Hi. I'm thinking about flashing my first ROM on the Droid X. I've been using rooted GB for awhile and I'm finally just getting bored and ready to try something different. I really am not looking for much though. My order of prefs are:
Stability > Battery Life > Performance
Mods and tweaks and things of that nature are not really a huge concern for me. I just want everything to work well, and have great battery life. I'd love to hear some suggestions.

i know this is gonna sound funny maybe.
i have a vzw droid-x that i am running the alltel rom on.
i put the phone in airplane mode and enable:
wifi off never
power savings wifi always on
i get at least 24hrs
now the equivalent rom to this would be the vzw 2.2.340
if you do not enable airplane mode and disable everything else i dont see why you would not be able to get the same results.
i get amazing battery life with the rom i said i was using above and dont forget this is with an "always on wifi" never ever disconnects
DSX and Shuji are great candidates for you. DSX is not flashy. It is completely reliable and battery life is stellar. You will not be disappointed. Shuji has great battery life as well and is more customizable. My primary phone always stays on DSX though. Ran 5 straight hours of Netflix and still had 5% left. Not sure too many roms can do that.

I also run DarkSlideX and can verify what is said above. Battery life is excellent. I probably make 20-30 minutes of call a day along with 2-3 dozen texts and 2-4 hours of web, forums, etc. I'm usually off the charger around 6:30am and back on it around 9-10pm with 20-30% battery remaining.
Stability has been awesome as well. I have had one reboot in 2 months, it happened about an hour after flash and that was it. BBCrackman did an excellent job with this.
If you want to try a theme for it, wulf has made some equally as nice themes, too. There are also a few custom sliders and a crt mod, too.
Everything can be found at MyDroidWorld and each has a dedicated thread complete with instructions. Best part is you're already on the pre-rooted 596, so all you should have to do is flash DSX right on top.
EDIT: also, much of the VZW bloat has been removed and it still has some blur present. HDMI support is working, too.

Give apex a try. Very stable and fast. I usually got about 18+ hours on stock battery with heavy usage.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA Premium App
I'm not quite sure how to respond to Apex and 18 hours of HEAVY usage. On a stock battery? Up till now I've never questioned someone's post, but this individual seems to have a serious question he'd like some input on. I don't have to be a modder, developer or themer to know no rom gives 18 hours of heavy use unless it's hooked up to a car battery. And even that may be questionable.

What about vanilla rom?
Thanks for the feedback guys. DSX and Shuji were a couple that had jumped out at me in my readings. I think I'll give them a shot!

Dsx was my first flash and haven't gone looking for another. Stable good battery, I'm a heavy user and smooth.

Just got my Atrix this morning..and am loving how blazing fast it really is. This thing has more horse power than any phone I have ever owned..
I'm coming from a tricked out Captivate OC/UV to 1.3 and it pales by comparison..
I'm not just talking benchmarks....but while watching full hd movies..I can pause and fast forward right to where I slide it without any hesitation at all...no pixelation..no stalls..no FC's...no lag at all...I love it..
I don't have it rooted yet..and no custom rom yet..have to wait out the return period first..just in case it goes bonkers..but I gotta say...anyone on the fence about getting it..you really need to look at one..
I can't wait till I get to oc/uv this one..just to see how much smoother it really can be..

Just ran across your post and thought I'd share my impressions on the battery. I just picked up my atrix last week after returning my infuse 4g. My battery is a beast; this morning I pulled it off the charger at 8am and now its 1:46am...I am still at 50%. I am a heavy user and I am definitely surprised how long the battery last me. I am also 100% stock running gingerbread. (Also have juice defender running). If I had my infuse still and pulled it off the charger at 8am it would hit the 50% mark by 12pm.

I've also got to chime in and say this is the best stock android battery experience I've ever had. Lasts all day with moderate usage, with over 60% when I go to bed at night. Even with heavy usage I'm not running low. I don't plug it in at work like I would my nexus one, and I only charge it in the car if I'm running navigation.

