Hi all,
Would post this in the dev forum but don't have the post count as yet.
I've been running CM7 nightlies since #12 or so on my G2.
I noticed starting with nightly #21 that my signal icon is now always showing 3G when previously it was showing H. Status reports that mobile network type is UMTS. However, I'm showing consistent download speeds of 4-6 Mbps, so I'm assuming I am in reality enjoying HSPA+.
I tried wiping everything and installing the nightly from scratch to no avail. Has anyone seen similar behavior?
not really what you clould try is dailing *#*#4636#*#* - telephone information - dropdown list selecting wcdma only. And have a look if it changes to H
Technically, HSPA+ doesn't kick in until 7.2mbps+, but I get what you mean. I am currently on nightly 23, but I still have the H icon. Maybe it's something on the network side and not the ROM/phone.
Thanks for the WCDMA Only tip -- since 3G is still WCDMA, it didn't make a difference, as best as I can tell.
I ended up wiping and flashing back to RC2, where my H icon promptly returned. Interestingly, upload and download speeds are about the same as (actually a bit less than) what they were when the icon was stuck at 3G in nightly 23.
I'll wait a couple nightlies and try again and see if the issue recurs.
Thanks to both of you guys for your help!
Are you running the AUS radio or stock?
(Also, questions aren't meant for the dev forum =p)

I had the same issue when I started using CM7 nightlies. reflashing my radio fixed it for me, looks like rom flash got it for you, but if you run into the issue again in the future, you might give reflashing your radio (or a different radio if you want to experiment) a shot.
could have just been a glitch, it sounds to me like even though it says 3g you really are on HSDA

NEW METHOD!!!!
1. Make sure you are on CDMA/EVDO Auto
2. Switch to LTE CDMA/EVDO and you prolly wont get a signal but run fix permissions
3. Switch back to CDMA and reboot
4. When you are back from reboot wait for solid 3g and then switch to 4g
5. profit ??
Hope this may help some of you!
After many hours of trying different combinations of radios, PRL versions, wiping to stock and back, along with the help of PackFanJason, I have figured out how to get 4G on CM after the VZW Fiasco.
Just follow these steps and you should* be able to get 4G first try!
1) You will need to obviously be on test 4 of Cyanogenmod.
2) Next you will want to grab this radio ( http://db.tt/8bCSwWr ) This is the stock radio, for some reason you MUST BE ON THIS RADIO. My guess is that VZW set the towers to only look for this specific version to connect for 4G.
3) Place that on the root of your sdcard and make sure that it is named just PG105IMG.zip ( I dont remember the exact number ) or whatever just the last part of the file name is.
4) IMPORTANT STEP before flashing the radio in HBOOT, make sure that your have your wireless setting on CDMA/EVDO AUTO, NOT LTE/CDMA EVDO Auto. I flashed it this way the first time and it didnt work.
5) If you have done all of the above, you can now go into HBOOT and flash the radio
6) Upon reboot make sure that you let the phone sit for ~3 minutes while everything sets itself up, one you have waited go to the wireless settings again and switch it to LTE/CDMA EVDO Auto. If you lose signal right away, you did something wrong from above and repeat the process. Most if not all of your will see the 4G icon pop up and VOILA
**Some suggestions if it doesnt work**
Some suggest running Fix Permissions via Rom Manager with the 4G setting turned on and then rebooting.
If it does not work the first time do not flame the thread, each phone is different no matter what you say. Everyone has changed things a little different each time so this is for the majority
As always if you have questions hit me up on Twitter or in IRC at #slayher on freenode.
Making a backup of my Tesla rom now so I can give this a shot. Thanks for your research and help.
EDIT: File name for radio should be PG05IMG.zip
I have the newest radio from basf-remix and i get 4g no prob all day.

Like i said above, everyone is different, this is just for people who cannot get 4G, if you are getting it then of course dont change anything

Ok, I restored my CM7 backup (not a clean install).
Downloaded radio in OP, put it on root of SD card, renamed it.
Changed network mode to CDMA / EVDO Auto.
Rebooted to make sure it stuck, made sure I had 3G.
Rebooted to bootloader, flashed radio.
Restarted phone upon prompt after radio flashed.
Waited, even though I got 3G very fast on reboot.
Changed network mode to CDMA + LTE/EvDo Auto.
Lost data, still gone.
There's nothing I did incorrectly from the OP, my phone just won't get 4G on this rom. I'm going to leave it for an hour or so and see if it picks up. If not, I'll restart the phone in LTE mode and see what happens. Thanks again, OP, it was worth a shot.
it took some time, but i have 4g on CM7 with the newer leaked radio....this may be an easier route for those of you that can't seem to get 4g though.

What do you mean when you say it took some time? Just wait upon booting the phone? Did you play with any settings?
Do you think this will help with 3G also ? . I'm in an area were 4G is not that good but 3 use to be great but on CM7 it's on and off mostly off ,i'm on stock radio :- 1.16.00.0223r

well, it's been kinda confirmed that there were still 4g issues with verizon all day yesterday so that was most likely my problem.
But in the settings i had it set to CDMA/EvDo only almost all of yesterday and was changing it to LTE periodically to see if it would work. This morning I put it on LTE and it came on the very first time.
Those steps didn't work for me. It switches to 4G briefly, then I get a complete network dropout.
I have to switch to CDMA/Evdo auto to get data back.

I've been able to get 4G on any radio I've tried with CM7. I just have to toggle between CDMA/EvDo and CDMA + LTE/EvDo a few times to get it to take.
What I'll normally do is to switch to CDMA/EvDo and let it get a solid 3G signal then switch over to CDMA + LTE/EvDo and after a few minutes, 4G will kick in.
Just my experience since it seems there are so many different ones.
EDIT to add state - Auburn, WA
Ok, for those of you with working 4g, if you dont mind post your city and state. Would love to see if you are people in the same markets.

