Hi all,
I'm reading about the rooting of the x10 and possible froyo installs at some point.
The only thing for me at the minute thats missing from the x10 is flash.. Do those that know this kind of thing, think that a flash install will be built for 1.6/2.1 at some point in the future? or is 2.2 the only way I will get flash on the phone..
I'm a noob with Android and while its nice to see people excited about rooting, I don't get the advantage of it?!

I originally thought that too, but I've since found out that flash 10.1 (the one we want) will only run on 2.2 (Froyo) or higher.
So no flash for us in Q3!
The info can be found on Adobe's own site.
I think the only way for us to get it running on the x10 any time soon is through custom ROMs.
I doubt SE will deliver 2.2 for a long while if at all.
That's not true, look at the desire, it supports flash too and runs on 2.1 too. I don't know how HTC has done that. But as far as I know it's flash 10.1 lite

Yeah I used to have a HTC Hero and HTC integrated a version of flash lite (flash lite 3) into its browser too. The hero was on Android 1.5.
Unfortunately though it was hit and miss as it was akin to an older flash version so the sites with the later versions of flash wouldn't play.
Also videos were choppy at best and not fully optimized for the handset. I believe the desire will be similar it uses flash lite 4.
Only the flash 10.1 is akin to what you'd have on desktops/laptops, so you could play videos in browser on the BBC website e.t.c. and have they play well.
In anycase it won't come with 2.1. Thats just something HTC integrate into their own browser, the Sony x10 probably won't get it.
Here is a link to Adobe's press release.
http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/pressreleases/201006/06222010FlashPlayerAvailability.html
The original confusion was that flash for Android was announced to be released on Android 2x. So we all thought 2.1, it was later confirmed that it was in the 2x series but it was to be 2.2 froyo.
its the BBC that means I want 10 on my x10.. so looking like root and 2.2 when it becomes available.. thanks for input

Me too! it would've been great to watch some of the world cup matches on this thing whilst at work!
Flash Lite 4 is what runs on 2.1, hmmm, I was sure I read that it supported 2.1 on Adobe's site. Well Skyfire 2.1 is out and it handles flash better than Adobe's Flash

I guess it will be possible to get flash lite working on 2.1. However it OS not something we can just install, it was something HTC got working with their handsets.
The difference is that anyone with 2.2 can download 10.1 from the market and install. Flash lite is not readily available (as far as I'm aware)
If anyone has any links e.t.c that are current and state that flash 10.1 (the one we want) will be available on 2.1 could you please post them? Cheers
I tried skyfire but was unable to get the content I wanted to play. Has anyone in the UK got skyfire to work with the world cup or Iplayer?

you can already use USTREAM
sure, but its not the same as having the flash engine installed on the phone!!
There maybe hope yet!!
Whilst searching the net I came across this little gem.
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-flash-10-1-on-android-2-1-eclair-devices/
According to this we will be able to install flash 10.1 on our x10 after the 2.1 upgrade. Aside from the fact the performance may not match devices running flash on 2.2, it will work.
----------------------
GUTTED ... just checked this info with the Motorola milestone forum and it appears the info above is not accurate.
Many have tried installing flash and it has not worked. they seem to believe this hack will only work with HTC devices, which are already designed to run flash lite.
Oh well it was fun while it lasted!
With the chineese rom are you able to change the language to english or is it best to keep using baked roms until a official english rom or cynogen 6 comes out
You can change it to English, but you won't be able to root it. Baked ROMs are a better bet if you want to keep root.

But that isn't giving us the 450% faster phone that the 2.2 was supposed to give us :/
450% = 4.5 times faster

It was never going to be that much faster than 2.1, especially with JIT disabled.
What are the drawbacks of flashing this ROM, if any?
The main thing that I want from 2.2, apart from more speed, is to be able to install to sd card. Is this possible iwth this?
TIA
I've flash with that rom , and now, I just want to get back to eclair or a baked froyo, that rom is full of problem : not a real android market(htc market) chinese apps, and the worst : I can't use the web browser but I can get my emails.
So if someone got an idea to root that rom or to roll back to a previous version , I'm open to your propositions.
I've already try with unrevoked , and with a goldcard.
So is the Chinese rom available. Where can I download it?

are there release notes?
also wondering if i should flash this or wait for official htc froyo...?
I'm waiting for official froyo but maybe I should try this rom. But I have some questions before
Does it have FM radio? It'll be possible with released sources from HTC?
And wifi hotspot support?
Is root necessary? Can you unroot once the rom is installed? Altought temporary root can be useful (like sudo in linux), being always root is a big security hole. I'm not sure if many people understant what being root means in linux (and android).