Well...considering I was getting fair life with my Captivate...this one just blows it out of the water...so I think I am getting pretty good stats so far...
I had 9 hours of showing this thing off...I watched 1/2 of Transformers in HD...made 5 phone calls..8 text messages..downloaded 8 programs..played 3 different games and surfed the internet for about 20 minutes..and I am at 60%...so...I guess it's way above average... ?
I'll charge it back up..and see if I get the same amount tonight at work...but I got to say...Moto did right on this one for me..and I am loving it...All the guys at work are miffed...only 2 said I should have held off for the SGSII...and I just laughed...

With all the complaining going on, it's always nice to see people that have everything working and working well.
I am personally extremely satisfied with my self modded stock 2.3.4. The only thing that kind of annoys me is occasional lag of Motoblur. I might just try the Touchwiz port posted somewhere around here while I wait for CM7 final.
Go and install CM7 beta - you'll **** your self with how fast it is.

I'd laugh too, the SGSII apparently has absolutely atrocious battery life. They put it up next to an Infuse 4G with similar usage and such and the Infuse 4G took the cake. I think the Infuse's battery life is horrid, if the SGSII is worse I'll stick with my 30+ hour Atrix!!
Great to hear you guys are enjoying your new Atrices! As for me, i got mine the first day it came out luckily since everyone was so hesitant on getting it! As for the battery life, when i first got it, i would get 16+ hours on heavy phone usage over 8+ hours and with continuous wifi and data when i wasn't in the house.
Only when i started messing around with it by flashing different psuedo-roms did i notice that the battery life was shortened dramatically, so heads up to you new guys, dont forget to wipe your battery stats everytime you flash a new rom!

Got an Infuse and loved the size of the screen.
Had it for a few weeks and thought the size began to become annoying for things like my car cradle, pocket, etc. but I thought it was neat.
Wife's upgrade become available and she didn't like the size of the Infuse, so I told her to get an Atrix cause of the power (was Infuse, Atrix or Inspire and the Atrix made the most sense).
We got the wife's phone on Thursday. I went home, got her a different launcher, set up the stuff she would like on her phone, etc. She loved it. So did I.
It made my Infuse feel like it was running in slow motion. I played with my wife's phone for literally 20-30 minutes setting it up for her.
The next day, as soon as I got off work, I took mine back (had a week left in my 30 days), got my Atrix and (after having to take it back and get a replacement as my first one rebooted constantly) haven't looked back.
I can't believe this thing.
I was talking with a couple guys at work that had them..they got them when they first come out...they had battery issues too..but..I have had other phones with bad batteries before...and just this year .and went through 2 on my Captivate and a new charger...so..If you got one that the battery doesn't last long on..go get a new battery for it..Many folks over look this..and blame custom roms or the phones themselves for bad battery life..Just a FYI for those who have had bad luck with them..
Mac
I recently bought a used Atrix and it had 2.3.4 already installed on it. Coming from a Captivate, I was immediately impressed with the blazing speed of the device. The first day, I ran the phone hard. After 14-hours it was down to about 20%. The display had been on for over 3-hours and I had more than 2-hours of phone calls.
Simply awesome. BL is unlocked and rooted but rom is stock.

I've been pondering over whether or not to upgrade to ICS now as the german version is released. My question is whether or not the battery life is similar to what you get with gingerbread. I've attached an image of what i get on a normal day, when i am at work and use my phone normally and not when i am sitting at home and never let my phone hit deep sleep!
Sure you get a lot of added features but battery life is what i really care about at i need to go sometimes two days without charge.
Got around 74 pct after 9 hrs of extreme light usage.

How does it compare to ICS hour by hour? any difference would you say?
I would skip this Samsung release of ICS. Samsung's interpretation of ICS is not terribly different then GB unless you run a different launcher. I thought battery life was worse on the German release. With the added risk of bricking a few have experienced, don't do it.
If you want try the ICS, go with this one;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627854
With this one, you can easily and safely role back to GB from a nandroid backup. This one does not have Touchwiz and the SPen is not fully functional as it is in TW.
I find battery better on GB personally but not by much when u compare it to the silky smooth quickness of ICS

Any settings i need to change in the application or leave it to run its magic?

