I thought "H" stood for "3G" on the Streak? Here the last few days I've noticed that it shows "3G" alot, often changing back and forth even with a full signal. I haven't changed ROM's or noticed any difference in performance. Just curious.
Thanks in advance.

3g usually means UMTS or higher
H means HSPA
HSPA > UMTS in speed
not all roms display H, it's '3g' speeds, but faster than UMTS
it doesnt change how it's connected, only what is shown on the statusbar
Think of H as 3.5G, faster than 3G but not as fast as 4G.

as you can see the part below is not well made but there is a remedy? : (
did you every find the answer to this one. I'd like to improve signal quality too.
Changing radio has been known to improve signal, GPS fix and sometimes battery strength. Follow this guide on how to change battery
I've just got out of this, whenever I was in my flat, signal was only 1 bar, sometimes lost. I tried this and wow it worked, here's what you can try: open Comm manager, go to Phone setting, select Band (change base band), select the network type GSM instead of Auto, then set Band Frequency to GSM (900+1800)+UMTS(2100+900) instead of Auto. It seemed that Auto select caused this low signal.
i change the radio and very best signal detection
Is anyone all of the sudden seeing a 3g icon in there status bar or is this a feature of cyanogenmod?

I noticed this last night. All I get right now is 3G I havent done a speed test yet though.
It's a feature of Cyangenmod. Stock ROM gives H for UMTS (3G) and HSDPA (H) connections. CyanogenMod differentiates between the two.
And u will see bouncing between 3g and H when in an area with HSPA. This is because your phone will only use hspa when it is needed. Stock it does it too but keeps one symbol.

What is the 3G chipset used?
The Mobile Broadband module used is a quad band GSM, dual band UMTS (3G) Ericsson F3307 F3307_screen.pdf (PDF, 112KB, pp2) PCI-E module, which supports the 850/900/1800/1900 GSM bands and either 850/1900 or 900/2100 UMTS bands. The two 3G versions of ADAM available are for either Europe/Australia/Asia (900mhz UMTS) or for the Americas (850mhz UMTS).
Does this mean the unit can be either or? I assume so..
Next question would be, could be toggled between? If it can, will a user be able to toggle it? Or could be made to by some brave knowledgeable programmer?

EDIT: This may have been answered for me. I think I was confusing the GSM bands and the UMTS bands.. darn
mine just sticks to 4G.
3G still switches between H and H+ when in use.
My friends Note 2 changes between 4G and LTE when in ise
I've never seen mine show "LTE"... When I set the network to "4G/3G/2G (auto connect)" I lose network for a second then I get "E" -> "3G" -> "H+" then I get "4G".
4G speeds are noticably quicker that H+. I'm clearly using something quicker than HSPDA, thats for sure

On Samsung touchWiz Rom, I get '4g' displayed. On the google edition Rom, I get 'LTE' displayed.

Its not about signal. I can't see Band 40 on my network at all. It uses it. Only bands I am getting on this phone are Band 3 and 7. My network supports Band 1,3,7,8,40. And 28 (not supported by Redmi 3S).