Not AP, but Ad-Hoc works using barnacle
Yes, it is.
Rooting is not much more of an issue - you still need to specifically give apps superuser permissions
ok so im downloading 2.05 now. willl update to froyo first.
is rooting froyo easier or will i have to downgrade back to 1.31?
hope visionary+ or Z4root work with froyo. that would be a life saver coz download speeds are slow and expensive in my country :S
Anyone compared performance froyo vs CM6.1?

flashing this rom, the kernel change? if yes, is OC?

I had the vodafone froyo rom but I flashed CM6.1 as soon as it came out. (used nightlies before)
And CM6.1 is just that bit snappier. If you don't really worry about that split second diffence (but I do) then you should go for Sense (it's nicer )
But I just like a snappy phone (I should have bought the Desire I know )

Lets see how many of the ppl thats updating to froyo now finally will go for CM6.1
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
Yeah, I'm waiting for some feedback. Using MoDaCo's Custom Froyo at the moment. Nothing GREAT, so if CM6.1 is worth it, I will install that.
Let the feedbacks begin!
Just wanted to say that I rooted to Cyanogen before froyo came to the Legend.
All in all I think I prefer it over 2.1 Legend.
It took a few days to get used to and I have missed a few HTC goodies - namely sync and the HTC keyboard (which is suprisingly a mile ahead of the default Android one). But there is a workaround (I've been told) so will give that a try soon.
I'm ever so tempted to give Sense Froyo a go and see what it's like as I don't really have anything to compare it to.
All in all though - I can't really say I've missed Sense too much; I've noticed a few things that stock Android could learn from Sense but on the whole not missed majorly.
If I upgrade to Sense Froyo - can I then root again or am I stuffed?
ta
(oh and rooting was a piece of piss... After I stopped cursing for an hour and realised I needed to downgrade.)
My Wife is running the gingerbread leak version 2.3.3. What rom will work with this? What is the best rom thats stable and the most used basically. Will I have to sbf back to froyo or is there a rom that works with gingerbread?
Hop on droidforums.net or mydroidworld.com for a slew of Gingerbread roms. Honestly , they're are all great in their own way, it all depends on how her DX reacts to the rom. No two DXs will accept a rom the same. That's just the way it is.. Also drewgaren.com is making some serious noise w/a slew of roms himself..Check him out. Am a beta tester for him and OMG, he's sik w/the roms..
I was just wondering why there are no custom froyo roms, even know GB is coming out some time this month or next, but all gb roms that are out are betas.
I would like to see something stable from you awesome devs !
I have been using the Gingerbread ROM by KennethPenn and recently switched to Ninja.. Both have been extremely stable (Kenneth's one is a basically stock build with added speed hacks that he can't test, hence the beta) with minor bugs. I say keep developing for Gingerbread

+1 agreed.
What I've got running now is far smoother than anything Froyo.
ORFR234, deodexed, zipaligned, SD card hack, multi-touch enhancements, OC kernel with voltage profiles, etc, etc.
Haven't played with any ROMs because I honestly don't like themes. It's easy as heck to do as well. Just read all the guides and you can't go wrong
The reason that there aren't any Froyo roms being developed is that the Bootloader isn't unlockable with Froyo on it. You'd need to upgrade to Gingerbread to unlock the bootloader, so there's no real sense in trying to make a new rom for an outdated version of the operating system.
and If you go back to froyo with unlocked bootloader,You have a hard brick.
I am using cherryblur 1.3 with stock theme,so far I find it far better than froyo stock.
Its heating problem is solved and battery is pretty good for me.
only thing I am looking for is processor undervolting and profiles which will work with overclocked kernel .

Not true. Going back to froyo using sbf files *may* hard brick your phone. You can flash to froyo with fruit cake files with very little risk.
