I've downloaded the update tool thingy from SE, and it says I can update, but it will erase my data from my phone..
Is it really nessesery to update it? Important stuff in the update?
I've tried to find some kind of Changelog on the latest version, with no success
.
If so, what's the best free backup app?
Also, I rooted my phone, can it give me just a false alarm on the update because of it?
Model E15a
Firmware 2.1-update1
Build 2.1.1.A.0.6
You don't have to update but I suggest you do.
From the search I've made this is what updating to 2.1 gives you:
- ANT+ support
- Changes in the UI
- New unlock screen
- Additional homescreens (you can now have 5)
- Improved Bluetooth functionality
- New Backup and restore application with extended content backup
- Social phonebook, (syncs contact pictures from Facebook)
- Improved messaging app
- Improved weather app
- Upgrade of the Android platform to Android platform 2.1.
- Multiple Gmail account handling
- You can now use Live Wallpapers
- Voice controls
- Better battery life
- More options in Settings
- New widgets
- Access to more apps in the Market
Cheers!
BTW, no, SE will not know if you've rooted your phone.
i think you already have the latest software update, so you don't need to. if you want to you do the backup and recovery and restore it after you've finnished the update process. it will restore your data back to your phone. yes, SE will not detect your phone was rooted or not.
didn't think that SE is detecting my rooted phone, just maybe it's a false alarm that says I need to update while I don't really have to.
@rstdnm - I already got the 2.1
(
Firmware 2.1-update1
Build 2.1.1.A.0.6
)
So my Q is what does the *latest* version is giving me that I don't already have, and if it's worth the full backup-recovery, cause I don't want to take my chances on those kind of things, (mainly because I don't know what's the best way to backup-recover)
@xdelapan - So why did the update tool told me there's a upgrade for me?
thanks,
Golan.
Last time i did an update from SEUS was march 4th. And my phone was have the newest software each time i connect it with pc companion until now. I think it will be not any difference if you are update the phone for now. You alreeady have the latest version. The 2.1 update 1 is the latest version from SE.
Ps: latest update was 015 baseband too
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
As long as you stay with stock SE ROMs you can always backup and recover via the stock backup and recovery app - you can find it in the app drawer, it's working decently. You may use modded version of it if you switch to some 2.2 ROM, but it will most probably not work on 2.3 ROMs.
Now, what would you make an update for? It changes baseband from 06 to 15, and 15 is crucial for custom ROMs app2sd to work. Without it you're stuck with only your internal memory. If you plan to run any custom ROM - update. If not - you might as well skip it, since performance enhancement is slight, if any.
thanks a lot people, now I only need to make sure I'm not too much of a chickensh!t to try ROMming my phone..

Hey guys,
I am still awaiting Froyo to be officially available for my phone (been checking it ever so frequently but the update isn't just available )
Anyways, until I do get the update, a few quick questions:
1. Before the update, how/where do I back up all the apps, contacts and the like?
2. Is the update reversible? I mean once I move on to Froyo, can I get back to Eclair (for whatever reason!)
3. Apart from the backup, is there anything that needs to be done?
4. And honestly, how much of an improvement is Froyo on Wildfire as compared to Eclair? {basically is it worth the pain?}
I'm sure these questions are around on the forum but I just wanted them to be under one thread. So please do take time off and reply to these Q's and bring in all your suggestions related to the update.
This genrally applies to unrooted stock ROM
1. You can use Backup apps like My Backup Pro to Backup your Apps, data & Settings.
2. I believe the update will not be reversible.
3. If you are ready to start afresh Hard reset your phone. *** (Will wipe everything on your phone and make it brand new on the software side)
4. On stock ROM there should be some improvement in speed and you get App2SD, Wifi Tethering etc.
Yes, the update is now irreversible. Maybe in the future months when unrevoked will be updated.

Hi,
First up: sorry to bump this old thread of mine.
As evident by this thread I was very curious to upgarde to Froyo. I had been checking for updates on my phone and it was always displaying the "No updates available" message.
Then I looked up this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889734
and first upgraded to the 1.25.720.1 version and immediately an update was available. I updated, did a factory reset and now have FROYO.
But the one thing I notices is that the SENSE UI hasn't changed at all. I mean its the same boring thing that came with the stock ECLAIR. Now I was wondering if:
1. There is some other update that I'm yet to complete?
2. There is actually only one SENSE UI across all versions of Android?
I'm currently using launcher pro and I have currently removed SENSE from the defaults (settings->Applications->Manage applications->look for HTC Sense->Clear Defaults). With this setting, earlier I used to get 3 options when I pressed the HOME screen on the phone:
1. Android screen (or so I thought it was)
2. SENSE
3. Launcher Pro
but now I'm getting only 2 options: SENSE and LP. Is there any way by which I can get back the original Andorid (?) home screen?
Thanks a lot for all your help.

