Hi, I installed version 1.4 dexter, now no longer works USB and SD, I could help. I have to install the previous version to solve the problem?. Thanks.
Same here...by the way try to read some of the posts under development tab....
Regards
personally, it's worked great for me.
Really...could you do me a favor and let me know what the folders name are that refer to usb and sdcard....mnt/sdcard/sdcard0-disk0 and usb0-disk0 or just sdcard-usb and usb-disk...
Regards
location: /mnt/sdcard
names are
usb0-disk
sdcard-disk
create with IOFilemanager..
btw, version 1.41 fixes it (just tested removing sdcard-disk folder)
Have fc on the market and a few other apps I wiped and reset any ideas?

That is weird. I had read that the reason for delaying UK release was to work out bugs between Sense and Honeycomb. Doesn't make sense to me to do all the work for Honeycomb just to release it with Froyo in a different market.

Sense 3.0? I thought the new release was going to be Sense 2.0. (Ok, I checked, wow am I behind the times lol )
I hope someone here can tell me what I'm doing wrong, since I have been unsuccessful in downloading Dexter's updates and thus haven't been able to fully utilize my tablet! I've been trying to look through all the pages but haven't seen information to help this situation. Hope I don't end up feeling foolish because I've overlooked one simple thing...
This is what's happening:
(A comment: I had to download file from Dexter's site; for some reason, even when I give permission to download the blocked file from here, I just get an "about.blank" page on two different computers!)
I copy the file to my micro sd card (not an sdhc, since it seems that's not relevant). Each time, there is a folder called "LOST.DIR", along with the folder I saved as "update" (I don't add the .zip since it already recognizes it as a zip file.). The "lost" always has a time several hours later than the “zip” file. (Note: I had no problem updating the firmware with the same SD card.)
Since the first time I tried to apply the 1.3 update, and now with the 1.41, I can't install it as directed on p. 1--I can't get into the recovery area because it powers off. Instead, I follow directions found on YouTube: settings, about device, system updates, update device, do it, ok.
“Detect recovery flag, booting update kernel” flashes quickly
"loading" bar is under box with arrow and android avatar for a couple of minutes (the YouTube said it would take about five minutes), then it stops.
I hit home and in blue it says:
Android system recovery <1e>
Android system recovery utility
Reboot system now
Apply update.zip
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Under the blue line in yellow, it says:

Info on your PC setup please. Mac? PC? Linux?
Also, I noticed this "along with the folder I saved as "update"" in your post. you are not creating an actual folder on the MicroSD are you?
Assuming your SD card reader is drive F: (assuming also Windows machine) then your ROM's complete path should be F:\Update.zip
Just trying to avoid confusion that maybe you are creating F:\update\ElocityMod141.zip or something similar

I think the trick might just be to let go sooner...
Start from the device being completely powered down (not just in sleep mode)
Hold power button for 2 (or 3) seconds
Let go for just a split second and hold it down again.
The screen will come on and you will see something along the lines of "to boot into kernel recovery continue to hold for 5 seconds"
Keep holding it until you see something like "booting into recovery" (I can't remember the exact wording)
AS SOON AS YOU SEE THAT LET GO.
Bam, recovery mode.
I think when you get the update you just save one over the other replacing the file this gave me errors IE bad update everytime. Download the 1.41 leave the name it has the same. Delete the update off your sd and cop the newly downloaded one to it after. Once its on card rename it.

Thanks for such a quick reply!
I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium on a Samsung N150 Plus.
I saved the file as "update" blank SD card. Deleted files each time before attempting a fresh download. Each time have the two files as listed: lost.dir as a file folder and update.zip as a compressed (zipped) file, currently 1,427 kb.
The powered down sequence still does the same, trying it a few times--goes right to device bootup. I remember that from the firmware update (which went without a hitch!) but it's not working now
Aha...progress! May have held down too long but now see in blue

Also, downloads for Dexter's mods have historically been buggy for many users. The file you download (through 1.3) should be around 100MB. The exact size varies between versions. If the above suggestions don't work for you, try downloading the file again.
If you still have issues with the downloaded file, other users have found download success by using a browser download plugin called flashgot. It only works with Firefox and Thunderbird though.
http://flashgot.net/
I had an issue with the download with similar results to yours. My download was only about 63K whem it should of been a little over 100MB.
I had to start down loading the 1.2 update, that would start to download the whole 1.2 file. I'd cancel the download then download 1.3. For some reason after that it downloaded the complete 1.3 update file and I was able do the update.
So, check your downloaded file size and see if that's you issue. Also make sure you rename it Update with a capitol "U".
how long does the download take? i followed the instructions and my screen went to a picture of an android? and a box and stayed that way.

