Not as many display screens on gingervillian :( - G2 and Desire Z General

I recently installed gingervillian 1.5 on my HTC G2 and after finally getting wifi calling to work I started adding shortcuts to my home screen when I noticed this rom has 2 less screens than the factory install of 2.2 Any way change this? If not I can just deal

You can install whatever launcher takes your fancy from the Market. There's a good Stock Gingerbread launcher, ADW and LauncherPro, among others.
All of the above allow for at least 5 screens and some will go 7 or more. Try a couple out and see what you think!

Phone is so much faster with ADW

Hi,
Couple questions.
Does it make sense that my phone, and everything about it is a lot snappier/faster ever since I installed ADW.Launcher? Even if I use my phone, switch back to TouchWiz, I can notice a clear conference in response.
Also, my phone is rooted. Am I able to remove TW if I have another launcher in place? I've never talked liked TW.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
Yes. it does make sense. TouchWiz has lots of add-ons which are running in the background.
I have tried ADW.Launcher and its fast, but LauncherPro is even faster. Give it a try, you will feel the difference.
I went from TW to ADW to launcherpro and launcherpro is definitely the most snappy
This may seem like a dumb question, but I'm fairly new to all this.
When people switch Home launchers and develop their own home screens, do they do it all on the phone using Desktop Visualizer?
Or is there a way to make up the design with icons, home screen and which services you want to run etc. Using your PC before copying it to your phone?
Thanks. Ill try out Launcher Pro.
As for three other question. Am I able to remove TouchWiz?

Let us know how you get on with Launcher because I'm also running ADW and it seems pretty good. I tried Launcher several months ago and thought it was good but didn't notice a speed difference when I installed ADW. I just like how ADW works but would give that up if Launcher was faster.
I noticed the exact opposite:
I switched from TW to Launcher Pro and now the phone feels alot slower and it takes ages to open the dialer or the contacts.
What am I doing wrong?

I installed Launcher Pro first and was using it for quite sometime now. I tried ADW eventually and wasn't impressed and didn't quite notice a faster response compared to Launcher Pro...
My personal opinion is .. Go for Launcher Pro and fix the Lag issues (if any) using the One Click Lag Fix (which can be found on the xda forums) and now my phone is really smooth

Yes you can remove TouchWiz and set any other launcher app as default home.
For those that just want speed and few extra features look no further than zeam launcher. little slower is launcher pro with some caveats regarding full screen options and lately with more addons seems to be slowing down to adw level. Lastly adw while slowest of the three makes up with just sheer number of customizations options. love the double click gesture on zeam wish the others would copy it. Adw as daily driver for me though. Memory usage corresponds to the overall speed.

I agree with this post. When you install Launcher Pro, then look at the RAM being used, it's like both TW and launcher pro are both using memory at the same time so it was back to TW for me as it just ran better. However, at some stage I'm going to give a Custom Rom a go that you can remove TW altogether and then I'd say Launcher Pro should be awesome

selection of launcher for streakdroid 1.9.0

as we know, SD 1.9 has few launcher
they are
GB (using "noapps" in install.txt???) , adwlauncher, launcherpro and dell stageui.
what i wanna know is there one of them run the fastest and battery last longest time??
or just they got the different appearance??
thx~
First of all: you can just install noapps and then install whatever launcher you prefer and remove the old (via titanium backup or root manager e.g.)
Between the launchers that are available by default I personally only tried AWD, launcher pro and stage UI and gb.
- Gingerbread launcher wont give you portrait so if you need that scratch that of the list.
- Dell stage UI is a resource hog (battery and performance wise it gets worse) but it has lots of nice widgets and eye candy.
- LauncherPro is fast and the more popular one. There is a paid version with a lot of good widgets.
- AWD is slower then LP but packs more features and allows more customization (themes for icons, wallpapers, etc). Only downside being the lack of thos good widgets (that both Dell stage UI and LP have).
- From what people say Zeam is probably the fastest but i never tried it.
But more important than all that try to figure it out by yourself. Its a personal thing of likes and dislikes and in the end youll probably choose based on something else.
1 - Look for the launchers in the market (Launcher Pro Plus, ADW launcher EX, Zeam launcher, Go Launcher, etc) (or just search for "launcher").
2 - Install the launcher of your choice.
3- press the home button and choose the new launcher.
4 - Use the launcher and explore at your will.
5 - Uninstall Launcher falling back to your previous version.
6 - repeat steps 1 - 5 until you find your favorite.
7 - Uninstall other launchers that you don't use (and if it is the system one you can allways delete / freeze them with Titanium backup).
Have fun!
I am thinking between launcherpro and adwlauncher, these two really catch my eyes, and I am going to try

go launcher ex allows you to lock in portrait mode, is free, and allows you to add up to 30 screens i think. downside is it is 5x5 max in columns and rows making it harder to do cool layouts.
actually I don't mind using wot landscape mode, Coz I hold my streak with both hands and typing faster in landscape
I think 5x5 is enough, don't u think so??
anyway thx so much for your reply, I will try go launche later
thx so much

I use ADW and even bought ADW EX from the market.
5x5 is annoying. It leaves you with big gaps between the icons and doesn't allow you to utilize the streak's 5" screen. With ADW, launcher pro and others, you can adjust the amount of columns and rows on the launcher and app drawer.
My suggestion is that you sit down and go through all the settings in launcher pro and adw, set each of them up to how u like it to and see which one you prefer
Launcher 7 is pretty cool but a little laggy for my taste.

