EDIT: THREAD OUTDATED, NO LONGER NEEDED
UPDATE: See post #5 - auto update market 2.2.7 !
Hello all, I am posting this so that people can have the newest FULL gapps package: market, maps, gmail, facebook, nav, etc, etc - this is not the tiny gapps 1213 that AOSP built, those can be found here or here. Jaybob413 created the zip for his rom - which is awesome - and I take no credit for either the rom or the gapps. All credit goes to jaybob413. These gapps are from his rom, which is CM6.1+, and they work on his rom. Since they are CM6.1+ they should in theory work for all CM6.1+ sourced roms, but I have not tested them on anything else. I do not intend to answer any questions, I am not a dev, and you should not ask him questions either, there is a Q+A section for that if you can't find help here. I am merely posting this to reduce all of the silly "where is the market?" and "how do I get the new maps?" threads that are currently clogging the boards. This is a flashable zip in recovery, and will of course overwrite your current gapps. The first link below is to jaybob413's rom thread OP so you can read it. The second link below is to jaybob413's mediafire account, so you can download the gapps (the old 1020 gapps are there too if you prefer). Good day.

If anybody is getting "unknown error 18" after trying to install apps, I think I finally found out how to fix it. It seems to be for apps that have the ability to install to SD, even if you are trying to install them to internal. If you simply unmount your sd card in settings (and for some it worked when they ALSO deleted the file .android-secure from the sd with root explorer, I didn't have to) - yes I said unmount - you should be able to install whatever you want. It looks like it's a google issue and they're working on it.
If I flash this package on my phone, will it overwrite my currents gapps?

Well of course, that's the point thanks for the question, it reminded me to edit the OP to answer this.
New info !!! The newest market is now 2.2.7, which many of you may know. If you go to a sprint stock rom (like nfx most recent), and update your profile and prl(also new as of 12/20) you will get an auto update from 2.2.6 to the newest 2.2.7 market !!!
so if i flash nfx sprint rom, install new market and prl/profile updates, nand back to cm6.1, will it keep all the new market and prl updates?

yes it will keep, and the market is an auto update, nothing you have to do yourself there sorry for the delay, haven't been on here for a few days.

If you flash this it will overwrite the old gapps, so you can delete the old 1020 gapps zip. Once you flash any zip in recovery it doesn't need the zip file to function after that because it's in the phone's system.
Thead closed by OP's request.
On cm7 , but my system apps are missing, even though I've separately installed them 100 times. The installation process in recovery seems successful, but still no google apps after reboot.

meaning you installed the gapps update.zip correct?
Correct. if i go to setting-applications-manage I have the market and market updater listed but with all the options greyed out. No sign of.gmail or other gapps.
Fix permissions, then try again.
I recommend fixing via ROM Manager, because it appears to do a more thorough job...
Go to the market and downlad the Google apps you want. You're installing the tiny gapps zip and that's what it is supposed to do.
If I recall you have to flash that google add on pack to get the google apps. When you do this you'll reboot and setup your google account.
Go read the initial installation directions and see what it says.

I have had this issue with other apps which I flashed to /system from recovery, flashing successful only to see them not come in the app drawer and then I realized that I had bad sectors in /system and just flashing CM7 eats up all the /system , I have created a thread about that here. may be of help to you.
I recently updated my Iconia a500 to the lastest update(unrooted). Since then the honeycomb market first appears when i open it, however if I try to install an app it stays at waiting to install...if I go to my apps from the app it opens it in the pre honeycomb version which is presumably the phone version. After that the honeycomb version is nowhere to be found untill I reinstall it. What might be the solution to this?
Thanks in advance for your help guys.
Has your tablet always been stock and unrooted..
Did you install the new market on the tablet before acer updated your tablet to the new market.if So where did you d/load it from.. There is a market .apk on the internet that has something wrong with it that causes this.. It installs on your tablet. Not replacing the original Market app. This was asked alot back when the new market first came out.
you can go to where the aps are system/apps and see if there is more then one market app. delete them both .
i went into settings then privacy .untick the backup account and automatic restore data this stops google from restoring data files for both market apps .then find a Legit verson of the android market apk..
Do a search on google for this issue to get step by step instructions. I am writing this out of my memory and it could be a bit off.