Hello everybody.
I have installed Swiftdroid 2.0 M4 on my GT540, everything works well excepted the 3G connection.
I tried to add my APN manually but it does not work. My provider is ORANGE France.
Does somebody have a solution ?
(Sorry for my bad english)
Mat11
try extracting the apn settings from joe's rom and adb push it into M4 then goto the apn and reset the settings that might work because i have no problems with 3g
Thanks for your quick answer.
Can you explain me how to extract apn settings from Joe's ROM. I need to install it ?
Sorry but in fact there is no problem.
When I was in 2.1 ROM I used to have a 3G icon in the status bar, but now there is a "H", so I have a 3G connection isn't it ?
if i haue time to night ill make a update.zip for you. And i think H icon is better than 3g

I would welcome such an update. About two days before I left the US for Belfast, the 3G icon disappeared. Now all I see in Belfast is an "R" above the 3-4 bars, which I assume is "roaming?" I had an AT&T SIM while in the US, and a Vodafone one in now - no change. I was using Mur4ik's M4 ROM, then reflashed through Fastboot to Joe Stone's 2.3.2 clean gingerbread. No difference noted. Suggestions?
Welcome to Belfast mate even though its raining as usual i will make the update.zip tomorrow for you

Automatic APN Setup
Hi ..
Have you try "Joestone's tools for Automatic APN Setup"
I've been using the tools for 2.1 and 2.3.4 ROM and it works fine, never have any problem.
APN Set
Thanks! That did the trick!
Hi recently bought a Motorola Defy+ 2.3.6, of course which has Motoblur I want to get rid of. I tried a number of custom ROMs (CM7.2 & WhiteRabbitEdition), I could get them to install and run fine. The problem is that after a few minutes (or hours), the phone seems to lose connection to the mobile network. The phone still shows 2 or 3 bars of coverage, but cannot make a call or send SMS. Reboot fixes the problem, but only for a while. I am on the Telstra 850/2100 network in Australia, baseband was set using baseband switcher. Wifi seems to be working fine.
I have tried:
- cm72-20120429-NIGHTLY-Defy+.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618904.
- an earlier Epsylon3 build
- WhiteRabbitEdition v1.5.1 & v1.3.1 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510063.
No such problem occurs when I revert to standard Motorola build.
Any ideas what could be wrong? Is anyone else successfully using custom ROM on Telstra?
Leigh.
Have you tired changing your baseband to your country. it is some where in CYANOMODGEN settings.
Yes, I changed the baseband to Australia -> Telstra (850/2100).
On boot after h or 3g connects quickly switch to 2g only for a min then back fixes it for me have a try I use euro skank roms quick and stablest

Thanks for the suggestion, it does seem to fix the problem, providing I leave it on 2G only. If I switch back to 3G, the problem re-occurs, albeit seems to take a bit longer to happen. 2G is fine for calls and SMS, but if I want to use high speed data, this is a bit of a pain. Also Telstra has broader coverage on 3G rather than 2G.
I also noticed that once it has "gone deaf" to the network, the "Search networks" never finds any mobile networks either. Also, I cannot change the "Use only 2G networks" setting any more.
My Defy+ model number is MB526.

Just tried update-cm-7.2-20120507-Defy+-signed.05072012-0137 from http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/gigglebread/?id=jordan_plus, but sill no good . this one seemed to last quite a bit longer before the problem occurred, not sure if that was statistically significant though.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for your help,

Yes, tried setting to 2G only prior to reboot. After the reboot, if I switch off 2G only, it again loses connection after a while.
I have not changed roaming options, that is all fine. The SIM works perfectly in another phone, and also with Motorola standard ROM.
My next plan is to try CM9, see if that makes any difference.
Try with all roaming options ticked am looking into it more

In Connections/ More Networks/ Mobile Networks/Network Mode choose GSM. You can choose LTE if you want but unless you are in an area that has non-stop LTE coverage, you will face the following bug: when your screen is off, it will lose the networks and stop mobile data. That wont happen when the screen is on and its really fast. So the solution would be to have the GSM option ticked and that way you still have mobile data even with screen off

I have the same problem when I upgrade from google edition of omegaroms. The Basevand version I'm on is I9505XXUBMF8 and I have tried using the modems in the install guide of 13.2 and nothing works.
now com.android.phone stops working. Can't recieve or make calls.
same here
I have same problem.
Today I update my S4 19505 to JB 4.3 with Kies.
Everything went well, until I locked phone and realize that there is no network signal.
When I chose GSM only everything work.
I am on T-mobile.
What can be a problem.

I have the same problem.
I tried all radios and the problem persist.
Everything works fine on google editon, but I have to say that samsung roms are much usable.
Solution:
Do not use roms based on mj7, use roms based on mj5 or go back to 4.2.2
I have tested all radios many kerneles with many mj7 based roms and always had this problem.
With mj5 based roms and rom based on 4.2.2 android everything is alright.

Nop. That doesn't work either. It still drops data connection if you set phone to 4G/3G/2G, and you move with your phone on deep sleep to a low 4G coverage area. It gets connection back as soon as you turn on the screen...

I don't have any of those.
I'm having this issue too after updating to the most recent CM nightly. I thought it was the nightly, but after after multiple wipes and even different ROMs, I still seem to have this issue. My mobile network drops as soon as I put the phone to sleep. When I turn on the screen, sometimes it connects automatically, sometimes I have to airplane mode and back. If I change my mobile network to 2G (gsm), it stays connected. Wifi always stays connected it appears.