Did you boot into recovery (1. by turning off the unit, then power it on by holding the power button for a second, release, and then hold again until the recovery menu pops up), or did you use the settings menu to run the Update file (2. Open Settings > About device > System updates > Update device)?
If you did option 1, the soft keys on the side of the tablet allow you to navigate from the image you reference (android robot & box):
Search Key = Up
Back Key = Down
Home Key = Menu
Menu Key = Select
When you see the robot, press the Home key to take you to the update menu. Navigate the menu to clear your cache. After the cache wipe is complete, select the option to install Update.zip. Give it about 10min to run through the update, and it should reboot. If it reboots into an Elocity Logo loop, long press the power key until it shuts down. Your next boot should take you into a properly functioning tablet. Depending on the version of the OS you currently have installed, the update may retain your current apps and settings.
I haven't tried option 2 in a while, but it should do everything for you automatically - but it will probably factory reset the tablet and you'll lose any previously installed apps.
thanks. Did not know this when i posted found out byaccident when wipinfg off fingerprints. Wish they sent directions with the A7.

Another newbie here with a question.
My new A7 is due to be delivered tomorrow.
From what I have gathered so far from this board is that the Dexter Mod allows you to get apps from google marketplace, correct?
I am not sure which version of firmware will come on the A7 but I am going to assume that it will not be the latest one released in February.
My question is should I do the firmware update first, and then download and install the Dexter Mod?
Thanks in advance.

Dexter's mods have all been based on firmware updates from Elocity. He has kindly added market functionality and fixed a few bugs. I don't see any value in updating with Elocity's firmware prior to installing Dexter's latest.
As the other poster said there is no need for the elocity 7 update but if I were youI would keep it handy. I had a problem with the mod and had to reset the device with the old firmware. Also it seems a weird problem with android reading the file as when reading in astro the upddate.zip looked like update.zip.zip. w
Wierd.
So you just write update i dont even capitalize it.
Also want to add as newbie to andrid as well and it makes a huge difference in performance too. Think it is fast now when you put the mod it seemed to increase overall performance for me which I did not expect.
Good luck

That is not an android problem. That is what happens when windows explorer is set to hide known file extensions and people dont think when remaming things.
Please do not insult people because we lack knowledge which is why we are here to figure out what is going on. I had no idea windows explorer was set to hide file extensions. I never set it that way nor was i ever told before now. Now that I know i can do something but I was thinking, maybe i do not know what i am doing but you could offer help without making me feel like an idiot.

So it is not OK for me to point out an obvious mistake (seriously, this one is like calling grass purple). BUT it is perfectly fine for you to assume that it is a "problem with android" and disseminate misinformation like its your job.
Yup, I am obviously in the wrong.
It is obvious to you. I made a mistake and never said I was an expert and pointed that out in my response by saying I was a newbie too and this was what happened to me and my best guess was what I said. I never said I knew it was an andriod glitch but because I had no other idea until someone like you with more knowledge chimmed in.
All I am saying is you could have corrected me as a newbie with a sense of friendship and not superiority. I was sharing my experience to help someone else. That is all I want to do. I am no expert and am learning as I go.
I have seen others in linux forums when i started with that with the tone. Maybe it seems like thecolor of grass to you but is not so obvious to others. If I sounded like I was telling people mis information then I apologize. That was not my intention.
It is up to you how you treat others and if it feels like the right thing then that is your right. Just understand that some of us are not out to show we are smarter than anyone else and are just trying to help even when we make wrong assumptions.
Thanks for correcting me and setting the record straight.
Rob
rename teh update - update- DONOT PUT THE ZIP PART.
i had the same problem. i noticed the elocity update did not use the zip in the update name.
- It has already been confirmed several times, the 2 files are EXACTLY the same (OTA and the 91.14mb file from samsung)
- Performing the update this way did not destroy any of my data, texts, applications, contacts, etc. Everything was exactly the same, except for the new version of Android. You must have a stock phone or the update most likely will not work.

