Last week I flashed a CWM package to enable init.d support which for some reason caused the table to take an extra 30 seconds to boot... double the usual time. Today I wanted to flash my old CWM backup to get back my 30 second boot time but during the restore process it crapped out and said couldn't restore /data. It did restore some of the /data. I wiped the /data partition and just reinstalled the newest Overcome rom the cwm zip again. When it rebooted, I got the weird issue of having the home soft button do nothing. It won't bring you back to the desktop and long holding it doesn't bring you to the task manager. Thinking this is a rom issue, I flashed galaxytask rom which surprisingly had the same issue. I thought I'd make a last ditch effort to have everything fixed and flash UEKMM through odin. Surprise, surprise it still has the same issue... even after an odin flash. Another side effect is that the power off menu only gives me poweroff, reboot, recovery, download mode when using a custom rom or only poweroff if using the odin flash. These reduced poweroff menu options seem to be present independent of the rom. Can anybody help me? I'd really like to have the home button working again. I tried everything: odin, wipe data, wipe /system... and every other combo in between.
Do the restore overcome from their "restore yer tab" section. You should then be OK and able to start from scratch. I've seen it work miracles on my own and many others tabs. make sure you follow every step and instruction they say with Odin to get it perfect.
Let us know how it turns out.

Funny you should mention that. I actually read over their section of returning to stock (not word for word as I WAS panicking) when I noticed they reflashed to stock using a pit file. I found that pit file on the internet and reflashed stock uekmm with the P4_16G_32G.pit file and it's working now.
Sweet.... always good to hear.
I've pretty much been there done that so I kinda thought you were just missing something not perfectly obvious. I've suggested that method to many people after I was in a panic and someone directed me there and I was able solve what I thought was a fully bricked tab.
Thanks for letting me know.

If your talking to me, yes I do, but not using a pit file in Odin. I actually define it as a system wipe though it's a step suggested in the op of every ROM I've ever flashed.

Are you referring to QBKing and Sock Monkeys instructions? I bought a tab off craigslist and it seems the home, back and multi taks buttons when holding it in proper orientation are not working. I used QBKing and Sock Monkeys instructions/files to restore to stock and they still are not functioning. If you have a link to something else I'd love to give it a shot.
Really frustrated with myself for not checking that everything was okay with the tab before buying it since it was a craigslist deal. This might end up being a pretty expensive mistake.

Oddly, and sorry for going a bit off topic in the thread...I just flashed one of the CM9 builds and now all is fine...so strange, but I'm elated!

No. I'm referring here to the Overcome ROM thread and the links from it to an outside guide. Then on the outside page of instructions down the page it says restore yer tab. Its helped me and many others I've sent there. Don't have a link handy, but it doesn't look like you need it now anyway.
Glad you got it going.

Ok folks,
I'm having a hell of a time with my phone.
No matter what rom I flash, seems to have issues from lockups to reboot.
I have tried every kind of wipe in CWM, inluding making sure I have the latest version of CWM and modem, same.
Is there a way to TOTALLY wipe everything on the phone and go back to true factory default, even as far as the phone number programming? Like it was when it came from Splint?
(Yes, I'd then want to unlock with Odin and put a new ROM).
Thanks much!

I want no trace of any setting, rom, nothing left except a brand new spankin phone.

Yes it will put the phone back to when you took it out of the box..I think he means that if you have any files that you downloaded to the internal storage ie pics, music, contacts things like that they won't be touched.
Just download the Odin file and the Sprint file which is the stock software the phone came with and use is procedure.
Just to worn you The Sprint file is large and will take awhile to download to your comp
Get the full mf9 tar.md5. Remove sd card. Flash with pc Odin. After phone boots up to home screen and settles down, don't set up anything. Go into settings, accounts, backup, then do full factory reset with wipe of internal storage. After it reboots and settles down again, you're completely back to stock. No need to wipe your phone number and associated settings. If it were me, I'd stay away from custom roms if they're giving you nothing but problems.

