I thought I followed the directions.... Is the only way to fix is flash back to stock?
Thanks!!

did you flash the dk28 modem before flashing Viper?
I did.. but I think this is where I went wrong. I wasn't sure how to flash just the DK28 Modem without linking a tar with it. So I flashed the DK28 modem with a 2.1 tar.. How do I flash the DK28 without anything else using ODIN?

Hmm... I'm pretty sure it should have worked either way... as long as you ended up with your baseband version ending with dk28. I'm not at my computer at the moment, but there is a modem tar file that gives you just the dk28 modem, without actually updating you to Froyo.... but I would think you should have been good either way. After Odin, did the phone reboot, and did you have dk28 at the end of your baseband version? Sorry if I can't help more... lol.
I've seen your problem happen before when the dk28 modem flash didnt take. Just do it again. You don't need another tar to flash the modem, just the modem.bin.
So when using ODIN, just select the modem bin and install?
>>You don't need another tar to flash the modem, just the modem.bin.
Why not just flash the dk28 tar?
Clean install; and will allow your GPS to fix
He already has viper rom installed and just needs the modem. If he odined dk28, then he would have to convert to ext4 and install his rom again. If he just flashes the modem, then he can go on his merry way.
Well I just tried flashing the modem again.. Now all I get when I try to power up the phone is the screen comes on with a small icon of a phone with a icon of a computer with a yelllow triangle with an exclamation point inside of it.. This doesn't look good.
Darn Noobs anyways.. Any ideas on what I did, and how I can get it back?

I'm just taking this from the ACS thread here but it looks like you need to use the modem and pit file. There is a big link in the first post.
Their instructions then simply say
1. Download from the first link and use the included files to flash the modem (check only "Auto Reboot" on the left, use the PIT in the "PIT" section and modem.tar in the "PDA" section on the right.)
Hope this helps, if not - please ignore accordingly
Edit: Well I just saw you have a new problem. I think I would just flash with the DK28 Extended tarball found here. This will be a full odin flash, modem and all and you'll have a fresh DK28 that is prerooted and ready to go. Then you'd just need to do install CWM 3 and then flash your ROM of choice. I recommend Midnight, but Viper is popular too.
Thats what I just downloaded and tried to install with Odin. Now I cannot boot into recovery or anything. It just comes up with an icon of a phone and computer on the screen with a yellow triangle in between them. I pulled that battery, put it back in with no luck.

I've seen that screen before.... so it's fixable. I think the key is gonna be if you can still get into download mode, and get Odin to work. I once had to run Odin 10 times til it finally worked. Somw people say to remove your sd card when using Odin... but I don't know if that's the key. Also, are you following the directions as to the buttons on the left, and leaving auto-reboot checked?
Here's a question: what is happening when Odin stops doing what it's doing? Did it run thru the install and say 'pass' at the end? And in the dialog box, did it say (something like) succeed:1 fail:0? At that point the phone should reboot into the new system.

Its odin time now; no other choice. So go ahead and hold 1 and power to boot into download mode and flash the dk28 tar.

I had to do a bunch of things, and don't know what finally made it work for sure but my theory. . .
I was able to get it to boot into clockwork by plugging it into the charger. But even after reseting everything it would still come up with the screen I describe before.
The way I believe I got it back into download mode was to take out the battery, hook it to the USB cable and then hold down the # 1 with the power button. Could of just been a conicendince though.
Anyways... it is fixed and working with ViperRom.

I have debated if I would just wait for the official DL30 update. But I bit the bullet. I decided on the 4th. I was having issues getting the custom recovery to stick, so I ended up just combining both of them. It almost seemed like there was file consistancy checks upon the fascinate booting up. I have gathered my information and files from XDA-Developers. That is a great site for anything about smartphones.
All credit goes to nitsuj17, OMJ, Syn Ack, and punk.kaos this is just what I needed to do to get my phone rooted and flashed with punk.kaos's DL30 ROM.

