[Q] does hd2 have a front camera for 3g video calling? - HD2 General

hi friends...
i was wondering whether hd2 has a front camera...when i was looking at the specification of hd2...it was given that it does not have a front camera.but 3g calling is possible in hd2...but actuallly 3g video callling must neeed a front camera right?
then how cum its posssible to do a 3g video callling without a front camera?
any sugestion?
i have installed android gingerbread 2.3.2 in hd2..
vishnu

The hd2 does not have a front facing camera, I guess technically if you had ANY camera and 3g it should be possible to do video calling although you would not be able to see yourself or the other person so there really wouldn't really be a reason for it. Also as of now there is no ROM that even has the option of doing video calls that's including the few mytouch 4g ports.

Can't you just look at your HD2 and see there's no camera? Haha.

What?... you CAN make video call using the right software.... "Tango" free on the market for one works quite well on wifi...
Small disadvantage... you have to share the time between "viewing your friend " and "sending them your stream""

That would not be a true video call and its using wi-fi not the phones data service

if i am not mistaken i am talking about the front camera

i wish hd2 has a ffc

I don't see any, but it would be a nice to have

It does not have a Front Facing Camera.
HTC phones have had FFC for years before the first iphone was made. It was very rarely used due to: cost of video calls, jerky video (due to network restraints), everyone around could hear your conversation and not wanting to be videoed while making a call.
Since it wasn't being used, I suspect that HTC thought it was a good idea to remove it and put better stuff in its place (compass, movement sensor, etc).
Then the Apple Marketing folk came along and showed how to sell video calling (but only among themselves). And it was good selling. They could only video call 5% of the mobile phone market (assuming that all their iphone, iphone3g and iphone3gs users would have to move on up to the iphone4) and only if both were connected through a WiFi network. That is so restrictive that only those who have joined the Apple Cult would fall for.

I had nokia 6630,i think it was the first phone to allow videocalling in the world ...This phone comes only with the back camera, and so nokia invented the "see what i see video calling feature" (as described in the manual),and an optional craddle with a front facing camera. Ahahaha

There is a clip on plastic periscope thingy available which uses mirrors to point the camera to the front, and then I assume the software flips the image vertically. ,, not seen one in action, but might be useful if vid calls are essential.

Hello , I don't know if youreally know what is a HD2 to claim it does not have a front facing camera. Didn't you ever use this feature with your phone when on Windows Mobile 6.5 ?
It's not because android can't propose it that it does not exist !
I used to use this often and it lacks now with android

Whatt???
Wich Hd2 are we talking about???
Even with WM6.5, Hd2 doesn't have a font camera, it's hardware.
And now, the roms android dedicated to the hd2 offer all that the Hd2 can do.

+1, there is no front camera.

HD2 .... or not to be?

Ok I have I Touch HD, on the whole I have been very impressed with my touch HD, apart from the poor camera when not in brght day light.
I'm am due an upgrade soon, I am certainly considering the HD2, but i need to know is the camera better than the previous HD?
I understand not all phone cameras are great, but my Nokia N95 shot fantastic video indoorsm and the sound was clear even in night clubs it didnt distort. I would love to get back to this quality again.
I'm conidering the new sony erricson and Nokias, but I'd much prefer to get HD2, window mobile and HTCs front ends are much better than others I have used.
If the HD2 isnt up to scratch does anyone know of any new windows mobile devices that have camera performance equal to the Nokia I spoke about?
Thanks

The Best Picture You Shot with HTC HD

I'm still under impressions about the HD and all its feat.s, but the most is from 5MPx camera, well done for phone. So please post your the best done picture ever by you HD!!!
Ehhh why not...first one is of the Washington monument here in DC,
The second one is of my almost 3 year old insisting she ride her tricycle uphill to her auntie's house on the left (yes, she knows where the house is...but is still struggling with that pedal/steer combo... give her a break, some of you still get left and right confused!)
Not bad, looks quite nice

