Hey Guys,Me again, with more question on hand. Thanks in advance for all answers given.
Before the questions,Here's what my WF is currently running : Wildpuzzle(the latest Froyo one),Overclock Kernel from the old wildpuzzle thread.
1)I'm thinking of changing my ROM to CyanogenMod 7,so can someone tell me exactly what are nightly builds and the differences between the nightlies and RC2?
2)Which version of CyanogenMod 7 is most stable? (With the least bugs and with most original functions like FM Radio and WIFI tethering included)
3)Will it be faster and more responsive than my current Wildpuzzle that uses LauncherPro?
4)When I installed Wildpuzzle like a month ago,I partitioned the SD card once.(although it doesn't seem to make much of a space differences with the Stock ROM when all the apps are installed back again)So can anyone explain how partition really works, how some people can have dozens of apps installed and still have 100+MB left and do I have to re-partition when installing CyanogenMod?
Thanks again in advance for your patience.
1) Nightlies are automated builds made by build bots. They contain minor (sometimes major) code changes, and, are experimental releases. RC's are release candidates, and, normally, stable enough for release.
2) Stick with RC2 for now. Nightly #22 should be the better one if the 3G bug is fixed, but, #22 is not released yet. Also, if, you get a bootloop with RC2, flash Jacob's kernel v4.1. Again, this bug will be removed in #22.
3) It should be. Can't really say for sure though, since, this is a subjective thing. For me, moving from Wildpuzzle to CM7 did seem to speed up everything. (After I switched from the default ADW to LP, it was more smooth). Besides, just for the level of options and customization you get, I would say it is worth it.
4) You need to flash DTApps2SD as well after partitioning. Simply partitioning will not make the apps move to the SD Card. Also, if you have a fast SD card, you can consider moving the Dalvik cache to your SD card as well, implying that no phone memory will be used at all when you install apps. You need not repartition again if you already have one.
Thanks for the reply
2)I've read somewhere on the forum that nightly 17 is better and more stable than RC2,is this true? and what are the major bugs in RC2 and what is missing in it(things that can currently be done on Wildpuzzle but not on RC2) and where can I find Jacob's 4.1 Kernel?
4)How do I know if I have a fast SD card? and where can I find DTApps2SD?
1) Don't know really. Since I have not tried #17 myself. Anyway, it looks like #22 is out. I'll be trying that, since it uses a newer kernel compared to Jacob's kernel and should fix the 3G bug. Anyway, just FYI, Jacob's kernel can be found here: (Repeat: Do not flash this if you are using a new nightly over and including #21)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798471
2) You will have to remove the card and check it. Apart from the card vendor's name and capacity, there will be a number surrounded by an almost full circle. This number will be 2,4,6 or 10. For moving everything including the dalvik cache to SD card, it is recommended to have atleast a Class 4 SD Card, else it may potentially cause slowdowns.
DTApps2SD can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925982
You can check the "Commands" Page (Link given in the thread given above) for instructions on how to use it.
EDIT: 3G Fix didnt happen in #22, but, you can still use it and flash this fix immediately after flashing the CM ROM:

1)I just flashed CM7 RC2 earlier today along with Jacob's 4.2 kernel,so what do I do now if I want to install nightly 22?
2)ok,I've checked and it's a class 4...How do I transfer Apps to Sd using Darktremor's A2SD? Through the standard method or with Titanium Backup?

If you have already setup as per your liking, then, simply wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache under advanced partition. However, because this has a new kernel, I think it would be better to wipe data and do a factory reset as well.
Just flash the dtapps2sd ZIP file as you flash a ROM. If you want to move the dalvik cache to the SD as well, open terminal emulator, type the following:
su
a2sd
a2sd cachesd
Thanks and I've decides to stick with RC2 for now,so i've re flashed RC2,Google Apps, the 4.2 Kernel and DTa2sd...So how exactly does DTa2sd work?Like when I use Titanium Backup to restore all my apps does it go to sd automatically or there is some process to transfering it
Not aware of the Titanium Backup Process, since, I dont use it. But, what I do know is that when you flash the ZIP, the apps are moved then. But, if you have already flashed Dtapps2sd, and then restore from Ti Backup, it should go to the SD.
Anyway, you can check the thread for its functioning. Its explained much better than I can.
Em,How do I know if my SD is partitioned correctly, cos I did the a2sd check command and all I get are lots of codes ending with permission denied

