Well, I don't know what to do at this point besides unrooting and taking it to sprint.
I had no problems with my SD card when running miui. I switched to cm7 and the rom was working just finw until the SD card was no longer read. The gallery/music app would no longer find anything on the SD card...and my SD card apps were gone. Yet, the phone was able to read the SD card with a file explorer. I first thought it was a rom problem...but it doesn't seem like it. I already wiped and reflashed several other roms and I'm still having the same SD card issues. I have already reformatted the card and started from scratch ..with no luck. I've also done the SD card fix by calkun with no solution. Additionally ..I've tried other SD cards and still not able to have a read/write on my phone
What could be the problem here and what's a possible fix? I'm desperate for help and I've tried researching to find a solution..but nothing seems to work.
I would gladly appreciate some help
if you tried other roms, other cards, formatting and such. check your card in a pc, if flawless then you got yourself a hardware malfunctioning evo
Yup no problems with reading/writing from a PC
Its weird. Something very similar happened to my brother and he was like that for weeks ...and it magically fixed itself someday.
And I don't see why it would be a malfunctioning evo when I had no problems and it happened all of a sudden without any physical damage.

Scan for errors on the card?
already did..and tried several sd cards
the problem is not the SD card(s) .. there's something wrong with the phone
Try wiping EVERYTHING twice and installing a ROOTED sprint ruu rom. This sometimes helps fix problems. I had a problem once with my vibrate function and had to do this to correct the problem. Worth a shot right?
ROOTED RUU
do you have a link to a most recent sprint ruu rooted rom?
edit: nvm you already included the link thanks
Update:
Stock Sprint Rooted RUU rom didn't fix it either
I don't know what to do at this point...
I have the same probelm with cm7. Once I started to use cm7 my SD card has been unable to read twice...to where I have to reformat the card in android.....the card is fine and reads fine in all Roms ....
I've already reformatted the card(s) in android as well..no luck.
I have no idea what the problem is..
Do you have tep? Try bringing it back to a Sprint store and see if they will replace it.
Check and blow some air on the microsd slot

So I have a mytouch 3g 1.2 and they come stock with an 8gb Sandisk class 2 SD card. I had problems with the SD card sometimes not being read or the phone acting like there was no SD card in there when there is. I've tried reformatting it several times to no avail. I ended up calling HTC and telling them my problem. They told me that they were out of stock and they'd put me on a list to get one when they get a new shipment in. So I'm still waiting for the replacement.
However I've recently rooted my phone with Cyanogen's recent Eclair 2.1 rom, version 5.0.7 test 7, on my phone and I've had no problems with my SD card not being read or anything like that. This leads me to think that it's not that the SD card is defective but it's the vanilla cupcake OS, stock OS, that has a problem? Has anyone else had this experience before?
I recently received a myTouch 1.2 via insurance since I lost mine and I have been having this problem. Issues being read and written on. Its aggravating since I have to unmount and re insert for it to work. Its a stock 8GB microSD and I am trying to reformat it several times will update shortly
I haven't been able to make my sdcard work, when I'm using the camera it says please insert an sdcard. I don't know y it isn't working maybe its a defect in the phone
it's under /system/etc/init.d
file called 05mountsd. the 1 needs to be changed to a 0. I'm just not sure how to go about editing it? Not the most robust of Linux guys...
So since I posted this thread I've done some reading here and there. I don't remember where I read this but I read that the problem might lie with the OS itself. I wonder if any other phones with the official stock 1.6 have this problem as well or if it's just the mytouch having this problem.
Ok, I have a Samsung Fascinate.
Rooted, CWM, ROM Manager, Root Explorer, Titanium Backup, SetCPU, ASTRO, JT 1000 voodoo kernel with animation.
Ok the problem is and I am almost certain that what caused it is flashing JT's 1000 kernel over top the original 0.2 JT voodoo kernel. However I had read in the forums that people have done this with no problem and I believe in the install thread it says you CAN do it with indeed no problems. However soon after doing the flash everything was working great and I took a couple pictures at dinner which is how I know it was working. Later last night I went to take another picture while out and it wouldn't let me because the SD card wasn't being detected.
I have a sd card reader but not with me and won't until I get home later tonight but I figured maybe until then I can get some help to how to fix it for when I do get home.
I have took a 8gb mini sd from my girlfriends HTC Eris and put it in just to see if it would read which it does perfectly fine. However you plug my 16gb back into the phone and it doesn't even recognize plugging it into the phone.
Any ideas?
all the views and no replies?
any ideas would help guys!
Sounds like your sd card is corrupted. Did you try the card in another phone? Try to reformat the card.

the back up that I made and all, wouldn't that be on the sd card though?
I would think trying to save the card would be a better choice at first eh?

