Rooted tab, few issues - Galaxy Tab General

Ok, let me start by saying that im by no means new to the hacking community. I am however new to samsung hacking. I rooted my tab this morning and acording to the directions it was supposed to reboot and backup, it rebooted but never started backing up, so I turned it off and went into recovery and it did as it was supposed to. I finished following directions and what not and now my auto rotate does mot work. I went to try and restore the backup it created, but appearently the md5sum is bad. Any suggestions on getting auto rotate back?

Did you flash a rom? If so which one?
Rooting does not change recovery or convert anything.

Still on stock, I followed the directions on putting cwm on it, then I flashed voodoo through odin. I flashed kashmeks oc kernel.
Sent from my SPH-P100 using Tapatalk

Now you have cwm installed I would suggest flashing a rom / kernal package. Roto full v4 first maybe then overcome 1.3.0
Assuming you have a euro compatible tab.
Backups fail via nandroid using voodoo..

Can not restore my phone

I want to preface this by saying I have spent 4 hours trying to recover my phone and I have tried all the things suggested in the treads, including what worked for me last time.
I installed a kernal for using the buttons backlighting for notifications which apparently works on the Fascinate. My phone never rebooted from that. I tried to install Clockwork and install an update.zip or an old restore file and it would not read off my SD properly/was not effective. I then tried using Odin to flash over the system, kernal, and recovery. Still no dice. I formatted my sd and tried to install clockwork again and everytime I try to access it through installing update.zip it says that signature verification failed and the installation is aborted and does not even reach clockwork.
I hope someone can help me. I have tried everything I can think of and have had zero luck.
PS: Currently my phone will show SAMSUNG but keep looping
Did you have voodoo on your phone before you flashed the kernel?

No, I was running a deoxed .4 rom
Are you installing clockwork through Odin? I have had problems with getting clockwork to work if I installed it any other way. It should work through Odin tho - also was the kernel you flashed with the backlight notification the voodoo one or non-voodoo?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Also did you try wiping data? Even if you can't get into clockwork you can do it from the Samsung recovery. I would try that and then do all the Odin recovery stuff again and see if that helps - but if you flashed the voodoo kernel you will have to go thru the post on completely removing voodoo.

I am installing through Odin. I don't know any other way to do it. I installed the non-voodoo one.
I installed this one since I heard it worked on our phone as well...

I have wiped every data thing you can think of several times. And do you think it would hurt for me to try to remove voodoo even if I don't think I flashed that kernal
I'm hoping someone more experienced than me will take this one - I'm not sure if that backlight notification you flashed is compatible with the fascinate. That could be your problem. Can anybody else jump in here?

You flashed a i9000 kernel onto your Fascinate. Ay caramba.
DON'T FLASH NON-FASCINATE ROMS ONTO YOUR FASCINATE
Anyway, I can't think of anything except trying to flash the Fascinate CWM kernel back onto your phone again with Odin.
edit -- FYI, the only BLN kernels any Fascinate owner should be flashing are the ones from jt1134, available only via ROM Manager

Figured as much... I read it worked and that is why I installed. Hopefully I can get a fix. Maybe I should do adb?

Where is the ec05 ota saved in my epic

Today I got a message to reboot and install the mr4 ec05. I reboot the phone but the cwm2 gave a installation error. That is suppose to be a file/files. Where I can find it in the phone and how can I try to install it again?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
You're not going to be able to install the OTA no matter how many times you try since you're using clockworkmod.
Texted while driving
I dont try to flash it, the phone just start in cwm. Btw I'm running eb13 if it helps
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Ok ok... reading a little it show that I need to remove the cwm so how I do that? And then how can I start the process again? (Using the already downloaded ec05).

yup and it wouldnt work, it kept telling me it failed, other people are telling me i have to repartition my phone and that i need a pit file but when i asked where do i get it they just told me to look for, i have been and i been at this for 4 hours now.
Did you re flash the old original recovery? Because there wouldn't be a failed error in the original one....

well i tried everything and somehow i got it to boot up again, but....no wifi or 3g network works, so im guessing the radio file got deleted, is there a way to fix that or am i screwed
hardware version i400.0.6
model number SHC-I400
Firmware version 2.1-update1
baseband version S:i400.0.6v.DL17
kernel version 2.6.29
SHC-I400.DJ20
Yup, that's normal... re flash the cwm recovery through imnuts guide, and restore your backup
If you don't have one, then flash the DL17 clean rom...
Your radio is fine, btw xD
Oh, and also btw, be honest... After you followed the magical guide to the T, was that what you thought got it to work, or did you try something else in between? if you did something else, then I'll add it to the magical fix post xD thanks in advance

i dont think my radio is fine anymore, i was too impatient that i flashed the dl09 radio.
well i did alot, i cant really tell you what i did in exact order because there was too much at 4 in the morning after working on this for 6 hours but here we go:
odin cwm recovery
used new update.zip from cwm forum
tried flashing adryns rom and imnuts kernel
tried flashing dj20 system and kernel
fixed permissions
tried nandroid restore
used "magical fix"
had to reinstall my drivers for samsung because of magical fix
repartition device via odin
reflashed dj20 system and kernel via odin
radio file not working so i flashed dl09(because i was too impatient and panicking)
turned on, set up phone, turn off, download mode,
odin cwm recovery with former update.zip
cwm flashed adrynalynes rom and peanutbutterjelly kernel
rebooted, then rebooted back to recovery,
restored nandroid backup
phone works once again
i do not know if that helps, well thats all i did, and i believe it was it that order
You officially just tbagged your self now when it comes to updates xP
I told you nothing was wrong with the modem
Yes, a fascinate modem might work on our phone, but Now if we get an update, your not going to be able to flash it xP lol...
if this doesn't bother you, that's okay xD but if it does, there might be something you can do (aka... Pm me xP)
Sent from my Continuum
I know! Ahhh! I read that right after I had already flashed the radio. It kind of does bother me so I, pm'd you

You'll be able to flash an update via Clockwork when a ROM is created so I wouldn't worry too much.

