I found someone selling NAND android for the hd2 on craigslist..... pisses me off, so much work dev's put into this and people are selling it.... here's the ad: http://kansascity.craigslist.org/mob/2264692873.html
If this is not the correct place to post this, please move it, it is about nand android so I figured it would be okay here.... and in case he removes the ad because I instructed him to do so, here is the ad:

I say any developers not happy about this give him a call!
I talked with him over text messaging and he claims that he does not know what XDA is and never heard of it....If any mods are interested in his personal info, I am going to have the name registered to this line in a few..... so he can be banned from XDA
yea theres a couple of those on craigslist here in the boston area also
And what he says in his ad about 4g..... does the radio upgrade make it 4g capable? if so, I wasn't aware that it did.....
Ya know... as disgusting as it is, he's not doing anything wrong. It's almost like saying that a mechanic charging to fix your car is ridiculous because they didn't even invent the parts, they're just using their technical know-how to fix it.
He's offering a service - to set up your phone with Android. Don't people pay to get Windows installed on their computers? Or Linux even? I mean, if there's a demand for a service, then there will be a supply of people who will charge for said service.
That being said, I hate how people are stupid enough to pay for this service when all the knowledge is out there for free and you'll be better off learning how to do it on your own because you become more knowledgeable and you can fix the phone on your own if there's some kind of software problem.
These kinds of services are rampant in the Los Angeles Area. These guys usually charge $20 a head. Gotta wonder how many people are dumb enough to shell out any amount of money for this kind of service.
I kind of do see a need out there for that kind of service though. Some folks would rather just fork over the $20 than risk screwing up their phone, and how many noob question threads are there from ppl who cant manage to flash a rom without help even after reading the stickies, etc. It kinda makes for less clutter in the forums, and people are glad to hand over a little cash for the garuntee that they get Android quick and easy. 2 things though:
These people should donate a certain amount of their profits to the devs who made their business possible.
And learning by doing makes you smarter. By reading and applying the knowledge gained, you are better preparing yourself for future challenges. There's always going to be a next cool phone, and today's lesson learned makes tomorrows challenge easier. I would never pay someone to make me dumber and lazier, I'm already dumb and lazy enough

Who in the hell are you to instruct someone to remove an ad off of Craigslist. Is it ****ed up, yeah, but you have absolutely zero right to instruct someone to do anything. Some people would rather pay someone rather than take the time to do it themselves. Some people could care less how they get to point B, just that they get there. Other people would rather pay someone to work on their phone so they don't have to deal with the stress of bricking their device. Anytime there is a dollar to be made, people are going to take advantage of the situation. This isn't the first time, and damn sure isn't going to be the last time.
That being said, hopefully, people that are charging to install Android on HD2's are donating a % of their income to the devs. Without them, it wouldn't be possible.
While were instructing people to do things, I'm instructing you to delete his phone number out of your post.
Diesberg,
Get off your horse before you fall off it. XDA and TW are awesome resources for this interest group but not for everyone. I could go on, but will just leave it with "you're wrong on this one".

This subject has already been debated to death... some people rather pay to have it done instead of learning themselves. At least these craigslist sellers actually meet and do the flashing for you. To charge someone $20 to meet up with them and do the flashing isn't that unreasonable. What bothers me are the people on ebay selling the instructions for $20. One guy I saw made over $10,000 in less than a week selling instructions to install wp7 for $25 ea... I couldn't believe he sold that many.
It think plenty of right is reserved for someone to instruct him to take the ad down. As said above, a certain % of what he makes should be donated to developers, then it would be okay. But we know damn well that he won't donate anything. So I don't think it's right or should be done unless donations are gave to the developer of whatever software is being used. If you took all the time to make such a good rom such as typhoons cm7, I'm sure you wouldn't like someone selling it on an auction site.... but the ones who say this is okay I don't think are developers so you don't understand..... I'm not a developer but I would not be happy if I saw my rom being used for these services if I were the developer.....
Wow, you still don't get it. They don't sell any roms, they offer a service...
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Wow, I do get it. But I still feel like it shouldn't be done without a percentage going to developers.... at least cotulla.....(and I'm not even a huge fan of his work) it would not be possible for someone to sell such a service without the hard work of developers, at least the bootloader dev's. When someone charges to install windows... well, windows must be purchased first(at least for it to be legal) So microsoft gets their share for their work.... no dev is getting a share for his hard work when someone sells the installation service.... and I feel this is not right...... that is my opinion and I am entitled to it just like you are your opinion.......

