Confirmed: EVO tether sends aGPS data to MaxiPad 2 - EVO 4G General

I'm glad I didn't buy into apple saying you needed the 3G MaxiPad 2 to get aGPS. I have successfully gotten the EVO running CyanogenMod 7 with the built in WiFi Hotspot to pass GPS data to the google maps program on the MaxiPad 2. I'm sure it would work on the first MaxiPad as well, and other ROMS too. I't seems it passes GPS data to the MaxiPad every 30-60 seconds, so it's not good enough for turn-by-turn (but aGPS really never is). If you need turn-by-turn, you can do what I did and buy a bluetooth GPS receiver (very cheap, under $30) and install roqyBluetooth on your MaxiPad and then youll have real GPS. Unfortunately we need a jailbreak first before we can instal roqyBluetooth, but that will be coming any day. So for any of you considering buying the 3G version soley so you could have GPS like I was, don't bother. You can 4G/3G tether for free, and have aGPS for free, or spend the $30 and have real GPS. I thought I'd post this as many people in line were talking about getting 3G models solely to have aGPS. Now you know.

Well...seems lots of douches have ipads. So I guess it fits?
Sent from my Evo "Z" unit on xda app.

The other option is a bluetooth GPS connected to the ipad, which is in turn, tethered to your Evo. i used that on a road trip recently and it worked great. Gps cost me about $20 on ebay.

What the ****? Just use Google Navigation..... No need for a ****ty iPad or tethering and all that ****.

Well if your gonna cough up the $$ for an ipad that can do everything your evo can do, you better believe your gonna have a mess of wires and syncing just to use the ipad as a gps and show it off.

Tethering Droid Eris

I currently have an unlocked Touch Diamond on AT&T that I tether to my laptop and use very often for an internet connection since I live in an area where I cannot get anything other than dial-up over a line. I've seen that the international Hero has software from HTC for tethering in Windows, but I'm thinking that this is probably not the case with the branded phones here in the US, which is unfortunate since I'm no longer under contract and Verizon has better coverage in my hometown and surrounding area. Do people know of any tethering possibilities with the Eris?

Wow, it's not that I don't believe you, but this does almost seem to good and simple to be true. Are there a couple others with experience with this program that might be able to advise of potential pitfalls, or is this really as perfect for what I need as it looks?

Yes, I found PDAnet after hours of searching for a tethering solution and tried it. Works like a champ. I have had no issues to date using it. It also let me put my iPhone loving friend in his place.

It's a FAKE "PSP" phone. Why they would use a fake/knockoff phone in a promo shot is beyond me.

And my lols have been delivered.
I wonder how long the battery lasts, and if they'll charge a $10 data fee for it.
I really like the silver antennae on the clip board. Do you think it's 4G too?
Guys, the little box in the middle shares WiFi to devices like that. Lol

Finally! A smart phone that does everything I ask of it!

Probably a stoopid thread, but I can honestly say that this thing rocks!
Every smarty phone I've had to date had multiple things that made me go ARGGGGGHH.
my SIII has done everything I've asked of it. Bluetooth, data reception, wifi, phone reception etc has all been spot on.
Usually at some point on my previous phones I'd go.....wtf !?! But honestly, I have not said that yet. I've found that if it was unfamiliar or different than my previous phones, I usually like it once I figure it out.
Now Tmo's reception......not so good.
But I like Tmo though. After many bad experiences with other carriers, they've been a pleasure, over all, to deal with.
Positive rant over........
True. This phone is excellent. A joy to use and even after I have all my apps and settings loaded it is still lightning fast. Oh and the camera is great.

A different experience compared to our G2x's isn't it? Loving mine so far. You're in Texas so you may like this. I found a nice case at the T-Mobile store that is silver. Combined with the blue phone it looks great and is Dallas Cowboys colors!

Well, mine won't do wifi tethering, FM radio, toggle LTE, or several other things. But that's all thanks to AT&T, not the phone itself

[Q] Has anyone else found that Google wallet works on N7?!

Just for fun I decided to try to sign into Wallet. I didn't have any faith that it works since it doesn't work on my Evo LTE. Not only did it activate, it showed $10 in my account. What was interesting was that the $20 I loaded onto the phone does not show on the tablet. Obviously, it's device dependent.

I can't wait to look so cool at Starbucks by swiping my tablet to pay.
I read about the update but I missed the part where someone said it works. I have it on my phone and it doesn't work, despite being one of the features that was played up.

It should work. It was pushed out and can make payments without being connected to the internet.
As a matter of fact, I activated it on my gnex and I got the ten dollar credit. I used it with no problem. Today I got my Nexus 7 and set it up, and got another ten dollar credit. The gnex shows balance zero, the 7 says ten dollars. For what it's worth, if you set up wallet on a rooted device, there is a warning art the top of every screen that the device is not supported for security reasons. Everything still works fine though!

Blue tooth device

Hey people, I have a question if I may...
I have a p7500 for my mum and she has a sim card she uses. Now with the recent voice call patch now functional, I want her to use this as her main phone, however, using a tablet as a phone out and about can be quite inconvenient.
Here lies the question. I am after a device, preferably bluetooth, which can be used as a functioning handset.
I. E. It has a mic and a speaker, a touch screen to dial numbers and text, basically all the phone features, but without the phone... This will allow my mum to use the smaller phone type device to make calls and texts while out and use the tablet as normal when in the house
Now some of you may be thinking that this device cannot exist! But there is something similar out there, the Samsung Yepp yp-p2
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_YEPP#YP-P2
The only drawback this has is its lack of an internal speaker thus requiring the use of headphones, which isn't ideal...
Your thoughts?

And what does your mum want?
What you're suggesting seems like a whole lot of aggro for a gaint step backwards. Buy her a cheap phone, it'll be far easier.
If you want to persist maybe you could connect a hands free car kit to her shopping trolley. Battery might be a bit heavy though

HTH
Thanks for this pointless reply
Ideally my mum would like 2 devices which share the same number. Now it's not possible to clone the sim, I am looking at alternatives
I already have bought her a cheap phone, but this means she cannot use the sim in the tablet, which means she cannot use 3g which means she cannot call or text from the tablet. She gets 3gb worth of data a month and this is going to waste at the moment.
In terms of your opinion and attempted humor, thanks, its funny. :-[
In terms of going a step backwards, connecting a tab to a handset? Really? In the future if you have no value to add, please refrain from posting
