[Q] EAP Where is NI? - Adam General

So, I don't know how many of us EAP people there are up here but is it just me or has NI just gone completely silent? I can't get any replies from them, they aren't updating their blog, nothing. Anyone having any better luck than me at contacting them? I wan't our update already.

I don't know, I was part of the most recent pre-order, and it's rather odd, no updates, nothing. It was supposed to ship by the 14th (3 days ago, now) and no updates on their website, nothing on the blug, no emails. Odd indeed.

The same here - status is "Shipment under process" but nothing happens. They should explain there delays but are gone kinda dead.....

They are still there. I ordered a PQ 3G wifi on Feb 15 and was due to ship on Mar 14. Received an email on Mar 15 giving me the option to downgrade to an LCD or cancel my order with a ship date of 3 days later. I probably should canceled, because I don't have faith in NI anymore, but I want my Adam.
Sent from my GTablet-TnT-Lite using Tapatalk

I don't think you can call it EAP anymore. I have concerns with NI and now they have gone quiet as far as public goes. Still no SDK is also a concern but they are working on Honeycomb. The issue is that the SDK should have been release. Also where is the App store? I think they are changing the way they are going to do business and looking at the product and process as a whole but that is just my guess.

Well so it ships from the manufacturer to the warehouse where they assign the tracking info and shipping labels, then it ships to another place where it get put on a plane. I didn't get my shipping notice until about 5 days after they said they were shipping. But the cool thing was it arrived at my door 5 days after that.
Also they might be abandoning their own market in favor of Honeycomb.

Yes but why is it taking so long? I was told back in late January early February that EAP would have an update 'soon'. I've emailed them over 5 times in the past two or three weeks and heard nothing back so far. The blog has gone for over two weeks without an update again. I'm about to root and start tinkering with stuff.
For those with EAP1, what is you're build number? We aren't supposed to have the same as everyone else right?

Staying on the supposed focus of the thread ... What are you trying to do? I gather it is connect to an 802.1x EAP network.
You need to know the following:
EAP Method (e.g., PEAP)
Phase-2 authentication (e.g., MSCHAPv2)
Whether you need to enter a CA Certificate of if the server will assign
Identity: usually your [email protected]
Anonymous identity (sometimes leave blank others require 'anonymous')
Password
Then hit CONNECT.
This only works on Android 2.2+ as Eclair was deficient in this area.
Does this help you?

Are you in the UK? If so, you can alpha test!
Some of you may have friends or business associates living in the UK and we want to leverage your network. We are looking for a small group of alpha testers in this region who would be willing to test Skyfire and provide constructive feedback on the experience. If you have a friend or associate in the UK who fits this criteria, please forward this announcement and have them respond to [email protected] with the following information.
We want as many different carriers, handsets, and rate plans as possible. Skyfire enables a rich browsing experience, which can consume a lot of data, we recommend an unlimited data plan to avoid bill shock on data charges.
Please e-mail us the following information:
•Name
•Email address
•Phone Number
•Handset
•Carrier
•Rate Plan
•Maximum data allowed per day/week/month
We will notify eligible alpha testers next week, if you have been selected.
Please note that some data plans will not allow Skyfire to work (as the ports or blocked by proxy settings). It may turn out even if you are selected, your data plan will not permit Skyfire use.

Sprint Epic 4G Update Brings Faster Uploads Tomorrow

Forum member dshoem01 on Sprint's community forums has promised that the carrier will be releasing an update to the Sprint Epic 4G that will be coming tomorrow, September 30th, and will be rolled out over the air over four days. The firmware update should fix the slow upload speeds that Epic 4G owners have been experiencing, which caps their uploads to a measly 150 kbps on Sprint's 3G network. According to the forum post, "Good news - an update will be released tomorrow 9/30. It will be rolled out over a 4 day period so not everyone will get it on day 1. I will have the standard MR information (fixes included, rollout schedule, etc) available tomorrow morning and will post it in a new featured thread."

The only one I've ever experienced was the 3G upload. and it just isn't a big deal for me right now. Plus, fix is in the works.
People who have the market download problem didn't clear their cache before flashing a ROM. That's no one's fault except the person who flashed the ROM. The only time I've had anything fail in the market is when I was actively switching from wifi to 3g or vice versa. Download restarted fine with no issues.
GPS, sorry, just don't experience them. I apologize for those with them, but I just have not had an issue getting a lock when I'm outdoors. I travel to different stores everyday for work, and I've never had an issue navigating there. GPS/Maps way better on this phone than Hero, which frequently put me on some side road instead of the current one, and no one *****es about that phone's GPS issues.

