[March 17] [Q] Backlight problem - HD2 General

Hello,
I'm having a very annoying problem with my HD2 : the backlight doesn't work.
I can see the screen, but very badly, when I put the phone to sunlight. It displays normally the sense screens and the keypad is working, but it is impossible to use the phone.
I was using the CHT theme, but I did a hard reset and I'm now on the original sense and it still doesn't work. I also tried to retrieve the SD card, the battery. Nothing worked.
Does anyone already had this problem ?
Thanks for your help !
Marc

Sorry to tell you this but it sounds like your LCD or digitizer is going out. I am more inclined to say it is your LCD as tbe brightness of the screen is the only tging affected. If it was the digitizer your touch functionality would be affected also.
Have you went to Settings/Sounds & Display/ scoll down to Backlight and adjusted the brightness of the display?

Screen fade? Is my screen just too old, or is there a fix?

The screen on my XDA2 is getting too dim to see in the daylight. It used to be fine, and the problem seems to be getting worse. My XDA2 is a demo device so is a few years old now, maybe this is just age related.
I thought it was WM2005, but I re-flashed to the O2 official latest update, and it didn't help. Does anyone have any ideas? Is a new screen the only solution?
It would be a shame to have to change the screen, as it's not in bad condition, other than being too dim.
Any ideas received with thanks.
Richard
Hello.
Sorry if this is too obvious, but have you checked the brightness settings in 'Start -> Settings -> Backlight -> Brightness'?
Also, does the brightness look any different when running off AC power instead of battery?
Is it just as dim at the splash screen after a reset?
Sadly it's as dim when it boots up, and the brightness is turned all the way up.
There is no change when plugged into the cradle, the charging adapter, or the car charger.
Does anyone know what is used for the backlight? I wonder if it is changeable, from a device with a broken screen?
Unfortunatly I don't want to take the thing apart if I can help it, not untill I know if it can be fixed. The risk of damaging the screen, and killing a PDA/phone I use every day....
Thanks for the reply though.
Richard
There is a Toppoly TD035STEB2 display, used in Qtek 2020. Backlight is LED based, so, service life should be several dozen years... Check, if you have any change, when you move brightness slider in control window. Most probably, you'll be unable to fix this problem yourself, however, if you will find a second device working properly, you can try to exchange system board to find roots of problem - board or display. From my experience, most probably, there is a problem on system board, connected to backlight circuit.
Could you post a screen photo?
Hey Richard, did you ever sort your display problem. Mine does the same and I'm interested to know if its a LCD or Board problem
Thanks
Larry

Backlight????

I just replaced my old broken LCD screen for the mda and installed the new one. The screen works and so does the touch screen but there is no backlight and settings are on for backlight... Whats wrong??? Please help..
I haven't opened the MDA so I'm not sure what the cabling is like (to know if it is a separate cable that controls the backlight or not, if so then this might be inaccurate)...
Sounds to me like the LCD has a dead backlight. Was it purchased used or new? and where from? meaning was the dealer reputable. If so, contact the dealer and ask them for a replacement. As, at least on laptops and most (though not all) electronics, the backlight is integrated into the LCD housing and sold as a single unit. So a failure of the backlight, though replaceable, usually results in the replacement of the screen as a whole.
The LCD was purchased new and came in packaging and had the plastic still on touch screen. Purchased it online. The screen works fine its just the backlight. you might be right about the dead backlight I'll contact dealer and tell them. Thanks
MDA Backlight issue
I ran across a problem with the MDA, where I adjusted the Backlight settings. From there on the Backlight woulf not turn on unless I went to the setting control to adjust it. The fix: Go to backlight settings, set your brightness desired (maybe in the middle). Go to Battery power from the tabs that are currently listed. Make sure you have (Turn on Backlight when a button is pressed or the screen is tapped) Selected. Then press ok.
That should fix it if the issue you are experiencing is similar to mine.
i tried the settings and no good..Is there anything else I should try? Please help.
tried these settings and no good...is there anything else i can do please help..

Colors

I recently switched from a Wing (Herald) to the Hermes (8525)... I noticed the colors are pretty crappy compared to the wing, yet the Hermes is much better in just about every other aspect.
Is there a way to adjust the colors, contrast, etc. to try and make it look a bit better?
I think the same...
Is the any way to adjust the contrast/brightness and other things so the colors could be more vivid?
Comparing the screen with the one in Artemis it looks really bad
^^Agreed^^
the colors seem pretty dull and not vivid like the touch that I had previous to this device..taking a look at the specs, it seems like both touch and the tytn use the same TFT touch sensitive screen supporting over 65K colours. But why does the tytn screen seem "gloomy" does this have to do with the fact that it is Windows 5??.. any help is appreciated
I have WM6 on board and it is also very dull I even hacked the registry to show the "Contrast" option in Settings but nothing happens when I change it Any ideas?
So I guess its not the W5, well the only other thing I can think of, is the protective film that came with the phone?? any one using their device without the "stock" protector that was provided with the phone?
I have no protector on my screen
I think that the protection-glass makes the screen look so bad...
hmmm
I noticed something interesting, once I do a soft reset and the device is loading up, when my providers (rogers) logo appears the screen actually gets brighter and then it drops back to the less bright screen that we are complaining about does this only happen to my hermes.. this I guess that there is light at the end of tunnel.. Now its a matter of tweaking this to remain "max bright".. any suggestions??

True... I have tested it several days ago.... It is brighter but the contrast is still low And everytime you want to open the camera, you have to disable it...

Brightness wont change after changing lcd screen

So long story short i fell on ice and somehow my g2 lcd screen cracked. No biggie bought a new one and changed it. It works i see everything fine. The problem is the brightness is permanently stuck at 50 percent. It wont go higher or lower so could anyone think of any reason this is happening? I opened it up again and checked the cables everything is attached perfectly fine. Any help would be appreciated. Also when i adjust the brightness, the touch buttons like home menu etc change their brightness values but not the screen.

screen replaced, sometimes i have ghost touch when touching screen, why? :(

i have broken my screen (touch amoled, all the screen) and i bought another one from ebay
looks original and arrived in a samsung service pack box
this new display have something strange in colors when the backlight is low, looks like...don't know how to explain but the colors are not perfect as they were with the factory screen...somehow a little bit green (always when light is low)
anyway sometimes now, like one time every week, after i while i'm using it, the screen go crazy and when i touch it, i see (developer, show touch dots) random touch around my fingers
some days ago this problem happened when i was in a call, me and my interlocutor, we heard a strange noise like bzzzzzrbrbzbrbrbzzzz when i was touching the screen, so there was the touch crazy problem and some strange noise when i was touching the screen
a reboot and everything is ok for some day....
i hope you had understood my poor english
opinions? what can i do? :crying:
ps. i have a 9506
It's probably a fake screen. That would explain your color problem and touch problem.

the screen resolution is correct and with high backlight the colors are perfect, looks like original on the front and on the back
how to check if it's fake?
