Will NoDo lock again the device ?
Thanks for info.
i am not sure but i tried updating it and it failed at step 8 out of 10 due to incorrect registry errors - similar to the errors on the samsung devices for WP7 updates prior to NoDo
moderator please move this thread to the general section please as the OP has put it in the wrong section
hello for me just stop on step create restore point
no other probleme
The NoDo update for "official" WP7 devices actually re-locks the OS.
There seems to be no successor of Chevron so far.
It will take time to port the "NoDo" update of WP7 for Leo anyway, no rush here.
I hope that devs will give us the NoDo with unlocked phone.
No-Do unlocked would be great. But if it doesn't happen I'll stick with the current version of WP7. Other than a few things missing, it's a great OS. Eventually I'll break down & get a native WP7 device, but until then I love showing people that mine runs smoother & quicker than their WP7 phones!

Hi all,
I have just aquired my first Android (aka HTC Desire) after becoming all to familiar with Windows mobile!
My phone is from vodaphone with Android 2.1 and bootloader .80 version. I am unsure if it is branded but i suspect that it is as there is as vodaphone scene amongst the installed htc scenes although there dosn't appear to be anything else 'vodaphone' on the handset.
I have trailed through many forums (mostly this one) but haven't been able to provide wholly satisfactory answers to my questions and was hoping some kind sole would take the time to assist me for which i would be eternally greatful!:
Here goes:
My object is to flash my device with Froyo with the sense ui embedded which i have allready seen.
1. Is my phone actually branded and, if so, do i have to address this before i can continue. If the answer is yes, could somebody point me in the right direction?
2. Do i need to root my device to install Froyo and, if so, again could somebody please point me in the right direction(bootloader .80)
3. Assuming success, can somebody point me to where and how i can locate and install the best version of Froyo with embedded htc sense for my device.
If this is impossible with my device, i would appreciate someone in the know to break the sad news to me and i will wait (with my allready full Desire) for Vodaphone to send me my Froyo update! (perhaps for Christmas if that's not too optimistic.
1) is it branded? if its issued by vodaphone, chances are it is.
To root branded devices, you'll need a goldcard, follow this link (its specific for htc desire) :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6710085&postcount=3
2) to install froyo BEFORE the official release , yes you'll need to root it.
It's quite an easy process, took me under a minute using a one-click program.
Rooting guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709146
3) best version of froyo with sense ... hmm
i'm using DeVillianRom but that's just my opinion of course
all roms can be found here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=628
hope this helps, make sure you check the HTC desire section regularly
Thanks jdebunt for your prompt reply.
I will be trying this out tomorrow morning and i am very grateful for your time and help.
After a year of 'messing' with windows mobile i was actually able to assist people with various problems! I have had an Android for one week now and have found this forum invaluable for understanding this excellent (almost) device.
I say almost as, after researching the Android platform, i failed to notice the lack of embedded apps2sd (until Froyo) which i think is a critical ommission.
Sorry to waffle on and thanks again and i will report back as to how it goes.
(One week old.....bricked???)
no problem, glad i could help
i do indeed rejoice at the sight of installing apps on SD because of the 2.2 roms, tho sometimes the apps load very slow...but that'll be sorted soon probably
if there's anything else, don't hesitate to drop a PM
is there any csutom rom for the samsung focus **** the ones for htc devices???
not as of now, but the mango RTM works fine with it, seems more useful to me than a custom rom that is based on a beta build of mango.
also, chevron unlock is retained if you do it right.

the thread in the general WP7 forum is what i used to update to mango and retain my unlock, it it's fairly clear and should work so long as you follow all the steps carefully
How do u know what versiĆ³n of the focus do i have?
Please take a look to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217982
It's a chance to get custom ROM's for our Focuses, so don't miss!
Any update on custom ROM for Focus activity?
Is it much more difficult to do custom ROM for Samsung devices due to different drivers? I believe the Focus is the best selling WP7 device, so I would think there are lots of people tinkering with it.
...maybe because the Focus is primarily US, and most custom ROM folks are outside the US???
Just thinking outloud

I guess the resounding silence on this forum answers my question
One of the reasons I was asking...looking to buy either the upcoming Focus S, or the HTC Titan. So I wan't custom ROMs, go with Titan....just afraid it is too freakin big!
Hi
Could you please tell me whether the HTC firmware update for Mango will be available on Zune for the HTC HD2? I currently have the terrific NoDo version by XBmod-Yuki installed and decided to stop at NoDo and wait for the official Zune release. I then read that Mango will not be fully functional unless you have the HTC firmware update, but as the HTC HD2 should't be running Mango, i'm confused. The reason I ask is because I don't know if the HTC firmware is brand or phone specific? Any enlightenment is much appreciated.
You'd get more attention posting this in the Windows Phone 7 Q&A Sub-forum
Yes, HTC updates are device-specific. You wont be able to use a Mango OTA on your phone since it was not designed for the HD2. Best to wait for the devs to get their hands on it & adapt it for this phone.

