A couple of things you need to do. First, go under Settings then Keyboard and check Slide IT keyboard to activate. After activation, then you need to open an app with a dialog box and long press the dialog box. Then a pop up box will open and you can choose Slide IT keyboard. Another way is it open the Slide IT keyboard application and it will walk you through activation and it has its own dialog box you long press on to activate the keyboard.

it's worked. Thanks added.

How could I disable hardware keyboard while it's open and use software keyboard?

I know some of you might think this is a stupid question. I would like to use any on screen keyboard while the hardware keyboard is open and disable hw kb until I want to use it. Let me see if I can explain this to you why.
I am starting to like typing in landscape mode with on screen keyboard. I am getting pretty good at it and definitely think my speed is faster that way than a hardware keyboard. Have any of you tried typing in landscape for any extended length of time? I don't know about you but my fingers really start cramping and hurting because I have to hold the phone with the rest of my hands and fingers while typing with my thumbs. When the hw kb is open, this could give me more area to hold the phone a little more comfortably while using a fast software keyboard. My thumbs wouldn't be at funky downward angles to hit the keys, they would be extended straighter and upwards and might be less prone to getting crampt up and carpel tunnel.
Am I crazy to think this might be useful? Has anyone heard of it being done or an app or hack that could achieve what I'm trying to do?
I do understand where you are coming from, having big hands and fingers can suck sometimes, but I don't think its possible. I've tried to see if I could pull up the virtual landscape keyboard with the hw one open but no luck.

Why'd you get the Shift and not the Evo if you would prefer an on-screen keyboard?

I'm not complaining or whining, I'm just asking for help with something that I might like to do.
to answer your question, yes, it is possible.
i just tested this on skyfire, ebuddy, and gmail. if you simply leave the keyboard in, aka don't slide the screen, and rotate the device, the screen will turn and whatever app you are using will also turn (if it supports it). then just click in the text box you want to type in again, and the onscreen keyboard will come up. I'm using better keyboard atm, so didn't test it with the HTC or any others. but i'm fairly positive that if it works with that one, it'll throw up whichever keyboard you are currently using in the same situation.

I think you missed what he was trying to say. he was asking if it's possible to use the on-screen keyboard with the physical keyboard open.
OP, here's an android tip (it works with any android phone): if you hold down the menu button with your cursor in a text field, it forces the on-screen keyboard to come up. You could try selecting a text field, then holding down the menu button.

I know about what you are explaining, that's normal usage. What I'm interested in is using the open physical keyboard as additional area to hold the phone with while in landscape and using the on screen keyboard. I'm thinking there needs to be something to trick the phone into thinking the keyboard drawer is closed when it's actually open.
It seems, as usual, that I am coming up with lame brain ideas and haven't a clue as how to making them happen. I emailed one keyboard dev a few days ago and haven't heard anything back yet. I guess I could shoot out emails to all the devs of the keyboards I have bought and see if I get a response.

I just tried that with the drawer open and it is not working. I tried switching to the stock keyboard too and still nothing. Thanks for the suggestion.

Damn dude! That really sucks. You have insurance? Can you take it to a repair center?

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a 1-year warranty on manufacturing defects, regardless of insurance standing or the 30-day return policy? Certainly sounds like a manufacturing defect to me, unless it's broken from misuse
this isnt the place for talking about warantee issues. start a different thread. this is about answering the question in this thread.
have you tried any other keyboards from the market or like the swype beta or anything? idk if it would make a difference. i doubt you can disable it while its open. if you want to use the soft keyboard close the phone? Its probably best practice to keep the phone closed when you arent using the hardware keyboard anyways?

and I was pointing out a potential fix for someone with an issue in this thread, try to keep up.
Looks like smart keyboard pro has that feature. Its buried in the advanced menu.
Yes sir it is I just downloaded the trial to give it a shot one thing I notice is when you open the keyboard on the home screen they keyboard pops up over all your icons I'm gonna play with the settings somemore and see what I can do about it
*EDIT* if you are on a text box and hit home the keyboard don't open over home screen but if you just open the phone to put it into landscape on the homescreen they beyboard will pop up just hit the search button then back and you have your whole home screen

Can't change keyboards?