If the card works in another device, then I would wonder if the problem could be voodoo specific, such as the 0 internal memory issue. As far as I know, the only fix for that is the complete voodoo removal process, and a wipe in both stock recovery and cwm.

I tried to put the card into my sd card reader on the computer and it wont read it...assuming its a bad card. When its in the phone the sd card reader slot heats up too a massive HOT temp really quick within second and doesn't do anything. I guess I am gonna unroot using another sd card and take the phone to verizon and be like wtf....
I un-rooted and am gonna take the phone to the verizon store.
I plugged a 1GB from my old phone into the sd card slot and re-flashed CWM to see if I just removed the kernel's if maybe that would fix the sd card but I am almost positive its the sd card that is fried somehow...But it put the phone back to stock except it was rooted...not sure how that happened but i guess everything was on the sd card that I had done???
So confused but basically I am just gonna goto the store get a new card when they realize mine is bad and then re-do everything...Just never flashing a kernel on top of another one again whether people say its safe or not!

I can assure you that had nothing to do with your card. Sometimes you get a bad lot. I order about one a month for various things, and have had to RMA here and there. I swapped the one my phone adopted with for an 8gb class 10 anyway, because the stock are class 2.

Lol. I mean to say the kernel flashing cannot cause the sd card to fail. The card was probably bad to begin with. A bogus card will simply fail, sometimes after functioning fine for awhile.

oh ok, makes sense now...however a bad sd card pretty much screws me over because that is what held everything on it including the kernel and such along with all my apps?

No. the install file for the kernel, but that installs it on the phone. Apps are stored on the internal memory, not the sd card. Pretty much, it just holds your music, pictures, application data in some instances (not the app itself), and any files you need to flash.

So when I get my new sd card tomorrow and load launcher pro back onto the phone, my apps should still be on the phone??
what if I can't even download launcher pro due to this problem of it not letting me download an app because it says I don't have enough internal memory available...
Whoa.
Now that problem is the internal memory issue, not the external sd card. That is voodoo related, and the post about completely removing voodoo addresses it. I ran into that once, and it took about soften minutes to fix following those instructions.

awesome, thanks!
Short story: Was running the latest (as of Dec. 4-5) ICS ROM(s) - the ones with the SD card bug - and my SD card appears to be shot.
Long story:
-----
I had been using the various betas of the ICS ROMs since I noticed Tytung's first Alpha was out and the ROMs had been improving rapidly. I guess when the headphones issue was fixed it caused problems with reading the SD Card which was documented and seems to be well known.
The constant SD messages didn't bother me much, but eventually I noticed launch icons missing and went to the Market to re-download one of the apps I use (I've been flashing so much, I wasn't sure which apps I didn't bother restoring). The Market app tells me I need a SD Card to install apps, so I just figured it's just the instability of the sd card mount for this latest batch of ROMs and I'll flash an older ROM off my SD card when I get the chance. I also noticed the messages started saying I inserted a blank SD Card but I brushed it off (couldn't look into it at the time).
I get home and find out Clockwork refuses to mount my card which means I can't easily wipe and install something else, so I switch to USB storage mode in CWM to simply transfer a ROM from my PC and my PC only sees ~30mb of my 16GB SD! I initially thought it was just some corruption but I tried all sorts of format and partitioning programs and nothing recognizes more than 30mb of space and none have even been able to format that little space that's showing.
I've been Googling for a while and came up with nothing I haven't already tried so I finally decided to post here. Is there any hope for my SD card? Being the holiday season and for once I've got most of my Christmas shopping done early, I'd rather not waste the little money I have left to run out and buy another SD card right away if it's not necessary.
-----
Does anyone have any ideas how I could fix this? I'd greatly appreciate it because I now stuck with WM6.5 and realize how much I didn't miss it for the past year
This is also a heads up for testers to be sure to upgrade their ROM ASAP (or at least to the kernel that fixes this) if they're on a ICS ROM with an SD card bug. I'm not complaining - I know this is a part of testing early builds (please ignore my sorry post count; I've been flashing for quite a while) - but there's no reason for others to go through this issue if it can be helped.
Have you tried EaseUS?
Sent from my LG-VM670 using Tapatalk
Yes,
Try Easus Partition Manager and/or MiniTool Partition Manager.
They can help but you will have to format your SD card I think.
Good luck!
I had the same problem. I plugged my card into a USB reader after it working error free, it then said it needed to be formatted and was only showing 30mb. After formatting repeatedly it still doesn't read. I haven't retired any positioning software but i think the card may just be done with.