You are definitely entitled to your opinion, but you're not entitled to instruct someone to remove an ad off of Craigslist, or to post some random dudes phone number on a message board.
this is such an old topic!!! I've been seeing this since I got my first windows mobile phone(Tmobile dash) 3 years ago, shoot you can go to ebay and find tons of ads on buying roms and install services with tech support, and all it is someone online or a text file with step by step instructions on how to do it yourself flashing and modding.
Just because we know XDA and we know how things should be done in the mobile hacking world , it doesn't mean everybody does, or everybody cares, I agree the devs deserve a donation or a percentage of anybody making a profit but it's not going to happen, at least from those people!
I did not post some random dudes number to a message board, I copied and pasted the craigslist ad that this thread is about. Yes, the ad contained his number but that is info you can find on the internet anyways. (craigslist.org)
This topic and all the millions of variations of it over the years are absolutely ridiculous.
This is 100% exactly the same as somebody providing a linux installation/setup/configuration service and anybody who says otherwise simply doesn't have any common sense.

I think it's rather shady that he's talking about installing "4g". What the hell is this loony talking about? That's the real issue here.
I guess there are two sides of the story its nice for people who have no knownledge how to do this but love android.
This hole controversy over the past few days over P3droids post

When i first read this i was stunned, i unloaded a lot of frustration out in another thread but that didn't do anything other than make me feel better, temporarily. I have another year with the Droid X and don't want to just put up with it until i can upgrade. I've enjoyed my Droid X very much and would like it to continue that way but the development on it seems to be dieing. I still see there being much more to do to the device, considering Gingerbread leak was just released and rooted. I don't know how many people flashed the leak but i have... and it makes a huge difference in performance. I am no dev or anything, the most knowledge i have on this concept is rooting, flashing roms, and sbf'ing when something goes wrong. So i just want an idea of what everyone else is doing now that P3droid has said what he had to say. Do you believe it?
This is my question ...why would someone who had this info release a "leak" of the rom they can track down? And still have links up for d/l?
If that was me id advice people not to upgrade to GB and wait for an official release then figure out how to root it... just how they figured out how to root the nexus s g2 mt4g atrix thunderbolt ...its possible ..
Now this is all a "he said she said"thing case ... no evidence no links no emails from Verizon or Motorola ...I understand the tethering and data thing but the root is garbage in my opinion ...it clearly voids warranty so you really think Motorola would be upset if you voided your warranty and have to buy a new phone? Less likely ...just my two cents
And just read where its posted in..
"News and Rumors" .....
That's all I gotta say
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA Premium App
I agree with 100% jeezy. I understand why Verizon would be upset about the tethering, but we all do pay for UNLIMITED data. Verizon is just upset that we found a loophole instead of paying for their wireless tethering. And it is a little fishy that P3droid will be the one person to give us a leak and then immdiately tell us this information. I did take a peak at his twitter the night that he posted that information and aparently he was drunk...hmm.... No disrepect to P3Droid, he may be telling the truth about all of this but we can't tust anyone anymore, especially after the recent rumor that someone cracked the bootloader.
And there is 70 views on this thread already and only 2 votes. Please people, we want everyones input on this topic. Obviously other people are curious too if there are already 70 views lol. If you want to comment and give your opinion, thats great too, but all i ask is if you make those 2 clicks to vote.
The final decision is to stop spamming and trolling about that topic. There is no solid evidence, links, Official ANYTHING for that matter and quite frankly, and I speak for a lot of senior members and those with common sense, I think we all want to stop hearing about it.
There are four posts in this thread, three of them are yours (OP). No one is posting because this is old and dead news on XDA. I doubt this thread will even get to a page two.
Well now someone has their panties in a bunch. The idea for this thread was the poll. Your exactly right in that there is no solid evidence on the topic... Which is the point of the poll. If there were solid evidence, then the topic would be dead. So instead of trashing a thread with your useless information, go make another thread on switching the 3g icon to 4g. Talk about pointless Ben

