I'm a bit of a newb at tweaking this phone, okay so I've had it a year and done a lot of the basic hacks, and have lurked here since I got it. However, for quite a long time I've been wanting a new theme and could never figure out how to do it. That was until yesterday when I found ThemeGenCE. I have to say it's a simple program to use and I made my first skin, almost exactly how I want it, in a matter of a half hour or so.
Well, I tore off to work and showed some friends and they wanted it to until I discovered the dialer buttons are still the default blue ones. Of course you could imagine my hurt when I discovered it. So now I'm pouring over all I can to find out how to make my own pad or at least find an easy tool to change the colors up a bit and maybe the text. I've read a lot of what is here and, sheepishly, am very confused.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or even just a good finger pointing would be phenomenal. As well, I'll include the skin if any should want it. Hope you're Boondocks fans.

UPDATE - Okay after reading the themegen help file a bit I don't see how to compress and distribute my theme without the software so I'll just include all the files it says it used. *sigh* The newbism strikes again. Also here are some screen caps.
Screen Cap 1
Screen Cap 2
I'm new to the whole customization here. I know how to install a few things, but not quite sure what all i need. I have the 8525 and I want to change my theme. I want some of the features that this phone has:
phone at top
how do i get the weather to look like that- and at the top of the screen
is that a seprate program, or what.
also the icons under that. thanks for any help
the weather thing is called htc home, you can find it all over this forum. in fact, someone just has another thread on this in this very forum with a download link in there.
and the icons at the bottom......the name is in the thread title of that link
Sorry guys, just figured it out, and thought it would have been more complicated. Turns out I wasn't asking much
Mate, word of advice, before you start flashing OS's PLEASE READ A BIT AND HARD SPL YOUR PHONE.......(makes it easier to recover if/when something goes wrong) I think most people have had experiance with a brick at one time or another...
We dont mind helping out with stuff ( it can be fun to help and gives a nice fuzzy feeling when things go right) but if you research a bit first you will generally find your question has been answered MULTIPLE times over. If you still have problems ask away... Answers will be more forthcoming when people see some research has been done...
Anyways, Welcome and happy flashing...
NOTE -DOLLARS AVAILABLE TO ANY DEVELOPER FOR THIS PROJECT
I am looking for a developer to write a small utility that will remove the black lines on a Today screen that surround/delineate each Today item. The attached picture should help people to understand what I mean (see where the RED arrows are pointing).
The end result should be that any item seen on the Today screen will not have these black lines, leading to a clean, seamless look.
I was certain there was a registry hack for this; however after 2 months of fruitless searching on here and requests in other threads I have not found what I am looking for.
So what's different this time? Well, I will now pay someone to create a utility programme to achieve what I am looking for.
Interested and able to help? Please PM me.
Many thanks
WB
There's already an application which removes them... I ... crap, can't remember what it is. i'll search for it and let you know unless someone beats me to to it.
Nir,
Thanks. look forward to seeing what you can find.

same as my problème?

thanks advance
It's the utility to change the colors of the today screen, I can't remember either.

i believe this is it.
hi this tool is awesome I didn't knew it, thanks for sharing
But it is not the tool asked, it is only to change the theme and the entire color of your phone
You could use Ultimate Launch. It doesn't display the lines between plugins.
It offers a few other perks too
All,
Many thanks for the various responses. I have used UI Tweaker several times to try to achieve what I want and while you can change the colour of the lines you can't entirely get rid of them.
As for Ultimate Launch, have also used that as an alternative UI but I don't like it I'm afraid.
The request is therefore still open for a developer to take me up on it unless someone comes up with an existing solution that does the job as I set out.
Appreciate the help so far.

+1, I would be happy too if there is way to delete those lines
maybe i was wrong about UI Tweaker then.. because i KNOW there's an app to remove the lines.. i used one. i'll search again.
Nir 36,
Thanks in advance for looking. Hope you find the item. This has been a very long quest for me.

Click to collapse
LOL you.. here? wahou
UI tweaker I try to but not work
yeh
I'm everywhere too ...
Still no idea guys... ?
Yeah. I originally asked here about this on XDA-Dev's about 3 or 4 years ago. The only response that I really received was that the lines are coded in to the shell32.exe or possible gwei.exe [sic]. I know that Wisbar Advance Desktop and a few other programs will remove the lines. However, those programs have a lot of other functions that some people may not want.
Here's my original post from '05.

