Flashing the Radio - Droid Incredible General

So I've been reading about flashing the radio for custom rom's in order to get better battery life. So I started thinking about flashing the radio using the stock 2.2 just to see what happens. If nothing else, I could flash back to stock 07.28. So on Friday I decided to flash the radio to 11.19. on 2.2 Froyo. Today I noticed that over 8 hours of "regular" use (email, Facebook, Twitter, phone calls, taking about 20 pictures), I'm at 79% battery. Before I would be around 40-50% battery.
Just wanted to share.

I noticed a small change in battery life flashing 11.19. The biggest difference to me was GPS lock time. On 11.19 it's damn near instant.

Official Froyo battery life thread

Wanted to start this so we can get a better idea of what kind of battery life we will be seeing with 2.2! Please post your opinions so far and if you are rooted/stock and using stock kernel or the .34 kernel cyan posted. Hopefully we won't see much of a decrease do to JIT or any other new features
Probably won't be that great the first couple of days...testing out Flash and everything...(watching Hulu right now).

i was on CM5.0.7t2, and as we all know, CM is known for draining more battery than the stock rom/enoms but so far im seeing same usage as CM which is ok but not great. next few days will be testing for all of us. hopefully we will have similiar usages not like before where some people are getting 40 hours and some 10 lol
I dont if theres an improvement but I updated on a full battery. After I had 97% then killed the battery in like 5hours while at the Engadget Show lol
is anyone running setcpu with FroYo? im already gettin horribad battery life...probably due to Hulu
I may have done something wrong, but I'm on a rooted phone with kernel 2.6.32.9-27220-g328f560 and my phone went from 80% to 10% in about 4 hours just sitting in my pocket. The most I did was check some emails and some basic SMS.
Will monitor closer tomorrow by my battery usage shows something like 19% email. I wonder if my outlook push is doing something constantly that is hurting it.
Edit: it's also charging REALLY slowly. I have it connected to a USB port and its taken ~ 30 minutes to go from 14-16%.
So far, mine is looking pretty good. Early days yet though.
Its better with froyo.
Had to charge every evening with CM 5.0.6 and pershoots kernel, now i get almost a half day more (with more "playing around").
I use setcpu (245/499 at sleep).
My battery is showing 99% after 3 hours switched on and with light usage. If true, that is amazing! More likely something is not quite right. I am using the .34 UV kernel from persionsown he posted on twitter....

If I believed that it were a true reflection of battery use and not a mis-report of some sort, I would be shouting about it a lot louder!!
i streamed about 1.5 hours of video via qik (uploading not DLing). Still have 60% battery left. I say that's an improvement. Rooted modaco froyo
I'm seeing what I think is significantly worse battery life since I installed Froyo. It's hard to say, though, because I've been playing around in ways that are different from my normal usage pattern (checking the market frequently for updated apps, for example). I was on stock 2.1update1 and now am on stock Froyo.
Battery life is definitely better than Cyano/Modaco/Enomther but it is also worse than stock ERE27. Can definitely make it through a day still though on moderate/slightly heavy use with Froyo something I can't do with Cyan/Modaco/Enom...and this is way faster and more fun than any rom i've had previously so no complaints from me.
Well I was running cyan 5.0.7 and it lasted me longer than this I have now, which is Paul's Froyo.. but since my wi-fi finally stays on I wont revert.
Question: can I still install older custom kernels on froyo???. Want to try...
My battery died sometime last night, and I had gone to bed with it 70% charged. Prior to Froyo, I was on CM 5.0.6 and usually using intersectraven's 925mv kernels, and I would lose about 1.2% per hour while idling.
I'm not blaming Froyo yet, since it could have been an app screwing around. However, the battery usage page didn't show anything out of the ordinary. It will take some more testing before I ditch Froyo until an update is released.
BTW, battery usage while actually using the phone seems to be about the same.
my battery life was phenomenal today. i can't give percentage, because i haven't put on a battery widget (or many widgets at all, tbh), but stock froyo treated me well. was above 80% (guessing by icon) when i left work after 8 hours, some hulu, some wifi, some texting, some phone calls. not exactly heavy usage, but not just idle either.