No this is a waste of space. The poll is meaningless as it is not true. Seriously how in the world can you believe this? If someone honestly truely believes this and not just from a fear campaign I pity them. Verizon and Motorola are coming off saying they don't care if your Zoom is rooted they will upgrade it anyways. Also every Verizon rep I have talked to have no clue what I was talking about and the most recent one went a step farther and claimed it would probably have been a breach of contract on their end.

If it is true it's bullsh#t. If it's a rumor, that's sh#tty too. I hope it's not real, or at least something that never actually happens to us. I don't like the idea of being forced to go back to stock. And why? What was the main reason I got out of all the reading I did? Wireless tether. I don't even use it.
I own my hardware not Verizon.
I haven't changed the code for the baseband which is what interacts with their system.
My user experience is just that, mine.
Isn't a forum an open place for discussion? If you're not interested in the discussion why even read the thread or waste your time commenting on it?
Whatever, regardless if the rumor is true or not I for one am not changing my ways. I will do whatever I want with my phone until Verizon gives me the boot, at which time I will just flash to cricket and enjoy the reduction in my bill.

Sorry for the wall of text. I started typing and next thing I knew I wrote a novel.
Honestly, until I see some news on it, it's just a rumor. I did not upgrade to GB because I would rather wait for some development, but the bottom line is that this is just a rumor.
People have beat the whys, ifs, and hows into the ground so there is no reason for me to talk about them.
If you're so concerned that you have to make multiple threads, polls, and cry to your mother, SBF back to stock and enjoy your stock ROM as best you can. If you were on GB and this is true, VZW already has your MEID so you're ****ed one way or the other. So the only thing I can say is just chill out, crack open a beer, go to work, watch some baseball, jerk off... whatever you do in your spare time that relaxes you. If this whole thing is going to happen it's going to happen and worrying about it won't solve anything. You're already screwed on your current phone if everything P3 said goes down.
Most people here know there are certain risks involved when they mod there phones so if this all goes down, I'll just buy a new one and deal with the wenching from my wife. **** happens; deal with it.
--------------------------------------------------------
Finally, just some food for thought:
I've been using custom ROMs since the days of WinMo 6.5. Unfortunately, my first phone was not hacked due to lack of interest. I think it was the Samsung SCH-i760. While it was not hacked, people were sending this $600 phone bricked under a warranty replacement. I'm sure not as many as the Droid X's being sent back from complete noobies coming here and bricking their phones, but I digress.
Warranty replacements due to tampering are nothing new; it's been going on for YEARS, even prior to Smart Phones. In fact, I remember people warranty replacing their RAZRs trying to get rid of the Verizon UI.
Whatever happens, happens. Just go with it.
Honestly if everything is true and we will be no longer be able to make our droid Phones OUR droid phones I'm just going to get a plan with a cheap carrier and use this as a multimedia device and leo it mine.