"Force OTA"
UPDATE:: IF you cannot for whatever reason load the file to your SD Card, gmail yourself the link (below) and download it using Dolphin HD browser. I just confirmed it works on my phone, however, it does not work with the stock browser. Check the market for Dolphin HD, it's free. Client mode is set to desktop, which is under settings once in Dolphin HD. I was able to download the update.zip to the phone rather quickly over 4G Other browsers may work, I prefer that one though. Doesn't hurt to try. The stock one will not save the file, though will navigate to it.
As I first posted yesterday, there are [now 3] ways of downloading and installing the new EB13 Froyo release. If you have a Windows PC, there is a new utility that Samsung has released to flash the phone via PC. I personally couldn't get it to run on my Win 7 x64 laptop due to the enlarged font I run on my high-res laptop screen. Additionally, the 200MB file will wipe your phone completely clean. If you have a "trouble free" factory install of the current 2.1.1, the update method contained here is your best bet. Trouble free meaning that only bugs of the software are present. If you have issues above and beyond that of all other eclair users, you may want to completely wipe your phone.
The easiest and fastest method is to visit Samsung's Sprint Epic download page here http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SPH-D700ZKASPR and click the "Software" link (Manuals is the default landing page) and download the 91.14MB File labeled as for MAC OS. You will notice the much larger windows download (200MB) which is not needed, and may not work.
After you download the zip file, copy it over to your SD Card in your phone by either hooking it up and mounting it as you would normally do to copy files to your phone, or as I did, place the Micro SD card into an adapter and insert it into your computer. Copy the .zip file you downloaded onto the SD card; do not place it into any directory.
With your phone powered off, insert the SD Card back into the phone and replace the battery cover. Now, while holding both volume up and volume down rocker buttons (yes, you can push both at the same time), hold the camera button down as well and then press and hold the power on key. You will hold all 4 buttons on the phone until it boots into the flash menu.
Use the volume down button to scroll to..
"Apply SDcard: Update.Zip"
Push the Home key on the bottom of the phone and the update will commence.
Once it's complete, the phone may reboot into the menu again, at which time you select "Reboot" and hit the home key again.
The phone may reboot a few more times after it's first boot, and it may take a few minutes to fully get up and running. If it acts strange for a few minutes, this is normal.
Performing the update this way did not destroy any of my data, texts, applications, contacts, etc. Everything was exactly the same, except for the new version of Android. You must have a stock phone or the update most likely will not work. No ROMS, etc may be installed for the update to work. Before doing the update, go through your applications and uninstall anything you don't want / use.
You may also wait for the OTA update, but it will take a while to download, use up your battery, and you have to wait longer. It has already been confirmed several times, the 2 files are EXACTLY the same (OTA and the 91.14mb file from samsung) DO NOT waste time using a link to another file, there is no point and only risk in obtaining the file from somewhere else.
Before I began, I copied things off of my SD card that I wanted and performed a format on it. If you have apps installed on the SD Card, and you choose to do this, you may need to reinstall them. Once the update was complete, I copied the directories and files back to the SD Card.

Eh, it's not as concise, and also not borrowed. This is the easy, "don't do anything but update my OS" method. NOTHING is needed except the ability to load the Update.zip to the SD Card.

So is there something I am doing wrong?

This has been answered in one of those posts with several hundred replies (if I had the answer on-hand, I would post it). I kept the Epic stock to avoid any issues, so my update was rather simple. A few people have already had to reload their phones a couple of times before everything worked out.

DK28 wasn't official. The latest official release is DI18 - 2.1.1. This updates STOCK 2.1.1 ONLY.
I didn't care to fool with the phone originally due to not knowing the exact release date of froyo. It has been way over due, but I honestly didn't have any reason to mod. Froyo has enhanced the phone, but honestly doesn't provide anything new that would change the way I already use the device. GPS is faster to acquire in google maps, but in GPS Test, it was always fairly instant. It's also reports more accurate, reports being key, it wasn't ever off but by 20 feet anyway, which is about all you can expect on 3D accuracy.
I used the .exe file from Samsung website to flash my phone and works like a champ.
Now some minor quirks with Froyo but will address them in different threads.
Thanks for the help!!

And even tho it sed it can't read sdcard, did it proceed to install anyway ?
yes it did go ahead with the installation, but it is during the installation process where i saw something about can't read error, i jus got it yesterday then i did the new update from elocity website. then i tried al,ost all of dexter's mod
these are the exat message i got was (E:can't open/usb/update.zip)
(E:Can't mount USB:update.zip)
then underneath that it say (Finding update package)
then it say (Wait for 5 second)
(Installation time out)
(installation aborted)
(Formatting MISC)
these are all the thing it say during installation
Does your a7 read, mount and unmount the sdcard stock?
What is the path to the update.zip?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to get on the same page