Thanks for your reply, my tablet has always been stock and unrooted, and for as long as I can remember has had the honeycomb market interface. Under manage applications there are two instances of the android market, the honeycomb one which can be uninstalled (uninstalls itself when I open the older version also) and the older version which doesn't have the option to be removed only remove updates.
im guessing the one that you can remove is a app that you installed..
I suggest you backup your files. to sd card..
Go to
settings
Privacy ..
and at the bottom you will see factory reset.. this will reset the tablet to total stock and remove the apps that did not come factory installed..
this should fix this issue.. for some reason a update did not remove the old market app or you installed it not knowing or forgot you did so...
Thanks for your help was hoping there was some other solution....I'm considering rooting it and installing a custom rom like what i did with my HTC sensation... once again thanks!!!
unfortunatley this need ROOT privilages.
Download "Market 3.4.4.apk" install with any File explorer app.
It's tuff to make the Market find outdated apps sometimes!
Doubtful : maybe there is a way to have a "market 3.4.4" made into a .zip file, rename to "update.zip" and boot into your stock recovery and it will add in ROM.
I have a question for some of you. I had been doing some research on CM9 for NC. I found a download, ( Though not on this site) along with some additional help from this website.
I installed everything to my NC and low and behold, it all works!! It looks just like my Toshiba Thrive tablet, except it's showing that its running Android 4.0 version.
Now for the drawbacks.... it has NO sound, NO Market, etc... Is there any way to install those? Or has this been the problem all along??
Thanks!
What links you got the CM9 from?
I got CM9 running with sound and market is working just fine.
I knew better than to trust another site, but ... I went to androidfamily.net. It had a "how to" to install CM9 ...
Could you give me downloads you used?
Thanks alot!!!
Check out the Samiam nightly builds in the development forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444943
You basically need to flash three files that are available from there. Latest nightly main CM9 ROM, Google Apps (Gapps) and the telephony-permissions fix.
That will give you market, working sound and best CM9 for Nook at the moment.

I see the Gapps file, and the telephony-permissions fix file, but where is the CM9 main file you mentioned? Am I overlooking it?
I tried again, using the same CM9 file, and then installed the Gapps file you mentioned along with the telephony permissions fix. Still no market. Everything else worked fine!

So do I just download the link that has today's date by it?? That's what I did, and no market. I went back re-read everything, and then downloaded everything all over again, and again... No Market. Everything else is working fine.
Are you connected to wifi? When loading a new rom, sometimes the market doesn't show up until hooked up to wife.
If this doesn't solve your problem, then I would start from scratch. Can you boot into CM recovery? If so, go into mounts and storage and format data, system and cache. Back into main screen and factory reset and wipe cache partition. (so many debates on if this is all totally necessary, but I have had glitches with installs when I have not done every one of these steps in this order).
Install CM9 (I do recommend samiam's build. It works flawlessly on my nook.)
Choose reboot option in recovery. Connect to a wireless network.
Samiam has included Rom Manager in his build. I use this to boot into recovery. Install Sam's gapps, telephony fix and boot animation fix. Reboot.
Hope this helps. Post if you need more detailed instructions.
I don't think you are flashing the right ones or are missing one of the 3. There is a patch that fixes market, boot animation and SOD issues. In unofficial cm9 forum.

I am getting a little confused. When I clicked on the CM9 build....it shows parent directory and then all the nightlies. Which one do I use? I also tried to just wipe it and reinstall CM7... I did manage to get the market running the CM7. So, I think I must have just downloaded the wrong nightly??

You can click on the latest one (Jan. 28.) and download. I always check the end of samiam's thread to see if there are any hiccups on the latest builds. I am running Jan.26 build (haven't updated yet) and it is running beautifully for me.

I have tried everything! and still no market! I believe I'm doing everything correctly, because I downloaded CM7 again, and had the market.
Is there anyone out there with the same type problem that corrected it?
Thanks!
From Recovery you want to format cache and system (under mounts). Also format data unless you already have a good working set up and you want to preserve all your settings, apps etc.
Then you should be flashing 3 zips in this order
update-encore-2012xxxx.zip where xxxx is the latest
gapps-ics-4.0.3-sam-noinit.zip from the misc folder
telephony-permission-fix.zip from the misc folder
The gapps zip in particular has the google apps including the market. Note that if you are comparing with the CM7 MiRaGe ROM then that has the gapps in including the market already in whereas with CM9 you have to flash them in separately.
If you have formatted data then when you reboot it should take you straight into a setup where you set up wifi, then sign in to your google account. The market app then should work OK.