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU DOING. THIS WILL VOID THE WARRANTY OF YOUR PHONE.
THIS IS JUST THE STEPS I DID TO GET MY PHONE TO FROYO.
THIS IS FOR VERIZON ONLY PLEASE DONT USE IF YOU ARE NOT ON VERZION
****************************************************************************************
Files Needed:
Samsung Drivers
Odin
CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5
update.zip
su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip
DL30_leak.zip
new_cwm.zip
1.) Install the Samsung Drivers
2.) Place Odin3 v1.3.exe and CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5 in the same folder on your pc
3.) Place the update.zip, su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip, DL30-leak.zip, and new_cwm.zip in the root of your sdcard (root means not in any folder just on the sdcard)
4.) Put your phone in download mode by taking out the battery. Then hold the volume down button while plugging it into the usb cable attached to your computer
5.) Open Odin
***************************************************************************************
THIS IS IMPORTANT > DO NOT TOUCH ANY SETTINGS IN ODIN, ONLY USE THE PDA BUTTON AND THE START BUTTON.
IF YOU TOUCH ANY OTHER BUTTONS IN ODIN YOU COULD BRICK YOUR PHONE.
***************************************************************************************
6.) So press the pda button then select CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5
7.) Press start (Note this will reboot your phone when complete)
8.) Power the phone on while holding the entire volume button down. Let go of the power button when the Samsung logo shows but keep holding the whole volume button.
9.) This will boot you into the stock recovery. Use the volume rocker to move down to apply sdcard:update.zip then press the home key
10.) After it applies you will be in clockworkmod recovery
11.) Use the volume rocker to navigate to install zip from sdcard. This time though you will use the back key to select. (I know it is annoying that there are two different select keys but get used to it)
12.) Navigate down and select choose zip from sdcard
13.) Navigate to su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip press back to select it
14.) Navigate down and select Yes – Install su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip
15.) Once that is done press the search button to go back a menu
16.) Next, go back to the main menu and choose "Wipe Data/Factory Reset", do this twice for good measure. Then choose "Wipe Cache Partition", do it twice for good measure, it doesn't hurt anything.
17.) Once in Recovery, choose "Install zip from sdcard" > "Choose zip from sdcard" > Then locate your "DL30.zip" file that you downloaded earlier. Choose it and then hit YES. Once complete, takes less than a couple minutes usually.
18.) FINALLY, choose "Install zip from sdcard" > "Choose zip from sdcard" > Then locate your "new_cwm.zip" file you downloaded earlier. Choose it and hit YES. YOU ARE DONE!!!!
Reboot the phone and enjoy your rooted, bloated, official copy of Verizon Froyo.
For the record, this update ONLY works with DJ05 and DL09 radio. Meaning you must download and flash it to your phone if you do not have it or you won't get texts and probably won't be able to make calls.
I am working on my own hybrid ROM that is taken from punk.kaos’s and adrynalyne’s customer ROMs.
It will remove all the bing from the phone but will keep Samsung’s TouchWiz. I am also thinking about integrating the Hulu app.
Stay here and I will keep you updated.

At no point during steps 7,7,8 can you let the phone boot into the os... everyone is getting screwed up with this (including me). the op should have pointed this out. something in dl09 doesn't let you boot into cw the old way. flash cw via odin, then stock recovery update zip, then boot into cw, then flash froyo, then flash new cw. Confusing I know, someone around here explained it better.

Ok, yeah, what I did was flashed CW then let the phone boot up. I'll give your way a shot
edit:
It worked! You rock! I flashed CW with Odin, then immediately unplugged it, put the battery back in, held down the volume button and power button, applied updatezip, and got the CW menu!
Really I was just wanting to apply the root to the new update. This worked!

All,
I have read these forums for months and now finally wanted to root and update to 2.2.
I haven't found the answer yet regarding what base setup I need to have on my Fascinate?
Can I do this with the following?
Firmware version:
2.1-update1
Baseband version:
S:i500.04 V.EA28
Kernel version:
2.6.29
Build number:
SCH-I500.EA28
I am sure you all might laugh however someone who hasn't payed real close attention would like to know the answer.

This worked for me finally, but I had to go completely back to stock first to make it work.
Good write up Thanks!
You should just flash DL09 back and backup and remove Active Care...keep EA28 out lol that'd what I've done...then again I don't use pattern lock so the emergency call bug isn't an issue.

Can someone upload EA28 version(Factory restore) need to update but i don't want OTA,,thanksz

If somebody doesn't beat me to it I will post two links when I get to my computer that will root your phone VERY easily. For now, Google "odin" and download and install it to your PC. It's a program you will be needing if you plan to flash custom roms and kernels and to root it. Also, plug your phone into a PC and let the drivers install on your computer.

