I feel like an idiot right now...
I've been reading and watching videos on rooting android phone's, and my friend told me about the z4root app. So I downloaded it, installed it and chose permanent root. The phone restarted but there was no superuser app. So I went back into z4 and chose permanent root again. It did it's thing and the phone restarted, only for it to get stuck on the samsung logo screen (where the samsung white logo glows blue around the edges).
It did this for 10mins until i turned the phone off, and removed the battery. Now each time I turn it on it does the same thing. Longest it has been on is 17mins (still going now) and nothing..
Please anyone, help me with anything. Should I just try get it serviced? Or will they see the z4 thing? Could anyone explain flashing back to stock to me? I really don't get it if that could help. D=
You need to reflash it.
Indeed, had the same issue: just try again with same ROM or download another one... Reflash & you're probably ready to go.
Better start watching videos on Flashing. .your problem ll be solved bro ;-)

SOS! HELP ASAP! WHAT DO I DO NOW?
I have a similar problem. First off, I'm a newb to android stuff and don't know a whole lot(especially technical terms like bootloader, flashing, etc.) because im not a good computer guy. But after researching online and reading some forums, i really want to update my phone to gingerbread because the HK froyo version can't get flash or most froyo apps.
When i heard the CM GB ROM, i downloaded odin and flashed it. Afterwards, the rom manager clockworld page popup and i rebooted the phone off course. Now everytime i boot up my phone, it gets stuck on the CM7 logo page and keeps loading and reloading for 30 sec. and continue to popup and do the whole sequence again. HELP PLEASE! THIS IS MY ONLY PHONE AND MY MOM IS GONNA KILL ME IF SHE FIND OUT! If theres a way, please tell me.
P.S- I am very stupid so please explain in simple way but elaborate details.

JPF also in the thread of stock roms...
TRY REFLASHING THE CURRENT ROM
Download this and flash it. The problem is that the datafs.rfs is corrupted so the datafs.rfs in this rom has been removed and the datafs.rfs has been taken from the xxjps rom.

Did you do the wipe data/factory reset after flashing the rom through clockworkMod? Also wipe the dalvik cache through recovery and give the phone all the time it needs to boot up, do confirm that the phone is charged, say more than 70% before doing that.

I tried to unroot my phone via OCLF from the market. It went dark, then got the normal Vibrant screen, the the Galaxy S screen, then it went dark again. Now, it just sits. Black screen. All the buttons at the bottom are lit up. :-/
Anyone?
Silly question, I know. But did you have a nandroid backup, by any chance?
This is probably a last resort, but try boot into recovery and wipe everything. This fix the problem for me, the downside is you lose all you data.

If you are anything like me, recovery didn't work and using Odin and reflashing Stock with repartition didn't work either.
You'll need to use odin to flash Eugenes "Vibrant that doesn't brick" (NO REPARTITION), then use odin again to flash Stock (check repartition this time) and you'll be good to go.
You can try to flash the froyo rom with odin...... I had that same exact problem and this is what fixed it for me. Once froyo us flashed then you can flash whatever rom you want. Hth
Ok, I probably should have stated that I'm a complete newby and have no idea what I'm doing. I believe I do have nandroid, but other than that you all are speaking French to me.
Right now I'm in the recover mode (I think). It's hooked up to my computer and I'm in the "Downloading... Do not turn off target!!" mode. This is where I'm stuck...I have no idea where to go from here.
Please talk to me like I'm a 5 year old, because as far as this is concerned, I am!
Oh, and thank you so much for any help you can give me!

Well, good news is... you didn't brick your phone, this is recoverable. Best idea would be to search the forums on how to ODIN back to Stock. Theres plenty of posts on how to do it. You should also be able to find this in the tips & tricks threads. Good Luck.
Thank you all for your help! I recovered it!! Seems as though I was just going about it the wrong way!! I got into the actual recovery mode and cleared it all out. Now it's as good as new!
Again, appreciate your help and patience with what I'm sure is the 120,000th post on this subject. ;-)

Thats also the problem as described in front : I have had no chance to received the DL Mode.. maybe I make something wrong? The phone is booting up till the "S" is there, after that, the screen is black, keys are lightning...
The recovery 3button are blocked from the beginning; the DL Menu - I did not have reached it successfully
The PC recognize, that is something on USB, but not what ... so Odin did not see the Mobile, too.
i got the JI6 update (or J16, not sure which it is) and installed it. Now its just stuck on the power on screen, plays the little t-mobile tune(but not the animation) and sits there for the rest of time.
I have a 2 nandroid backups, tried the most recent one with clockwork, and that didnt help, im trying the older one now...
It was rooted with LagFix. Can anyone help?
You need to restore via odin...
Can you link a thread please, i dont know anything about odin, or how to use it. Thank you
Bumping in hopes someone will assist me in my noobness
Welcome to the club... This happened to me this morning and i'm trying to get it to work again via ODIN now.

i tried the 3 buttons methond and it doesn t work... please what can i do i don t want a 400$ piece of papper... pleasee
thx in advance!
Well all I can say is its your fault. Posting in the right section always helps too, its against the rules to post anything undev related in development. You should have read all the guides before flashing your phone. Posts like these pop up everyday, what's so hard about reading. To get back into download mode you'll have to make a jig, there's no other way.

