hi everybodye sorry for the question but im new on this, well i have a htc hd2 from tmobile, i install android nand, following directions of a forum from here, everything is working good, i install setcpu from market and it do not let me configure it,so i install root check and it said is NOT rooted, my question is how can i root my phone,, please help.. thanx a lot and sorry if my question is stupid for some of you guys
As long as you have hspl you should be rooted. I would check to make sure you have setcpu superuser permission

Look in your app tray and see if you have a Superuser icon. If you do then ckick in it and then find where it says allow superuser access. Most Andriod ROMs for tbe HD2 are already rooted when you install them. If you do not have a Superuser icon then Google "z4root" it is a one click root app that works. You will have to dowmload it unzip/extract the apk and copy it to your SD card and then use a file manager to navigate to the apk file and open it this will install the app to your phone. This is also what is known as "sideloading" in Andriod. Open the app and click on Root now button and it will root your phone.
Using a cpu overclock app has a downside as well as the upside of a faster response when in use.
The downside is that when downclocked and idle, the phone can take a couple of seconds to clock up to the operating speeds required - on some roms its more noticable than others. but a good solid ROM does not need this boost and there a few on here

im having exactly the same problem doing my head in ,i installed a nand gingerbread rom that is faultless it cracked it and gave me a super user icon however the superuser never opens and when i install certain programmes they need root access and its saying my phone is not rooted ive checked with a rooting app and it says no root ive tried several methods that has not worked ie superoneclick gingerbreak nothing seems to work
any help would be appreciated
im not a novice ive flashed many devices etc cant seem to figure out why i havent got root though

Hello guys, last friday I successfully installed Froyo on my HTC HD2 and now I want to use the application MarketAccess but it throws an error when I try to emule the T-Mobile USA SIM(actually any that I try to emule), it says:
You need root(superuser) to use this application. It looks like "su" is not available on your device.
Please root your phone and ensure that "su" works fine.
I have superuser installed, could anyone tell me if my phone is rooted if not how to do it with this phone(remember that is does not have native Android) or how to make the "su" work and grant root permissions to my applications.

I have the same problem, I already have SuperUser on the ROM i flashed on the device, but it seems it's not rooted.
I checked for one click solutions to root it, like Z4Root, Universal Androot and SuperOneClick, but I couldn't find any confirmation that these work for a non-native Android device like the HD2 and I really don't want to brick my phone.
Help, please?
Open up super user and let the su binary get updated, or you can d/l z4 root.

Hi, how do i know if i successfully rooted my desire hd?? I installed visionary r14 and hit temp root, then i did perm root.... The phone rebooted and the superuser icon was installed. So what happens next???
I recently got my desire hd on Vodafone and was disappointed to find some hideous Vodafone bloatware installed (vodafone 360) I rightly or wrongly assumed that if i rooted my phone i would be able to remove the vodafone junk? However when i go into the applications manager the uninstall icon is still greyed out even though i have perm rooted (i think)
So, am i rooted? is there something else i needed to do first before i can remove these apps that i want rid of?
If it helps, my vodafone branded phone is installed with android version: 2.2 - software number: 1.39.161.1

Well, you could run the S-OFF tools, install rom manager and recovery, and install a custom rom.
Would get you up to 2.2.1 and a clean, fast phone
Download Terminal emulator from the market en typ in SU, if it says Terminal emulator got SuperUser rights you're rooted
Also, you could take a look on the android development thread, you can learn quite a bit over there

yep sounds like your rooted, but at the moment with S-ON you are unable to make permanent changes to /system, thus you can't remove system apps to do this you need to S-OFF instructions here

You cannot remove system apps from the "manage applications" menu.
The simplest way, now that you have root and s-off is to use an app called Titanium Backup from the market. It uses root privileges to allow you to remove any app.
You can also use Root Explorer to navigate to /system/app and delete the relevant .apk files manually. Use with caution.
The third way is to download the android sdk platform tools and use adb via a command line on your pc.
adb remount (gives write access to phone)
adb shell ls /system/app (lists contents of system app directory)
adb shell rm /system/app/junk.apk (removes junk.apk or the relevant file)

Sooooo..... Should i decide to flash a rom, such as leedroid, what is my next step??
Steps performed so far:
1. Perm Rooted using Visionary R14
2. S-Off using One click Radio S-OFF tool
3. I have removed some system apps using Titanium Backup.
Is my next step to download Rom Manager, do a Clockwork mod backup and then flash leedroid??
Or,
Do i need to also do ENG S-Off first? using One Click ENG S-OFF?
And do i have to flash a different radio before putting one of these custom roms on there?

Just thought of a question i maybe should of asked sooner.....
Should i have done the 'Gold Card' thing before i rooted, and did S-Off??
Or is it ok to do it now? (i've still not added any new roms yet) Or do i even need to do it at all?
since i've already root, what i hope for is I should had never need to use gold card!
So I have downloaded directly to my phone bootstrap and Z4root. They are on my SD card.
I've enabled USB Debugging.
I can now run the z4root apk without loading the Android SDK and connectiing my phone to the PC, right? I came to this conclusion from reading the noobs Guide Sticky that said this:
"...If you don't want to have to mess with this method of installing, you could also download "Astro File Manager" from the android market. You would then need to save z4root.apk to your sdcard of your Droid X. Then open the Astro program and browse to your SDcard and file the z4root.1.3.0.apk...."
I ask because I read some threads about having downloaded the z4root to their PC first, then copying it to the SD & having had better luck that way.....or did I mis-read these threads?