I can't believe you made your request so long ago and are still waiting for a solution.
I agree with you that all that is required is a small utility to achieve this. Just looking for a talented developer on here to take this on. I am absolutely serious about paying someone to do this so its worth their while.
There are a fair few people who want this so its over to you guys, unless Nir36 finds the tool he says he knows of.
Thanks
WB
I'm sorry, i can't find it. I searched everywhere... so it's one of 2 things.
either i'm senile and i used UI Tweaker, or it's just... gone.
if i manage to find it sometime i'll post it.
I would be willing to give some $ to, If some one would like to make a app, for this.
Thanks T M Z
apparntly i got theme to be "transparent" because my background was black
You can achieve this, if you don't change theme too often and if your theme (TSK) file isn't with draws, with a tool like UI Tweaker from Victor Wong (http://mobile-sg.com), with the excellent ThemeGenCE (PC tools to modify the TSK file or with SKTools (in color tweaks)
Put the 'Today Screen horizontal Bar' at a very close color of your theme... The bars will be 'erased' (you won't see them...)
Hope this helps...
Please someone tell me I'm not being incredibly dense and that I actually have a valid problem that hasn't been addressed elsewhere on the forums. I assure you I have searched for a solution to this but can find nothing pertaining to the desire... I did find other posts but they have all been for the Droids (like pulldown editor)
As a new user I can't post links but to see the screenshots of what I'm about to talk about but please see the attachments at the bottom for an idea.
I really don't want my phone to say Virgin all over it...I just want a generic 'I'm Awesome' message or alternatively nothing. 'Virgin' takes up lots of room on the notification bar that would be better spent notifying me of things...!?
I tried to resolve the problem using MetaMorph...which required root access...and despite Paul (thanks coming shortly) saying we wouldn't be able to write to the /system folder, I just hoped (blindly (and foolishly)) that it would work. But it didn't.
Now I have a rooted HTC Desire that works in every respect but I still can't get rid of those Carrier titles...and thats the only thing I want to do. Does anyone have any ideas or solutions...is it blatantly obvious?
I've pulled my /system folder over but I don't even know what I'm looking at... If anyone can give me a heads up, that'd be great.
Cheers
M
I must note here a massive thanks to Paul who's root instructions were amazingly easy to follow. I know this is the wrong place for it but a massive thanks to him.
so i was checking out the forums.... did some searching and kinda got lost... so i decided it was time to join and see what i can find out..... got my evo a couple days ago... first thing i thought when checking out my phone is how i can change the theme...
i figured that such a powerful phone it should be possible to do it.... well i found themes and other info... but it all seems contradictory.... some sites and info it seems i need to "root" my phone (which i'm not sure what that is still).... others say i need to "rom" my phone (again still not sure what that is either)...
so what do i need to know to change the theme of my phone? what other things should i know about my phone (besides the basics i read in the guide)?
is it possible to create my own theme for the phone? or is it very complicated?
sorry if this is a repost i did search and as i said i kinda got lost and confused.. it's obviious you all are smart and some of the terms and info you put out kinda has me scratching my head.... it there's a way to explain it simply i can probably understand...
i feel the same way
Well it took em a few days to figure out everything.. I am too a new evo user..i managed to root my evo, add a custom theme and kernel and change my banner..i had figured it out all on my own..theres a evo wiki that might help you...
thanks banks.... i'll look into it...... but thanks to fachadick i learned a little what i needed to know.... my next step was to learn how to root and add roms and the like.... i'll look into that wiki....
the reason you get a lot of different information depending on where you look is because there are multiple options for themes depending on what exactly you are looking for. there are some things that can be done without root. for example many launchers (OpenHome ADW etc) will let you download themes made for it which give you different icons and backgrounds. Other options are to go with a launcher liek Launcher Pro and youcan change your dock around a lot, you can download folder organizer or application organizer and make folders with custom icons, you can use better cut to change icons on single applications. All these you can do with out needing root.
what you will need root for is if you want a theme that changes the rosie UI, changes the menus(ie adds color) or changes the notification icons\color of the top bar, and even changing fonts used by the rosie ui itself
if you dont care about that stuff then you dont actually have to root, though i suggest it anyway, to change your theme.
