Hi all,
I'm very new in the Android world, so please reply as if i'm a complete bastard
I've got a Galaxy Apollo (i5800), without simlock, running Android 2.1 from Samsung (original rom).
Now I read many thing about roms, jpm, jpf, jpg, jpw, jpz, jpb, etcetera etcetera. Now I really don't know what these terms mean.
The only thing I know, is that I would like to try a good custom rom, with easy installation. Do you guys know about a very user/beginner friendly rom?
And also, do I have to root my phone before I'm able to install a custom rom?
Sorry for my bad english and poor knowledge.
Thanks in advance for your reply

Hello, welcome to the android world!
jpm, jpm, etc are firmware builds of android 2.2 (froyo)
All custom roms have easy installation (with odin).
You dont have to root your phone before installing a rom!
Kyrillos
Check out the Flashing Guide and Videos on Youtube. ..try InDroid Rom or Kyrillo or Lestat Rom..all are good...

What do you guys think about this rom? youtube.com/watch?v=NY1cySzOh0U
This rom is based on XXJPM.
Will it work on my i5800, currently firmware version: PDA:JG6 / PHONE:JG3 / CSC:JH2 (BSE), language: Dutch?
Will it be buggy, laggy? Will Samsung Kies still be able to detect my phone after flashing this rom?
And, when I don't like this rom, how easy will it be to get the stock firmware on it?
Last, but not least: is this rom going to drain the battery life of my phone?
Many thanks for the replies

Take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986831
You can't update with kies if you have a custom rom. you have to flash back
Thanks for the replies! I'm currently running Indroid 3.0, and it's working perfect!
It was very easy to install the custom rom, which I didn't expect.

Hy, i have also a question:
- If i flash with a custom rom/kernel can i then install official rom from Kies? Or it's irreversible?
Kies only works with official roms as far as I know...
If you flash a custom rom with odin, kies doesn't recognize the phone (and you can not install official rom from kies).
You can however flash an official rom with odin (rom from samfirmware).
- With the official rom kies also works again.
Thanks, i will be watting for the official rom for the 5801 and then i will install custom rom depending on the users feedback.
Hello,
I have some questions about my s4.
Is it possible to flash a touchwiz version of gt-l9505 to an official kitkat rom (making it GP edition) and receive direct updates from google?
If yes, i would like to know a safe way on how to do it (because the forum is a little chaotic and i am afraid to make a change on the device by my own). I would also like to know if there is a way to reflash to original touchwiz rom in case GPE does not comfort me, i d like to know if it will be some kind of backup or if the official touchwiz rom is able to be downloaded.
I will appreciate every efforts in helping me clear those question marks in my head.
Thank you very much.:good:
Device info: Galaxy s4 GT-l9505
Version: I9505XXUFNC4
Unlocked
Unrooted + official rom
What you want is not possible. Different phones, different hardware.
You can only use a custom roms if you want GP.
You can always return to stock because every rom that Samsung releases is available for download.

Thanks for answering! You mean that the gs4 gpe and s4 touchwiz have different hardware? If yes I understand and I would like to ask if I will be able to find a clean official stock kit kat rom without any mods or changes. Also, this kind of rom that I am looking for would never be able to update via Google ota, right ?

Just browse in the development section. There are plenty of good roms out there. Just try out for yourself what suits your needs.
No ota from Google will never work.
Which is the best stable stock ROM 9505 s4 restart without problems running stable country stock ROM
Best ROM threads are silly enough. Do you really need 2 of them?
Try your options out and see which one is most stable based on the way you use it. Hint....stability isn't really an ongoing g problem with ROMs anymore. They are all MRO or less stable.
Hey everyone, it's me again,
I am currently using Blisspop custom rom's latest lollipop version - got rid oft the stock android several months ago now and I must say that everything IS better than Samsung delivered. BUT I am missing one thing from the stock version - and pretty much at that, for I can't find any "worthy" successor to it: Samsung's Memo app (I think it's Name is S-Memo, but I'm not really sure... I included Screenshots I found on the web)
Since I can't find any real substitute to it I was wondering, if it wouldn't be possible to flash that single app {like you do with gapps) to the custom Rom ...
I hope someone understands the point I'm trying to Name OR knows an alternative to it that's almost like a clone :cyclops:
Thanx again in advance for your kind understanding and trouble
Yours
Tattva
Guys can u share the best rom for mt6572 kk4.4.2 out there? I want to give a new look to my phone. please guide me to do it. my phone is rooted. phone: Inew cxq u1. Recently I have flashed my phone via sp tools with stock rom. And this time I want to flash with custom rom. please guide me to install recovery and porting by pc/phone.
Sorry, it's a question impossible to answer. It's also a wrong kind of question in this forum. No decent Android user will answer that. My recommendation is to try different Roms and drink Ron Zacappa.

Search on needrom website
I cant tell you how to get the best rom but you can search on needrom website. Go to your phone's section. There would be many rom, so read about their features and search for the one with highest rating.(Generally the latest ones).