I'm having just about the same problem. Will be interested to hear any helpful suggestions. At this point, the only thing that is working is to do the factory reset and use the basic version again. I keep getting a message that "update.zip" (although I named it "Update.zip") is a bad file. I also did not get "apply sdcard:update.zip" as a menu option, only "apply:update.zip", which when clicked did read the sd card, then gave the bad file message.
update
Lemme clarify first then update. I bought the A7 in February and loaded the most current Dexter mod at that time. It's been running beautifully until this week. Over a period of days, the A7 started acting up until it was no longer usable at all. First, the BlueTooth cut out, then the WiFi, then it just got stuck and was repeatedly lighting up the Elocity logo, but never fully booting up.
Elocity support said to do the Factory reset, which I did and it was back to baseline again. Trying to install the latest version of Dexter is where my problem started. (end of history)
So, now the update for this evening: I tried every version of Dexter's mods and got the "bad" file message each time, even after downloading them again to be sure I wasn't using a corrupted copy. However, my A7 will wipe, then update with Elocity Firmware 2.0134 and read it just fine on the exact same SD card when renamed "Update.zip".
So, now I have a very frustrated boy with autism who can't do his Google Voice search anymore and the Android Marketplace doesn't let me download the apps I already bought for him. We're back to where we were when it arrived out of the box in February, but unable to restore what we had.
I have to think there's a conflict between Dexter's Mods and the new firmware, even after one wipes everything. I even tweeted Dexter (and I don't *do* Twitter!) to see if he could respond for help and am waiting for a response.
Can someone please help? Thanks!!
Sounds like your having issues with the files you download, I have gotten in the habit of not renaming the update file to just that until its on the usb card. Seen to many messages like yours if I saved one update over a prior with the same name. Try download 1.41 and 1.42 leave their names the way they are and save them to folder on your computer. Copy them bother to sd-card leaving names the same still. once both are there rename 1.41 to Update. Remove card from pc put in tablet. Use the recovery system method (press then hold power button method) do wipe, clear cache, the use update option. If this is successful which it should be delete the 1.41 file on card that you renamed to Update, this can be done on tablet or computer. Once that file is gone rename the 1.42 to Update and once again flash from recovery system.
Hope that solves your issue
Make it a habit to not save an update over top of another, though it seems like it would keep you from having to rename but for me it always seemed to corrupt the file.
thanks! I'll give that a try. I notice you said "PC", but I have a Mac ... could that be part of the issue ... downloading to Mac, then moving the file to SD or USB? (could be a stupid question, but if I don't ask, that makes me even more ignorant)

Do you end up with a folder or a zip file? Safari has a bad habit of extracting zips when it downloads them. Search my posts, there is a long ranting one that covers issues with both PC and Mac.
they're zipped ... I use Firefox 4.0, when the option comes up at download, I always click "save", not "open". Thanks, though.
well, problem solved. I ran Bestial's gapps patch over top of the new eLocity firmware and i have full functionality again. very happy mom here! now to reload all those apps for my boy! =D
Wow, I'm glad you found a solution...I have been following the thread and was getting worried.
I had the same problem after downloading the newest elocity update and then trying dexter's mod. I found out my problem is that I renamed the file "update.zip". If you just rename the file to" update" then it loaded fine. Not totally sure why this worked and maybe it was just my case, but maybe it will help some of you out!

No. Your problem was that you were using a windows machine and your file extensions were hidden (I am psychic, but don't worry, I won't tell anyone your pin number). She is using a Mac, no hidden file extensions.
How do you get to the gapps patch? I'm really having trouble getting any updates on my a7. seems like its not taking anything off the sdcard. i brought a new card and I'm still having the same issue.

bestialbub's patch for google apps (to use the market) can be found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019846 with the instructions
It's still working very well for us ... several weeks later.
Good luck!
I just managed to root my SCH i400 (first ever rooting of any Android device for me).
I am very surprised by how smoothly it went, despite reports & warnings everywhere about complications (like this one - which should be totally ignored if you're using SuperOneClick v2.1.1 or higher).
For the benefit of n00bs like me who may be confused by multiple sources, resources, versions and problem reports, I am posting a step by step procedure that is confirmed (by me, on Windows XP SP3) to be working smoothly, without a single hitch of complications:
Phone: Make sure setting > applications > unknown sources is checked.
Phone: Make sure phone is in debugging mode.
Phone: Make sure SD card is unmounted!
PC: Make sure Windows USB driver for this phone installed and works
PC: Make sure .NET 3.51 SP1 is installed.
PC: Unzip SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse.zip ==> C:\Program Files\SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse
PC: Double-click SuperOneClick.exe
PC (in SuperOneClick): Make sure you're on the Universal tab (the only other tab is Samsung Captivate, which isn't the i400).
PC (in SuperOneClick): Now click the root button and wait for the process to complete.
PC (in SuperOneClick): "BusyBox not found. Would you like to install it?" Yes!
PC (in SuperOneClick): "Root install has completed! Would you like to run a test?" Yes!
PC (in SuperOneClick): "Your device has been rooted! Would you like to donate now?"
Exit SuperOneClick, unplug phone from USB, power down phone, power on phone. -- this step might not be mandatory, I just did it to be on the safe side.
Enjoy!
Great job on this tut.

