Hi guys,
I am running Android Revolution 3.1 and I got some problems / questions regarding the HTC News Widget.
Somehow this thing bugs me out quite a bit.
I can subscribe / unsubscribe news feeds as I please, and with the official Google Reader application it even syncs with that software.
But I ONLY get unread news on my widget / app from HTC. If one message got marked as read, it greys out in the widget and if I want to reread that news or want to show it a friend, it cant open the news entry and just tells me that it simply cant be opened anymore.
Whats the problem with that HTC Software? I dont get it ...
don't know why you have this problem, but I just tried, it works fine in stock 1.72 here
regards

Hi all
Sorry to post about this again, Samsamuel has been really helpful but we haven't managed to resolve the issue and I think my last thread title was missleading.
A few days ago I went to the friends tab in the Facebook app and selected to 'refresh'. Unlike in the other tabs I didn't get the 'red, blue, yellow, green egg timer thingy', it just sat there until my friends were updated. However, once the update completed I was left with two copies of each friend. One with their new status listed, one with their old.
Now no matter how many times I refresh, I don't get the egg timer and I still have their old status as well as their current.
I have tried un / reinstalling with no joy.
After an uninstall, does facebook leave any files behind that could be getting picked up be the new install, thus carrying the problem over to the fresh install?
Any suggestions would be gratefully received!
Is thi the new facebook cab?? wat version?

just to let you know I never see the 4 color timer on this screen either...not that it helps...just thought you should know.
Its the version available from Windows Marketplace v1.007 I believe.
Mine was working until a few days ago, now like yourself, when i update (i dont get the coloured icon as well) but it does say updating but then displays the old update.
In addition, it will show the small thumbnail photo for peoples photo albums but when you select them, it says "no photos or videos found".
*got mine working again by start / settings / social networks - facebook (turning off then on again so it resynced). worked for me

You/we need to wait fore a update version. this problem of Facebook exist now some several weeks (after thy did some updates on there server!)
Is there any official Statementfrom facebook when a new verson will be available? I hink there should be a schedule from facebook side after the crash a few weeks ago.
In the meantime I am use the Facebook Instant Messenger (fim) which is working quite good beside messaging also for accessing facebook. Try it. Find it under mosko.mobi, google it you will find it.
Hi - does anyone know of a way to change the default twitter app in the friendfeed from Peep to Touiteur (Which IMO is a FAR better twitter app)?? I only got my handset today and it's my first android device - so slowly getting to grips with it!
CHeers,

SWIFT is one of best twitter clients on android

No, sorry, i don't, but in terms of better twitter apps, have you looked at SWIFT ? It's been the new rising star in twitter clients on android.
On a second note: Since I have not yet received my Desire, could you pleas post either screenshots or a list of settings/preferences that DO show for Friendfeed? I ask specifically about setting intervals for refreshing the stream. Does it provide separate refresh rates for each of the feeds, or just one main one, or none at all?
I ask because this is predictably going to be the biggest battery drainer on the Desire, so I am just getting a leg up before getting my device :;
Sorry - i spoke too son and not even checked out:
http://levelupstudio.com/touiteur
looks like a great twitter client -- and what i just found out is it supports the "twitlonger" API, which makes it, to me all the more useful.

Why twitlonger?

Ok, my wife is the one with the Desire, but from using latest version on my Hero.
Just go to Settings> Accounts & Sync
Click on Twitter, then simply click on 'Remove Account'
That will remove all twitter from FriendFeed.
Then simply use whatever other app you want, either by clicking on the app icon to start it, or by installing the app's widget if it has one.

Thanks for this, but I would like to continue using the friend feed, just not use peep as the default app when opening a post from the friend feed.
@quicksite - No settings I can see for refreshing at all...Battery life was pretty poor yesterday, but i did play non stop with my new toy for like 8 hours
Hi Guys
Long time reader of these forums and have used the guides provided here numerous times. This is my first time post and it's a bit of a noob question but after looking around the forums, I haven't been able to provide a concrete answer.
I remember reading about Facebook integration with Android 2.0+ but could someone clarify how vanilla android interacts with Facebook? I am a huge fan of HTC Sense being able to pull down my friends info into my contacts. Also is there a way by which I can back up all my apps and contacts so that when I've flashed a new ROM I can just restore the data?
Again I apologise for the basic questions, but I couldn't seem to find any solid answer through my searches and I'm itching to put 2.2 on my legend.
Much appreciated
Linking Facebook and Google-Contacts works in 2.* as far as the names are the same. Ihaven't found a function like in sense where you can directly point to a specific FB-contact and link it to a google or phone-contact as you want. Regarding your second question, your contacts will be saved @google if you use a googleaccount, for backing up your settings and programs go with TitaniumBackup but your handset has to be rooted for this.
Thanks ^_^ I realised what I'd asked about the contacts only after I'd posted it >.< but all the same thanks for the info
Just btw, which fb app are you using (this goes to everyone) ?
Not a single one I tried so far was good enough.
I have the official fb for android but it doesn't display message whole threads when they are too long and when i click on a notification, it opens up in the browser.
Then i tried fb browser, but that one can't open youtube vids. It tries to open them itself instead of opening them in the yt app, but I'm unable to click on the play button.
the rest is either a copy of these 2, or comletely useless.

I just stick with the default android one...the lesser of the evils out there. But I agree with you in that the apps aren't as good as they could be. Who knows, maybe Facebook will announce some android related news at their mobile event today
I'm using the official one. There is an update, just installed it today. There is now finaly places and when clicking in the notification, no more webbrowser with touch.facebook.com is opened.
I like the friend stream widget from HTC, cause it shows both Twitter and facebook messages. However, when it updates - manually or automatically - it jumps to the top of the list, where the newest message is. Imo that's annoying, I'd rather have it stay at the latest message I already read, so I can read on in a chronological order and don't have to remember where I was.
Is this behaviour controllable? I don't see any option for it in the menu.
I agree, this is dead annoying.
MoTweets on Windows Mobile was great for this. It would update and just put new stuff at the top of what you last read, meaning you could then read up in chronological order. I miss that from the friend stream app.
I think the Twitter app does it fine, but the Facebook app jumps to the top as well, so using them separately is slightly better, but still not great.
The Twitter tab on WinMo HTC Sense did it well too. It canĀ“t be that difficult.
Hi all, has anyone managed to add a new RSS stream to the HTC's news widget? Or to be more specific receiving the news? When I add the stream url it has a red icon indicating that there are no news in the RSS stream. I apologize if the question has been asked before, but the search button seams to crash my XDA App

I was having a bit of trouble doing this as well and when you search for RSS feeds sometimes it doesn't find the correct one, so the best method to sorting this out I found was:
Go to: http://www.google.com/reader and sign in (unless you already are).
From there in the top left-ish you'll see the 'Add a subscription' button, click that and paste the RSS feed and add it, then Sync you phone and the feed should appear on your phone as an available rss news feed.
May not be the most conventional way but I found its pretty quick and easy especially since trying to manually type in the url of a feed into the phone didn't seem to work either.

Didn't work. I tried clearing the data for the HTC News, because it wouldn't unsubscribe from all the feeds I tried to connect to and now the application, as well as the widget woun't even start (I think it can't find any feeds and it just closes)... I tried rebooting the phone but that didn't restore the preloaded feeds (where is that file system protection when you need it ) I forgot to mention that my phone is not rooted, using stock WWE ROM with all the OTA updates applied.