This does not uncap the upload speed, it just doesn't route your internet traffic through a proxy anymore, after you change this.

Well I changed mine to eliminate the proxy and with 2bars of signal on 3g I got a ping of 145 with speedtest app also it now shows a server thats actually near me . The same server when I test the 4g speeds! That could bed the reason for a lower ping though

Reports coming in that Xoom Wifi owners have received the updates today!

Hey Xoomers! It appears that wifi-only xoom owners are also having the updates pushed to their tabs also! I have not received it yet, but be patient, looks like all Xooms are being updated!
https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/380602#380602
could be an accident. looks like people over there are getting silenced about the update
From the sounds of it, this was meant to go out to their preview members only. I guess someone jumped the gun and didn't bother to let them know they weren't supposed to talk about it.
Which is only a guess, since the corporate rep on the forums has been very vague - only a single post with a "maybe" and then a bunch of posts insisting that people who have stated they got an update check their email.
I wonder if Motorola has really internalized the fact that there are, like, four or five other vendors for these tablets coming out in the next few months - many of them with very, very similar hardware. Not communicating with their tech-savvy audience seems like a poor way to convince people to recommend their tablet over others.
They need to share this ****!!!

This is pretty disappointing. The update obviously exists and works on the wifi xoom but google won't release it yet probably just to make Verizon happy.
Are people really going to go out and buy 3g xooms just because the update on Verizon came first.

Hmm Being in Denmark and having purchased a US Xoom Wifi I wonder what to do. (Stock 3.0)
So I did the following ...
Added a VPN tunnel to USA. (had previosly brought VPN access)
Set the date 1 day back, to let the Xoom look for updates.
" no cigar! "
Set the date 1 day forward (today´s date)
Still no luck -
I wonder if the update is really rolling out
Can Anyone confirm Xoom Wifi is really getting 3.1 right now ?
Is there Anyway to "push" it - (besides the date change procedure)

Read the Guide thread, all information is there, including a link to how to make a host cable. If something is still unclear, then just ask.
Not according to my conversation with Motorola today. Can you buy a wi-fi only from Verizon? Just wondering if those are still branded differently and that's why they're getting updates.
For now 32GB is plenty for me so I'm not exactly screaming for the SD card update. But I will be a little disappointed if I have to wait weeks for my update when Verizon got theirs already. There were several items in the list below that I was really hoping to take advantage of. I'm not exactly crying over the update just yet though, because I'd rather do the official OTA update than download directly like others have been doing. However, I will pre-qualify all this with...the rep I spoke with didn't seem to be the most knowlegable and appeared to be reading from a script based on the responses I was given to some other questions I asked. So take this with a grain of salt.
Ann: Motorola XOOM with Wi-Fi tablets and other variants of Motorola XOOM will receive the update within the next several weeks.
frost: will this update include the sd card support?
Ann: It does not.
frost: will that fix be implemented any time in the near future?
Ann: It's enhancements are:
● Enables movie services including Android Market Movie Rental via full HDCP / DRM support
● Enables support for full Adobe Flash 10.2 release
● Picture Transfer Protocol Feature Support
● Bluetooth(R) support in Gtalk
● Bluetooth(R) mouse support along with further Bluetooth(R) headset support
● Adding Proxy support for Wi-Fi network
● Resizable widgets
● Additional shortcut key support for Bluetooth keyboard
Ann: Yes. A future software upgrade will enable the SD card.
So I've changed my Date & Time and still haven't recieved my 3.1 Update for my Wifi Xoom.
Any suggestions....???? (Besides being patient...... just can't do that....)

99% Of Android Handsets Are Vulnerable To Attack That Can Leak User Login Credentials