I answered you in the Comm ROM 2.0 thread letting you know Comm ROM is rooted and your phone will be rooted if you flash the ROM, but here is a long-winded guide to just install ROOT:
If you just want to root the phone, you will need to download the Samsung USB drivers for the Fascinate to your computer. After downloading the file, double click on the downloaded file to install the drivers:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NZS8BF7E
Download superuser 2.3.6.1 + busybox 1.19 and place it on the base of the sd card:
http://adrynalyne.us/files/odin/su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip
Load ODIN onto your computer:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J4Y10P6G
Flash this CWM recovery in the PDA section of ODIN:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/06al8prkgj29gps/cwm-recovery-ALL-3-30-FIX.tar
Boot directly to CWM by holding the volume up, volume down, and power buttons until you see the samsung logo flashes twice then let go of all three buttons, use volume buttons to scroll to install zip from sd card, power button, scroll to choose zip from sd card, power button, scroll to su + busybox file, power button. When that finishes installing, menu soft key until you are back at the main CWM menu where reboot system now will be highlighted, power button and phone will reboot.

Stay with 2.5 for now. It will flash anything. Now, find the rom and kernel you want and download them then put them on the base of your SD card. Boot to recovery, wipe data/cache/dalvik cache and then flash and reboot. If you want to flash a voodoo kernel, after you flash the kernel, while in recovery find the voodoo section in the main menu and enable lagfix and switch system lagfix conversion to yes. Then reboot and profit.

flashing evil fascination now for my 1st rom ...thanks too all you guys for helping
Thanks to ACS and others for bringing out 4.0 of the ACS ROM. It was a perfect time for me to upgrade because my ACS 1.2 ROM got corrupted for the 4th time (why does that happen? Lack of journaling?) and i figured if I needed to wipe everything anyway, I'd just upgrade. THere are no instructions at all on the main ACS development thread so I read 50 pages of posts and guessed. I did the following:
1. Rebooted into clockwork 3.1 (purple) and selected the ZIP for the stock EC05 Rom with recovery built in.
2. Rebooted and verified it booted correctly (yay)
3. 3-finger reboot into recovery
4. flashed the ICS 3.5 ROM (newest version is 4.0 that just cane out a few minutes ago...)
5. Flashed EC05 to EI22 modem update
6. Flashed Nubernel kernel
Rebooted. Results: Just hangs at the kernel screen. Phone is essentially soft bricked. I'm attenpting to Odin back to EC05 again. I've now spent over 3 hours on this... can someone please update the thread with clearer instructions? Examples:
1. Does this ACS install include a kernel? (did I screw it up by flashing my own?)
2. Does it convert to EXT or was I to know to do that seperately?
3. Will future ACS updates require wiping user data? (it doesnt say)
Thanks!
Brandon
Standby ill give you a play by play that should get you up and running on 4.0
---------- Post added at 07:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:27 PM ----------
Ok, You did good up until step 6. There is no need to flash a kernel as this rom includes a kernel. Just wipe dalvik/cache/data 3x install from zip. From this point you should be good to boot. Let me know if it works
I was on sfr 1.2 too and wat I did first was to flash the ec05toei22.zip first then flash legendary ROM and at the end flash the journalon.zip jst to be safe. Legendary ROM is great, not missing sfr 1.2 at all :0

Thanks everyone. What worked for me was:
1. Odin back to ec05
2. Root with one-click root (+ clockwork recovery purple)
3. Reboot into recovery and flash the ACS 4.0 ROM
4. Reboot.
That's it. Now doing the annoying task of resetting everything back up. Questions:
1. I'm still on ec05 modem. Should I now flash the ec05 to ei22 zip? What will that give me?
2. When this ROm updates (which is happening frequently) do I have to wipe user data? Please say no!
Some things I've noticed so far... I really miss the circular battery icon from 1.2 and the 3g/1x icons too. Anyway to get those back?
Thanks everyone!
Not an expert but the modem is optional really whatever your phone works best with I'm on ei22 modem don't really see a difference and there is a mod for the ciruclar 1% mod in the themes (sorry no link) and usually acs uses full roms so yes you'll have to wipe unless the post directs otherwise however for ERA there is both an update and a full rom.