That's what I did just rooted the mf9 and got rid of all the bloat. No problems to speak of..
Not to be unappreciative, but, w/o a reset all the data was still there.
Which makes me nervous wondering if there is some crap left over.
Yes, I realize a wipe will get rid of the apps but I want to make sure I'm truly starting from point 0.

So if you are on MF9 good luck with going back to stock everything. Because the methods mentioned above don't get rid of the MF9 Firmware just the Build. Also You have use triangle away which only works on MDC and MDL to get to fully clean stock. Everything mentioned in this thread will not do what you want if you are wanting it out of the box like new condition.

Running an Australian N9005.
I was running Temaseks unofficial CM11 build just fine. Got bored and wanted to go back to a more Samsung styled phone.
Decided to flash X-Note. As I'd used it before CM11. It worked fine then.
Attempted to flash X-Note but it wouldn't boot, stuck at initial screen with the Kernel warnings at the top of the screen. Was told it was because I hadn't got the new 4.4 bootloader.
I was told to follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46223545&postcount=2
Which I did.
Using these download links and instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49931269
That fixed the boot issue. I suppose I'm not on the 4.4 bootloader.
However when I booted up the stock Polish ROM, the initial Samsung Setup Wizard would crash at the end of the setup and force me back to the start of the setup. Tried ignoring it and just flashing the custom recovery and then XNote. Same issue, the setup wizard in XNote crashes as well.
Someone then told me I should try repartitioning the device using a PIT. I don't know what that is, but it was suggested.
Using this ROM: https://mega.co.nz/#!QVwlVDgJ!QyAxmDMcsIA-56cX_28Ua2aPZLcJATVvdM07LOs0V10
And this PIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50614669&postcount=77
Completes successfully.
Same issue............... That being a third separate ROM (official? at that)....
Samsung Setup Wizard crashes...
I even tried flashing XNote and removing the setup wizard just to get past it. That fixes it for about 10 minutes or so. After about 10 minutes of use the phone freezes and I have to hold the power button to force it to restart. If I leave the phone off, it still freezes, as soon as I try to unlock it it freezes and need to force restart.
I really don't know what to do now... Any help guys? I'm trying my best here...
Please, if you need any more information, please ask.
Might not help, but have you wiped your phone clean using custom recovery ( data, cache, dalvik, internal sd ) before flashing xnote or factory reset on recovery when on stock?
Do you have reactivation lock enabled?

Yes indeed. I'm very confused...
So... I don't want to get ahead of myself, but my phone seems to have sorted itself out...
I decided to just send it back to the carrier to get it replaced. So I decided to just flash the official Firmware again. (I accidentally left repartition ticked)
Once it started I thought... Oh ****... But I was sending it back anyway so who cares. (the carrier said they will just swap it for me if they can see it not working)
So I let it finish and turn it on to see what happens, run through the setup to make sure it still crashes at the same spot so I can show them... and it doesn't crash... wtf?
So I flash the custom recovery and XNote... And it seems to be working now. Now freezing, no nothing... I... I don't know...
Crazy, least it appears somewhat sorted lol

Just out of curiosity, as I see you have an AU model, did you buy it from Kogan? -- Reason I ask is that they used HK firmware on some models and HK models have issues flashing normal firmware (similar to the issue you had)

So here we go again...
I tried using Odin to get back to stock but, Odin just kept crashing
every time I tried loading the 'MD5' file. I tried multiple versions as well..
Then I realized even though the computer would say Odin was
'Not Responding' I continued to wait, and finally it loaded the MD5!
So I went ahead and tried going back to stock, but when I did
every stock MD5 file causes my device to close
Google Play, Google Location, and SystemUI rapidly...
I was able to get my original Recovery in there and restore a backup,
but I'd really like to try and go back to stock for a bit and start fresh.
What the heck in the world is going on with my phone?!
I thought Odin was my safety net, here to help me, but
instead I'm getting more and more hassle trying to get it workin'...
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!!
Just tried flashing MK6 using Odin
(MK6 came on my phone originally)
and I get the same issue..
Everything I try ends up failing..