Froyo is so nice... Here's how...
Hey guys... new poster here.
Just got a (Gently used) Samsung Continuum for free from Verizon after the power button on my G Droid 1 broke.
Anyways, after rcving it and realizing that it would only support Android 2.1 - I was slightly upset.
My D1 was rooted and modded to the max many times over with just about every ROM you can get.
So after reading up about IMNUTS leaking the Froyo download for the Continuum, my hopes were raised.
It is now debinged, debloated, lightening quick and amazing!
There may not be ROMS out there yet - but I truly hope some of you geniuses decide to make a few.
Just wanted to say thanks and encourage you to do some research before rooting it.
Here's what worked for me.
Odin 1.3
Continuum PIT.pit file
froyo_modem.tar.md5
cwm_recovery_test4_adryn.tar
cyan Clockwork Mod Recovery (BLUE, not yellow) (update.zip file, which is placed on the root of your SD card - renamed to update.zip)
stock_deodexed_ec03.zip (ROM)
(Place all of these files on your Desktop for easy access)
How to do it...
1. Connect your phone to your computer and Mount it.
2. Place the cyan CWM Recovery zip file to your SD card. (rename it to update.zip & do not put it in any folders. Just drag the file to your SD card - whatever drive it is listed as. Mine is my Removeable F
3. Make a new folder on your SD card. Name it whatever you want. (Mine is named "Froyo") Place the stock_deodexed_ec03.zip file in the folder on your SD card.
4. Open Odin 1.3 on your PC.
5. While your phone is off... hold the down volume button and connect it to your computer via USB. The yellow triangle will appear and it will say "Downloading". (Some people say to take the battery out, but my Odin program would not recognize my phone without the battery. Whichever works for you is fine.)
6. In Odin - Click the PIT file button. Load the Continuum.Pit.pit file into the file field. (Just double click it once you find the file from your Desktop.)
7. In Odin - Click the PDA button. Load the froyo_modem.tar.md5 file into the file field. (same as #6. Just double click it once you find the file from your Desktop.)
8. Click Start in Odin.
It should think for a minute, then say resetting, then say PASS
Then your phone will probably turn back on - turn it off again and reconnect it to your PC in download mode as stated in #5 above.
9. In Odin - Click the PDA button again. Load the cwm_recovery_test4_adryn.tar file as you did in #'s 6 and 7 above.
10. Click Start again in Odin... same as before. (thinking, resetting and PASS)
Your phone will turn on again.
11. Disconnect your phone from the computer & turn it off.
12. Hold both Volume buttons and turn it on. It will boot into the Samsung Recovery mode.
13. Use your Volume buttons to go down to highlight "apply update.zip" Then find the place where your normal Menu softkey would be and push it. The phone should then reboot into Clockwork Mod Recovery. It will be orangish.
14. In CWM, use the Volume buttons to highlight Backup/ Restore. Use the Power Button to choose it. Then at the next field, highlight Backup and make a backup.
15. After is makes the backup, press where the softkey Back button should be to go back to the original screen. From there, do a Wipe Data/ Factory reset. Do not forget to do this part.
16. Once it does the Data Wipe - go back to the main menu and and highlight & select the "zip from SD card" choice. Find your "Froyo" folder (of whatever you named it) and apply the stock_deodexed_ec03.zip file.
17. After that, go back to the main menu again and reboot your phone.
It may take a while, but your phone should restart in Froyo.
Of course, you have to re-sign in to your Google network...
Thanks so much guys for all the posts. Without them, is nowhere near as cool.
Hanging at Step #5, Now what?
Thank you for sharing. Wish I could say it went as smoothly for me with my SCH-I400 Continuum... I'm still working on it! I followed recommendations of several different developers/rooters. I've installed .Net Framework 4.0 and the SDK developers kit (who knows, maybe I'll start a new hobby...), and now when I run Superoneclick it hangs at step #5 with this message:
link_image[1728]: 3252 could not load needed library 'libdiskconfig.so' for './zergRush' (load_library[1058]: Library 'libdiskconfig.so' not found)CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
I have rebooted the computer and the phone, unmounted the SD card, settings to allow unknown sources, and turned on USB debugging. I'm not sure why the config file can't be found, and I don't know where to get it...
Do I need to reinstall the SDK? Or install the additional Java developers software? Or am I over-complicating this whole thing?
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated...
-James
Perhaps the easiest way is to flash a rooted ROM through Odin (or Heimdall)... Especially if you don't use Windows. This is how I did it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203597
Two topics in one thread?
Hmmm... seems we have 2 things happening hear. 1: Rooting a Samsung Continuum, and 2: Flashing a ROM...
My concern is the "hang" at step five for Rooting my Continuum SCH-I400... Cant use a ROM until the dang thing is rooted, and can't seem to figure out the hang.
Tried Z4 root from the phone rather than through the PC and it hung indefinitely... Maybe there's a related issue, and I don't care if it's Superoneclick or Z4 that gets the job done.
Has anyone gotten past the same issue?