FWIW, I'm finding the (default) Gingerbread launcher very nice. It is landscape-only, but that is my preferred way to using my Streak anyway. I've had no glitches with live wallpapers or anything else for that matter.
I've only used the 2.1 stock, ADW and Zeam previously, but decided dj-steve might actually know something by including the GB as default. I'm not disappointed.
And 1.9 is way-cool.
I just like using a simple screen without much flash. LauncherPro is snappy enough for me. Maybe not as fast as the others, but decent enough.
zeam is quick and smooth, u guys can try!!

If only they had a launcher that combined the elements of launcher pro and adw. I really like the eye candy that the transitions give you on launcher pro, but I love the themes and customization of adw. hard to pick one.

By the way, SPB Shell 3D is now available and is definitely worth a try. The 15 mins you get to decide before seeking a refund is enough for a trial. Runs great on the Streak and it seems to have improved battery life for me over Stage.

[Q] touchflo3d on Milestone

Hey guys!
I was wondering if someone made touchflo3d work on android especially milestone ?
The thing is, i put like all home replacements on my stone like launcher, adw, regina3d, zune, golauncher(best in my opinion). But go launcher uses 20mb, gosms 10mb (i ve got 20mb left using with some widgets) so compared to touchflo they are all... lets say ok.
I know that home replacements are highly costumizeable and i managed to have all my 100 apps available now with one click or swipe+click with mixture of golauncher and AppManager, which i will describe in another thread soon.
But before i switched to android, i was using wm phones and always had touchflo working, the launcher dock with the swipe may be the best ever invented, so it would really be a step back, not to use at least something similar.
Is there something similar in the market or a rom maybe ?
Have you tried zeam launcher?

Zeam seems to be the smallest one as I can see.
Used Zeam now, seems to be very fast and nice.
i will test it for some days

GO Launcher

Just trying to get an overview of user experience with GO Launcher and apps on the desire.
Personally I find it very smooth and responsive. Is there better out there?
I own a HTC Desire, it's smooth enough, but if you starting using lot's of widgets and so on it gets heavier. It does a good job for all the fancy stuff tho. And pretty cool themes too.
I use it too. I found that it's the most polished launcher for gingerbread.
some unavailable feature
1. since they develop the launcher, they should be able to build full screen animation for its weather widget.
2. The unlocker screen cannot trigger the animation. So even the great HTC clock cannot have the animation.
Interesting points. I'm using it on ICS, works well, seems smoother than stock launcher. I'm using HD widgets for the clock and weather (full screen). Im trying the GO Launcher HD for tablets on my tf101 eepad, quite impressed with it.
I don't know about ICS. While I found it to be the best on GB on ICS I would recommend Apex.
I also use GO Launcher for HTC Desire. I didn't found another launcher to move better. Best so far...
for me it is the smoother and most customisable launcher.
I used ADW and ADW EX for a really long time. But then switched over to GO Launcher EX.
It's fast, stable, smooth and has a lot of features. For me the best decision...
very nice launcher!
I first used, and bought, Launcher Pro, don't remember the reason but I changed to Go Launcher after about 6 months. I used it for over a year, until I flashed to ICS and now JB, and I use Nova. Was really happy with Go Launcher, but Nova was pre-installed so I decided to try it, and it is really awesome.
I found go launcher consumes too much memory for a HTC Desire and it crashes a lot.
I really like it, but I have better
go launcher is bad launcher
Best launcher for gb imo. I just use basic flip effect as 3d can lag but otherwise it's great. Mildwild Rom.

Which is the best launcher?
I'd say the smoothest launcher now is Nova Launcher.
Works like a charm for me. Has all the options I need.
This is my opinion!
Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389071
I agree that nova is the better launcher (I run it on my gnex) but found it lagged my desire somewhat, hence sticking with go. Even go does somewhat with visual settings using certain effects, rooted using Mildwild.

I used this launcher before i flashed a MildWild ROM. Now i just use the Xperia launcher from this ROM
Ever since I discovered GO I never liked any other launcher. Tried them all, but u will never get so many customizations with others. Plus it has gesture controls. FOR FREE!
I'm using CM7.2. Deleted that ADW crap from CM ROM and installed GO Launcher EX instead. In fact, I also use GO Contacts, GO SMS, GO Keyboard, GO Locker and Toucher.
The GO Team is the best!

