How to get 850 band on JPG/JQ1 modems - Galaxy S I9000 General

I posted this in Doc's kitchen thread already but its easy to have information get lost in there so here it is again.
I found a way to get 850 band on jpg/jq1 (actually got this method from captivate forums) I tested it on i9000m and it works fine. I am currently using jq1 and its working fine using 850 band.
Files needed: JL2 modem, BVJJPD modem, JPG modem, JQ1 modem
You can find these files in perka's awsome file stash
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984588
Method: Flash JL2 if you don't already have it. Manually set it to WDCMA 850 via the band selection menu *#2263# by going into [2] WCDMA BAND and selecting 850 this will force the phone to use 850 band only. Verify its operating in 850 via GSM status *#0011#. Then flash BVJJPD modem and verify its still in 850 then flash JPG modem and verify its in 850 (if this is the modem you want to end up with skip to part 2 if you want JQ1 read on). Then flash JQ1 verify you are still in 850.
Part 2: Go into band selection *#2263 and choose [1] AUTOMATIC and then again in band selection choose [4] COMBI BANDS and tick WCDMA 850 to add it. Now all bands should be selected. Exit out of Band selection and enjoy the 850 band on these modems.
It seems to switch between bands pretty seamless.
*Note: Some people have asked if the BVJJPD modem step is necessary. Others and my self have tried skipping the BVJJPD step and it will not work so don't skip any steps the BVJJPD step is needed to get this to work.
Credits to shoman94 for the info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12156313&postcount=438

I tried skipping bvjjpd and can confirm that it is needed to get WCDMA 850.
fwiw, I'm on Bell in montreal and jpg is working out better than jq1 for me since jq1 doesn't seem to switch well from 850 to 1900 when you lose signal in between. For example:
-At work I'm on 850 and at home I'm on 1900.
-When I take the subway home, I have no signal.
-When I exit the subway in an area covered by 850, everything is fine.
-When I exit the subway in an area covered by 1900, it stays at no signal until I turn the screen on (i can see the status icon go from no signal to full)

Thanks for the confirmation as I had just tried it my self after posting. BVJJPD is indeed needed

No this should work with any Galaxy S that supports the 850 band

This worked great to get 850 on both jpg and jq1 and also when I flashed jvk I kept my 850. Not sure if it's cause of that or it supports it but working great so far.

I tried this method with the jvk modem and it mostly worked. I had a couple of issues. 1. It was switching to 1900 quite often, when jl2 would stay on 850. 2 GPS wasn't locking. I tried it only once, but waited 3-4 minutes with no lock, then while sitting in my car booted to cwm and flashed jl2 and it locked in 5 seconds. I'll stick with jl2 until a find a modem that works better.
Edit : I also tried jq1 with similar experiences.

Just because jl2 may camp more on 850 doesn't make it a better modem.

Can't find jpd modem, got the file stash app and it's not there. The original post says that or jpg so I'll try that and see if it works. But I also can't find a cwm zip of jve either. Sucks, I didn't care about not having 850hz band until I drove through the mountains and had no signal. :/

Bionix 1.3.1 keeps using edge instead of 3g or h.

For some reason over the last couple of days my phone has been stickjng on edge service, and once in a while hopping back on 3g/h. I think i read in a few places bionix 1.2 had this problem, but this is the first time im experiencing a problem, and ive had the rom since the first day it was out....
Any advice? Thanks!

If you are using the KB1 modem try flashing the KA6 or KA7Modem, this might resolve the problem. There is a thread with all the modems in the Vibrant forum.
here is the thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868774
and like oka1 said try KA6 or 7.
You wanna know what's weird? This morning I rebooted and mine will only connect if I manually set Network Mode to "GSM only". If I try to use GSM/WCDMA (auto mode) I don't even connect to the network. It's very strange. Running the KA7 modem. Hrmmmm
Since I've installed 1.3.1 I have never seen 3G. I get the H and E but never any 3G.

Nexus S will not connect to HSDPA

I'm on stock rom on Vodafone UK and my Nexus S will not connect to HSDPA, only connects via UMTS. Tried mmessing with APN settings but no luck. Any ideas?
I have i9023 S-LCD version with KD1 radio.
EDIT: Fixed; flashed KB3 radio.
How can you tell if your connection is UMTS and not HSPA?