I mean some of my friends have been really embarrassed with the camera performance of our beloved HD, when trying to impress ladies with the "latest peace of the mobile technology" they haven't been able to accomplish such an easy task as shooting a decent picture, unless on a bright light. Most of the relatively old Nokias or Sony-Ericssons can do this.
I don't wanna even talk about the video recording
Best picture? Come on, we all know that htc have no idea about cameras.
Actually...I'm happy with the [outdoor] performance with this camera. I mean occasionally you'll get a jewel of (an indoor) picture...heck, sometimes with my 10meg camera I'll be disappointed...and yes, some pictures do come out somewhat discolored outside, but I just simply use a photo editing prigram to fix the colors and I'm all set. Remember, you bought:
1. A phone
2. Web browser
3. Digital assistant
4. Mp3 player
5. Camera...
not the other way around.
I have taken 3 pictures that i think is the best i can get out of my HD:
the first one of my mom's dog:
the second one the first flowers:
and the last one a pumpkin from halloween:
I've been this close to going back to a Sony Ericsson because of the camera... Only the video playback (still not as good as it should be) on the large screen keeps me happy
Here's my two cents
The black Sea
Countryside
Beach
River Terek
Although I'm not happy with the HD camera performance I use it occasionally as a back up camera. It's not really practical to carry around a DSLR all the time.

I made a test on My SE Xperia X1 (made by HTC and with HTC hardware camera) and I think that HTC's bad quality pictures is more software related than hardware related...
The rom I use has 2 camera application: the SE Xperia one and the HTC Rhodium one
Here is the picture taken with HTC app:
Here is the picture taken with the SE app:
>My wonder came after the shot done during my work, it was indoor and i shot a bottle, I think very good one picture;
>My mother owns SE K800, but I cannot compare pix, mine is better
>Anyways A+ to HTC for such camera (photo!), after Artemis's camera this one is earth and heaven.
Please continue attach quality pix by HD
pic is attached!
My abstract photo
This was taken through the windscreen of a van while moving.
The camera still's are not too bad on the HD but the video recording is utter junk, the original diamond take's far better video.
Here are my noob shots
...wish the car was mine though

the hd2 video call support

fring has released a software to use videocall on iphone 3g even iphone doesnot support videocall do we have any chance to make video call on our hd2 via software like fring for future release or driver to enable videocall by the main camera like some nokia devices with one camera or hd2 lakes the videocall support hardware
no answers
I have to ask, what is the point of a one way video call?
I used to make a a lot of video calls on my Nokia E90 and hardly ever used the front camera. I was mostly pointing the camera at something I wanted to show someone... my kids/dog/stuff to buy at the store etc... you can film anything you want... even yourself if you want to show your new hair style or whatever. What I never used it for was pointing the camera at myself for 10 minutes while looking at the other person on the phone.

you are right we don't need front camera to do videocall if the hardware exists like allot of nokia phones the question is is it possible to enable videocall in hd2 camera with main camera like what happened in the xperia x1 usa edition look at this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475910

Really bad audio on video recordings :(:(

hi..i m currently using the native camera app to capture videos...video quality is very good...but the audio is crap...i was recording a live concert...not exactly a concert though...live music performance...the video turned out very good but the audio really sucked...
since the phones mic is the only source...i would like to know if there is an app that can record good quality videos with decent sound...?
Or is there anyway i can remove noise from the recordings using a software on the pc...any convertor that will convert the video to a format which will output the audio better.
P.S the audio is real bad...just not acceptable...its very hazzy and full of noise
Note : settings used were...720p..mpeg4 codec.
Please HELP !!
I second the OPs inquiry...
The answer, as always, is CM. Video and audio quality is superior in CM.
2.3 fixes this via a new ACC codec. CM7, which is very much alpha, is the best choice. Whether that's worth flashing just for that fix is up to you.

Don't do this yet, though. The camcorder is still not working on CM7.
i hv no time to flash CM or 2.3 right now...was looking for a quick fix...some app/codec or tweak that will enable me to record better audio...or i don mind if theres a software for the pc which will rectify the recordings later...i need to do 3 hrs of live recording tomm...and sound is very vital !
i too would love better audio