probably you'll need a replacement.
have you tried the SD formatter? there's like a 0.000001% chance it will work in your case, but why not try it?
I still use my htc universal, never stopped using it in fact, and recently it was totally crashed, so I flashed it to another rom and tried 2 other roms including the 1 I used first, and each time the sd card isn't detected.
What is likely is that for some reason, the sd card reader of my device simply don't work anymore, all of sudden. I just want to know if this happened to someone else so I may be more sure about that.
SD Card
Hello,
Try replacing your SD Card with a new one. If that does not work. Do a sprite backup on your device. Then do a hard reset. Try your new SD card before restoring your rom after doing a hard reset. Let me know so I can walk your through. This is the best rom for the Qtek 9000 Windows Mobile 6.5.5 Build 23566 Sun_dreams Rom
Sincerely yours,
Robert

I did but it still didn't work, I gave up since, my uni being damaged on many other parts I wasn't using much memory now anyway, thanks for answering though.
Hello
I have SanDisk 64gb microsd. I have not done anything to the phone and now periodically the phone stops reading the 64gb card .It does not say unmounted just when I check gallery the photos are not there and I have to restart the phone.
I have a rooted 4.3 ROM..The only thing I can think of is ES file explorer potentially caused issues. I noticed things acting weird after I used it when I do heavily.
Please help. Any and all advice welcome. Thanks
Tried to re flash a nandroid still issues. I noticed in general my touchwiz is running so slow. I flashed sacs red theme about a month ago. Not sure if that had anything to do with it. Should not have.
It will reread it when I remount it or reboot. Not sure specifically what is causing it though.

Have you tried searching the forums for sdcard fix? Google it? There have been issues with 4.4 and sdcard reading issues. Also downloading foldermount from the playstore has helped others with issues. If all else fails reinstall rom.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Free mobile app
I searched on Google and there is not really a concise answer as to why this happens. It is a very ambigious issue, however; it seems to be a reoccuring issue with SanDisk cards and 4.4 KitKat ROMs.
What I did was completely flush out and re-installed both custom recovery and my ROM to 4.2.2
It is disappointing because I really like my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone and you'd think upgrades mean better quality product when it has not. 4.4 KitKat ROM is not that good. I don't like both CM and TW versions of KK. One feature I do not like with TW KitKat is the inability to hide icons. There are also issues with battery drain and free hotspot mod.
I don't know what is going on. When I plug my phone into the computer I can access the SD card. When I check the phone it is not reading the SD card. Don't know what the problem is.
Have you tried a different SD card? That would help you determine if it is specific to the card or potentially a phone issue.
What I will do is try and format the SD card with the phone, then put everything back on. So far, I have isolated it to ESFile explorer. Initially I did not update the apk and thought that would work. It did not.
Here's what has happened:
I use ESFile explorer to access the SD card. Then when I went into clockworkmod, I tried to delete a nandroid copy I made. It says 'failed to delete'.
Then the ROM and sdCard do not work correctly anymore, so I have to wipe and re-flash an old nandroid.
Makes me wonder if something is corrupted in the SD Card. Everything used to work fine, but now whenever I access the SD Card with ESFile explorer, even the old version of it, it causes issue.
There is a problem with some Sandisk SD cards. Evidently there was a bad batch. I had some of the same issues. My card was bad. I went to Sandisk's website and they replaced it for free. I was without my card for a week but I got a new one and everything seems to be working fine now.
Can you explain how you did this ? So an update on my situation. I can read the sd card but it will not format and nothing can be written to the card. I tried using recovery and touchwiz to format and it fails.
Can access what is on there but cannot write or format anymore. Any ideas ? At this point I swapped to a new SanDisk card I had lying around. Don't know what to do with the old card

I assume you are asking me how I got my card replaced. I did some research and found the issue mentioned here on XDA as well as on the internet. I went to Sandisk's website, http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/list/kw/microsd microsdhc/, and did some more research. I finally contacted their customer service and they told me the process for getting the replacement shipped. If I were you I would just contact their customer service on their website and let them run you through the process.