All you have to do is install the app and run it. If it doesn't do anything let it go for 15-20 minutes then pull the battery and try again.
For the question about the bootstrap, some people may want to return completely to stock and they will no longer be rooted. I personally wouldn't ever want to do that but some people may want to do this

no, z4root is an app that can root and unroot you, there are options you can select. what you have described is that people download the apk onto their computer since download capability is faster, then transfer it to the sd card of their phone where they install te app and run it allowing them to root. z4root is completely stand-alone and can be downloaded and run without a computer if you so choose.
Koush's dxbootstrapper is an app that allows your phone to hijack the boot process to be able to install custom roms, and access the bootstrap recovery. it is needed if you want to customize your phone. the noobs guide tells you haw to uninstall it if you so choose so that it doesnt show up if you return your phone so you dont get in sum trouble wit vzw for example.

I didn't do anything to it yet, but i was wondering if there was a way to find out if it was rooted already. i wasn't sure if the guy i bought it from did anything to it

No, rooted means to have read/write priveliges in the root filesystem in Android, If your phone's ROM is not rooted, you will not be able to modify, copy, paste or delete files in such folders as /system, /dev, etc. in the phone's internal memory, even with such a great app as Root Explorer. HSPL has nothing to do with this, it is a modified SPL, or bootloader, which is the software which loads your operating system, or whatever it is programmed to load at bootup, such as MAGLDR or clk.
Most if not all the ROMs here in the XDA forums come pre-rooted btw.
If you want to know if your phone is rooted, here's an easy way. Go into the Android market and install Terminal Emulator. Open it and type 'su' without the quote marks. If the little symbol where you're typing turns from a '$' to a '#', then you have root access, your ROM is rooted. If it stays a '$', you're not rooted and should search for an app called Z4Root.

Hey people,
I've been trying for a while now to root my sister's Intercept (virgin mobile). I've looked all over the place and no method seems to work. Does anyone know of a way to do it?
I've tried:
z4root apk (said phone is rooted but su wasn't installed and all other apps said it wasn't, including root checkers)
intercept root apk (same as above)
SuperOneClick (latest version) (stopped in the middle and never completed, always fails)
Gingerbreak apk (just reboots the phone and doesn't do anything)
Any ideas? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The intercept root apk worked like cake for me. I would try doing a factory reset then using that apk first thing after rebooting. It doesn't work with FB01 (Sprint) Intercepts after a February 29, 2012 update, but it should still work with EC07 (VM).

Once you've used the app once and reboot your phone, open it again and if it worked you should see options to either unroot or install CM01 custom recovery (recommended if you want to flash roms onto it).

The z4root dont work on the intercept anymore. and the inerceptroot.apk on my phone would say that it was failed or what not and i would use root apps and they would still work (even without superuser)
I have been using a optimus v but I have an intercept that's rooted with super one click. Its a brand new phone just opened it and runs like crap slow and just tards out. Rooted it to try and fix it still a no go. Any clues

I have the sprint version, interceptroot.apk worked until the latest FB01 update, after that I had to us samsung SWupdater to load customer recovey
Intercept root apk should work with the VM intercept. I recently tried that method on mine, but I had to do it a couple of times before it actually rooted it.

Id just start from scratch and find a stock rom to flash. I used to have a VM intercept for a painful 2 years. Sometimes you just need to start over with a fresh rom.

Its still stock rom never fa
lashed anything on the phone. Its actually started working like a normal intercept. Had it off for about 2 weeks then turned it on recently and works alot better. I'm pretty much using the phone as a play toy seeing what I can change and explore all the files to get a better idea about android. Maybe I can find a way to make the intercept a good phone.e( highly unlikely, since it is an intercept)

Intercept root
i have an intercept from VM and it was easily rooted with interceptroot.apk Google it, a safe copy will be found on sdx-developers website.
this should get you started, make sure you download the file with your phone, click the home button. Next, click the settings button on your phone, go to applications and then in the following menu, go to development and turn on usb debugging and use the back icon, next allow unknown sources in the menu you are now into again, and click the home button yet again.
Make sure you have some sort of file browser, I personally prefer the app "file expert" but others have their own preferences. (you can use any file tools, like: es file explorer(free), file explorer(free and paid), file expert(free and donate versions), root explorer(free and paid verisons). Anyways, go to your sdcard with the file tool, locate the folder called download, and tap the icon that says "intercept-root.apk" make sure its version 1.35!
You should be asked if you'd like to install, select install. *** NOTE: if you have an antivirus on your phone(whats the point?) you'll get a pup warning, it does not mean its a virus, just a Potentially Unwanted Program, which means that you might not want to install just because it will void your warranty.. if you don't mind, JUST IGNORE! ****
next, you will have a few options, might I suggest permanent root so you don't have to keep rooting your device, it will also have other options and install a handy icon inside your applications menu screen for safe keeping!
You should be all good to go, to find out, go to the google play store and download a program thats free called "root checker basic" It will let you know if your good to go or not.
That concludes the fast off the top of my head tutorial! happy rooting!
*** Update ***
This intercept root apk file also has the option to install the CM01 recovery mod (flash) if your into modding or wanting to flash the phone to a new network sometime (why????) you might want to use this too, make sure to read up on it, I personally have not done it and choose not to, at least yet.. This is important if you want to install roms, kernels (like crappy-kernel) and opens more features to your phone, but can render it into a paper weight if your not careful and PAY ATTENTION!