If it is so vital and you don't have time to flash a ROM, then march yourself to Best Buy or your nearest electronics store and buy a camcorder. Relying on a "phone" to record "vital" video and audio is not the way to go.
^^ camcorder is out of budget...already spent a lot on d evo..so need to wait a while to get a good camcorder...
[offtopic]do camcorders record audio better..or do u need to buy some production mic to get better audio on video recordings in scenerios like music concerts..? Are there some ports on the camcorder to feed in the audio thru cables etc ?
yes, the video quality is pretty bad even at the max settings. i've never been happy with it.
if you got it less than a month ago, and the video is THAT important to you, you should return the phone and get an even exchange for the Samsung Epic.
The video recording on the Epic is amazing. Even better than the iPhone 4. My wife has it and i'm totally jealous of her video quality, which rivals our flip camcorder.
Besides that, the Evo is a much better phone in almost every way.
but if you're specifically looking for an amazing camcorder and not much else, go get yourself an Epic.
i got it 2 months back.
i donno but technically evo should record better video and audio as opposed to epic...the fact that evo has 8mp...mpeg4 codecs and features like light correction etc...i know 8mp don matter much but technically more the pixels better is the resolution and naturally better quality....is software the culprit in case of evo or is it that i m missing something abt the hardware of both phones ?

The point that you are missing is you are trying to use a phone as a replacement for a camcorder.

MP means very little outside of how many pixels at maximum the photo can be made of. With EVO vs Epic video recording its a non issue since both record at the same size -720p- and no larger. Outside of MP, the Epic's sensor is just better; it may capture less pixels at its maximum but the pixels that it does capture will be of higher quality. A lot of people have said that the Epic takes better photos than the iPhone 4; and we just had a long thread where it was found out that the reason why the iPhone 4 shoots better than the EVO is because it does indeed have a better sensor. That's likely the same reason why the SGS/Epic are better too.

Exactly.
HTC makes great phones, but are notorious for making horrible camera sensors. This is because, besides from tacking them on to phones, the DON'T MAKE CAMERAS and have no experience in it and little budget to fix it up.
On the other hand, Samsung has been making digital cameras for the last 10 years and are even better known for their cameras than their phones. So, they have more money and research behind this form of technology. So they just slay at making cameras for phones as well.

Has very little to do with what he said. The iPhone and EVO use sensors from the same company. The difference is in product direction. Apple aims for quality, HTC aims for numbers. People expect Apple products to be easy and to work good; most of them don't have a clue what a mega pixel is or does. HTC doesn't have the same product positioning as Apple so they rely on marketing numbers to persuade people (3 more MP then the iPhone 4!!!). At least that's my view.

The Camera Quality Thing...what´s your solution?

Hey folks!
I´m one of the most enthusiastic Streak user within us (coming from an HD2 ) and I´m loving my new phone...
BUT: As all of you surely know, the camera is a not-so-funny-joke compared to phones like the HD2. So after many months where nobody has talked about this, my question is: What are your solutions/workaraounds for better pictures?
I´ve just tried the obvious: camera360 & MagicHour. But no, it doesn´t make it much better.
Last but not least: Is there some hope e.g. for getting some better drivers? Hope dies last, I´m praying for some very kind devs with similar intentions
Hmmm everyone knows the Streak's camera is no great and I think this has to do with the camera module itself. Look at HTC's camera, they mostly suck especially in low light conditions and in video recording at night - till now even if there is a great amount of developpers working on htc phones, no one has successfully modded them. And to tell you the truth, considering that the Streak is not that popular for modders, chances are really really weak that someone will work on it.
I think Sony Ericsson X10/Arc/N8/Infuse/Mytouch4G Slide are among the best camera phone if I'm not mistaken.

i also agree. sony ericsson and nokia always best in camera. i also own a streak 5. but my old nokia 6600 slide is 10times better quality photo thn streak though its only 3.2 MP.
I find the Streak's camera is perfect for quick shots, but prefer using my three-year old digital camera since its CCD sensor is larger than the one in the Streak.
With Camera360, the photos come out with a quality more pleasing to the eyes than the stock camera. It's ok to take photos if you are not picky about quality but don't expect jaw-dropping photos!
My fav camera phone goes definitely to the Nokia N8 and Sony Satio/X10 - they maybe a bit old, but when you take photos or videos, you can show them to everyone since the quality is high above than most smartphones!
I use a proper camera if I want to take proper photographs, the Streak is handy for the odd snapshot but it's a phone/tablet device, not a camera.
Yeah, my solution to poor phone cameras is to not use them. If the Streak didn't have a camera I wouldn't miss it.