Make sure you type su in your terminal emulator app before running that. This requires Superuser privileges.
Also, another noob way (lol) to check if it is partitioned properly is to go to check the size of your SD card. If it shows the full capacity, it is not partitioned. If it shows the capacity excluding the size of the EXT (eg: Default 2GB + 256 MB EXT will show SD card capacity as 1.60 GB), then, it is correctly partitioned.
Ok,I've checked everything and all seems to be running well,Thanks for all your help
Dammit,New problem...After installing CM7 everything runs fine and after I keep rebooting for everytime I flash something new(GApps,Kernel,DTA2SD),it reboots fine but after restoring my apps and rebooting it,It's stuck at the cyanogenmod bootscreen with the blue arrow(it's called Bootlooping right?) How do I fix this? I really like CM7 and don't want to go back to Wildpuzzle

What am i missing? All my applications are left (some broken, just parts of it on the launcher) after i did a wipe and then flashed a new rom. How to i clean it 100%? I cant remember that i had this "problem" when i flashed roms before. This time i reflashed a new 1.8.4 BASE-rom over the old 1.7.1 TheOfficial TMO EU
Thanks
apps2sd
the only thing i can think of is apps2sd......
If your previous rom had apps2sd, then u will still have the apps even if u do the wipe, coz they are stored on your sd card......
If you want to get rid of them then, backup u r important data, then format the sd card. This will delete the apps installed on sd card....
Yeah, i remember trying cyanogen 4.1.9.1 for some hours, must be it!
With the GingerSense ROM’s being the new hotness right now, there is a overwhelming amount of questions about partitioning. This guide is intended to help anyone that may want to partition their SD and not sure where to start. This information was gathered from The Mynions and posted several times in Myn’s Warm2p2 and Project Synergy threads. This guide was created while using Project Synergy RC1, which runs a CM script that has been modified. Come get assimilated!
Please, READ first before attempting if you are a noob, it’ll save you some gray(grey) hair. I am in no way responsible for any issues you have for following this guide, use at your own risk.
WARNING: This will erase EVERYTHING on your SD card so please transfer the contents of your SD card to a computer or external hard drive PRIOR TO starting this procedure.
1. Boot into recovery (hopefully you have amonRA v2.3)
2. Select "Partition SD Card". You will be prompted to set an amount for the SWAP, ext2 and FAT.
3. Enter zero for the SWAP size, 1024 or 2048 for ext2 and the rest for FAT*
4. After the process finishes, select "Upgrade ext2 to ext3"
5. When the process is complete, go to the wipe menu and wipe EVERYTHING in it.
6. From the main menu, select USB-MS (your phone should be connected to your PC) and copy the Synergy ROM(or your ROM of choice) to the root of your SD Card.**
7. Flash Synergy(or your ROM of choice)
8. Be patient at initial bootup because it can be quite long.
9. I recommend that your 3rd party apps be installed freshly from the market initially. They will automatically be place in the ext3 partition. You can verify it by checking to see that they are listed in the /system/sd/ folder which itself contains 3 folders: app, app-private & dalvik-cache.
After you have followed the directions to partition your card, followed by a flash of the rom and installation of your 3rd party apps & games, go to Menu-Settings-SD & phone storage and check your available internal storage space. If it is 300+, it is safe to assume that the built-in a2sd is working. Furthermore you will need a system level file manager to see the /system/sd/ folder. The Astro File Manager cannot see it.
*These sizes are only used for reference, but excellent choices. You may want to consider a swap partition, even though the stock HTC kernel does not support it. Future kernel development may take advantage of swap and doing so now can save the hassle of re-partitioning later. Food for thought.
**This guide was done while using THE Project Synergy ROM, however it should work across the board.
Hope this helps.
Special thanks to dougjamal, lowetax and all the Mynions helping out around the world (We Global!)
F.A.Q.
Q: Do I have to partition my card?
A: No. The main reason people partition is to take advantage of Apps2SD script. This allows for more internal memory and, depending on which version, control over various system settings (Ex.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7021317&postcount=1).
Q: Do I need to format my SD Card after partition?
A: Actually, no. Will it hurt if you do? No. Creating partitions wipes the SD Card, sets up logical drives(partitions) and formats the space(or you couldn’t write to it). The time consuming part of partitioning is the Card formatting.
Q: Can I run the stock/android A2SD after partitioning?
A: No. The Apps2SD script is different from stock. Using the stock A2SD will give you problems.
Q: Can I do a nand restore after I partition?
A: No. Your SD card's file system has changed and you may experience unfavorable results.
Since there is no "thanks" on the mobile app. Nice guide.