You are very correct. You can do whatever you want with your device and Verizon cannot do anything to your device about it. HOWEVER, they can do whatever they want with THEIR service. As stated in the terms of service that EVERYONE here agreed to, in section 2 part d of reasons they can terminate or suspend your service, if you " modify your device from its manufacturer's specifications" they have the right to stop providing you service.
So yes you can modify your device to hell and back but they DO NOT have to give you service for it. So all of you can stop saying Verizon had to tell you something or can't do this. THEY ALREADY TOLD US.
Hi all!
I experienced a couple of issues with my tablet, but nothing crazy as far as now. I was still considering an exchange instead of a refund.
I have a faulty jack port, bad speakers balanced (corrected after root), and like every body else, bad battery monitoring with the dock losing charge while doing nothing. Some light bleeding, but minor and I didn't really cared. Oh and also, bad LED lights behaviour on the dock, which may be corrected with a dock firmware update, or not.
Anyway, the even worst surprised today is that my power adapter is dead. This is too much for me. I am really disappointed by Asus quality. Honestly, I can deal with some software issues, I can admit that such a complicated design like a tablet may lead to a faulty jack port (and even that...) but, really, a wrong design in the power adapter TOO ? How such a common and basic thing can go wrong ? And it is not like I have done something crazy with it, just plug it on the main to charge the dock/tablet and that's it. After 2 weeks, dead.
Asus, maybe you should reconsider some bits of you engineering process and especially the quality checks parts.
So my decision is taken, I will send it back and that's it. No more TF101 for me. I may wait for the next generation (October ?) hoping that the first generation was a test but maybe not. I will see. I liked the tablet.
We are not talking about a $1 toy and I clearly expected another quality paramount.
This is sad, when it works properly the tablet is good for the use I am looking at and the keyboard with extended battery is simply smart and useful. When you can charge it...
Get ready for the crazy fanboys to troll your thread with messages like "Mine is fine so you must be imagining it" or "You're in the minority" and then finish it up by calling you a troll.
You listed some issues that I forgot about. You're lucky you're taking the easy way out. TD doesn't allow refunds so I was forced to send it in to Asus on my dime. Counting all of the issues this device is plagued with will run you >$100.00 in postage alone to send this POS back.
Now I hear the B6O revision is better and it makes one feel like ****. B6O should have been what the device should have started with. They ripped everyone off.

I think that I was part of the fanboys when I firstly received my tablet/dock. But each day was a new bad surprise.
On the good side, amazon does a very great job. They pay back everything : product+shipping costs+cost to ship back and insure it. We cannot expect better that having a product we don't want to send back.
fanboys are an unfortunate part of forum life. if you think they're bad here head over to the archos forums. you cant say one bad thinb wighout someone telling you it's your fault and that your expectations are too high. i rma'd my archos 4 time befor giving up and getting transformer. i think qc is a problem across the tablet spectrum right now. for the price i do think the tf is the best deal going.
that said ignore the fanfoys and do what in righg for you. the acer is not as nice and a little heavier, but has better build quality for the price.
How do you tell what revision you have? Is it printed on the exterior of the tablet? Ie, can I check something like that while I'm in the store easily?

Funny, I seriously considered the iconia before getting the TF, just knew that I could not live with the screen as I often work with my tablet in direct sunlight and there is quite a difference between the iconia and say the TF or galaxy tab 10.1.

Yep ... sums up my sentiments too.
Not a fanboy. I have a couple of small issues with my unit but, to be honest, i have similar issues with laptops, tvs, cameras, phones also. Problem is with sites like this you often start to notice things that the average Joe wouldnt even spot.
What Im getting fed up with is posts telling us that people are returning their units ...
Check out the Apple forums, or the Xoom forums, or the Samsung forums. EVERY item has faults. Maybe technology is moving too fast for production quality to keep up ? who knows ???
Ive found XDA great over the years, and the forums are very helpful. The problem these days is that the forums are getting clogged with people who seem to think everyone is interested to know that they are returning their unit ?? why do we need to know ??? utterly pointless and just a product of the Facebook era probably ....
Seriously ... if you have a question... use XDA. If you have an issue ... use XDA. If you just want to tell us whats going on in your life PLEASE use facebook.
There are lots of people who want help and want support - or people who genuinely have hints and tips. Problem is you cant see their posts as they get lost amongst all the other drivvle people post.
Hopefully you will find a unit that suits you but I assure you that every unit is prone to problems. Show me a forum for any item of any make or model where nobody has found a fault or ptoblem and ill eat my hat.
Also, let's cut this hypocritical nonsense out. If someone posted a thread about how much they loved the TF none of you would be raging over it. But when someone posts a thread about giving up on the TF you're all raging over it and how inappropriate it is.
The statement that these kinds of non-technical posts don't belong on here is laughable when you consider the double standard. If there are going to be threads for people who are throwing themselves all over the TF, there are going to be threads for people to explain their displeasure. Anything else is one sided and biased.
Of course you'd go for that if you were so insecure you couldn't handle someone reading something negative about the TF.