My girlfriend has an Aria, and recently tried to install a new keyboard. We went into the keyboard settings and checked the new keyboard, but whenever the new keyboard comes up, it's the stock HTC one. Has anyone else experienced this?
You have to long press in a text box then choose input method you can then choose the new keyboard there
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
yes, although you enabled the new keyboard, you didn't choose it as your default keyboard.
open something where you can type (text message, note, browser address bar, whatever). press in the text area and hold your finger there until a box pops up. this box should have your keyboard options, select whichever you would like to use.
I am still trying to figure out how to get a keyboard with voice options so i can talk into it

The stock Aria keyboard has a microphone icon on the bottom left. Press it and it will enable voice recognition.
Note: only works whilst connected to the internet.
If you can get your hands on a copy of the newest swype that
has the option for audio input as well. Not sure if the beta is still open or not.

How i can change keyboard on Nexus ROM for X8
I use better keyboard dude, find it on the market
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
you can change it by parameters, no?
if you have another keyboard/s already installed, then go to settings->language and keyboard. mark the one that you want to use, then go to SMS app, make a long click (i mean hold your finger there for a while) on a blank space where you write text, and a popup "input method" should appear. choose the one you like, and enjoy your new keyboard.

Stock keyboard activation

I know I have seen this discussed but my searches didn't find them so I am asking now.
I was trying to complete a form in a website this morning but I couldn't get the standard keyboard to pop up. Has anyone found a way to do this? By the way, I am trying to use the stock browser as well.
Thanks.

So I take it when you click/touch on a form field, the cursor appears but the keyboard does not?
Try going to Settings >> Language & Input >> Under "keyboard Settings", chose "Current input method" >> Then select "English (US) Keyboard."
Give that a try and see if that works.
please delete. posted wrong place.
Thanks for the tip. That is my default. I was hoping there would be a manual method for bringing the keyboard up.

Are you looking for some kind of keystroke/tap that brings up the keyboard whenever? The only thing I know of that brings up the keyboard is clicking on a text entry box or something else that will take text. Some applications(like a remote desktop client) have a menu option to bring up the keyboard, but as far as I know there isn't really a way to just "summon" the keyboard when it isn't needed.
Have you used a bluetooth keyboard lately? I notice that, unless you have the settings right, even when the bt keyboard is off, sometimes no onscreen keyboard comes up.
No. I've not used a Bluetooth keyboard. I am trying not to need one.
Yes. I was hoping I could have a keystroke to bring it up. The application I was trying to enter text in is a Yahoo crossword puzzle. I do those when I am bored and just tried it Friday. The puzzle comes up nicely but one cannot enter text into the grid.
Thanks

Keyboard Gestures

I've been playing around with the G2 since I got it on release day and the one thing I can't figure out are the keyboard gestures. On the keyboard settings it says swipe to hide or swipe for one handed typing but I still having, figured out how to use these. Has anyone tried or figure it out??
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
A quick swipe down will close the keyboard, like pressing the back button.
To use the "one handed" feature, you have enable it in the LG Keyboard setting under gesture. And there a quick swipe left or right orientates it.
Got it, it's a quick swipe, I was doing a medium speed swipe lol.. also if you look at the settings for the keyboard you'll see there is a gesture for one handed typing without enabling the one handed use. It's a simple swipe right/left depending on where you want it. The gesture has to be enabled in the settings.

Throw the G2 in landscape with the keyboard and quick swipe your thumbs away starting from the center of the screen. It'll split the keyboard for your thumbs.
on the same keyboard theme...yes I use the little smiley's when i send texts (always used instead of the emoticons). Im using the android keyboard and when you get the little notification bubble pop up that you can reply from, the smiley tab is there. But when you go to the texting app, its an enter key There is no smiley or emoticon button on the LG keyboard either. Any settings option Im missing?
