[Q] Does xoom upscale froyo apps - Xoom General

Hi folks,
I am looking to buy xoom but as per my preception , all non-optimized apps will look small in xoom and honeycomb won't upscale it to match screen size?
Is it the fact or is there any settings which could enable upscaling ?
Thanks in advance for your input
-Sunny

Download the app called Spare Parts from the app store and switch the computability mode in the settings.

Also to answer your original question, most apps scale for the zoom, I find that very few actually don't scale. Of course this is in mg own experience so it depends on what u are using.

Apps reflow depending on the screen size where it's displayed. Depending on the app that will happen different because of the way the devloper created the application.

XDA android app text size

Does anyone find that the text size on this app too small even on the Streak screen?
Its there a way of zooming into the text or just making the text larger as sometimes it is tiny even on here.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Thats odd that they don't have a text size option in the settings.
What rom are you on?
See if the app "Spare Parts" is on your phone, if not enable engineering mode (in the wiki, and a thread in the forum for engineering mode on froyo) and open up spare parts.
In there theres an option to increase the Font size, but its system wide, not just specific to xda app
If you have trouble enabling engineering mode, some guy put spare parts on the market and added ads (making money off something he didn't create...) you can grab it from there as well.
Good Luck
I have spare parts on this phone Dj Steves 1.51 rom and have put text to largest but screen text in this app is still tiny

I spoke yesterday with the Tapatalk coder and he said that it's being implemented and it's in the next release.
That will be great as its daft to have such a big screen with tiny text

LCD Density and Scaling...

Many apps/games have no problem auto-scaling, but some of the most used apps/games on my phone just don't play well with my 190 density. Is there any way to force scaling or would I just have to resort to begging the app developers to implement a fix? I love my 6 rows of space, using LPP, and would hate going back to the ugly 800x600 Windows PC look lol

Don't mean to thread-jack, but I'm assuming you are using a ROM that has a different dialer than stock? Otherwise, can you tell me how you got it to work with a different density? TIA
In Spare Parts (comes with most custom ROMs, or download from market) at the bottom uncheck the "Compatibility Mode" option. Reboot your phone.

[Q] Is there an app....

Is there an app that will automatically resize pictures to fit the home screen DX?
Good question?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
It wouldn't work. Android forces a certain aspect ratio for backgrounds. This is because of scrolling homescreens.

Wallpaper quality very poor. Need a little help.

So any time I try to set a "HD" image as a wallpaper, it blurs and zooms in way too much. I've noticed this is a common issue with honeycomb tablets and have tried the "tricks" to get around it, but no luck. I know you can set wallpapers to look correct as I've seen the screenshots. Any tips on getting this done as the stock wallpapers just don't cut it?

What dimensions and resolution are the images you are trying to use?

Been trying 1920x1408 as I've read that was the optimal resolution with the way honeycomb crops wallpaper images. Some look halfway decent, most just look awful. And honestly not sure image dimensions. Just been googling HD images

Search "Multipicture live wallpaper" in your market app.
It will set your images up correctly no matter what resolution they are (provided they aren't super low-res). It's a free app.
Once installed, it comes up as a choice in your regular wallpaper settings.
Sorry, I can't post links up, or I would link directly to the app.
Also, if you have a little photoshop beginning skills, you can make a template where you can overlay your image as a layer, and see exactly where things need to be moved.
When you set wallpaper from Gallery, they use a sizable template, so it will give you a good idea of what the parameters are.

Thanks. I got that and tried. While it does keep the whole image and leaves it without distortion, it is framed inside a black box. But it's better than before lol. Thanks a lot for the suggestion.

Saw this as an option as well by others. Very little Photoshop skills, but I can learn lol. I'd like to use some of the different pics I find and this seems like the best alternative to still be able to use most of the image. Thanks

Yeah, I think I'll try and make a template when I get some free time.
There was a guy who had one a long time ago, in the themes section, but the link to download was broken (he had it on megaupload), and I looked and seems he deleted the thread a week or so ago. Link didn't work, but it had an image of how the template looked (similar when you choose wallpaper from gallery)
I can tell you some things.
1. keep it as a psp so you can keep the layers
2. Remember, it will have several layers. Overall size, portrait, and landscape.
3. Use a different color and transparency for each layer.
4. Also, don't forget the top, bottom, and side borders.
5. Use your image as a new layer, and move it to the back of the template, do you can see what parts are going to be shown in both portrait and landscape. Then you can resize and move around the layer as needed.

Thank you very much for the help. I'll give this a whirl as soon as I can get back to my laptop and have a chance to teach myself a little. I've found a somewhat decent alternative in the meantime, Wallpaper Wizardii. It's not perfect, but it is by far the best results other than making my own. Oh and nice ROM by the way. Thanks for your hard work.

Another great tool that will work for this purpose is Wallpaper Wizardii. It's free and is not a live wallpaper. Lots of options... In your case you should choose the "scale" option if you decide to try the app.

DPI adjustments

Hey everyone,
Was wondering if anyone had tested various DPI settings and have a list of working ones?
Gui on this phone is way to large.

I've tried several: 280, 300, 320, 360, 400 & 420...all worked fine but you'd see issues in certain apps, and certain apps would jump into tablet mode (pretty sure that was on the lower ones, of course).
I stuck on 420 since it still shrinks things considerably down from the stock 480 but most apps don't have overlapping or other issues. The only app I've noticed an issue is the dialer, but not the phone on inbound or ongoing calls, just when you are dialing the number. You can still see the numbers and hit each with no problem, it's just shrunk up a little strangely. Other than that I'm loving 420 (no pun intended ). :good:
Awesome. What are you using to change dpi? On my note 2 with exposed you were able to choose dpi per application, anyone know if the module is working for that?
Can't remember the name of the mod.

Found it.
In downloads, app settings. If you use this you can modify only apps you want so you don't have to worry about compatibility or force closing system gui.
I set Novo launcher lower and a few other apps.

Update:
I changed the system ui to 420, along with Novo(remove shadow from desktop), and messaging and it looks perfect.
Fyi this doesn't break or distort the phone app.

Thanks for mentioning that module. I hadn't taken the time to look through all the options as I downloaded and set up a ton through Wanam's module and was pretty satisfied. Really glad you mentioned it so I can get the one wrinkle ironed out. Appreciate it bro!
If anyone plays around with SystemUI DPI and sees it kick into tablet mode with the bottom navigation bar please do tell which DPI setting!

I read in other threads that you were really interested in getting the bottom bar style tab mode going, and I know I mentioned tablet mode above in my response but that was only in apps, the System UI never changed...and I believe the person who responded to you in the other thread is correct - 4.3 android doesn't have that built in to the system UI as an option.
For example, before my Note 3 I had an Nexus 4 and was running Paranoid Android - the developers had to basically make tablet mode from scratch to keep the traditional bottom bar style going after 4.3. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I thought you should know. Of course somebody could endeavor to build it like PA did or we could get PA at some point but without that I doubt you'll find your holy grail anytime soon.
Also guys you'll want the play store fix. Play store by default will his apps based on your dpi, This mood will fix that.

Yeah, I use either 320 or 360 mostly when I want to change an app. 320 can be a little bit too small sometimes, but right around that zone I think is ideal. Though I really haven't changed a ton of apps, mostly System, Chrome, reddit, Facebook, XDA, Go SMS that I can think of off the top of my head.

Agreed, though I went as low as 360 for System, just because I wanted notifications to be shorter in the pull down so I can see more. I usually have several persistent ones in there now, so I want to be able to see all of my actual notifications as well.
See attached for notification size @ 360 dpi.