That's where you are over complicating. You don't actually have to root BEFORE you flash a new rom, if the rom is 'prerooted'. I've never rooted this thing via s1c or z4. I simply flashed the kernels via odin and flashed the rom in cwm.

That's fine Txwolf, but still doesn't address the issue... Or the original reason for this thread - Rooting - which is is essential for the programs I am going to run, and that is what I have been asking about...

The issue seems to be that you just have to use that little search box a little better via xda or your web browser and find more information the root program your trying to use.
When you give up on that you can take txwolf1980 's advice
PS hang on step 5 in OP? Or in 3rd post? That would be getting into dl mode lol

I spent 6 hours last night troubleshooting, researching, digging deep, and "using that little search box." Seems to me You guys need to "just read the thread." It's about rooting your phone, period. If a forum is out there, I've probably read it. I'm using superoneclick to do it. SDK is installed. Net framework is installed. My error message frome SOC is above. When I am finally rooted, THEN I will install several programs - starting with a wifi tether.
I see you have the same phone as I do. Is it rooted with a one-click method? I also tried Z4root and didn't like it.

you are running dl17 stock 2.1 correct?
what OS is your pc running?
and yes i have same phone as you. i have used superone click on ec03 build once.
just for root. but then flashed a deodexed rom to use custom mods and apps.
and since have been flashing rooted kernels, imnuts and adrynalynne have released most all of them.
there are a few ways to root the device, best bet is, as always is go to IRC.
clarity and patience are key, we all got to practice both
I rooted EC09 with soc no problem. If I send someone the EC09 could they extract the apks and send them to me? I deleted some sys apps for the ticker and rss feeds and need them back now to use it.

FYI, my Windows Defender threat scanner just reported this SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse.zip file as Exploit:AndroidOS/CVE-2011-1823, more specifically pointing at a file named Exploits/GingerBreak in that ZIP file.
I am going to delete this ZIP file as I no longer need it, but I got curious: Any idea what this means?

It means it'll root your phone. Some applications could try to do this without permission and do shady things with your phone. Nothing to worry about if your doing it on purpose.