Not unless someone modifies the update xD all you would have to do though is delete the modem-delta file xD

Not so random reboots

I updated to EI22, stock w/OTA update. I then rooted and things were working great. Then about 1 week ago, I did a CWM backup and when I restarted the phone just kept automatically rebooting approx. every 3 -4 minutes. I could not stop it no matter what I did. Then I restored the backup and it worked fine. A few days later, I turned the power off to put in a my extra battery, and when I turned it on, the same thing happened. I had to restore twice fir it to stop this time. Then this morning, I did a reboot to see what would happen, and again it happened. Mind you it was working flawless before I restarted it. I have tried everything from removing programs, turning off the wifi, leaving the battery out for a half hour, but nothing. Sometimes after it reboots, I leave it alone for 15 minutes and then when I hit the power button, it just restarts.
Any ideas before I put back froyo??
Sounds like a bad flash. I would Odin all the way to Stock EC05 then root then flash a Gingerbread ROM. Your error is either in the kernel or recovery to happen immediately after boot. It could even be a flaky partition table.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
OK. Funny, I flashed backed to a stock EC05 and did the OTA update so as to possible avoid any problems like this.

I figured that but the problem may lie in the rooting which required you to flash a kernel or in your recovery module.

Your not alone on this issue. I am also considering going back to froyo
ADW was nice enough to bring up a crash report that I emailed myself. In the stack trace I see that android Package manager has died as a cause of the exception. I am not a java programmer so am at a loss here to what's happening.

So I flashed to the ACS ICS rom and so far no problems. What a great ROM!! Many thanks to Marcusant and ACS.

don't use the OTA.
just root ec05, flash CWM 5, flash modem update ec05 to EI22, flash a rom of your choosing. it's that simple. i don't see why people go the OTA route. it just causes problems with the recovery.
EDIT: also if you want Rom manager, check the kernel(or rom) for compatibility.
Why use ROM MANAGER at all? All the same tasks can be done from Clockwork Mod directly?

It was not supported for the Epic before but with the new CWM5 it is. It is much faster to boot into recovery from ROM Manager rather than powering down and 3 fingering into it. Plus ROM Manager supports renaming your backups when you are doing them. Also ROM Manager will continuously update your CWM if new versions come out. There is also OTA updates available if the developer supports it on their ROM.

Samsung OTA update download location?

So I rooted my P6010 and installed CWM but now I'm checking for updates in anticipation of ICS (fingers crossed any day now) and I get an update (stability 17.08MB) but it won't apply as there's no stock recovery installed.
Everything it reboots to try to opens CWM obviously about to apply but can't...
No sign of a downloaded update in the obvious places.
Where do the Samsung OTAs download to?

You can flash the stock recovery back. Get your stock rom, extract the recovery.img
Make a uncompressed tar with just recovery.img in it. Then flash this tar with odin (in the pda)
Tip: dont use 7-zip to build the tar, it just wont work. You should use linux or busybox tar in your tab to create it.
This way you can switch between cwm and stock recovery as necessary.
Thanks for your help. I'm aware of this and I realise I could do this but it's a lot of hassle when I'd prefer to investigate the option of just flashing the OTA using CWM. I just need to find out where the damn file is!

When I try
reboot fota
from a terminal as root, I get a log dumped in /cache/fota
It looks like its looking in multiple locations for a directory tmp_sec_fota.
I dont have any updates, so it all fails, but maybe a clue?
I had a good look around but can't seem to be able to find anything. Shame.
I pulled this screenshot from CWM logs and there's a lot of reference to fota but everywhere I look there's no file even approaching 17MB.
Now I have a real problem because the Tab is my only device apart from a Galaxy Nexus so I don't think I can get a copy of stock recovery. I can flash as I've got MobileOdin though. I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle to do all of this for the OTA or if I should just wait for a version I can flash with CWM.
I only really rooted to sort the rw problem out with my 64GB MSD, if Samsung had have been better devastating I wouldn't have had to.

Those partitions in your photo are not correct for a p6810. You must have the wrong cwm installed.
/system is on /dev/block/mmcblk0p8
on my device, and your data and preload are wrong as well.
Where did you get the cwm. Could you be using one for the p6800? It has different partitions.
See the 7.7 development thread for one suited to the p6810.
Be very careful what operations you select if you have wrong cwm!
Also, any backups you have previously made (with the wrong cwm) should probably be discarded, as the data files will be misnamed/incorrect contents.
I got it from the P6010 CWM thread...? Strange.
I've discarded it and moved back to stock, ran the updates and everything works well now. Ran into some minor permissions stuff with modin but sorted it with removal from such app.
I think a lot of people are going to bump into these problems when ICS hits if they're running CWM.
