According to specification Vega has projective capacitive multitouch panel. So the question is: how many simultaneous touches does the device support? Is it a real multitouch panel or just dualtouch?
I've testet this with a multitouch test app and it only recognize 2 points. If there are more then two fingers on the screen it doesn't respont to any movement.

its a 2 touch, dual-touch screen like all HTC phones (including nexus one) up to and including the Desire.
Yep only two. Shame, my HTC desire hd recognizes four.
Shame I was hoping to use all my fingers and toes.
is they any software or application which use more than 2 touches ?

multi touch is not sensitive at all because we don't have one. what we have is pinch to zoom capabilities. legend does not have true multi touch support.

Well, it has at least _some_ multitouch support. I can tell by trying Ethereal Dialpad with the nightsky skin. It clearly registers when I touch the screen with two fingers, although it is very far from perfect, and it's absolutely worthless when the fingers are close to each other or when you are moving them (some movements are fine, but sometimes it goes completely wrong, try it yourself to see what i mean).
Maybe there's better program to visualize multitouch, but I haven't seen any
EDIT: there are several program on the market that test multitouch, installing now (-:

I was messing around with maps tonight and was kind of shocked that it happens. I could not get it to work at all in 3d building mode. Or when zoomed in.
At about a city level zoom I can get it to spin. I do not have the hack that enables it either.
Very strange behavior/bug.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
True, albeit very poorly.
Indeed. I was shocked that it did it at all.
Its the screen bug of N1 not a bug in Gmaps. when you fingers are close it snaps in one line thats why rotate doesn't work well
they could have done it better. The optimus one can only detect 2 fingers as well and have the axis switching problem but you can rotate like 40 degrees.
The tweak that was around earlier did a far better job...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
It's not the screen bug. When this feature came out it was disabled on n1 due to the screen.

OK, they are both pretty bad, but I still preferred the tweaked method. At least I had some control over when I rotated, rather than it just happening when I'm trying to zoom or tilt...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Would be nice if they would give us some other control over the rotation, what about trackball rotation or dedicated rotate buttons? Nobody uses the trackball in maps anyway.
I'm confused, because rotate works almost perfectly on my N1 since 5.2.

Same here. Sure you don't actually rotate your fingers (you drag them) but it now works flawlessly and with better control.
Google enabled an alternative to rotate the map. Swiping two fingers horizontally will do the trick.
My phone language is Japanese. Apart from changes on check-ins, there was a note mentioning this feature when I first launched the Maps after updating to 5.2.
But on my friend's N1 (display language is English), it showed update notes on check-ins only. Didn't mention about rotating maps.
Yes that seems to be the case. I did not see that in the new in maps notes either on my English nexus one.
The two finger swipe actually does work really well. I did not even notice that until now. Just noticed the very weird two finger rotate by accident.

I just check the two fingers swipe. And it works. Not bad at all.

Part of the reason for me to root was multi touch. Is there a rom on that for play?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
The play has a 4-point multitouch screen and a 2-point touchpad. What do you mean that you rooted your phone for multi touch?

By multi touch I mean like on iPhone. Where you can use 2 fingers at the same time to type. If you use 2 thumbs on your plays keyboard your only clicking 1 and its messy

Actually I know what he means (after he explained).
On the iphone it types in the order you PRESS the letters.
On the xplay it types in the order you LIFT your fingers.
So if you press H E but lift the E finger before, it'll appear EH.
Hope that clears it up a little bit, I thought it was just me and I just tried to lift my fingers before pressing again, but checking on an iphone just now I realized it's easier over there. Perhaps it was just the heat of the moment haha.
Don't notice it that much because I use Swype.

Well then it looks like he needs a keyboard that supports multitouch. The xperia play supports multitouch already I personally use Swype keyboard but I don't use the slide part and not the tapping so I don't know if it works for you. Try out some android keyboards and see what you like.
But as said above the Xperia play can take up to 4 finger at a time and a developer is planning on expanding it up to 10.
Try this application it proves that the Xperia play supports 4 fingers.

This is not ios where you are locked to one single keyboard my friend

Swype is not on the market. Its here. Sign up and they will send you the download link. Takes a while to get used to but once you do it is way faster than normal typing.
Swype is far superior to a regular keyboard. One of the many reasons I prefer android to ios or blackberry.

I installed Swype. I had it on my x10 mini pro but I liked more to type with the physical keyboard.
Swype writes in the order you press (just like the iphone), and not in the order you lift (stock keyboard for us). It's weird because it's obvious that first key pressed should be written, stock keyboard is crazy lol

Oh I know but sometimes you need to type out the words if you know they wont be in the dictionary like codes, emails, passwords, etc.
The only thing I don't like is deleting words, it's very slow and if I press backspace a lot it goes slow and if I hit it too many times it will delete more than I wanted.
Hi. We PLAY users will maybe get the option to use the touchpad as a mouse MULTI TOUCH. Try Doomlords 4.0 leaked rom BUT NOT UPDATE ANYTHING. THEN YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN!

Touch pad as a mouse would be great on the browser imo.
Left stick for pointer and right stick for scrollilng, and obviously the face buttons for standard fuctions like X to select (left click), O as right click, square for stop/refresh page and triangle for back.
It would make selecting links so easy, and browsing far more enjoyable.

That would be nice, but I would prefer using the L and R buttons for selecting/right clicking.
The touchpad is a dual touch surface, so I would use dual swiping to scroll up and down, and single swiping to move the cursor around. The triggers can be used to go back and forward, the X button for selections, and the other 3 could be assigned to different functions (Bookmarks, Refresh, and Share).

ScummVM.
Try playing anything in ScummVM with the touchscreen, particularly pixel hunting puzzles. It's a nightmare. The whole time playing I think "I wish the touchpads could work as a mouse." This is a great development.

get those newer models that can even have 5 point touch functions
5? I'm reasonably sure it goes up to 20, although you'd never use that many.

Software isn't the problem, it's the hardware. Arguably the decision to have this hardware was based on the WinMo software which didn't use/support multitouch (not sure about that but I'm just guessing here) and HTC chose that they didn't need a particularly good screen.