No.. it's just like windows partitions.. Once they are setup you don't have to redo them. Just wipe the data and reinstall...

Thanks, I appreciate it.
Since the stock Kernel doesn't support Swap, after first boot, go to terminal, type Su then enter, then type a2sd check.
It will probably say swap not running at boot. It should say that the partition is present and a bunch of other things.
Next type a2sd swappy10 then enter.
Now type a2sd reswap.
If you get an error, you can run a2sd reinstall which will reboot your phone.
Go back to terminal and type Su and then a2sd reswap.
Should be good to go, but you have to run the reswap after every boot til we get custom kernels.

As answered, no. Remember however, when you do a wipe now, include SDEXT if you don't already.
Also might want to add in there to backup your SD to your computer so you won't lose any important files, music, or backups.
And after using cm or darktremmors a2sd do not use the Android a2sd or you will have problems.

The warning was already there, i just put it in bold to stick out. I will add the stock A2SD info to the faq.

If I am already running Synergy but have not done this, can I just follow the steps and reboot phone or do I need to reflash the ROM to take advantage of the benefit? And if I need to reflash, can I just wipe cache and dalvik or is a total wipe required.
Thanks for the instructions.

You will have to reflash the rom, this WILL erase your entire SD Card. Total wipe required for best results.
one last question... after doing this.. when installing apps from market or whatever... you don't have to run an apps2sd app??? They just automatically install to the sd card???

Well I'm running a 2GB part on the OG 8GB card w/no swap. I always wipe everything when I flash a ROM. When we get custom kernels, i will flash the ROM with at the same time. Then I will get SWAP.

My bag. I will flash the ROM and The kernel at the same time. Since this requires a full wipe(by my standards anyway) I will re-partition then and designate a swap size.
Hi,
Sorry if this question gets posted too many times but I am downloaded [12-Sep-201][MAG/cLK][CWM] NDT GINGER V16.0 [CM Nightly 2.3.5][Kernel: Tytung r12] which states A2SD+ is in list of features (and I think this is supposed to use my 1gb ext3 partition as internal memory) but I only have 153mb after installing a few small apps. I know my old rom gave me about 900mb free, and am lost as to how to fix this.
Any help would be great.
Many thanks.
But your SD card got a sd-ext partition?
Try to use "s2e" from the market to enable your sd-ext partition.
i've tried it on the desire of my girlfriend and it works... it is still working
Im having same problem over multiple roms using hyperdroid a2sd+ seems to work fime but tried the experia arc rom and another and both have no a2sd+ although chefs both say its supported
I have totally wiped phone and sd card re-partitioned and formated
i have a 1gb ext3 partition but using a2sdgui gives error saying a2sd script not found or ext partition not found when i do in fact have one ?
You guys could always try flashing A2SD to the ROM from CWM recovery. Just do a forum search for Darktremor A2SD
Use the 2nd to most recent version, the most recent has never worked for me
If you can't find it, let me know and I'll attach it in a post on this thread.
Edit: Got bored and came back and attached it. Just flash it via CWM
thanks very much m8 ill give it a whirl
forgot to mention, after you flash it, go into terminal emulator and enter: a2sd reinstall
it should say a bunch of stuff, then reboot. then it'll take a long time to boot up cause it's moving everything to your ext3 partition and creating symlinks
app2sd is working fine with me.. i have only one issue.. all those apps shifted to ext partition, are auto starting up and i cant disable them!!! i used most of apps that used to block startup apps. but those in ext partition keep showing up and slow down starting up of the device! any idea???

No, you don't have to delete it. The zip should automatically remove any previous scripts.
I've owned my OG EVO since launch day, and have been rooted/flashing various ROMs ever since.
I've always had the app "App2SD" loaded, to make moving apps to external storage easier.
Looking at flashing other ROMs recently, I noticed some talk about supporting A2SD naively, and scripts and such. What is the difference between using the app or this naive solution?
Sent via Tapatalk on my E4G
The app ur referring to only moves the data for apps to the SD card, if u use dark tremors a2sd it moves the entire app and all its data. U must have a partitioned SD card to use it though.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
Hmmm... So DarkTremors A2SD is something that is built into the ROM? I guess I'm wondering how one would utilize that built-in capability after the ROM is loaded...
I didn't realize the Apps2SD only moved the data. It seemed to move the app too by looking at free space and how it was affected by using it...
if i understand it right... its not "included" in the rom. You need to download and flash the script, but the rom and kernel of most roms support it. It is well worth it. I did this not long after rooting. I partitioned my 32GB sdcard and flashed DT a2sd.