Hello,
I've been going through Redmondpie and there's a lil issue that popped up.
http://www.redmondpie.com/99-of-and...-attack-that-can-leak-user-login-credentials/
Researchers at multiple universities are warning that almost all smartphones running Google’s Android software could be allowing third parties access to digital tokens that could allow access to services such as Google Calendar and Contacts.
The issue, which affects all devices running versions of Android prior to 2.3.3 is related to handling of the authentication protocol ClientLogin. According to researchers at the German University of Ulm the, once a user enters their credentials, the programming interface retrieves its token in clear text. With the token valid for 14 days, a window appears where attackers could use their new found access however they like.
The whole process is relatively easy to exploit too, according to the researchers.
“We wanted to know if it is really possible to launch an impersonation attack against Google services and started our own analysis,”
“The short answer is: Yes, it is possible, and it is quite easy to do so.”
This comes after a professor at Rice University demonstrated a similar flaw affecting Facebook, Twitter and once again Google Calendar. This time however the hack could only be carried out on an unsecured Wi-Fi network. Google has since patched the hole in Android 2.3.4 but failed to plug the whole when it comes to Picasa which allows web albums to potentially transmit sensitive data in the clear. Google is working on a fix.
The potential security holes are exacerbated by Android’s fragmentation issues, which cause phones to remain on older software long after patches have been released. With carriers and device manufacturers insisting on meddling with Google’s operating system updates can take months to get past their own software engineers. The result is a massive 99% of Android devices still being wide open to hacks.
Google recently said it will be working more closely with carriers to try to reduce the time it takes for updates to be rolled out fully.
-------------
What is your opinion? We are now risking our login credentials and our entire data with third party tokens and google which could be taken advantage of.
(This is only happening for users prior to 2.3.3)
Yeah, I saw an article about this too on
http://news.cnet.com/8301-27080_3-20063646-245.html?tag=TOCmoreStories.0
also. Good post. I had no idea android could be attacked like this. Here is another article about it if you want to see another one from one of my favorite sites.
omg, you mean to tell me that people may be able to find out what time my doctor's appointment is AND get my mom's phone number?
great news...now you can save your ass from a embarrassing situation in front of your girlfriend saying your android was hacked
This isn't really surprising considering it only works over unencrypted networks. Everyone knows unencrypted networks are susceptible to attack I'm not to surprised at this. It was kind of stupid of Google to transmit important data in plain text but hey, at least they fixed it in 2.3.4. I never use WiFi anyway so guess I'm safe.

Wow im scared.
NOT
Like hackers are following me when I use the internet on my phone :/ And I almost only use internet here at home on my secured wifi. And I wouldn't be even scared when I would be using a open wifi network. Like they do know what I'm doing.
It's just some piece of crap news made by apple.
There you go, issue fixed: http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/18/google-confirms-android-security-issue-server-side-fix-rolling/

Do 99% of Android user connect to an open network ? Even if they connect do they enter credentials so that the auth token can be stolen ? Why is this even a concern ?

And to be honest if you are not bothered about posting your nude pics on picasa, you probably wouldn't be worried if it got into someone else's hands

it's scary!
Not really that scary.. what would be scary if those nude pics started showing up all over the OS without a way of ever getting rid of it all.
Why scary? Android's adoption rate would go through the roof then. The inner pervert inside everyone will shine
Interesting to read but I write this on 2.3.4 miui so I do feel bad for the others who don't root their Android device and install custom roms.
Have a look at this article which has implications for all Android devices.

Happy World IPv6 Day

Happy World IPv6 Day!!!
Yes my EVO 4G (OG) is tunneling IPv6 from here on out. Just got it setup.
Without it we will have issue down the road and Romania and France lead the way so far in IPv6 deployment...

Used free IPv6Config app from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=to.doc.android.ipv6config&hl=en I set it for every boot and also enabled address privacy to prevent mac address from being displayed/shown. To confirm I used Network Info II https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEwOSwiYXdzLmFwcHMubmV0d29ya0luZm9JaSJd
source code is at https://gitorious.org/android-ipv6config
Cool - I'll have to give it a look. Thanks button clicked.
Wth is IPV6?
sent from 2yr old Evo on ICS
Its an address or telephone #, but to devices that connect to the Internet severs basically they connect to each other.
It has 128 bits of address space, translating that its 3.4 x 10 to the 38th addresses well its 340,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 thats trillions trillions trillions of addresses.

no IP address.. no internet connectivity for any device.
Very few IP addresses left in IPv4 space so v6 (IPng) was first thought about in the early 90's and just now being implemented by some.
2nd link I posted in OP explains it all in simple terms.
I still find it sad that the U.S. is lagging behind. Guess the amount of $$ most ISPs (internet service providers) and others are willing to spend will cut into their profits.
This move will also cost the home consumer as a lot of routers, network switches, cable/dsl modems, gateways, tvs, refrigerators, blu ray players, set top tv boxes, game devices, smart phones, wifi devices and even older operating systems and some software are not fully IPv6 compatible.
I must say from everything I am seeing this excludes Comcast as they seem to be the only ISP who is willing to make the move and have been working on it for over 7yrs.
I personally have Charter and they seemed to take it as joke and laughed when I inquired about IPv6.