The number of people who have left is far greater than the number of people who have made threads. I've been watching this forum for a while and I can tell you right now that the number of "I'm leaving" threads that have sprouted are far too little to warrant your kind of response.
You act as if there are twenty per day, all clogging up the main page. This is certainly not the case. This is not a major epidemic.
To think two different people can't make a thread on their experience and why they're leaving is absurd. This isn't four threads discussing the same tip on how to reset the the device. Each story is unique and therefore a separate point of discussion.

The number of people who have left is far greater than the number of people who have made threads. I've been watching this forum for a while and I can tell you right now that the number of "I'm leaving" threads that have sprouted are far too little to warrant your kind of response.

more than happy for everyone to post their 'unique' experiences ... in one single thread !!!
Then all those who want to share know exactly where they can find them !!
Everyone else can see 'the wood for the trees' .....
The easiest way is to look for the black sealing tape on both sides of the box. The B60K,newer version, will have black instead of green tape.
The problem that I have is that there are bizzilion threads on here with people *****ing that there Trasformer is a piece of crap. Everytime someone wants to complain they start a new thread which is getting a little out of control.
I have complaits about the Transformer but I did my research first. I knew there were problems with it just like any new product.

Apparently this is lost on the fanboys.

When I first came to this forum, I was admittedly lost and confused.
I had my Samsung Vibrant for a very short time, and it was giving me non-stop problems; It was nothing; but a headache. I bought the phone believing some of the hyperbole that surrounded it. My previous Samsung (Dumbphone) had worked beautifully for a year until it's touchscreen died. Considering the fact that it featured a "resistive" touchscreen, and factoring in normal wear from daily use. I just couldn't be mad about it. It served it's purpose. This was my reason for purchasing the Samsung Vibrant. I was ready to buy a much better device with a better touchscreen; I had done my homework on Android, and was waiting for the right time to purchase an Android device.
I didn't want the Behold 2; I checked it out, and after handling a live model at the store, it felt cheap and I was a little surprised by that; because the Behold 1 was literally made with REAL Metal etc.
I visited this site, and realized that I could ACTUALLY replace the inoperable ROM
that was leaving my Samsung Vibrant non-functional
I posted my issues looking for answers and was instead attacked vigilantly by developers and other members here
This was the exact opposite of what I was expecting.
I've noticed that Developers here frequently bully other users here, and they have friends who use rogue tactics which cause the developers to close ANY thread which openly criticizes Samsung or T-Mobile in a negative way.
Recently we found out that the creator of the Cyanogen mod was just hired by Samsung!
Based on the response even to the most subtle of my issues
I have had nothing but suspicion since the beginning.
I have been wondering who your company holds in the best interest
Is it the people?
Yourselves?
Or the corporations you seek jobs (and/or) sponsorships from or look to gain sponsorship from?
All I can say is that when your site claims it is for the developers you leave some important things out of the equation.
This site is frequented by regular people who do not have the money or time to go and buy ten different phones to play with.
Some of us don;t have the time to sit there for hours and work on code
There are REGULAR people who are members of this site
they have issues like me, and we do not act like we know everything
we are not selfish and narcissistic.
You have never considered as as a factor
were sick of the bullying and favoritism
and I was the first to fight back
I am asking
What's wrong with XDA?
It's not you, It's me.
The best advice to any new user that I can give is to sit, watch, and read. If you come in your first day and post a question that gets asked on a weekly basis you will be flamed. If you have a reasonable level of tech savy, and watch and read the forums for two weeks or so 90% of your questions will be answered and almost all of those that aren't can be found easily by searching (the xda search function sucks imo but a Google search returns xda pages easily).

