The sms bug i'm talking about was supposed to have been fixed in 2.3.2 for the Nexus S, but, i have just experienced this supposedly fixed bug with 2.3.3, the bug is the one that sends a reply to a totaly different contact to the one that the reply was intened for, for instance, today i replied to an sms from a contact from within a messange thread but the reply was sent to a totaly different contact.
Anyone else experienced this "supposedly" fixed bug with 2.3.3.
I've never experienced it on 2.3.3. But, I never had it on 2.3.2 either.

get GO SMS.. it fixed it within the app for users who dont have 2.3.2
and 2.3.2 is the version that fixed the SMS bug.. thats why you didnt experience it Zardos66
I used to get this a lot on 2.3.2. But since 2.3.3 I've yet to have this problem again. Although I do still get the random reboots...

ya I guess I've never had this issue either
i've definitely heard this issue, its a serious one and been in android for over 1 year now. google just fixed it recently, so i'd go post in their bug tracker that you still see this issue. its a real bad one.
i use handcent anyway which is immune to this bug, but still. i'd stop using the stock messaging app.

GO SMS has the fix as well. Highly recommend GO SMS, I used to use Handcent but made the switch to GO SMS.

Well i've just experienced this text bug again, in fact, i have experienced it a few more times since i created this thread, there are reports on the net that this bug is still present in Android 2.3.3, has anyone experienced this bug since their last post, or has anyone else experienced this bug, feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I'm still new to the nexus s, about a week on CM7 and no encounter with the bug, hopefully it will stay that way.

Hi all,
My SMS messages have just 'gone'! I had quite a few in there and I didnt restart the phone or anything strange, went back in to reply to one I recevied earlier and there is nothing in there!!
Happened to anyone? Have they really gone or can I get them back somehow. I have a backup, but its from a while back...
Anyone?
Thanks...
This forum should have a sticky thread for this... Just do a quick search and you'll find the relevant info. Short answer: it affects all Android phones and there is no fix, backup your SMS messages for an inevitable restore.

Thanks for answer, although if I had someone to moan to i'd have to quote my favourite 'This is not satisfactory!'
They (Android) can't just allow SMS's to dissappear! They must be going somewhere!!
Someone must know somethign about this by now?...
What's happening is there's a glitch in the sms app which can cause the messages database to become corrupt, rather than try to repair the database, Android, just deletes it.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I've never had this with any of the five Android phones I've owned using the default SMS app. I did once try Handcent on the Hero and all my messages disappeared after deleting a thread but after uninstalling and rebooting they came back.
Were you using the default sms app?
I also recommend Sprite Backup which can back up whatever you need daily either to SD Card or cloud storage provider (I use Dropbox).
just happened to me twice this month after being problem free ever since i bought it in December 2010. At 1st i thought it was because I had too many smses. About 5000. Then the 2nd time it happened...just now..only a few hundred messages. It sucks that there is no fix!
Are you using a 3rd party SMS app (downloaded app)?
Are you using htcsense.com? <-- Known Issue, see sticky.
Please search before you make a new thread.

It's a bug in Froyo, i used to keep having all my messages randomly disappear.
The solution is either keep daily backups using an app like "SMS Backup & Restore" or upgrade to Gingerbread

Valid point but...
And actually I don't believe this is a Froyo bug. If it was a generic issue with Froyo then there'd be a lot more and as I pointed out in that thread, 3rd party apps were used. The htcsense.com sync was also shown to be buggy - HTC themselves admit it's a work in progress.

Unfortunately there are a handful of instances where this is the case. I still don't believe it's a Froyo bug, more just occasional glitches in some handsets.
I really don't mean any disrespect and I'm sorry you're having this issue. Hopefully GB will fix it for you (because the "glitch" will be over-written, just as re-flashing a Froyo stock RUU would probably do to *back peddles quickly*).
[EDIT] Just saw you're other post; Seems GB did fix it.

This topic was started in January, it's not new, just been revived by someone.
I had my SMS messages wipe twice last weekend alone! I use a backup tool now thank-god, which stores my messages in GMail. Dead easy to restore.
Just upgraded to 2.3 also yesterday, will see if this helps.
I am having an issue where a really long text is not being sent out to any nonVerizon customer. Verizon buddies receive the text in multiple parts as normal.
I am trying to determine if this is DL30's issue or my ROM's issue.
Please test and let me know if it works or does not work for you and what you have on your phone.
Thanks!
I had the same problem. I use ChompSMS and it has a setting that will split your texts so they send.

I've been having the same problem as well, might be due to the lack of a proper DL30 radio.
I'm running SC v1 at the moment but I was having the same issue on Rubiks 0.3

Yep, that confirms it. Its just a busted Froyo release. Its obvious this build wasn't finished or intended for use.
Guess I'll just work around it until the legitimate release comes OTA. Then I'll get the superclean version of that.

So busted! I've had a total of zero FC's over my 72 hours with it. I can't stand all the annoying tendencies that this busted ROM seems to cause. I'm so pissed I spent that 15 minutes flashing it to my phone. It's practically bricked now!