Im assuming by now everyone is on EG04 Gingerbread?
Hello,
I have just installed CyanogenMod 7 for the Barnes & Noble Nook Color :: V7.0.3 using ClockworkMod Recovery.
After installing CyanogenMod 7, I install the Google Apps addon version: gapps-gb-20110307. The installation goes smoothly, and I receive the "Installation Complete!" message before I remove the MicroSD card and reboot.
Upon reboot from ClockworkMod Recovery, I receive an "Installation Failed" screen that tells me to power on and off the device. I do so, and successfully boot into CyanogenMod7.
I immediately proceed to the Homescreen, where the only items are "Messaging" "Contacts" "Clock" "Email" "Camera" and "Gallery". I have no prompt to set up my Google Account or Timezone. Also, I do not have Market, but I can connect to my WiFi network.
Thank you for your help, it is appreciated. I am obviously a noob, and my apologies for stepping on any toes!
Wow! Looking at some of the questions neighboring mine and their lack of responses, I tend to doubt that mine is going to get answered, even over the long run. I thought this forum had active users, at least that is what the Registration Video said...6 million active users was it???
First of all, deep breath. It may not get answered right away, but typically the questions get answered.
First off, any particular reason you are running 7.0.3? If I recall, this includes the old kernel that has terrible battery life. I would recommend going to 7.1 found here.
I don't know which gapps goes with 7.0.3, but I would double check to make sure it was the right one. I'd still recommend upgrading to 7.1 stable.
Also, I personally recommend doing ROM and GAPPS in two steps... I have eliminated some of the problems I have seen myself by using that method.
1. Install ROM... boot it up... let it settle in.
2. Reboot into CWM and install GAPPS... boot it up... do your thing
Also remember... 4 hours isn't a real long time to wait before posting a second post like you did... especially on a Sunday evening... This is a forum... not an immediate feedback application.
My apologies for my impatience. I did not mean to sound so callous, but after rereading my comment, I realize how abrupt it was.
Also, I remember the site introduction mentioning clicking on the thanks meter as a piece of site etiquette. How do I do that?
After following your advice, I am still having the same problem: not able to use the Android Marketplace as the item is not on my Homescreen, and the Google Apps are not installing.
I took biohazrd's advice, and I upgraded to 7.1 stable.
I also took DizzyDen's advice and installed CyanogenMod 7.1, reboot, let it settle, powered off, booted into Clockwork and installed the google apps pack (gapps-gb-20110828-signed), then rebooted again.
Still, I have no Android Marketplace.
As I stated in my previous post, I am a newbie, and I don't know what I am talking about, but off the top of my head, I have a feeling as if the google apps pack that I used (gapps-gb-20110828-signed) is not the right one. Could this hold any water?
Also, I don't know if it makes any difference, but I bought my Nook in December 2011 and it is a refurbished model. Because I purchased it in 2011, I updated the partitioning scheme using (repartition1GBdata-v1) and (reformatData-v1).
Thanks again, I appreciate the help!

If it isn't on the Homescreen, did you check by open App Drawer?
Thanks for the reply Votinh.
I did not find the Marketplace in the App Drawer. My app drawer currently contains:
Browser, Calculator, Calendar, Camera, Clock, Contacts, Dev Tools, Downloads, DSPManager, Email, File Manager, Gallery, Messaging, Music, Phone, ROM Manager, Search, Settings, Sound Recorder, Spare Parts, Superuser, Terminal Emulator, Theme, Chooser, Videos and Voice Dialer.
I was having a look around and figured out how to look at the Internal storage and found something called Market Apps Installer version 1.1. I click on it, but it offers few options to fiddle with and seemingly no way to access the Android Marketplace.
Again, thanks for your help, I truly do appreciate it!
If it doesn't work as expect, I guess you have to list step by step what you have done up to that point, that may help us pin point where and what you did wrong.
Also, pls clearly indicate where you run the ROM from.
Thanks again for your help, Votinh.

I am not sure what you mean. Where can I possibly run the ROM from (what are the possible answers)? I would assume that I could run it only from the SD card. Sorry for being a newbie!
I will list step by step all of my actions and detail them in the response. Maybe, I will go through the whole installation process again and mark down everything that transpires.
Also, what do you think of my theory? That I am downloading and installing the wrong gapps pack?

In here, xda NC forum, you will frequently see the term "eMMC" and "uSD"
eMMC refers to the internal memory of the device, as currently where the B&N stock ROM resides while uSD is the external card where we can put the custom ROMs such CM7/9 in and run from there.
Depends on which method you choose to use, different procedures/instructions needed.

Everything is possible from bad zip to bad card.