Well, if wakelocks aren't the problem.. Then I don't know.. ICS battery life seems better in general, but GB shouldn't be that different (and wasn't for me me I used it). Not that your battery life is bad or anything, but it could be better. Like I said, your phone in deep sleep should hardly use battery at all.
Well looks like I will have to test it out and see the outcome, looks like I shouldn't get my hopes up.

Hi guys, I'm new to this part of the forum coming from a Desire S.
The Desire S forum was a really nice place to be, so I decided to set up an OFF-TOPIC thread. It turned out very well, and is a great place where I made friends and learned tips and advice for both my device and other things in life.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611085
I would like to try it here. I hope this thread will also help to cut down the number of OT post in other threads. (as it has done it the Desire S forum)
Basically, this thread serves as a place for any discussion, for fellow GSII users to hangout! Feel free to talk about anything!
So let's go! How about we start by introducing ourselves?

The only thing i cld complain really at this point is the screen (just resolution, not colours, viewing angles or anything else)

Well I fell asleep last night while the phone was on the charger. When I picked up my phone this morning it was FREAKIN HOT (I mean hotter then it has ever gotten before) and the battery was drained pretty low.
Turned out that my AC adapter went defective overnight and fortunately I had a different AC handy to replace and troubleshoot.

On average how much screen on like do you manage on your phone with around medium brightness?
I'm getting just over 3 hours, but I'm wondering if I should be getting more. My battery is 1 year old already, so it may have already lost its full capacity.
I'm also swaying between the Anker 1900mah and Official 2000mah. Ideally i'd like to keep the same battery cover.
Any thoughts?

I didn't believed that sense based roms were superior than each other on battery or performance basis since htc one x days. But sentinel rom actually gave me a significant boost on battery life on all of my devices. (Nexus 7, HTC One, Nexus 4)
So I'm going to agree with you on this.

I didn't believed that sense based roms were superior than each other on battery or performance basis since htc one x days. But sentinel rom actually gave me a significant boost on battery life on all of my devices. (Nexus 7, HTC One, Nexus 4)
So I'm going to agree with you on this.

Ya. Not sure how exactly they tweak it to get better battery life but I'm happy... The cool thing too is the maker of the Rom takes suggestions from people and implaments them into the roms if he can.

that screen on could be very good (maybe 5 hours?) you need to use Gsam Battery monitor to get the on screen time...
I recommend RGUI.

I believe that it's not really dependent solely on the ROM but there are a lot of factors like usage, brightness and other things that either give you a good or a bad battery life. I have used the stock ROM, Android Revolution HD, and Trickdroid, and I got about the same battery life from both ARHD and Trickdroid (I didn't really keep the stock ROM except for a day or two so I wouldn't know). It's sort of hard to track the usage exactly in order to compare between two ROMs, because I for one use my phone differently every day, depending on how much browsing I do, how many phone calls I get or make, how many dropped signals, the brightness level depending on the lighting condition, and such. I must say, though, that I am extremely happy with the battery life I get from Trickdroid but I cannot say that it gives me a better battery life than ARHD, for instance, because that would merely an unimportant opinion that is not based on facts.

I tried to run a full day similar to that of those with trickdroid, ARHD and RGUI. And I just feel like the battery lasted a little longer on this Rom. I'm not sure if these developers can tweak software to change how long the battery last or not? But it does seem like there is a deference. I guess I should run it for a week or so on each Rom to get a true test. All I know is I love this phone and a longer lasting battery makes me happy as I can use the phone longer
On a side note. I am getting pretty slow speeds on speedtest with LTE. I'm getting 2 to 3 bars? Anyone know what that's about?? I'm only getting like 1.5mbps down and same up??

Been using RGUI for couple days now and it has provided me with the best battery life.

I'm using Trickdroid 7.5 with greenify and wife power saver. I know I have a considerable wakelocks. I have to look for audio in and out wakelock.