I haven't. Until I updated to a DL30 based software it worked perfectly.... gps still was hosed, but everything else was fine.
Now I still have a busted GPS, unable to send large texts to a 1/2 my buddies, however, phone is running faster with better look/feel.
Same problem...large text are being recieved by friends as garbage....unreadable...on all dl30 roms using dl09 radio....

hmm, i thought it breaks them up going to non vzw customers too.. there is a setting in handcent where you can turn that on or off "Split 160."

Yes, normal sized SMS messages go through fine.
Just tested this and I also have the same issue if the text is quite longer... more than 160 characters...but I'm not sure exactly where.
Wonder how many gibberish texts Ive sent out
Edit: by more than 160 characters I meant the limit for me is higher than 160 possibly double that IDK where exactly....not that it happens at 160 and above...

Yes.
Texts less than 160 work fine to anyone. Texts >160 work fine to Verizon customers. MMS texts work fine to anyone.
Just texts >160 fail to nonVerizon.
I'm sure when the OTA for Verizon comes it will fix this as it will be finalized with its own radio. Just have to wait for it to arrive and for it to be super cleaned.
EDIt: I'm saying "160" because I think that is the cutoff for normal SMS.
For now I will just run the separate app for keep texts shorter now that I know.
Every text after i send a long to that person is garbage.....even after reboot ....i have to reload rom to fix.

Just wanted to see if anyone else was having an issue where after a manual 2.3.4 update the Nexus S will regularly "go white" (lose google server connection) and then reconnect throughout the day more than normal?
It's getting annoying not having my emails pushed on time and don't know if I need to reflash the 2.3.3 radio then let the OTA do its thing.
THanks!
I have the same symptom.
However, mine started since 2.3.3
For some reason, I used to think was related to me logging in Google Chrome
web browser with the same account as my phone uses, but I don't think that
was really the cause. ( I'm not talking about just gmail website log in, I'm talking
about literally the sync of Google Chrome web browser with my gmail account that
I use on my phone.)
Even after the update to 2.3.4, its stilll the same.
Random loss of google server connection and remaining in white for brief time.
I did factory reset few times just to see if it'd fix, but no luck, yet.
I've been having this issue too ever since I got on 2.3.4. It doesn't seem to happen when I'm on wifi though. I got my update over the air too, if that matters.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
It's been happening to me for a while as well. Even back in 2.3.3 when I was on CM7 and OEM. I seriously think it's a problem on Google's side and they really need to address it because it keeps logging me off of Gtalk which is annoying.
I'm having the same problem since April 14, I've tried everything flashing stock 2.3.1-2-3-4, CM7, changing Apn setting, changing my sim card, factory resets and nothing works.
This is definitely coming from Google's side, please post in the google help forums to get the word out to google, this is a serious problem.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
myself have noticed this since 2.3.4 although I think it's google end not the rom itself.
don't like it because the more often it happens... the more your battery is used...
hope it's not our carriers...

There's a thread on this in the help forums but since I'm a n00b i can't post the link here. Search for the help thread titled "Nexus S Google connection on & off "
Thanks! Let's get this fixed.
Four months ago this thread was created. Still not a word from Google.
If you go to Google's help forum here: http://www.google.vu/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=7c7a962fd3ae87e2&hl=en
You can see that the last response from anyone at Google was from 2 months back. This issue need to be fixed, but it looks like Google could care less. Maybe if we get the word out to Android Central and other Android blogs, or even Gizmodo or Engadget Google will actually take notice and try to fix this.
mine was related to my carrier... fixed it though
might be the same for you?
I had that problem, but was fixed when google released a server update months ago, never had a disconnect since.

anything you did specifically yesterday? install an app. do an update?
also has anyone tried factory resetting their phone?
I got my Airave a few days ago and I am constantly disconnected from Google's servers unless I am on wifi. The stupid thing about that is my Airave connects directly to my modem before the router. This is telling me it must be a carrier thing.
I'm seeing something similar but it has to do with switching between 3g and wifi. The green doesn't come in for like 3 to 4 minutes. If I launch gtalk it sits there at logging in and nothing happens.

I'm willing to conclude based on the widespread nature of this issue that it's an issue on Google's end that has recently been affecting a larger number of people.
I've never had this issue before.. and recently it's started. In fact, I even have seen a few FC's (force closes) of the Google Apps process which I had never seen before. I'm on stock 2.3.4 BTW.
Got my new verizon s7 sat. I can't get Gmail to push new emails, it only works if I open the app and manually refresh. I have tried wiping cache and data for the app, ensured that the sync Gmail in settings >accounts is on.... which it seems to get hung up there occasionally, I see the circle but it isn't spinning. I have turned on all the settings in the app too

Anyone else having issues with blurry sent images (mms) using messenger? I've been using it since the G3 and have never had this problem before.. If I use the stock app I have no issues. It seemes to be soley messenger. Recieved mms are completely legible, it only effects outgoing.. The recipient cannot see the image either.

It has done that to me too, but only after I restored messages from a back-up. This image compression thing has never happened until the V20. My G3, G4 and V10 never had this issue. Thinking google messed some sh*t up in updating it. The latest version has a new icon and also seems to have a lower dpi now, or it matches what ever the user has set in nougat's new dpi changer.. Looks kinda like a mini overhaul.