I am ashamed to say it, but I do not know how to verify a checksum to ensure the intergrity of a download. Although, I did download the gapps file twice, once each on different computers, copied it to the SD card and attempted to update. Is it possible that I could have gotten 2 bad downloads on 2 different PCs?
I have gone back and redone every bit of my CyanogenMod and Google apps installation on my Nook Color. I have taken notes on it and below is my step by step description of what I have done and observed. My apologies for the book, but I wanted to be as thorough as I could. Thanks for your help and I would appreciate and advice that can help me resolve this unfortunate situation.
1. Downloaded ClockworkModRecovery (2gb_clockwork-0.7.tar.gz) from http://code.google.com/p/monster-rootpack/downloads/detail?name=2gb_clockwork-0.7.tar.gz&can=2&q=
2. Downloaded CyanogenMod 7.1 (update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip) from here http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=encore
3. Downloaded Google Apps (gapps-gb-20110828-signed) from here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version/Google_Apps
4. Downloaded Win32DiskImager (win32diskimager-binary) from here https://launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/+download
5. Extracted Win32DiskImager files to a folder on desktop
6. Decompressed and Extracted ClockworkModRecovery to Desktop (this took longer than I expected, the extraction strangely taking 5 minutes)
7. Start up Win32 DiskImager and receive the following File Error message: An error occurred while accessing the device. This usually means something is currently accessing the device; please close all applications and try again. Error 1 Incorrect Function.
8. The File Error message displays itself 3 times. I click OK three times, and then the Win32 Application opens, and I continue with my process.
9. Use Win32 DiskImager to write ClockworkMod onto my MicroSD card. The MicroSD card is a 1 year old, 2GB Transcend MicroSD Card. I use an Kingmax MicroSD card adapter to plug the card into my Computer’s SD card slot.
10. Copy the CyanogenMod 7.1 file and the Gapps 20110828 file to the MicroSD card.
11. Eject the MicroSD card from the PC, insert it into my Nook, and power on.
12. Boot into ClockwordMod Recovery, I go to Mounts and Storage, click on Format System and confirm YES. Next, I format Data and Cache.
13. NOTE: Previously, I was receiving an "Error: can't format /data" error as my newer Nook Color had a different partitioning scheme. I used ‘reformatData-v1’ and ‘repartition1GBdata-v1’ to remedy this when I first attempted to install CyanogenMod. It seems to have gone off without a hitch.
14. I then go to ‘install zip from sdcard’ , the choose ‘choose zip from SD card’ and select the Cyanogenmod 7.1 zip. It opens and installs.
15. After the install completes, I remove the SD card and reboot the Nook.
16. Upon reeboot, I get a Cyanogen loading screen for a few seconds, followed by an error screen that says Install Failed with a large red and white exclamation mark over a Nook clip art.
17. The Nook powers off after a few seconds. I then power on again and sucesssfully boot into Cyanogenmod. I do not have the Marketplace app at this point.
18. I power off, replace the SD card, and boot into Clockworkmod.
19. I choose ‘install zip from sdcard’ and then ‘choose zip from SDcard’ and the gapps zip. I confirm YES and install the gapps zip.
20. I remove the SD card and reboot the system. I receive the exact same ‘Install Failed’ error screen with the red and white exclamation mark over a nook clip art.
21. After a few seconds the nook powers off after the error screen. I power on again and boot into CyanogenMod.
22. There is no Marketplace app on the homescreen or in the App Drawer, leaving me with the same initial problem
Thank you for everything!
I don't think Market will show until you have registered with google. There is a setup wizard or one time provisioning process to go through. That may be the thing that is failing when you first boot. Not sure how to get you back on track.

Re: Google Apps Not Installing
Hi,
After you install CM 7.1, Google Apps, and reboot (hard power off and cold boot - the first boot will fail), look for the Google Talk app in your App Drawer and log in to it with your Google credentials. That should spawn the installation of the rest of the Google Apps, including the Android Marketplace.
Also, strangely enough, when installing my first app from the Market, I had to install it with the device physically in landscape mode, as the installation failed when the device was being held in portrait orientation. This seemed to clear up after the first app was installed.
I stumbled across this thread tonight, as I was searching for a solution to this exact problem while updating a friends Nook Color to CM 7.1. This did the trick for me.
Good luck!
Frank
Thank you Frank! I am going to finish up my current task then break out the Nook and cross my fingers that this will work! I will let you know!
I, too, am having problems
I don't mean to thread-jack, but I am also having problems with gapps.
Following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
The version of CM7 I placed on my card is "cm_encore_full-253.zip". The steps all the way through putting that on the card, putting that in the Nook, booting, it all worked fine. I DID notice the line that said something along the lines of looking for the gapps installation, not finding it, and skipping that step.
I downloaded the Gapps ("gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip") onto my computer. I shut off my NC, took out the SD card, and went to put it into my computer. Lo and behold, my computer can't read the SD card. It tells me it needs to be formatted before it can be used.
Uh. How am I supposed to get anything on the sd card?! I can't even format it to start over - Windows fails to format it.
I tried plugging in my NC to my computer - I at least got the CM7SDCARD to open, but it doesn't appear to be everything (there's no "boot" folder there). I tried moving the zip file to just the main directory of what I saw, and booted into recovery mode, but nothing happened.
Any assistance would be appreciated!

Look at my post here. It tells you how to make the boot partition show up in your system. In your case download the rar rev 1 and follow the directions (per edit 2) on how to manually put the file on your system.

Edit: You sound like a newby, so in order to do this you need the program "root explorer" which you buy on the market. Very useful program for later use too.
If you don't feel like trying this, get a different card reader or computer to see if that helps reading the card.
Edit 2: Also look here for a more recent nightly that has a few bugs fixed. It was built in January and 253 was in November.