So the flash was successful but when booting up u get FC's correct? If that is the case then I would guess it's because u didn't wipe data/factory reset preflash. Doing this from recovery should solve ur problem if I understood u right

So Odin doesn't wipe / factory reset
on its own?
The first time I forgot to wipe but
every other time Im sure I wiped in
recovery before hitting up download
mode.
I did make a ROM using NC1
firmware and added KT kernel to
it. The ROM was a dud and that's
why I wanted a fresh start.

The way I understand it there are 2 types of Odin flashable fws: full wipe and no full wipe. Full wipe fws are the ones that come in separate parts, i.e. BL, AP, CP etc. and no full wipe fws are the complete tar.md5 files. I recently went back to stock to get a fresh start as well and had the same issue with FC's on boot up. Factory reset fixed it

Ya that's what I used too. I just formatted all the individual partitions first using philz to be sure I got a clean start. Also, if u wanna try it, the leaked NC1 firmware that dropped right before the official OTA's came out, I think that was a 'full restore' fw as it came in 4 sections.

There is a boot.img inside the stock fw if I'm not mistaken, and that should overwrite anything you've done to /boot (where the kernel lives).
So if I understand this correctly I have a couple of options one of them being I do the full firmware update using the 4 files provided from the leak. Or somehow install the boot.img and that should fix the wifi drop issues?
Quick Sanity Check here. I mainly just want to confirm that I have all my ducks in a row before I pull the trigger on installing my first ROM on my 3 mo old S5. I have flashed ROMS in the past on other devices, but it has been 3 years or so, and then it was on the first day I got said device. I have been using my S5 for a few months now, and I don't want to lose any of my accumulated data. So here goes.
Running Stock 4.4.4 on G900V
I am Rooted via Towelroot, and I have installed Safestrap recovery. I also completed a Nandroid backup.
I completed a Titanium backup of all my apps and system settings just now.
I plan to flash the MOAR Rom to stock slot via Safestrap, and upon completion, do a restore from Titanium.
My hope is that by doing that, I will wind up with a custom ROM, but with all my contacts, sms messages, Apps and app settings, which is actually the entire point of this post.
Am I right in assuming that if I follow those steps, I should be good?
Your advice/confirmation/response will be appreciated!! Thanks!

Make sure to backup call log, and the sms in titanium as well. The easiest way to keep everything the same app and data wise is to wipe all partitions besides micro sd and data, and then flash do a slightly dirty flash. Thats what I did, and it worked just fine. Just make sure to back up, and after you flash, make sure to odin the oa8 kernel as well. Also make sure to flash the kernel before first boot. Btw my phone took a while to boot up, so dont be too worried if it takes longer than 5 minutes. Mine took like 10-15 minutes, and has been rock solid since. Hope this helps!

Thanks Thorkle! Are you sure I only need to flash OA8 Kernel? When I look at JKRuse's instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development/vzwstock-based-tw-rom-t3024731
It mentions that it is important to flash the entire firmware, not just the kernel...
"6. flash VZW_BOA8_RETAIL_FIRMWARE_ONLY.tar.md5 Make sure it is the retail firmware and not just the kernel"
Of course, the link that is provided to said firmware does not work, and I have not been able to find a working one on the net so far. Anyone who has a link to that firmware, please share...

Several people that have restored data, even in TIBU have run into problems. The suggested method is a full wipe and clean install. With that being said I resorted some data with TIBU and never had any issues.

So far it seems to be working very well for me. I only restored data from about 10-15 apps, none of which were red in TIBU. Messages, Contacts, email, etc.
So far, my phone feels much smoother than it did on 4.4.4. Battery life is good as well. I fell asleep with 55% last night, and about an hour after waking up this morning, I noticed I was at 51%. That is a marked improvement. Here is hoping that sentiment holds.