While adding data back can be annoying, I've come very use to it myself lol.
As for the modem, use what works best for you.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I decided to go ahead and upgrade to the EI22 modem and also turn journaling ON. I'm hoping that I'll stop some of these data corruption issues I have been having (resulting in force close loops on boot... 1.2 would fall into that loop about once every 3 weeks).
So far so good. This ROM is just a shade laggier than 1.2 was but I haven't spontaneously shut down once yet (something that happened a few times a week on 1.2 no matter what kernel I used)
I'll echo what others have said. Here was my process from SFR 1.2
1. Wipe 3x
2. Flash the ROM
3. Flash the EC05toEI22 modem file
Reboot
I had 3.5 bork on me twice with the google.systems.framework.gapps force close issue. I'm about to retry it with 4.0 and journaling enabled.
Keep trying new stuff. Half the fun of all this is that you get to be a part of developing the OS for you phone.
Oh, and back your stuff up when you have it working the way you want it to. I was able to jump back to my SFR 1.2 backup when ICS stopped working. Happy times.
yes backing up is the key...
I backed up before I do each significant change. I think that is key just in case it all goes wonky. I'm currently running the 4.0 build with the EI22 modem and it seems pretty stable. Well, it was until I upgraded to Dolphin 7.x from 6.x. I got 4 hangs in 30min in low memory conditions. It causes GO launcher to freak out and get stuck. Required a battery pull each time. Now with a revert back to dolphin 6.x I've been hang-free for about an hour.
My wishlist:
1. Add reboot into the shutdown menu
2. Make the battery logo pretty like srf 1.2 (I looked in themes and couldn't find it)
3. Fix handcent notifications appearing as black unreadable text
4. Various text box draw issues (example in facebook widget). Just looks sloppy.
I've got stable wifi (unlike some). Will try GPS tomorrow.
I would like to add to your wishlist remove the low battery alert for the camera... u can't take pics if your battery is low

Yeah I am similar to some of the others...
I was on frozen with ec05 so:
1. wiped everything x3
2. flashed modem
3. flashed acs 4
4. installed everything i needed.
5... just AWESOME! >< works great and fast.
Need to figure out if it works in the docks... now to go to bed and hope my alarm works in the morning into my speakers through my dock ><
I am new to posting in the forum but have recently forged ahead into custom ROMs. I went from stock ICS to Pershoot's CM10 10/30 build and now on the latest 11/9 ROM. So far it works pretty good. I documented the process if anyone is interested.
It looks like there are two active JB ROMs (Pershoot's & AOKP) on the Dev thread. Just wanting to get some interaction around this SGT10.1 model.
Thanks to Pershoot. Sorry, can't post in the dev thread yet.

The only thing about Cm10 builds across the board is battery life due to the way wakelocks seem to be handled. I'm sure that eventually things will work out. For now the degree of battery drain sometimes gets exasperated on our device because of the LTE modem so I have found it best to keep certain things frozen when the tablet is not in use like logging out of Talk, freezing Maps and turning off location services along with enabling airplane mode. I am not a user of other things that require a lot of data during sleep like Facebook, twitter or other instant messaging services so generally I get adequate battery life doing these things though not as good as with HC.
One thing is certain, I have never enjoyed using the tablet as much as I do now with Pershoot's build. The responsiveness and stability is fantastic. This is the way the tablet should have shipped from the start.
Sent from my SCH-I905 using Tapatalk 2
Agreed. Battery depletion seems to be greater on the custom ROMs vs. stock. Turning off location services shuts down the constant Wi-fi activity when the screen is off and tablet idle for a long time. I purchased Better Battery Stats to help figure out where I can conserve battery.

I am interested in seeing your documentation. Do these builds work on OCD 4.0.4?

Yes. You must be on ICS before installing these ROMs. I am on business travel right now but I should be able to post my notes by end of the week.

