Hey, Is there any Tether apps for winmo that can share mobile network that is not using ad-hoc mode?
I want this because android is not supporting ad-hoc networks.
All you would need to do is configure your network in "Settings\Connections\Connections" unless I've misunderstood your question.

I want to share my phone's internet with an android device.
with every program i have tried it shows up on my computer as a Computer to Computer network. and since android dont support ad-hoc networks it does not even show up on the android device.
You can try this cab, I haven't tested with Anrdroid but I see no reason it wouldn't work.
thanks, but it still wont show on on my android or ipad
Sorry, I thought for sure it would show as a Wifi access point.

there are 3 types of wifi in my school student, faculty and guest. WM device cannot connect to student, once I do it, the network will recognize it as a really computer and ask me to download Cisco Clean Access. But iphone and Android do not have to do that, those device can only use student ID to logo in, thats it...
Is there some way for WM device to do that? so that I can use a much faster network.
meaby that will suck to you but..
why not port android distro on hd?
and that way you can have your fast net on the touch of the finger
How about changing the "user agent" of opera browser to the same string as in android?. Some one using that here can provide the string..
Is your wifi with certificates? Do you have them on your hd?
If so, try setting the power mode of the wireless lan to best perfomance, not best battery!!! That helped me in our university.

uh...let me see, is that typing "opera:config" in the opera and find the user agent? then, what to do?
right now, im using the Mobile Opera 10 version.
And I used to think find a way to let the network recognise my device as an Android phone or iPhone OS? therefore, I think the network will not ask me to download any software...but I dont know how to do that....

uh...the wifi do not need certificates. When i use that through my laptop (XP OS), I need to download a "Clean Access Agent" software, and an Antivirus software(McAfee), then use my student id to log in. but for iphone, Mac or android, they just need to use student id to log in(open a web browser and there is a web page pop up ask you to type in your student id) without downloading any software.
I think the power mode has nothing to do with my current situation, because I can get the wifi signal pretty well, just cant use the student wifi (only can log in guest wifi, becuase guest do not need any software, but very very slow....)
Thx anyway!

wm is for power users, you probably need domain to log into wpa2 enterprise and/or 802.1x security. ask you IT department
Now I know it's possible to get an Ad-hoc connnection using things like WMWiFiRouter and the likes, but one thing I've noticed is that you can get your phone to act as an Infrastructure WiFi Access Point when running Android. Now I ask, is this possible in Windows Mobile too? I don't want to switch to Android every time I want to use it.
I ask because a couple of my devices can't see Ad-hoc networks.
I know it's not possible by default because of the wireless driver WM uses (as opposed to the Android one). Now I don't know if there are any custom drivers or applications that use them, but I haven't heard of any.

Ok, so I'm guessing this post, and the lack of other responses, tells me I will have to use Android for infrastructure Wi-Fi sharing then.

well it would be no different than wifi tethering a PC to a WM 6.5 device.
Here are some instructions: http://tinyurl.com/2elf5jd

Hmm. That's not the right time for a lmgtfy.
It's not an easy thing to find out.
My guess is NO, from my experience. Most Windows Mobile WiFi tether apps ONLY do AD HOC. I don't think the PS3 can connect to AD HOC.

Android broadcasts as Ad Hoc as well doesn't it?
Noob question... How do I install this ad-hoc support onto my X5?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754961
Tried doing this myself, it seems like our wpa_supplicant is different from other Android phones. Even using the V0.6.10 wpa_supplicant ad-hoc fix meant that WiFi would not enable.
Rats I really wanted to get that going
How did you install it? Even if it doesn't work I still want to know how
Ideos X5 / Huawei U8800
Disable WiFi
Replace stock WPA_Supplicant
Enable WiFi
Then should work, but it just gets stuck and disables WiFi.
Although, I was watching logcat and it seems it is checking the wrong location for the wpa_supplicant.conf. Although, even placing it there doesn't allow it to correctly function.
Let's just pretend I'm so noob I don't even know how replace stock WPA_Supplicant *cough*

You can enter recovery-mode (holding both volume-buttons and power-button on startup) and connect the phone to a pc, then replace the /etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf with the custom file.
Or
Get the custom conf-file to your phone and copy-paste it to /etc/wifi/ with rootexplorer (don't forget to check "mount R/W" in rootexplorer)
Sweet, thanks guys.
Pity you said it doesn't work
I really want to find a way to create/join a network between my phone and my netbook
Creating a hotspot on the phone just seems to share the phones internet, and I can't access the netbook from the phone. Will have to try find another way

Isn't that exactly what he doesn't want to do?
I think he's trying to access the phones files wirelessly similar to Doubletwist Airsync or Kies Air.
Have a look at android sync manager.

Connectify allows you to turn you pc into a wireless ap, It will allow his phone to talk to the rest of his network and internet.
This gets around the need to get android to connect to a ad-hoc wifi.
I've tried connectify, but I can't install it on my version of Windows (Win7 ThinPC, which supports .Net 4 only. I think Connectify is .Net 3.5)
I'm trying to use foobar2000 controller: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cav.foobar2000controller
It makes a connection with http to the laptop
Any way I can change the tread title now that original question is no point cause it doesn't work anyway?

Can somebody give me the Stock 2.3.5 wpa_supplicant
Hi guys, I'm still hesitate to root and change the wpa file for wifi ad-hoc, and I think it'll be just even faster if we can use the USB to connect the phone as a modem. I have TP2 windows mobile, does anyone know if that's possible, or any app for that? Thanks.
hmmmmm
Been years since I have used Windows Mobile, but had a similar issue with my Samsung Intercept - the only wifi tethering apps I could find only supported ad_hoc connections.
Finally found a program that supported full infrastructure mode - was a lot easier that way.
A quick search of xda turned up something that might help you out: I used search terms "windows mobile infrastructure" as my terms and found my way here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357152
I think it is commercial software, but there seems to be a demo/trial thing going.
Best of luck - hope you get it working!

Thanks, but that's WMwifirouter, and only gives you ad-hoc, to my understanding, I'm using the latest version of the paid version of it.

I've tried different ways to tether-by-USB an HTC Touch Pro2 (Windows Mobile 6.5) to the Iconia A500 (Android 3.1). I tried both Internet Sharing and PdaNet unsuccessfully on a rooted A500 with a couple different versions of a modified wpa_supplicant file. No joy.
I ended up successfully using the trial version of WMWifiRouter on the TP2 to create a wifi hotspot for the Iconia. (I tried the USB method first on WMWifiRouter, but that didn't work.) I'll purchase the app as soon the trial expires--maybe someone will figure out a way to USB-tether the Iconia to WM 6.5 before then.