Lol Your post really touched me because that's how life and the real world is. Not so much on XDA. If you at least read the first full post and the last page of the thread you will know about any bugs/fixes and won't be flamed for asking the same question. I know it's kind of intimidating when people who build the ROMS tell you your wrong about something and openly express displeasure about having to answer the same question over and over. But you also have to keep in mind that this is an open community and anywhere you go in life or the internet there will be assholes and trolls but 99 percent of the members of this forum are cool people who can relate to not being able to afford 3 phones. Lighten up bud. If you have at least the slightest knowledge about technology and problem solving. You should be just fine. BTW most trolls have 0-25 posts and 0-3 thanks and are juniour members. Just something I thought I'd share.

oh, and to answer your question, it sounds like you are the problem with xda. i've never had a problem. i've never blamed samsung or tmob for me purchasing the vibrant (and i love my vibrant), i don't demand or expect anything from the devs, i just appreciate what they do for us and try and help others when i can.
It's about respect bro.
I've only been flashing for a couple months but i was lurking for a month before I posted.
I read, learned, and then asked. I got flamed sure, but now I try to help other users with their repeat questions so the devs don't have to.
Anyway... your post is probably going to fall on deaf ears.
You do not complain ON the site you're complaining ABOUT.
You're wasting your time and venting to the community you're venting about.
Pretty much making people mad at you is all you did
Sorry man.
Vibrant+MIUI
I've been here a while. I just lurk so I don't have to deal with assholes. I also read and use the search to avoid asking questions. 98% of the time my questions have already been asked and I find the answer myself.
Hey MicBeast, how did that class action law suit go for you? Make any more songs about it?
Its funny how you sound self righteous here, when I remember a much different person starting a lot of drama when I first saw your name popping up around here, a simple search and anyone can read that whole soap opera.
But hey, this is just one man's opinion.

I don't see the problem.

Not one soul forced you to be here.
MicBeast, I just skimmed your 125 posts.
I will not say much, but maybe you should really think about what's wrong with xda... Keeping in mind that xda is a place for developing predominantly.
I've never had this kind of experience personally, and I actively discourage it in my thread. My thread its full of helpful nice posts and great individuals. I don't do this for any reason but the love of doing so, and never plan on doing it any other way. Its rude, insulting, and wrong to generalize anyone, you have only interacted with a fraction of the people on here. Once you have spoken with EVERY person, then you can make a statement, for now, please refrain from these gross generalizations.....

I thought you have an Iphone now? So why are you lurking on these forums still?
You have nothing better to do than to waste your time harassing people you don't know on the internet?
If I remember correctly, I've seen YOU bullying quite a few different members. Causing much more drama than any developer I've ever seen.
XDA is for developers to share and "develop" their work, share ideas, etc... They don't necessarily have to be every newbie's personal tech support agent. They can help who they want on their own free will... And if they don't feel like being nice, or get fed up with the same questions asked over and over again, then by all means let them. No one is paying them, and they certainly aren't bound by any contracts.
This isn't a service, there's no 1800 number to call and complain to. It's a public forum, so deal with it. Take some time and appreciate the information that this forum is bulging at the seams with, for free, for anyone to learn.
I just looked at ur post an yea u are what is wrong with xda u go around an complain about how things aren't working troubleshoot it ur self an what about that iPhone which is "better" than android go to whatever fourm they have an just go away :-/

Ok..here we go:
The name of the site should be a clear shot of what this site is all about, XDADEVELOPERS.COM.
Secondly...what's "wrong" with this site is the same as any other site...some members, either old or new, that think that they opinion is more valuable than other and for that they tend to bully themselves around
Third...why even start a thread about this topic when you clearly know the reaction it's going to cause...in my book that is considered a type of trolling and even though I'm up for trolling the OT fora every now and then, do not agree with threads that will stir up the pot (if you know what I'm mean )
Hence, thread closed.

