The force close of death - Nexus S General

Has anyone else had any force-close issues lately? I don't mean a simple force close, but an overclock-style cascading barrage of force closes. I ran into this the other day for no reason. Granted, I'm OC'd to 1.2ghz, but I had been running rock solid for 2+ months with no issues. I've backed down to 1ghz for the moment, but was curious if anyone else has had this issue with CM7 lately?

like this, lol? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xf-p_anYMVM
that usually happens if something corrupted or isnt compatable.

I've had it happen.. but that happens when something is REALLY messed up.
To fix:
A) Try fixing permissions; doesn't work?
You have to wipe dalvik, cache, and factory and reflash ROM
or restore a nandroid backup

Same here, happened once before. It just "magically" happened. I reflashed the rom and that seemed to have fixed it. Never had the problem again.

[Q] Lockscreen Reboot Issues

I've been having lockscreen reboot issues with the last few Fission roms, and a couple of Matt's. Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it?
I followed the installation instructions and even formatted my SD card. I'm going to try to SBF before I install the next Fission, is there anything else I can do to completely clean out my phone? Such as wiping some system files in recovery or something.
The only data I have left over from other ROMs is backups I made of a few games like Angry Birds.
Any suggestions are appreciated, I've been trying to fix this issue for awhile!
Are you doing a hard reset after flashing roms? Resetting the phone in applications>privacy, at the bottom of privacy?

Yup, after installing the ROM and rebooting I do a hard reset through the privacy menu. Would it make a difference if I sign into my google account on first reboot before doing the hard reset?

I never sign into google until after the hard reset. But I dont know if that matters. Next time you flash a rom, try wiping data and cache in recovery, after flashing, but before you reboot. And, are you overclocking or undervolting?
I'll try wiping data and cache before my first reboot. I know I used to do this but not sure if I've done it recently.
I haven't messed with overclocking or underclocking. Do you know if any widgets are known to cause problems? I run Launcher Pro, but I went a day or two with the stock launcher and still had some reboot issue.

Launcherpro wouldnt cause it. I would sbf if i were you, and just keep doing what your doing. After so many flashes there is bound to be some residual bs left behind.
*Fission 2.2.1 will be hitting the forum soon so an sbf is in your best interest Im running it now and its VERY good...

I'll give SBF a try. I've been loving everything about the fission ROMs, can't wait to get 2.2.1
Thanks so much for the help!

Lock Screen Reboots are something that seem to be present in all these Moto Droid phones. I always always always get them on both D1 and Dx and D2, with any ROM, theme, etc. Just seems to be a common problem Motorola has, along with their insane fascination with their Motoblur UI which is also a complete mystery.

Personally I had a Droid 1 for 6 months and don't remember having any lockscreen reboots, at least not at the frequency of 2-3 a day that I'm having now. Could run the phone for a week without rebooting.
There were a couple of D2 roms that didn't have the reboot issue for me, but most do so maybe it is an issue with the phone like you say. I Don't understand their persistance with motoblur either At least take out eFuse if you're going to throw on motoblur
I've been trying lockbot free to solve my reboot issues. You can basically set it to be exactly the same the normal lockscreen, and so far it seems to be working for me.
I had this problem. Random, intermitten soft reboots during slide to unlock. Ran multiple roms, always had the problem. But I was always removing the same things after sbf. I had found one Dev to seem to find this to follow the music.apk file. So this time I left it on. On my last sbf, I left that in there. Havent had a problem since. Before that I had tried what I thought to be everything, multiple sbfs, multiple roms, completely formatted sd card, and re-sbf'd again. But I always deleted music.apk. Because it always seems to start running, using memory that I thought was unnecessary. Since I dont play music from my phone, other then streaming music. Hope that helps someone. Saved a ton of frustration for me!

Which music.apk is this? Is it the D2's original application or the google music app? Because I've never taken the music app that's been on the phone or came with any ROM and I've had a few not a big number but a few.

Not sure what the google music one is, but the file is named music.apk
Please clarify this lol. Mine was working great until I installed that damn black theme for fission rom.
I've had a droid1 and I have never had reboot issues with roms before. I think it may just be a d2/x problem
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Yeah the same thing happens to me. I'm pretty sure the dev's for Fission know about it, so hopefully 2.2.1 from them fixes it.