It's a crying shame that people don't read the warnings plasted all over these forums
Make sure you have working 3 button download/recovery before flashing anything
i have ... the 3 button working friend and the darky rom was working by the way so i had read all that... don t judge me because it s not my first rom that i have flashed... i have also a HTC DHD and i downgraded and s off and many other things without eny problems ... but this.. i don t know how...
by the way i ve managed to go in the CWM recovery... eny sugestions?
i also tried again to restore the backup but with the same result...
thread can be closed thx
My original issue got resolved thanks to s15274n. This mans ROOT walkthrough is amazing!!!!!
NOW I have a problem getting my ROM to load.
Im trying to Install the Malice ROM. and nothing is going quite as smoothely as I think it should.
This is attempt 2, the first time I waited an hour to try and install this rom, straight from SD, and I think the furthest it got was "installing ROM"
nothing. pull the batery out (I assume thats a total noob move, and at beast ill-advisable.) rebooted, went about my day. well, im trying again, and now the furthest ive gotten is "Installing update" the status bar is never filling or scrolling though.
Whats the problem? (going on about 15 minutes with no change btw)
You must use Odin to either
-Flash back to stock so you can reinstall packages
or
-Flash a voodoo integrated kernel so you can flash roms w/ CWM/Voodoo Recovery
Download a voodoo kernel and flash it using odin.
ok, I have the kernal and I have ODIN. once again I have never used ODIN< I definately used a one click root.
does anybody have a link to a thread with *detailed*, hold my hand, walk me through it and pat me on the butt at the end Instructions on this? It's a learning process and damn if im not learning something by the time this is all said and done lol.
last time it sat still for me when it said installing update, it was a bad download. I redid my download of the rom and it went through fast and smoothly. Thats how i fixed my prob maybe it will fix it for u.

do you have the .pit and .tar files? Also, are you turning your phone off? There is an awesome guide by s15274n called the noob guide. It goes over very specifically how to root, it also has a small tutorial on rooting using ODIN3. Search the q&a forum, i believe thats where the guide is.
Also just to clarify, im not saying ur a noob or inept, im just saying its a super awesome guide. My phones neen rooted for three days now, ive flashef a bunch of roms and i always flash nack to stock...REALLY helpful tutorial. Good Luck!
Hi my Defy experts....hope you all doing alright.....
Right im just stuck in middle of nowhere and im confused...
Let me debrief whats going on
My friend gave me his motorola defy blur which was running 2.2.2
he asked me to root it (as i have done with my galaxy s2 and moto xoom )
I downloaded and installed 2init and restarted phone twice and waited for blue blink and it was going into CWM recovery...so thats fine
Than i used superoneclick to root it which went fine and done correctly...
Than i installed Cwm 7.2 via recovery and wiped data/cache/dalvik bla bla all went smooth and installed gapps...
And reboot and everything was working fine...
Than my friend used phone dont know what the hell he did....Green light was blinking when he gave me so i thought let me restart it...it might work fine...but since than it gets stuck on the google logo of cwm....i have tried going in recovery and doing wipe and everything but it wont go past the bootloop
So here im confused, that what am i supposed to do and what is the issue...
I am not sure what actually has gone wrong and what needs to be done...
If someone can guide me through it that where is the issue and how to tackle it ..i will really appreciate it...
I have searched the forum the conclusion im coming at is that do i have to flash a sbf via rsd4.9 to get phone working...and if i do i assume the phone will go back to whichever sbf version i download...can i after that install cwm7.2 again.....
and will this issue arise again....
Thats quite long right sorry
So waiting for replies people...
looks like kernel problem...first download CM7 kernel and try to flash it through recovery..
try and let us know
A noob question....
Which kernel exactly shall i flash ? and if u can provide me the link....it will be helpful
Have you even the blue LED?
If yes, then went to the CWM and install the CM7***.ZIP again.
If no, then you must flash a brand new SBF like that one:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umt...SAJORDANRTGB_P026_A007_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf.gz
Its the retail british SBF.

go here
http://m.cfa.aero/misc/CM7_Kernel-signed.zip
I have just done that again.....
I am getting blue led light went in recovery and wipe data and everything than flashed my cwm7.2 again and still gets stuck at google boot image....
Could it be that i directly flashed cwm7.2 and not cwm7 first ? but it should not be an issue right ?
i think i will try the kernel change option
Ok i think we have a bigger problem now....
when i did the CMW signed.zip in recovery and restarted it..it hanged again on google boot image....so i had to take battery out
and after that i turned it back on
now its showing me this BLACK screen which is saying
Bootloader
09.10
Code corrupt
Battery ok
ok to program
Transfer mode:
USB ( when i connect to laptop)
NOthing else happening..... NOW WHAT ?

You should download RSDLite and the flash a suitable sbf (possibly Froyo)... Check this link for the sbf that you like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537 I recommend using a Froyo sbf since these are less risky and can be rooted easily... I have RSD Lite v 5.3.1.. you should get a download link somewhere here... Best of Luck!