Hi! I'm about to buy a tablet next week. It's partly for my personal use, but also for educational use for my daughter (18 months now) and general use for my wife.
I've narrowed my choices down to this one and iPad 3.. I already own a Galaxy S2 and a Nexus S, and enjoy Android a lot, but what my concern is, and my reason for considering the iPad 3 is that I'm not sure how good the app market is for tablets.. I've never had a chance to play with one except from in the store, and they dont have it enabled for accessing the Play Store..
Hardware-wise, although the iPad has a better screen, I find the Note to be more impressive.. And the 4:3 format on the iPad is not very appealing to me.. The extra resolution on the iPad might make it great for e-books, but watching a movie or playing with apps might not make much of a difference between the two.. the movies will be limited to 720p anyway as it's more than good enough on a 10 inch screen.. I'm not big on e-books so I will probably never read a book on it.
Software-wise, I hate iTunes so obviously the Note has the advantage here as it doesnt require any software on the computer.. I'm not gonna enter into an iOS vs Android discussion here, so lets just conclude that both iOS and Android are good OS's that are capable of doing what I require from them.
And then finally we come to the point where I'm stuck and makes it hard to choose: APPS..
How good is the app-market on android for tablets? which has the best app market for tablets? The iPad or the Note?
Is there any good educational apps for kids available on Play Store? Does any of these make use of the S Pen?
Does the S Pen have any good apps available in the Play Store, on top of the ones that come preloaded on the Note?
Hope to get some objective replies here.. I'm asking here and not on a Apple-forum as the iSheeps would automatically just say iPad, even if the Note could get you a cup of coffee and read you next weeks lottery numbers......

The tablet apps on Android are sufficient enough. There's just about an android equivalent or better for most IOS apps. There are tons of educational apps for Android. Best thing is most of them are free. Or at least have free versions for you to try out. There are some educational apps that make use of S pen. But I would let your child(18 months) grasp using finger for tablet use before S pen. I have a 2yrs.old. she just wants to grab the pen and smash it into the screen...lol. they are to young, IMO, to realize how to be gentle with pen and tablet use. These tablets can be great educational tools though.
There are alot more apps than what comes pre-installed that make use of the S Pen. There's a preloaded app called S suggest I believe, that you can see alot of those apps in one place. S PEN APPS THAT IS.
Since you already accustomed to Android, go for t eNlte 10.1. Its an excellent tablet experience out the box. Plus it does way more than we're discussing. Ex, universal remote(IR blaster built in), watching movies, drawing, photo editing, writing notes, stories, brainstorming, gaming, productive things, etc.. I briefly thought about getting an ipad3 at first, then I remembered how locked down it was and how boring using it was. I grew tired of the OS. All I did was jailbreak and mod it like crazy to be as close to android experience as I could get.
I recommend the Note 10.1 over ipad3 anyday.

Samsung controls the pricing through authorized resellers. And the cost to authorized resellers is pretty high compared to other manufacturers so non-authorized resellers are kind of hamstrung by what it costs them to by product from those who are authorized. Typically you'll see value- adds like bonus accessories and in-store credit. Fry's is/was running "$100 in-store credit" with purchase. Hi, I've been reading note 10.1 forums over a month even though I'm not lucky enough to own one yet. I'm not gonna question you're knowledge and awareness of these forums contents since I can see that you (mitchellvii) are a lot more active in here than I am, but yet I'd like you to point a thread that is about what applications is there available on google play store that are fun and educational apps for children less than 2 years old. I've not found one. Yet there might be one of course but you said that this particular question has been asked extensively, which is a synonym to a phrase such as "many times" and "over and over again".
I agree that these forums share so much information that half of these questions asked here could've been avoided by reading a few pages, but I think that when you search these threads in your time of boredom or your interest - which is exactly what I do - you should read what it's about instead of only reading it's title which seems similar to those 10 other threads where you just adviced people about not to ask those same questions "extensively". And maybe, just maybe then give your "constructive" answer.
I think that this guy here asked a very good question concerning what use note 10.1 could have to children, even though I'm only 19 years old and don't have any little boys or girls.
Please don't hate me because of this post, I just expressed my opinion on this matter and I might be wrong. I just think that people asking polite and appropriate questions should be treated the same way if the exact questions hasn't been answered yet, shouldn't they?
I think my point here is quite good and it emphasizes good team spirit. But maybe it's just me. Is it? (((see I'm sad and hopeless and yet I have some sort or HOPE that I'm not alone when I think that internet forums shouldn't be a place where people say inappropriate and rude things just because they don't need to say it face to face cos it's easier to say those in here.)))