I had this same problem until yesterday. I installed the Music.zip that came with fission. Now I haven't had a single problem. (I also installed the 10 percent framework and the Camera.zip) I can't remember who posted it but once I installed the Music.zip everything works great.
Im just curious, are you guys only experiencing these reboots with the non-blur roms, or have you experienced them with other roms also? I have only had one reboot, and that was running fission 2.2.1.

Was it the "Android_Music.zip" or "D2_Music.zip"?

games going to the pause screen for unknown reason

first off, I'm running stock EC05, rooted
Problem:
yesterday my Epic started jumping to the pause screen while I was playing Collapse! which I had gotten off of the Amazon App market, at first I thought it might be the hardware fault when the back button presses automatically, but it wasn't as it continued to do it without the haptic feedback or blinking, so I ruled that out and tried reinstalling
unfortunately it continued, so I though it might be a bad download that needs an update on the market, so I uninstalled and decided to play Robot Unicorn Attack which I got off the Android Marketplace, however it does the same thing, right in the middle of gameplay, it will jump to the pause screen
so now I thought it might be some other app that I updated that is causing some kind of interference with the system, so I uninstalled all apps that had been updated or installed over the past 2 or 3 days, the problems remains
I tried Fruit Ninja from that Amazon App Store as well, same problem, I'm really not sure what is wrong as there had been no problems with any of the games before yesterday, I also did a scan for malware just for kicks but nothing showed up
when I tired searching for people with similar problems, the closest I found was someone who was having what seemed like an identical problem on a Galaxy S Tab, any help that doesn't require a complete rom flash would be awesome
thanks!

The only thing I can suggest is going into Clockwork and clearing data and Dalvik cache. Sounds like some data corruption somewhere if you are running stock with no overclocking or undervolting which usually causes this kind of behavior.
Are you running an overclocked kernel? I have a similar problem with Words With Friends whenever I'm running an overclocked kernel. If I disable overclocking and reboot, the problem goes away.

His OP said he was running stock. Switch to Word feud, you can overclock all you want and still run Adfree.

I will give it a shot and let you know how it goes
question though, can I restore anything from my Titanium Backup? or would that just bring the problem back once it was restored?

Was it OK when you did the backup? If so you can certainly try. Just to clarify you are on full stock, just rooted?
Do you BONSAI?
I'm at sprint right now returning a completely stock refurb they gave me. Apps are randomly opening and backing out of themselves

custom rom to fix force closes?

So I've been having a decent number of force closes from apps like the browser and facebook recently. I've also noticed how the transformer is starting to slow down after being on for a while and requires a restart. In some games like glow hockey the screen someimes gets messed up in rotation too. Would installing primordial solve any of these issues? And i guess in general, are there any tangible benefits to running a custom rom on the transformer besides the knowledge of having a custom rom?

I dont feel slow down with my tf, but i recently get alot of force close with stock browser.
I'd probably do a factory reset first (this wipes the device, so save anything you need first).
And then slowly start reinstalling the apps you need.
Sometimes just the factory reset might fix whatever was going on. Other times it could of been something you installed that is causing problems with everything else.

Yes...this is the first step...SOMETHING is causing the TF to run as not designed.

Are you overclocked?
Whatever this is, it's definitely a hardware issue, not SW

no not overclocked. root is only changes from stock
whatever it is it's only effecting 5 apps, TB , a task killer. rarely.
3 games quite often.
i dont get it. strange
Thinking about flashing ICS or tiamatxoom on this sucker.
while back i got a permissions changing app, because i got alittle tired of so many apps self starting , the app mentioned that certain permission changes could possibly damage my os. Is this true?
also noticed that the ota nagging has stopped
Flash ICS, definitely. But undoing the permissions changes might be the answer. If it was in permissions denied, I know sometimes that can cause problems. Using autostarts has never caused this issue for me.
Yes!
IML77 cured all, and im loving ICS

launcher force closes

so lately, the last week or two i've been getting alot(basically constantly...) launcher freezes/force close, on both the stock and nova launcher. I've cleared cache on both, multiple reboots cleared data and updated nova once with no real long term fix. I am completely stock/unrooted with .30 firmware. Has anyone else had anything like this and what if anything worked to fix it? or any ideas what is causing it? thanks.

It's been a bug that makes the launcher not respond since 2 updates ago for me. I keep hitting wait when the fc box shows up and of course if you it wait, the launcher doesn't show back up. I'm rooted but still on stock. I've been waiting for a stable jb rom to switch to because Asus seems to ignore this problem.
good to know...one more reason against my shrinking list of reasons why i haven't unlocked yet...