Went to CWM and did the above ..went to mounts and storage..format cache and system, and data. After I did this, I hit the power button, once to go back to the screen to install the zips. Now, when I hit that power button, the following message came up 4 times... E: can't mount/cache/recovery.log. Could this have something to do with it??
I tried your instructions again, and No Market. You said that it would take me to a screen to set up wi fi ..but it doesn't. My screen is black, with a clock, a picture of a camera, and box that says gallery.
I am just going to have to go back to CM7!
I think I finally thought it out. For whatever reason when I put the gapp file in my NC it shows installing..but I don't think it worked. CM7...No problems! Have installed twice today and both times had the Market.
CM9... runs great...but no market!
Strange. The only thing that I can think of at the moment is that you have a bad download of the gapps file.
If you haven't tried it before then I'd suggest downloading it again. You should then just be able to flash that one on its own.
---------- Post added at 05:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:34 PM ----------
As a double check the zip should be 16,874,937 and you should be able to open it on PC and see the apps files in the system/app folder with vending.apk

I checked, and BTW I'm using gapps-ics-4.0.3 -sam noinit ......my download is 18,275 KB ? and when I clicked on it to check the apps files as you suggested this is what it showed... 3 folder icons with MACOSX, META-INF, system. And then directly underneath the folders were 3 other things with the same words as the top 3 ... NO vending.apk ?? I clicked on the one that had system, and all the apps are there. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Would you tell me which gapp file your using?
Thanks for helping me!!!
I go the Gapps I use from the link
http://sphsolutions.net/android/Encore/Nightlies/Misc/
However, it looks like I got a slightly earlier one (probably 1 day before). I retrieved the current one to compare them. The later one has the YouTube app in which explains the difference in size. All the Google apps are exactly the same as in the one I use and the Vending app is there as well under system/app
If you can't see that folder then there is something wrong with your zip download.
The other difference from the earlier one I had is that it looks like the later one had been put together on a Mac system as it has the extra __MACOSX folder and a few .DS_Store folders which are not really part of the required zip but should be harmless.
Just to check I just tried installing with the latest nightly 20120128 and the later gapps version and I got the market OK.
So two thoughts: either your download is still bad or maybe you have signature verification turned on in your clockwork and that is causing this gapps install to fail whereas the main ROM is passing and also the gapps when you do CM7. I have signature verification disabled (which I think is the default). Try toggling the signature verification menu item and get it set to disabled.
What and where is the signature verification? And..... how do I get there?
Hi all,
so a few days ago I made the move to flash from stock rom to the nightly of EOS, of course deleting settings and installing GAPPS as part of the steps too.
I see theres now another nightly out there, and would like to update again.
I'm just wondering however......do I need to redownload and flash GAPPS every time I install the EOS nightly updates, or was that only needed for the first time moving?
thanks
You generally need to flash gapps again after each ROM flash if they aren't included. I just keep a copy of the gapps zip somewhere on my internal storage so it's always there to flash.
Maybe someone can chyme on in this. I have been flashing ROMS for a very long time, recently I have noticed after doing full wipes, flashing the ROM and then flashing Gapps. Once booted up I see none of the Gapps?? I have to go download Gmail, Youtube, Maps etc after the fact.
Has something changed or am I missing something, using the most recent Gapp package file.

AFAIK the newer GApps packages haven't (for a while now) included the apps that are available in the Play Store, such as Gmail, YouTube, etc. They've typically just got the necessary system apps/files in.
Obviously this will depend on where you're getting your GApps packages from though. If the dev of the ROM you're using is providing their own package they might well have included some of the other apps as well.
aha - thanks for confirming - yup better keep that copy of gapps to hand then I guess.
On another non-related note.......other than overclocking configured, is there any point in going to this Motley kernel I've seen mentioned?
Don't care for overclocking, but if it perhaps helps to improve compatability in any games or suchlike then maybe worthwhile

Thanks for the update, makes sense. I had thought separate Gapps packages would have it all. Might just have to make or find my own all in one package
