default or ABC mode. Right now certain feilds default to ABC or XT9, so knowing which feild defaults to what is always a pain. If I get used to typing in one mode only everything would be smooth.
This is one of the biggest things that is bugging the hell out of me at the moment with this device. Everything else has been smooth, Really hope HTC fix this in the next version with either a user option to enable the mode you want to use. I am pretty sure that a registry edit could also do this.

Thanks for the link. It works properly.
I am looking for a resource to help me with custom theme development.
I would like an XSLT/API for the XML that defines themes -- I have been unable to find anything like this.
I do not know the tags I can use for each plug-in, their attributes or values.
Thanks

If there is no known resource (i couldnt find anything on MSDN for the microsoft plugins) does anyone know how to:
1) Make the Missed Calls plugin label invisible, but still take up the the space on the screen? When i have no missed called the "Missed Calls" plugin collapses to a height of 0px, shifting everything up.
2) How can i set a specific plugin to have focus when going to the main screen - currently the top-most plug-in receives focus by default.
anyone have any ideas on this?
why dont get a homescreen that support it and read....this is the way i learned how to make homescreens.
Hi,
Is there a way to get "Magnifier Text Selection" to work in all apps. I can't seem to get it to work in anything but Sense?
thanks in advance
I was wondering if there was a way to change the "voice" of the phone Ie. "Incoming call from ___"
If so where would one be able to find the software to do so?
I currently want to do a few things, I've already replaced my boot animation with what I want, another LWP under construction.
The voice is a big thing that will be apart of this, I want to "record" a sample off the net, change the phone's "voice" to said recording.
Any way of doing this?
The best app I have found for that is Ivona. Once you install the free app, you have to go into Settings > Voice input & output settings > Text-to-speech settings and enable the box next to IVONA Text-to-Speech HQ, then set it as your Default Engine, click on Install voice data and choose a voice (I use Amy UK, I love having a British chick giving me directions in Nav) and it will download about a 30mb file. If you choose Amy, then make sure you set language to English (United Kingdom) instead of English (United States) or it will sound funny. Then at the top of the settings check to Always use my settings and it should work.
IVONA gives me problems on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 though. Amy is the voice for most things, but in Nav it goes to the default voice.
thanks for that. It'll do for the time being.
But I'm looking for a software to copy a voice and then implement that voice into the Atrix.
I'm just not 100% sure on how to go about that.