Yes that's something to look for but can it be found here in xda galaxy note 10.1 forums? What I was wondering was if this questions has asked in here before. I don't know if you got this link from xda note 10.1 forums since I obviously didn't read them all before posting my opinion. But if a person comes on note 10.1 forum and asks a question that's not been asked and answered here, we should give him the answer if we have one and we should NOT expect him to google it if the questions is as ungooglable as this one is. Xda is about helping, not about "you can't ask that and if you ask you won't get an answer because someone asked something like that a month ago so you should already have an answer because someone gave it to someone on some thread some time ago". Right? We can't escape the fact that there will be "help me! Should i get ipad or note i don't know and i'm dying"- threads every god damn day but this one is not a thread like that. This one has a particular point focusing on children and I think it's a great perpective. And I do feel sorry now for the creator of this thread cos I just filled the first page with my thoughts sorry about that but I just thought it needed to be said somewhere.

Typically forums like XDA are very general. What you're asking about is very specific. Also, at least in my time here, there hasn't been a lot of focus on mobile devices being used by children. So if you're looking for information I don't think you'll find anything specifc enough to meet your needs. If you're asking if there's a need I'd say yes, but it would be of interest to a small subset of the community. Hope that helps.

I know where Mitch was coming from. Just today there were three threads started besides your all asking "should I buy a Note?" That in addition to others that were already open. His answer assumed yours was a question already asked but yours was specifc to children. Nobody should be offended. Hopefully you'll get the Note and someday have children you can hand it down to.

First of all you need to chill out. As Barry said we get 2 or 3 these "Why should I buy this tablet?" threads each day.
The OP didn't mention his interest in educational apps until about the 8th paragraph down. 90% of his question has been asked and answered hundreds of times. Thus it is pretty clear to me the OP did not spend 10 seconds searching for an answer prior to asking, otherwise he would have just asked about educational apps without the rest.
Read then ask.

Well, I think I made a better thread by describing my situation, rather than simply starting a thread with: "Are there any educational apps for this thing?"
You say: read, then ask
I say: Read the whole initial post before answering, not just the first line.
And for the record, I have been searching and reading a lot before posting here, but didn't really find any clear and good information regarding my question..
Anyway, none the less, I got some good answers here and the link that was posted was very helpful.. It really makes it easier to decide, and I'm 90% sure that I will go for the Note.. Thanks!

So would you suggest buying at a certain location in case the price drops? Is Amazon a good choice for purchasing this? I get 5% cash back if I buy with my Discover card starting Monday (online purchases). I hear Best Buy is good too for their return policy. I've always loved Amazon for no-hassle returns though. Any advice?

I think the lowest price last year for the OG G-Tab 10.1 over Black Friday was $349 vs. $499 retail. I wouldn't expect any better on the Note. But hey, these are crazy times so who knows what retailers will do to bring people in this year. Price protection's usually 30 days so you'd have to wait until the end of October to have the reseller match any holiday discounts. If you know anyone that's a Best Buy Silver Rewards member I think they get 60 days price protection.

That's true but when someone would lighten up and think about what I said then there would be even more helpful posts
