Create Notifications folder on the SD Card and put there this .ogg file
(folder Ringtones for call sounds)

Ive managed to set my audio files as ringtones but is it possible to set them as a SMS recieved tone?
yip, put the file in the map windows on your mobilephone and choose this file as your receive email sound. PS: i didnt test it with wma but it must work!!!
I'm almost sure its the New sms option in the sounds and notifications , not the new e-mail one.
in fact you can choose sound for many notifications in settings/phone/other settings/ and chose email, sms, even msn messenger notification sound.
when i test it i can only choose my alien.wma
when i change the phonering in notifications
it's not present on the list if i choose sms recieve or mail recieve
You have to copy the file in the \Windows directory and il will then appear listed for SMS too
As far as I know (on XDA I), you can only assign wma files to ringtones. SMS tones need to be wav.
It seems they use different audio engines.
i've tried to copy it to windows and windows/rings
and non of those locations matter to the list of my
sms notification or any other non phone edition spc
notification for that matter
i tried that too, and i conclude that it's not possible to set wma files to sms notification... it has to be wav...
regards

sms tones
Hi there.
Actually, there is a way to use wav files for sms tones.
Put your desired wav file in the \windows folder.
Go to Notifications, messaging:new text message and voila! use your wav file as your SMS tone.
Not with MP3, that is not possible!
well i lied a bit lol ! an mp3 converted to a wav file almost an mp3 !!! tried the above still cant get it to add it to the standard ring tones ie the alarm1 alarm 2 and so on !

alarm 1 , 2, 3, 4, default ,hwandsw ,infbeg ,infend ,loudest ,lowbatt ,menupop msgbox ,notify ,online ,quietest ,recend ,type ,voicbeep

Sms more rings how solution.
Copy a wav file in the windows directory (in your PDA),, now go to Sound & Notification and see if you got that file under "TEXT MESSAGE" in the list. :? :?
Sidd
thanks guys got that sorted now !!
I use this phone as a pager, and I'd like to change the SMS text msg tone to something loud and annoying. How / where do you install new sms tones?
I'm running a Cingular 8125, and I'm about to upgrade firmware later tonight.
Thanks,
Dan
Place the wav file or whatever you are using in the \windows directory and it would show up on the list in settings\sounds & notifications
  Pager....
I'm an idiot... I was trying to use a .mid file and it appears it only will take a .wav.
Thanks!
Also works for the new HTC HD2.
just put the converted .wav file into the windows directory and presto.
now available in msg tone selection
Is there any way to change the small "bleep" (or blip) indicator tone when you send a text message?
Cormac
Go to Settings-Sound & Notifications.
Which one is it in there - I couldn't find it

from http://www.pocketpctweaks.com/pocketpc_tweaks/change_SMS_Sent_sound
Change the SMS sent sound
This will possibly change the sound of other pop-up messages but it does work for SMS and I MUCH prefer it this way. \HKCU\ControlPanel\Notifications\Default Change the Wave key from msgbox to any other .wav file in the Windows directory (don't include the .wav extension). I changed it to hwandsw.
hey just paste your wav tone in your windows folder and WALLA! you can now select the tone on the notifcations. ps only wav tone can be us. have fun
Thanks Raymonds,
That worked perfectly.
For everyone else, you need to fix the registry to do this. Changing notifications can only change the message REVEIVED tone and NOT Sent Tone

Is there a way to change the text messaging alert sound to something i make up? From my computer,
1. does it have to be mp3 or midi or wav?
2. where do i save the file so it will show up as one of my audio options....
Thanks in advance
Put a sound file into your \windows directory, go into settings/personal/sounds & notifications, I'll assume you can figure it out from there.
Device\Application Data\Sounds
That is where you are to place custom ringtones, and i believe that they appear for Text Messages too...just not for Alarms
Does anyone know if you can change the text message sent notification??
for it to work it has to be a .wav