HTC HD2 should not be running Nodo either, yet there you are... Of course there will never be an official Mango release for HD2, firmware upgrade means you need to buy another phone!
The only way for you to get Mango on your phone is to go to the WP7 development forum for HD2 and get your HD2 loaded with the latest Mango from there. Stick with the same dev team *hint hint

Now that was truly halarious, nearly fell off my bed laughing. I hope the OP is paying attention.
Hi guys, I followed this guide yesterday.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246040
(great guide)
Now have Windows phone 7 running. I did not want to install the beta version of mango on my phone though and stoped once running nodo. I am a bit noobish and have a few questions. Mango has been officially reliesed if i'm not mistaken. Will there be an update in the zune software if i wait patiently? If not, how do i go about updating to the real mango?
Hi!
Yuki / XBmod's release is updatable The updates should arrive in Zune one by one but you could also try the Cab thread in the Development section - There you can download all the cabs that are required for your phone to update to 7740 (latest stable build). As ab alternative you could try one of the other builds that are in here - They are already updated when you install them! Only backside is that they are not updatable... Yet! Several developers are working on updatable versions of their rom.
Any more questions? Feel free to ask!

Hey mate, thanks for the reply. I've been looking into update methods and it's really hard because the internet talks about different methods, other pages mention the beta, but just call it mango, so that makes it hard. I tried the force update method in the zune store but failed after about an hour of trying. Could you please link me to the cab page you mentioned, and can i use these cabs to upgrade from 7392, because all the pages i looked at said you had to go from the previos version. If i do need to go back to the previous version, can i just use the revirt method oin the zune store or am i going to have to flash everything all over again? Thankyou.

I don't think you have to revert to older versions but I cannot guarantee that it will work! If it fails then yes you'll have to install from the beginning again

Hi, XDA Members.
Sorry ahead of time for the wall of text.
I'm a fellow HTC 7 Trophy (Spark_W) user who was stuck in a 2 year plan. When I bought my phone new through Verizion, it shipped with the NoDo update and it took Zune a quite a bit of time to download the updates via a different sprint cell with unlimited. This was before I found about custom roms. I then proceeded to follow TheXev's instructions for downgrading (which required me to download another large file) and installing dft's rspl and then hspl (not as big).
I had been using the 8835 (assumed to be the 7.8 beta rom) by TheXev and I had looked around for a 8858 rom in the past. Then, Nokser and another individual, HD2Owner, had created roms for us. While Norkser hadn't owned a trophy himself as noted in his first post, I wish I had knew about manual updates through Zune.
Most of us xda members had began to browse other sites to find a rom or just stuck with their old rom because of its stability. I had just stuck with it expecting TheXev to come back with a stable rom. I wanted to test Nokser's rom to see if it worked. And it was quite exceptional at the time I had installed it via the tools that had came with it.
I had wanted to add more custom things into my own rom, such as a custom startup image like in a few other roms, but I had never saw anything specific for the Trophy, as TheXev has stated this is a picky device. I had began to follow the guide how to "cooker" a rom, and kinda fell short of making a rom as the guide recommended starting with someone else's roms. It was much more difficult than I had imagined, because people partially encrypt/scramble their roms. When I went to make it after finding out there are few unencrypted roms, I needed to find individual files that need updated from different phones, and I outright dropped it.
Anyways, it was nice knowing that there was a tool that simplified updates for those users that are still on older roms. I needed to go to the Official WP7 Updates List up to WP 7.8 + ALL LANGUAGES complete + OEM updates and download all the packages that include the language packs one might need and then the updates. I already was on 8858 and needed to go from 7.10.8858.136 to 7.10.8860.142 and 7.10.8860.142 - 7.10.8862.144 (these are difference files so they are only a few kilobytes).
From the CAB list guide:
You need to go through the list of CAB's very carefully. Select all the packages you need and download them:
All the core OS updates from the version you have to the version you want to have.
All the language-updates from the version you have to the version you want to have.
All the new language-updates you want to add from the first version available to the version you want to have.
All the OEM updates for the Brand/Model of your device.

You need to download EasyWP7Updater and extract the program anywhere. Then make sure Zune is closed before starting. It will remind you to do so. Then press "Install already downloaded cabs". Then "Add Cabs" Then, Send cabs. Just to make sure to press the button to backup. Its a good idea do it, because one of the updates might not be installed incorrectly. I also ran WPBackup. It requires WMDC installed along with Zune running in the background. I used WPBackup supplementary to backup my apps, for backing everything up and deploying it anytime if needed and it can be repeated more often than then the update process.
Thanks for the thorough post.
I updated the original post. Hopefully a moderator can come around and sticky this.