My instructions for installing ClockWorkMod and flashing CM10 on my Verizon SCH-i905. Use at your own risk.
Notes:
• Must be on stock ICS (v4.0.4) before initial flash to CM10 ROM because of the LTE modem• Download ODIN 1.85 for Windowshttp://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&sqi=2&ved=0CDAQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fattachment.php%3Fattachmentid%3D581913%26d%3D1304094576&ei=rY6mUIgfxYPIAbe6gaAB&usg=AFQjCNF7sF0f2yJp0IxHp1ISlP2fzGKhtw&sig2=zgnSfC3HnTTgV_TCWS3NgQ• Download and install Windows USB drivers for SGT10.1http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SCH-I905UKAVZW• Download latest Google Apps package for CM10 (zip file)http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/wiki/Latest_Version#Google_Apps• Download latest CM10 p4vzw ROM zip file and CWM Recovery (recovery.tar.md5)http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/roms/cm10/p4vzw/
ClockWorkMod Recovery Installation:
• Boot tablet and ensure there is enough battery• Turn off USB debugging in the SGT10.1• Connect the USB cable from PC to tablet and copy/paste the latest p4vzw CM10 ROM zip file and CM10 Google apps zip file to the root file system of the SGT10.1• Power down tablet and disconnect USB cable. Power it up by holding down the Power button and Volume Up button (Closest to Power button) simultaneously.• When Samsung Galaxy logo appears release the power button only• Once you see the two recovery/download icons you can release the Volume Up button• The Android icon should be flashing. Press the Volume Down button (Furthest from Power button) to select download mode and Volume Up to acknowledge warning message. It should indicate awaiting for downloading.• Start ODIN (run as Administrator) and connect cable from PC to SGT10.1. You should see yellow highlighted in the COM port and a COM port number.• Browse in the PDA slot to the latest CWM recovery “recovery.tar.md5”. Make sure the only checked options are “Auto Reboot" and “F.Reset Time”• See the next step before proceeding. Click the start button in ODIN. It should quickly complete and show a green “Pass” message and the table will automatically reboot.• When the SGT10.1 reboots and before or during the Samsung Galaxy Tab logo press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons simultaneously to return to the recovery/download icons. If the SGT10.1 boots up normally you will not be able to boot into CWM recovery.
CM10 ROM and Google Apps Installation:
• With the two recovery/download icons displayed, press the Volume Up button to highlight recovery mode• Press the Volume Down button to select it• The tablet will boot into CWM Recovery (v6.0.1.5)• Make a NANDROID backup (Optional)• Select wipe data/factory reset (factory defaults, doesn’t erase SDCARD/user data). Press power button to enter. Confirm by selecting yes.• Select wipe cache partition. Press power button to enter. Confirm by selecting yes.• Go into Advanced and select wipe Dalvik cache. Press power button to enter. Confirm by selecting yes. Go back to main menu.• Select “Install zip from SD card”. Press power button to enter.• Select “Choose zip from SD card”. Press power button to enter.• Navigate to the CM10 p4vzw ROM zip file and select it. Confirm by selecting yes. This should take about a minute.• Go back to main menu and repeat to "install zip from SD card" and "choose zip file from SD card".• Navigate to the Google Apps zip file and install it. Go back to main menu.• Select “reboot system now”. The startup logo will go for a while and app optimization will proceed..• Finished. You should be Jelly Bean operational.
Observations:
I did have a situation where the tablet would always go into stock recovery instead of CWM after installing CWM. If you run into that same situation let me know and I can provide some direction.
CM10 nightlies can then be installed in the Android System settings "About Tablet" -> "CyanogenMod Updates" section

Might be a stupid question but, I am already running [ROM] [JB] [P4--P4WIFI--P4VZW] 4.1.2 AOKP for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Do I still need to be on stock ICS before I flash this? I understand that I do need to update CWM via odin. Thanks!

I wouldn't think so. You probably flashed from ICS when you went to AOKP. After updating CWM I suggest factory wiping and clearing both caches before installing CM10. CM10.1 for the p4vzw is out but I would stay with CM10 for this transition.

That's what I thought. Yep I was on stock ICS before flahing AOKP. On AOKP my tablet will not deep sleep. Looks to be a modem lock. I hope CM 10 has better battery life Thanks for the reply!

I have run into this and have not figured it out? What did you do?
I'm also looking for the official ICS OTA that I can flash.
Thanks

To fix the CWM boot issue. I did have to install root first by downloading and flashing su from here. http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip
Install "Root Browser Lite" from Google Play
Run "Root Browser Lite" and navigate to the "system/etc" folder
Select the file "install-recovery.sh" and view it. Select "RB Text Editor" to open it..
After the line "#!/system/bin/sh" add a new line and enter "exit 0". Save the file and exit.
Power off tablet, power up into recovery/download mode.
After doing these steps I noticed it still booted into stock recovery. I ODIN'd CWM once more and then it worked fine after that.
Your should have received a firmware upgrade notice when you search for updates.

I'll give it a try, thanks.
That did the trick. I was able to root ICS without error for the first time. Before I always had to install HC then root it and then update to ICS via OTA which took days before the ICS OTA would pop up sometimes. Backed up a clean copy of ICS now so I'll not deal with that again.
Thanks.