Default Android Home screen has been removed in Wildfire Froyo.
The other day, my phone prompted me that an Android system update was available, to update to 2.29. That number is scarily close to 2.3 so I'm presuming this is Gingerbread?
Anyhow, the problem is, it can be downloaded but I can't seem to install it. The first step of the install process is that the phone restarts. The problem then is that it boots back into Windows, and once you've reloaded Android it's forgotten what the bell it was doing and tells you the update is ready to install.
I figured there may be problems like this, since the phone isn't running Android as it's primary OS. Does anyone have a solution to this, or is it just a case of waiting til someone releases a working version of Gingerbread and then replacing the Froyo I'm currently using?
First of all, 2.29 isn't Gingerbread. Secondly, it won't work because it's for the device that your Android build is emulating, not a HD2. Just forget about it. Your only updates will come from here.
So yeah, you pretty much said that yourself

I have updated my frnd's spica from 1.6 to 2.1 a long time ago and i'm thinking of upgrading the android version.Which do you suggest, the
[Rom] [Spica] OMG v1.22.12.10 [Android 2.1] [Stable] [Customization Updated/Adding]
what is the diff betwen this one and one of the official early released eclairs ?
or
FROYO for SPICA (CyanogenMod-6.1.1-Spica-alpha8.3)
Is this Foryo stable and usable ? (my frnd does not know anything about these things)
Better install SpicagenMod- also Froyo, it's still not a final release but it's beeing worked on all the time
I suggest SGM-froyo-BETA1-NextGeneration. It's stable, nice and Silky Smooth

He made it
Go to samdroid.net, all downloads are there.
Expect similar bugs/problems as with SpicagenMod (it was used as base)

HI
Hi
at the moment I'm running froyo 2.2 rom on my spica and to be honest I am not that impressed. its the samdroid mod, this 1 I think (not sure a guy rooted, etc for me)
SamdroidMod 2.0.1.alpha.8.3 - Froyo [AOSP] for i5700
so my Q is this, can I just put the rom you have supplied on my sd card then boot into recovery apply then hit home when prompted?, Do I have to hit "Wipe cache etc"? as this will be my first time applying a rom myself. Will I lose all my settings & apps etc?
does everything work l;like sound, bluetooth etc, all the important things I mean.
any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated

well,i installed the custom eclair long back on the spica upgrading it from 1.6 using ODIN softwere flasher. I guess if your phone is rooted,i guess you can just put it on ur SD and you have to erase cache and data as these are not upgrades to your version , but completely different versions.
Here is a new one from samdroid as well - http://forum.samdroid.net/f53/cyanogenmod-6-1-1-spica-alpha8-4-a-4716/
You can back up all your stuff with some softwares on the market... - Titanium Backup ★ root - Android app on AppBrain
The best for me is "Ultimate Spicaclair 1.5"

maybe after a few days we will see an advance version?
from facebook/huaweidevice:
"Hi Goh, the trial 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade for the X5 is currently available for download. However, please be informed that with the trial version, you may encounter disconnections with certain WiFi access points. Our R&D team is currently working on this matter to ensure stability on its WiFi access. We aim to release the official upgrade by 31st December. Thank you for your patience."
I've been trying to download this for days (it was up in early December but has since been updated) but all I get is server unavailable. Can anyone upload the file for me?

GB 2.3 Final release
Huawei just anounced that the ROM launched at 28.12.2011 is the Official One, they called it Enhanced Version...(of what???).
If this is the last effort by Huawei to do an Official ROM to U8800, it is a very very BAD effort!!! Shame on you Huawei, i expected better!
I HOPE that the final release it's still to come...(it's christmas!!!)
Bye!
Is is worth to upgrade? I still have 2.2 version on my Huawei
I don't understand one thing why huawei doesn't use phone's online update ?
Never did, since version b133 till b522 there was no online updates, while checking through phone. Why do they think this menu is for ?
I have a bug:
After trying to download updates from the market, the download progress can't be removed from the notification area. Even after reboot, it gave me several errors but progress is still there.
To summarize: Won't recommend to anyone and consider myself huawei devices.
BETA v3
Hi all! After update to 2.3 GB of BETA ver3 (because I do not believe that this is the final product) has no problem with the SD card, with the freeze and reboot. Still not working haptic feedback and 4 functional keys backlighting. Display still very sensitive. In settings - info about the phone - online update - Update the firmware: there are 2 updates for M886 !!!!!! I tried, after reboot start installation new FW and end with an error . After restart everything is OK, the phone works .... uffff! M886 is different hardware, but I had to try
After root no USB CD function, long time to access massstorage internal-external SD.
I updating from stock 2.2 B138 ROM with IMEI back with ToolBox 5Irom, after update to Beta v3 IMEI again zero !!!!!
They call the 12-28 released version a normal one. But the actual meaning should be a uniform version.
All the initial integrated apps are same in the oversea vertion and in the verion released in China, like Facebook,Twitter, even though these two service are not available in China.
And this version also support many language for the uniform using.

Is it possible when i have a rom and there is updatet version to build a ota out of it? that everybody who wanna download only has to download ota and all is good. Would make some roms more attractiv. In my case i only have the traffic of my mobile provider and i only have 3gb of free traffic.
And when somebody tells me how it works i would make some ota for my favorite roms.

Yes that's possible, there even devs that update there rom when there is a new kernel. Back in the days when I flashed with my Xperia x10 that was always the case. Just flash a update. Not possible if it's a whole new base/different firmware.
Would be nice if devs do that. So I can download it on 3g.
Good point this thread.
re
For example. Jamals google rom is not a complete new system coming from v1 final to v2.2 final. There have been added missing files and have been fixed some problems. How do devs fix problems. They change some lines in existing files. So it would be possible only to change this files.
Also coming from x10 and therefore wolfbreak also offers ota updates for his roms.
So it also should be also possible for our sammy phone. And sorry that i say something like that. Sammy also provides ota updates for nearly every update. Also in case of a complete system update so i can't see why it is not possible for costum roms.
Is there anywhere a how to of making ota files that i could test this. I think a rom would be much more attractiv for a bigger community if there are ota files.
Best regards vision03.
No one a tip for me?