When I go to Settings>About phone>Status and under mobile network type it says UMTS. In my bedroom I noticed it, where all my other previous phones got a strong HSDPA connection this one only picks up UMTS.
I had the same problem with KD1 radio. Fixed it when I switch to KB3
Try doing some data traffic. There are combinations of networks and phones that idle at UMTS and switch to HSPA as soon as there is data traffic.
Cosmote Greece is one example.

KD1 is newer, but that doesn't mean that KB3 won't work better for you. Just try flashing it. If it doesn't help you with HSPA connection, you can easily revert to KD1. I'm using KD1 right now with 3 Austria, but I get slightly better HSPA connection at work using KB3.

[Q] CM10 - Problems after move to India with 3G/UMTS CellOne

Dear all,
I was happily using Quarx CM10 build 20121118 with 3G/UMTS in Australia.
Moved to Indian now for a year to do charity work and got a local CallOne SIM.
2G/GSM works fine and 2G data is also fine.
When I use UMTS the data always drops and voice calls end after 20-30 seconds.
Could someone please let me know if this is a baseband issue or just the usual Indian 3G/UMTS implementation.
By the way, I tried this outdoors with full bars.
Thanks in advance,
Matthias
It's a baseband issue. Use the baseband switcher and select the Indian baseband with 331 in the end of the name

Oops, after changing the settings as above I now have 3G voice connections without problems, but can't connect to 2G any more.
When I select "GSM only" in network preferences or "Use only 2G networks" I can't get any connection.
Any ideas??
p.s.: In "About phone" it shows Baseband version: EPU93_U_00.60.03
Try a lower baseband
Version's absolutely fine in about phone
You can try to set 2G from the secret dialer menu(dial *#*#4636#*#*)
BTW, why do you need 2G?

Here in India it's mostly 2G when you go out of the city.

Lower baseband means a numerically lower one(it's 2.59 something in the beginning instead of 3.4.3)
And how did the secret menu approach pan out? Try setting it to gsm only.

When I set it to GSM only I have the same issue as when I set it to GSM only in the phone settings, it get's no connection.
I googled a bit more today and it seems there are quite some more people experiencing the same issue with the Asia baseband.
I've set it now to Central Europe and it seems to be working.
Do you know how I extract the baseband from a stock android phone? Some of the local guys have a local bought android and I want to extract the data so it can go into the next build.
Thanks,
Matthias
It's in system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default
Use a root file explorer app to copy and paste, however I'm not very optimistic about its chances
So, is central Europe baseband working completely?

AFAIK it is working. Voice calls now work without problems in 3g only and 2g only modes. Data modes are still very unreliable, I was hoping to get some feedback from Indian users of the forum, but besides you no one commented. :'(
For me, 3.4.3 331 data works in 3g and 2g. Voice is fine with both

[Q] Cannot get T-Mobile LTE enabled at all

info about my phone:
baseband: .33 right now
ROM: this one at the moment.
also tried this one, this one, and this one
also, its the new white nexus
what I've done so far:
I've tried this on the .33 baseband.
I then found these two zips (1 and 2) to help automate the process a bit, and use those to try baseband .24 and .27 with no change.
then I tried the instructions on this site
and finally, I am now on this rom I mentioned above, which is supposed to have everything done already...
I Know for a fact my area has LTE, as my roommate gets 4G on his S3 every day.
does anyone see anything I might be doing wrong?
Is your roommate using LTE with T-Mobile?
Nexus 4 only supports LTE band 4.

did you update the APN to fast.t-mobile.com? I can't tell in specific so ill just give you a quick run down.
On multiple devices i've done:

4) flash franco kernel (not necessary but i prefer it) and clear caches.

Well....band 3 (1800) is good for penetration so if where you are, signal is weak, there is a high chance you're on band 3 but that does not mean it's fast cos signal strength does not equal to performance. band 7 (2600) signal could be weak but there are lesser users so performance could be better.
The attached pictures shows the performance between the two bands. on band 3, i get 3 bars of signal while on band 7, i get only 1 bar but the download speed is almost double.
Just my little understanding on LTE. hope that helps and if i'm wrong.....kindly correct me.

You cannot just keep at a single band all the time. Reason being is not everywhere has good signal for band 3 and band 7 so depending on the area you are at and if you are working and require fast connection, if you are connected to 4G and assuming the speed is slow, you can then change band to see if it helps. In my case, when i'm at home, i'll just switch to band 7 cos it's way faster and this way i make sure it does not switch to band 3 which is slower.
It's extra work to be switching bands but again, it's only if you need the speed and since we know how to, just make full use of the 4G connection
