When I start the phone it shows a phone with an ! In a triangle and a computer. How can I fix this?
I think you are in download mode, just pull out the battery and put it back in.
I hate "Top Flight Security Mods"
Use Odin and flash a stock tar rom

So I try to flash my Samsung Vibrant today - and apparently whenever I turn it on - I just get a screen with a phone, a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in the middle, and a cpu.
It just doesnt go pass this screen - and will not go in to recovery mode either or download mode.
Did I just brick my phone?
Please help! Thanks!!!
Flash it with what??

I tried to flash it back to the original firmware through Oden. The instructions were described from another thread.
I got it to get back onto download mode. The phone is saved!
Any hints for what we need to avoid doing? Aka, whatever you did initially.

So if I have a phone with a dotted line and a computer did I brick my phone?
ODIN crapped out while installed a new kernal and I have a phone with a dotted line and a computer stuck on my screen. Am I bricked?

no it's not bricked, you need to get to download mode then you can flash again with Odin.
I can't get anything else on the screen. with the usb plugged in or anything... it turns off and then back to the phone .../!\.... computer. Any tips?
Regards,
B
Got it in download mode but still just sits at zImage once I get ODIN started. Does this take like 45+ minutes to put a kernal on? I'm selecting the stock vibrant kernal in the CSC target. Odin doesn't so anything after firmware update starts.
I'm kind of scratching my head on this one....
Regards,
B
I tried to just put the stock rom on it and it is just sitting at cache.rfs with no progress. Not good...
Regards,
B
OMG I finally got it. I had to leave ODIN open after it stuck at file analysis. I then took out the battery of the phone and put it back into download mode. I click start in ODIN and thankfully... she's flashing back to stock 2.1. I had tried a million different ways... ODIN is not exceptionally stable. No bueno. I think I'm going to keep the stock Kernal cause this was scary... lol.

I have had this issue since the first use of Odin. I believe my answer is the proper one but am open to correction. You have to go back to download mode and odin yourself to recovery. I have had inconsistent successes with Odin. . .sometimes for no apparent reason the fifth or sixth time works.
Each non-success renders my phone in the state you described unless I go straight into DL mode. I have never rebooted my computer to make this work, or moved my usb, or anything. Just persistence. This is just my personal experience and I am in no way a master of all things android, odin, pits, or anything. Just a tinkerer.

I am having same issue. I cant try again because it is not in the first stage of dl mode that you see when hit 1 and power. It has the icons of a pc and phone communicating with a yellow exclamation triangle in between
PC does not recognize phone is connected because of the stage of dl mode.
Please if anyone can help - created a new thread here

Can anyone help me? I think I bricked my phone.
I followed the instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861253
The thing is, I didn't have the drivers when I put my phone into download mode and put it into the USB, so i left the phone in dl mode and when I replugged it in, I selected the .tar file for PDA and then clicked start.
However, it said "failed on the first upper left box" and I clicked reset. At this point the screen turned black, and now I can't get it to turn back on.
I was on 2.1 rooted. I took out the battery and put it back in and now there's a picture of a phone and a computer with an exclamation mark in between them.

Your phones not bricked, just install the drivers and follow the odin instructions.

Did you install the Samsung Drivers for your computer? If you can't get the drivers to correctly install and recognize your phone, just try a different computer.
Turn off and pull battery, wait a few minutes. Put battery back in and hold down the 1 key and turn on. You should get the boot loader screen.
If you followed the directions, how did you not install the drivers?
also after y install odin and samsung drivers. i had to restart the computer befor they started working right.
Thanks, the battery trick worked. I forgot to install the driver because I have two comps, and the other computer has the drivers, so I didn't bother installing them again.
Yes, I bricked my phone.
I tried all of your advice and nothing worked. The phone wont boot into download mode, boot to clock work mod, let alone even turn on. I bricked my phone after trying to install Viper ROM 3.0.3. I should have just stayed with Epic Experience 2.0.05 as it was good enough.
Thanks everyone for trying to help but if your phone wont turn on no matter what what you read and try here your phone has been bricked.

yes.
the problem is that the phone would not turn on... meaning you can even put it in download mode. i confirmed that it was bricked and that nothing could be done to revive it.
Hey guys,
I am currently experiencing the same problem as the OP.
I was using my phone today and it froze, so I pulled the battery, tried to turn it back on, and got this phone, computer, exclamation point symbol thing
I can get the phone into recovery, but wiping doesn't work.
I can get the phone into download mode to odin, and the comp recognizes it, but the phone turns off within 30 seconds of being in download mode. Not enough time to finish odin'ing.
Any advice?

It is supposed to stay on in download mode. Pull the battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then plug the phone in and see if it will go into download mode with the battery out. If and when it does, pop the battery in and try to Odin the stock files. You have f.reset unchecked, the DI18 tar in the PDA box and Victory_8G.pit file in the pit section right?
Thank you!
I was using the proper files, but that download mode with the battery out did the trick. It stayed on long enough to odin back to DI18.
Thanks again!

For future reference I can fix hard bricked EPIC phones if you need it. Just PM me with questions if you have any. Hard bricks are only fixable via JTAG.
My brother has a rooted Sprint GS4 and he says he clicked to install a Samsung update that was pushed through his phone (probably 4.3). The phone cannot boot into recovery. Trying to get into recovery leads to a screen saying the update is installing and it always fails and restarts the phone. The phone cannot boot and freezes on the Sprint screen.
*EDIT: Now the phone won't even get past the black galaxy s4 screen!!
How I've been troubleshooting:
The battery was taken out for over 6 hours and same thing.
I tried to use ODIN to flash 4.2, ODIN stops on a write error
(following the QB King video)
Should I try to find 4.3 and attempt to flash? Is there anything else I could do? Thanks!!
If the phone was already 4.3, you have to use Odin to flash MK2. Anything older than that will not work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601443
If the update to 4.4.2 (NAE) failed, you may have to use one of the 4.4.2 ROMs to get the phone to boot until the official 4.4.2.tar comes out. Try MK2 first though.

There is a MJA full tar available from rwilco12's repository. First charge the phone for a couple hours. Then put into download mode - volume down+ power, then volume up to confirm. Run Odin as administrator, put the tar.md5 file in the pda shot, connect the phone and flash with Odin 3.07 or 3.09.
First boot may take five earth minutes or more.
If it gets stuck on yellow screen for more that ten minutes, boot into stock recovery and factory reset. Should be good to go.

Thank you for reporting back!
That is a big thing, it really helps the community.
Since the phone will be on the full stock it will probably get the OTA update notification.
Might want to hold off on that for a bit.
To turn off the notification for these in the future:
1. from the homescreen click menu.
2. click settings.
3. click more
4. click application manager.
5. scroll over to all
6. find google services framework.
7. uncheck "show notifications"
the short cut?
1. pull down the notification bar
2. long press on the system update notification
3. press app info
4. uncheck "show notifications"
Have fun and good luck with your new phone.
Spend some time reading, searching and reading and you all will sure enjoy this device.
Good luck.