LG G2 and the LAG/STUTTERING issue

I'm trying to get to the bottom of this issue, since there are many reports, yet we don't have a dedicated thread to try and understand what is the cause.
So, as far as I understand, when you first get the device, before you install anything, it runs smoothly like an HTC ONE, no matter how fast or how long you're using it. There are numerous reviews of the LG G2 to back this up.
As far as I understand, things begin to deteriorate when you start to install more apps and widgets. And eventually after you've install enough apps and widgets, the device becomes laggy like the average Samsung device (and not like the HTC ONE). I've read reports from people who said that at some situations (when the device is loaded with apps/widgets) when they press the "HOME" button, it takes the LG G2 5 full seconds to re-draw the home screen. This is unacceptable even with my 2.5 years old Galaxy S2, not to mention with a 2.3Ghz flagship quad core device.
What I'm trying to understand is:
1. Is it more apps, or more widgets, which cause the problem ?
2. Is it a problem of memory management ? how come the HTC ONE (which also has 2GB RAM) doesn't lag or stutter at all?. It does seem to be a memory management problem, because before you install apps/widgets on the LG G2, it runs 100% smoothly.
3. Is this a problem with the stock launcher only ? meaning, if you are one of those people whose LG G2 started to stutter because you've installed too many apps/widgets, does installing a third party launcher (like Nova, etc.) immediately solve the problem ?
Damn, how many apps have u installed? I have 200++ apps and my homescreen has tons of widgets and my phone is as fast as the first time i got it

Are you using the stock launcher ?
Is it completely lag-free as the first day you received it before you installed apps ?
Haven't heard this issue mentioned before on the LG G2.
I have had the phone 2 weeks, 100+ apps, stock launcher (albeit only 3 screen filled), about 5 widgets loaded.
No lag at all, fastest smoothest Android I've ever used.
did you root or install a third party launcher? some apps (usually slide from swiping fingers from left or right side) are not quite compatible with nova launcher and can cause lag. it would be nice if you could post the screen of running apps / cached apps

ok, are you talking about the launcher redraw lag stutter issue? if so, it's not the phone, and it's now how many widgets and screens you have.(i had 3 widgets split between only 3 screens..) . it's that the stock launcher just redraws all the time and it stutters when you try to switch screens as its redrawing.
solution, try another launcher until we get a fix to lock launcher in memory. v6 supercharger has this option, but it doesn't work. believe me, I spent hours one night setting up v6 for bulletproof launcher and it still redraws.
I've had the phone since launch day on Verizon, and I don't have any lag or stutter besides the stock launcher stutter, but I've been using nova now, so i literally have no lag whatsoever.

Here is an example of the lag issue I'm talking about with the LG G2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gpn-hZnEPqg
I have around 100 aps and it's ok.
But when I want around 30+ widgets - homescreen is lagging heavily like in op post. This is both in LG stock launcher and Nova launcher. For comparison I installed 60 widgets on my old samsung note 10.1 - stock touchwiz - in it was running smooth. I even created a thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469207
So I just stuck to standart design without to many widgets, but it's surely LG ui code bugs somewhere. Try it: create 8 screens with 6 different widgets on each.

So do you greenify the apps that don't need to run in the background? Also have you debloated the stock rom or run clean Rom? Have you removed the widgets one at a time until you find the culprit. It does look like a redraw but it seems to be caused by something that updates every time you go back to the home screen.

I have around 200 apps. 2 screens filled, clock widget on my home screen. 5 widgets on another screen. All icons themed using the stock launcher. Did my very best to duplicate the video. Around 10 time or so and not one redraw.
Conclusion. Retun your phone and try a diff one. There not all the same and some bad apples get through. My buddy had 3 htc ones with issues. I went though 2 gnex. It happens. If it's still doing it, try something else. I personally could not be happier with my g2. Its a beast and I am so freaking pleased with the optimusui. I almost don't want pure android anymore.

I think the term 'lag' is subjective cause what the OPer sees as lag another person may not see as lag. I for one see stuttering and not just with redrawing of the stock launcher, i'm using an ATT variant with a rooted, stock ROM BTW. I have about 150 apps, one home screen with one widget, one folder and 15 apps. I'm coming from an HTC One which i still have, rooted, running Viper One and prior to that i had a Nexus 4. Comparing my experience with the these devices i can say that there is a bit of stuttering throughout the G2's interface. Don't get me wrong the apps launch faster on the G2 , but the transition animation between pressing the app and it actually opening seems a bit jerky by comparison. Its not as smooth as the HTC One while scrolling the same apps side by side nor is it even close to being as smooth as the stock android running N4. I'm not equating smoothness to speed, because the G2 easily outpaces them both but jerks a lot doing it. I tried Clean ROM, didn't help much, so now i'm just in the waiting/researching phase to get this sorted out but the stuttering is real, at least for me. My friend should be getting a T Mobile variant this weekend so i'll do a comparison then.