So I've made it through a couple of pages on the linked thread, and the answer may be there (but I haven't gotten to it yet)... How does partitioning the SD card affect Nandroid backups/restore or Titanium Backup, if at all? I know that Nandroid has an "SD-ext" option... I assume this is for backup/restore of the EXT formatted portion of the card? Are Nandroid backups stored on the FAT formatted partitions still?
Sorry for all of the questions; just things I thought of before trudging through 34 pages of forum posts...

Am i able to do this with the stock sd card that came with the evo ?
Yes, but unless your ROM supports Dark Tremors A2SD, the system won't be able to utilize the EXT formatted space on the card, from what I am gathering...

im running Miui. Think it supports it. Its just the how.

Nandroid and tb remain on the storage partition, the FATS32 or whichever one your recovery uses. The ext- partition holds just the apps and data. Wont affect your backups in any way to my knowledge. Remember to back up all your data you want to keep to your pc or something before partitioning as it formats your sd card first.

Thanks for the info!
Ive been using DT Apps2sd for a while now. I have the stock 8gb card that came with my evo and its partitioned for apps2sd. From what Ive always understood, what apps2sd does is it moves all your apps and the data for those apps to the ext partition of your sd card and it symlinks the apps to the phone so the phone actually thinks the apps are running from the internal memory even though it isn't. The advantage of the symlink is that it doesn't affect the apps' performance and widgets and such. The apps2sd app you speak of only moves the data to the sd card which can sometimes cause issues with apps' performance and widgets not working correctly. So, I recommend using DT apps2sd if you want more internal space without sacrificing performance.
Nice explanation I think my confusion had always been how it's utilized; with the app, I open it when I want to move something and it does it. With DT, it looks like you flash it, but after that I'm lost... Does it automatically install all apps to the SD anytime I initiate an installer action? Or do I need to do something to have the system install to the SD?
I'll find the answer in my reading I'm sure. Another 25ish pages, according to Tapatalk on my phone

Also am trying to find how to install this... Do you flash the ROM, flash A2SD, then simply reboot and all is well (assuming the ROM supports A2SD, and mounts SD-EXT during boot)?
here is some more info from what i understand. flash your rom, flash dt a2sd and reboot. once its all set, it automatically installs apps you download to the ext partition. also... if you decide to change roms, it is recommended to wipe the ext partition, but i never do and have had no issues. The only thing i have to do is once the new rom and a2sd are flashed and i reboot i have to install the terminal app and open it up any type the following commands...
su [ENTER]
a2sd reinstall [ENTER]
this reinstally the links to the apps... you can also move dalvik cache to the sd to free up more space.
a2sd cachesd [ENTER]
another helpful tool to make sure cache and apps are on the ext partition is apps2sd gui
you can get it from the market and it is just a graphical interface
here is a partitioning walkthrough if you need it.

After you flash DT, you would want to download terminal emulator from the play store and type the following commands:
Type "su" then enter
Then type "a2sd reinstall" (without the "" of course lol) then enter
After you do that, let the phone do its thing and it will reboot. After the reboot, you are good. All your apps should be moved to the ext partition on your sd card. If you want, you can also move your dalvik-cache to the ext partition by typing the following commands:
"su", enter
"a2sd cachesd", enter
Just like before, your phone will do its thing in terminal emulator and then it will reboot. After that, you're good! You should notice a HUGE difference in available internal storage after this.
*EDIT: I didn't even notice the post above mine until after i sent the post lol
dbenney/youngchris: You guys/girls (hey, I don't know...) put the missing pieces together for me I didn't realize that you had to run commands in terminal AFTER flashing your ROM and then DT (I've seen references to commands, but thought that they were similar to the old rooting/flashing guides back in the day, that required ADB push/pull commands before flashable zips became the norm). So...
There were a few ROMs I flashed 6 months or so ago, that 'required' A2SD and I didn't do it. Subsequently, the ROMs didn't have much free space, with all of the Sense 3.0-3.5, and ran like ****, so I went back to CM7. Now, I am putting this together, so I can get the E4G decked out (because we all know our EVOlt won't be around for a while) and am looking for sharp looking/behaving ROMs to make this old beast happy, and keep me satisfied until Customs gets off their lazy asses.
I just have to find a ROM that is nice enough now

