Two questions:
1. I really wish there was a charging indicator? When I plug it in, I want to know it's plugged in without turning on the screen. Anyway to change that? I'm not rooted yet, so prob not, but I figured this is the place to ask.
2. Is there a way to set the talk app to sync? That is, sometimes I'm chatting on gchat at my work computer. then I leave and I continue conversation on my phone (HTC Dinc). My HTC syncs all the conversations so I have the full history of this session, but my xoom doesn't.
thanks!
1. The charging indicator only lights up if the device is powered off.
2. My Gtalk conversations sync up properly when moving from device to device. I see it all on my Xoom, my Droid x and my PC

1. You can set the screen to not turn off when charging and the lock screen will show the battery level and "Charging" when it is charging. The screen will dim but not completely turn off which is acceptable to me.
2. Dunno, never used it.But Trillian does this and works on the Xoom.

Gtalk syncs fine on my dinc, but not my xoom. Is there a specific setting? Did you do anything or did it just work?

When I updated my 8525 to WM6, I haven't been able to connect to active sync...
I plug the USB cable into the phone, and with active sync open, and all that happens is the light glows orange for about 2 seconds then shuts off. The charging icon disappears also. When I leave it plugged in, when the screen blanks out the orange light comes back on, but it never connects to active sync. When I turn it back on, the light goes out and I'm back to square one.
I plugged it into the charger, and it charges fine, so I know it's not the port on the phone. I've tried this with multiple cables and different chargers and nothing... Don't know what to do.
I have it sync with Exchange for my corporate emails. Could that have something to do with it?

did u go to start>setting>connections>USB to PC> and un-check Advance Network
Thank you!!!!
I totally forgot about that! Did it and it worked!!!
Hi
Yes I know its better to charge from the wall than from my PC however... Phone charges with no problem from wall outlet but when plugged into computer (for active sync reasons etc..) the battery icon stays the same and does not indicate charging. It used to work fine and I just used to leave it overnight so it would be ready to take to work the following day but not anymore.
Anyone come across this one before?
Tia

Have you checked the setting under Settings --> System --> Power?
Thanks [email protected] you hit the nail on the head.
Think I know how this one happened too.. sometimes when I have been on a call I go to end it and the power screen has been on. I must have accidentally ticked the box with my face
Thank you for a very speedy response.

lol hahaha
I noticed that the phone turns the moment the charger is connected to it (or if the USB cable is attached from a PC that is on). There doesn't seem to be a way to charge the phone with it switched off.
Do the others notice the same behaviour or is this a problem with my Omnia? Is there a way to disable this?
Yeah I have the same thing you cannot charge it while it is turned off. This is true from all the iPhones I have used aswell. It isn't a fault don't worry about it.
I don't know if it can be disabled but why would you want to out of interest?
I tend to charge the phone at night and don't want to receive calls.....

Flightmode is your friend
Settings -> Flightmode on
That cuts all wireless connections, you won't receive calls or SMS at night.
Noticed this too, my phone also reboots when I connect it to a charger too - anyone else had that happen?
With some reading i;ve been doing, *only recently started reading up about li-ion bats* seems they might be on to gain optimal charge / long life at the right voltage.
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries
might be why...
I'm doing more research into it. But another reason i can think of is, When it's on. Boot up time isn't there. Flight mode is. I use it rather than turning a phone off now, saves turning on the other end, i can play a game, watch a video, listen to music on the plane and charge it on a socket ready for the other end.
Yes, i noticed this issue also... as i remember, in a small book that came with my phone there is written you can charge you phone when its switched off - it will charge faster.. but theres not written how never mind, its like that, and thats the way it is...
Oh this would be bad. I charge my phone at nights too, and have it next to my bed. If the screen would be on it would be too bright to sleep with (I'm a very light sleeper). Hmm...

No, the screen won't be on
The screen turns off after a minute or you can press the standby button manually.
It's just that you can't switch off the phone completely when it is connected to a charger.

Maybe it's some kind of power management that the OS is doing therefore it needs to be on.
Battery life is great on WP7 after all.
It's confirmed by pocketnow.com
the WP7 OS doesn't allow you to charge while the phone is off
This behavior started last night after activating Monitor power usage in the battery settings section. Deactivating it didnt help. I tried removing battery and that has not worked either. Im down to going back to stock or maybe even reinstalling an earlier Miui backup I have to see if that works first. Any advice would be appeciated, thanks.

And what's the problem with the screen turning on when you connect usb? It's normal and it also happens in stock roms.
I don't know if it's the same thing, but something similar happened to me too. What i did was just cleaning the micro-usb connector on the bottom of the phone. This never happened to me anymore.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
you just created a connection between 2 pins in the connector, the same as when you plug in the charger, its normal behaviour, dont worry about it.
Go into Application settings (or Development, can't remember where it is on MIUI) and turn off "keep screen awake". It's for developers who don't want the phone to sleep while debugging.
Ok I think I finally found what was causing this. It only happens when USB debugging is turned off. When I turn it back on Im able to charge without the phone automatically booting back up. Im not sure if this is a bug. Should it be behaving like this?

Verrified that and its turned off. Turning debugging mode off causes my issue though. I find that kinda wierd.
USB debugging mode has always been weird on MIUI - on my GS2 it doesn't recognise that the USB cable has been disconnected until you reboot the phone.
Thanks for the tip, I've been wondering the same thing myself. This was a pain when I was trying to charge my phone at work with it off. Thanks.
PS: I really wish people would properly read the post before answering with the standard "it's normal, don't worry about it" etc. See it far too often.
Havnt been able to find a fix so far. What I do is I keep debugging mode off for everyday use and just turn it on when I need to recharge the phone over night. That way the phone stays off.

settings - developer options - stay awake - uncheck box

Hi,
Some custom roms like AOKP allows to enable / disable the "Wake up on charger". If it's unticked the screen don't turn on if you plug / unplug your phone from USB or wall charger.
EDIT: sorry misreading, it's for wireless charging...
I have accomplished this with some Tasker (app) profiles i found on the forum. I have attached them. The profile turns off the screen after 3 seconds of starting charging then prevents it from coming on again. Perfect for inductive chargers that lose charge for a microsecond every little bit. It also keeps the screen off after removing from the charger, you have to manually press the lock button.

Works for me. Screen never comes on after the first three second, which I lowered to one second. have you locked the phone first before you put it on the charger?

I use the orb to charge my N4 at work. This works great until it reaches a full charge. At this point the screen turns on as wireless charging shuts off. Then a minute or so later when it drains to 99%, the screen turn on as wireless charging starts back up. Then when it reaches full charge a minute or so later.... yada yada yada. This is beyond annoying watching my phone flash continuously. My only "solution" at this point is to slide the phone up so that the wireless charging doesn't work and leave it that way until it drains further. Is there any way to tell the screen to NOT come on when charging starts or stops?

How familiar are you with messing with Android?
In system\framework\framework-res.apk\res\values\bools.xml there is this option: <bool name="config_unplugTurnsOnScreen">false</bool>
It is set to true by default but if changed to false, as far as I can tell, the screen won't turn on when you start/stop charging the phone.

I'm assuming you have to be rooted to be able to do this, right?

Yes - best case scenario for editing that value is that you're rooted and deodexed. That way framework-res.apk will be more easily editable.
