lost my browser icon - Epic 4G General

not sure if it happened after i rooted, or after i tried sprint ID. anyone else lose their browser icon?

I had the same problem when doing the Bonsai beta last week. I just flashed Bonsai again and it got rid of the problem. Did you click on the Sprint ID installer?

yeah... like i said i'm not sure if it was rooting the phone that did it or sprint ID...

ok they renamed it Internet. i feel both stupid and annoyed. at least its there though. carry on people

Another T-Mobile update this morning?

About 8:45AM EST, my phone, for the second time this month, did a little update. I let it go through the process since the last one went well. Nothing really happened. It asked me to restart, I did, then it just booted back up.
Did anyone else get this? Also, does anyone know what it did? I still have 2.1-update1 so eh?
Thanks!
What does it show your baseband and build number as?

i got the update this morning but after being bricked the last time they sent out and update, i refuse to download this ****... i absolutely need to find a hack that will disable receiving tmo's ota's...
One of my friends got a second on to.

Maybe its to fix the problems with JI6?
Can anyone confirm this "update" and what it does?

If you got an update message. And you're still on JFD. that update is probably your JI6...

Second update here as well. I ran the (soft brick-inducing) update a week or so ago too.
Today: un-rooted, let it do its thing. Took like 2 minutes tops.
Baseband version still listed as JI2 (though to be honest, I don't know how it got to that in the first place. as far as I knew, I had been running JFD all along).

I just received mine from Samsung repair..yesterday.. I noticed it states:
2.1-update1
T959UVJI6
2.6.29
Eclair.UVJI6
I bricked mine last week with the lag fix.. No lag whatsover now and the gps is dead nuts to my location.. That was the two biggest gripes i had.

I don't know, I'd say if you don't have the JI6 and you just got an update notification, it's probably that. Since you are still running JFD.

IDK tho. When I get these updates, nothing seems to happen. The phone reboots, says SAMSUNG GALAXY VIBRANT, reboots again, and then loads up.
I never seems to notice any changes or performance. Plus, my GPS still blows.
Not sure. Could always wipe And manually install Ji6 And see What happens? If you want to. Havent seen anyone else on other forums say anything about an update after JI6.

I say just use Kies Mini if you want the update and cant wait. I thought I could wait but couldnt and I didnt feel like messing with Odin (yet). Grabbed Kies Mini, connected the phone after backing up everything and I didnt remove root. Phone updated fine and I lost root but not data, no bricking, no nothing. Re-Rooted and have no complaints about JI6 except the MediaHub related processes you have to kill. just to add to the topic, a couple days ago, the device management icon popped up in my notification bar and when i pulled down the notification tab it stated it was trying to connect to the DM sever. The same thing that happened when I followed the instructions in the "how to Force the OTA update" thread.
Hello!
I think its for the gps lag fix. my gps works really well now

EC05 ROMs and Sprint ID

I would like to vote for NO Sprint ID. My kids had Transforms (until they switched to evo shifts). That ID stuff .. SUCKS ....

It is something they added that is basically like a theme changer.
who said anythign about sprint ID in EC05?
It's not really a theme changer what T-Mobile made for 2.3 is a theme changer, it basically is a application pack that gives you certain apps/advertisements varying on what pack you download. It's a crappy idea because all it does is change your wallpaper and give you random applications. Doesn't benefit the user.

Not quiet true. Basically it allows you to choose what Sprint apps you want on your phone and other customizations. It adds widgets ect. It's one single apk and will be easily removable...... Now if Sprint really wanted to make life easier they would make Samsung scrap TW
Sprint said they were including Sprint ID on all their phones when they first announced it. In a Q&A they said it was coming to the Epic. I was surprised it wasn't in EB13.

Yep, it's too bad they fixed it. I was in store yesterday showing off CM7 to my friend who is the manager and he was very impressed by the way....any how he asked me if I was having any problems with my Fascinate, I said no, it's great.
He said " aren't you having an issue, wink wink" I said yeah maybe, why is it discontinued so they are replacing with a new model.....he said yes, the Charge or several other models....he then began to punch keys on his computer and said oh nope they canceled the deal because the OTA fixes the calling issue. He said the offer went for about a week before the update came out. It is supposed to fix the issue where you get a voicemail but never an incoming call... hell I thought it was a network issue, not a device issue. Oh well, updated to the new ED04 then installed JTs CM7
Kicking ass and taking names on gingerbread
CM7 ooooh yeah

While I'm not having a missed call issue, I am having a problem with Data going on and off and random and doesn't matter where I am at. I can drive around a 30 mile radius and it still seems to be a problem.
Here is something I thought I would pass along. I called verizon this morning and just told them that I have calls that were going straight to voicemail without the phone ringing and without getting a missed call message. I told them that I did a factory reset and that did not fix the problem. They then gave me the option to switch to the charge, incredible 2 or the droid x. I didn't have to do anything else and now will be rocking 4g on the charge!
Now I feel like getting this update to see if I get that straight to voicemail problem. I want the Charge, damn it. >.< haha
Bow chika wah wah
^Hmmmmm...
I would have taken the Droid X so I could be rocking a full Gingerbread. I've seen the Inc2 in the store and reception is worse than the SF.

damn !!
well in past one and a half month of getting my vzn fsc , i have tried practically all Roms available and all the radios , and really
this freakin no missed call ( yet bloody missed ) is killing me ,
sometimes i have flashed my phone like 10 times in a row on any given day to just find a combo having no missed calls thingy , better battery and better voice and data ,
ultimately gonna go back to DL09
but i sincerely think neither vzn nor sprint is gonna be able to fix this missed call thing in the cdma version of android os , its the mess created by google , they are just not able to fix it and they are hiding it .
Its was never a network issue its there in the OS.

Nope, nobody has found the exploit in it yet. if you do the update, you are stuck without root for now...neither perm nor temp work. I totally screwed myself.

The only thing I really NEEDED to be rooted for was tethering. So, for now I'm using PDAnet. It's only USB and Bluetooth, but good enough until somebody fixes the rooting problem. Otherwise i actually LIKE Gingerbread.

won't you end up with a refurb? Or is that just for warranty returns?
I just got a new one due to a bad speaker, and it's a refurb. Doesn't have the update installed, so if I get the ambition I'm going to have to root the new one today, and run the RUU on the old one later tonight lol.

Pay for the wifi hotspot?
i already pay 90 a month.. sprint gets enough. i tried tethering with usb using pdanet and then once it was connected i set up my computer as a router.. unfortunately pdanet's mtu setting is inadequate. wish i could revert to 2.2. but don't know how. just hope someone can break 2.3.3. i can still access bootloader. just remove the battery and volume down and power and that loads it but i can revert.and suggestions?
i did. im friends with the tech at mine and he said it wasnt a good idea.
You are going to have to be patient and wait for an exploit to be found like the rest of us. I'm about ready to re-activate my old Palm Pre and use it until this gets figured out...the wifi tethering works GREAT on it and it was EASY to hack/install and OTA updates don't kill it.

Iam guessing you are in T-Mobile, if yes go to the T-Mobile store any explain them about the problems you face.
If you are using some other carrier, check whether the sim is perfectly unlocked and try to unlock using an alternate method.
Oh well would they still accept it even if its rooted and has the miui rom? Or do I have to revert to stock? If I do can someone prove a link on how to.

Best thing before going to T-Mobile store is to revert back to the stock ROM. If they find a custom ROM, they will blame you for it.