There are plenty of good sense roms out there, but you really should try this one... Energy sense 3.5 rom march 15.... i used it before i switched to CIUI(base of CM7 with MIUI look/feel). Energy rom is very stable and fast, but also heavy and a2sd is a must to free up some space.
Do you know of any kernels that work with it? It uses the stock kernel, which, from what I've read, doesn't support DT A2SD...

I apologize if this has come up before and I'm just not finding the answer, but I've seen others describe this problem with no solutions offered.
I'm running Paranoid Android off my Nook color, CWM 5.5.0.4 Racks recovery, no alternate, all on the emmc. I used leapinlar's partition fixes prior to flashing PA 3.6 originally, then used it again when I clean wiped to install PA 3.69. I originally ran CM7 off an SD card and for some reason it did take awhile to get CWM to work off the emmc, but once I finally got it flashed, it worked beautifully.
The problem I'm having is with the write access to the emmc and sd cards. It cropped up when I first installed PA 3.6 to the emmc and at first I chalked it up to a flash problem running CWM from the SD rather than emmc. However, when I fixed CWM to flash off the emmc and clean installed PA 3.69, the same problem was there: both the emmc and SD card (when inserted) is marked as read only and problems come up when, say, trying to download files through the browser, from dropbox, box. or goo manager.
Under goo manager, I could see the default download folders were simply wrong though even when the pointer is fixed, it will only download when the external SD card is inserted. While under dropbox I only get the "storage is full or unavailable" or "error exporting..." messages, under box I get the message that I don't have permission to download to storage. I saw under one thread this type of problem was chalked up to a hardware issue, however, not only can I download under goo to the proper folder on the emmc when I have an SD card inserted (browser will download to the SD when inserted), but all my write access is normal under CWM (I can nandroid to the internal storage, no SD card present, without any issues). In addition, there are no issues with the caches and how the system runs in general, nor do I have any problems downloading and installing programs from the play store. So I'm wondering if this could be a user permission issue rather than a hardware issue? "Fix permissions" under CWM is the only reference I know to this possibility but does nothing to fix this problem. I also notice most apps are defaulting to /storage/sdcard which may be a big part of this issue, though it still doesn't explain why all storage is marked as read only in Settings -> Storage, or even if the two events are related!
Whatever it is, I'm about at the end of my skills here and any help would be appreciated!
It is very normal for apps to default to /storage/sdcard.
And fix permissions in CWM only fixes permissions in /data, not the media partitions where you are having the issue.
When the media partitions are mounted at startup they are set up to turn read only if they encounter read/write errors during operations. It sounds like this is what is happening to you. I know in CM10 that the operating system was much quicker to trigger that read only option than in earlier CM versions. It may be true in PA too. The usual solution is to get a better quality SD (SanDisk class 4), but you say it is happening to emmc media too.
Why are you running my partition repair zips when changing systems? That seems unnecessary. It may be somehow related to your issues.

The flash of the partition fix files was predominantly to see if there was an issue from the original flash created when I installed PA 3.6. My install of 3.6 would never boot normally and required an SD with a recovery in order to boot at all. My thinking was that, since I never got a recovery installed correctly on emmc that something may have been screwed up when I flashed the partition fixes and/or PA originally causing the write errors that I was getting. Once I had the recovery installed correctly on the emmc, I used that to reflash the partition fixes then updated to PA 3.69 since I had wiped everything in the process. However, the write issues remained in the new install though CWM works wonderfully off of emmc now.
Are there any logs I can check to see if encountering read/write errors could be the problem? I can try going back and installing CM7 to see if I get any of the same issues, but I believe on other systems the partition structure is changed between upgrading from CM9 to CM10. Do I need to watch for any of those issues on the nook color as well?
Thank you very much for your help!

There are no partition changes for any version of CM on the NC. And CM7 may give you better write performance.
For logs, go to Terminal Emulator and type dmesg. You must enter superuser mode first by typing su. It will give you a long log you can scroll through.