Great and extremely simple app. I've been using it for months. (And it doesn't drain battery either.)

Yet another battery issues thread

Yeah I know there are a lot of other battery threads out there, but just wondering if I can get some help from all you gurus.
Currently running MYN Warm 2.2 RLS3 with HTC kernel 2.6.32.15.
Have read a lot about this and done a lot of the usual optimizations (calibrate battery, turn off auto sync, 4G, etc...last test I did I was able to get about 25 hours on a charge with very little usage, which is pretty decent. So the phone seems to be sleeping the way it's supposed to.
The issue I have is that when I actually start using the phone the battery drains like crazy (about 1% every two minutes). This is with regular usage (i.e. internet browsing). If I use certain battery hog features such as Navigation or Bluetooh then it drains everything in a matter of an hour or so. Have tried playing around with SetCPU and don't really see any improvements (BTW I only get three options on SetCPU).
So the question is whether the battery drainage is a function of the Kernel I'm using? Why would it be good when it's sleeping, but as soon as I use something consumption goes through the roof. Is there anything out there that would allow you to see actual battery usage by app or service? I know Spare Parts gives you SOME info, but it's not granular enough (i.e. It says Android System includes many different pieces).
I doubt there's any magical kernel that can do more than what you are getting now.
Best you can do is to make sure the phone sleeps when the screen is off, which seems like you have already.
Max display on usage I usually get out of a charge is between 2-3 hours at about 30% brightness settings, out of about 12-15 hour per charge.
I sync google, always data on.
yo i have myn's rom as well but different kernel.. try the ones that myn added in the myn update app that came with the rom
Hmmm...so I guess 2-3 hours of actual usage is the best I can hope for then? I hear people saying how they get a lot of hours and that includes having Bluetooth on, browsing the web, Pandora, gaming, etc...If I did that with mine I don't think I would get more than 45 minutes.

You probably can extend it by using wifi but what's the fun in that?

Hmmm...Where? Are you referring to the Warm Updater app? I don't see anything about other kernels there. I haven't flashed any kernels on my phone. This is the one it came with.
What battery life do you get when you're actually using the phone?
Achllles: I get quite a bit of degradation on WI-FI as well.
I'm just trying to understand if there's a way to see what exactly is eating my battery when I use the phone. I mean I could be just sitting on the screen not doing anything and if it's on it consumes quite a bit, but as soon as I turn off the screen everything goes to sleep and consumption drops to about 1% per hour. just trying to understand this huge disparity.
Not sure. Best you can do at this point is to install current widget and see how much is being consumed, and guess what's killing your battery.
One other thing I've noticed was even at same settings, my phone often consumed around 25-30mA while screen is off, but now it hovers around 50-100mA, and I haven't made any change to the phone.
Not sure if it's effect on real life usage, but it does seem like it does.
Maybe its not software related...maybe your battery is just shot already.
I know exactly what your going through OP. This caused me to leave Myns and Cyanogen and go to Fresh ROM.
This seems to have mainly fixed the problem.
Myn was using the stock kernal, but his new rsl4 is gonna be using ziggys elite kernal.. Now is this kernal gonna be faster than other ones? No but myn told me its not about speed. Its speed that makes your battery life go down. These flashy kernals that have high quadrant speeds, suffer battery draining issues. So wait till friday for the new rom, and see how that goes.

there are 2 kernels there.. just try to look harder, i get 12-15hrs heavy use which is more than enough for me
Was never able to find these other Kernels, but I did install Netarchy Toast. Installed versions 4.19 to try Collin's Battery Tweak, but could never get that tweak to work properly (it always has a process that uses a lot of CPU). Uninstalled that and tried version 4.2 ant that seems to be working OK (without the battery tweak).
So after a lot of testing and re-testing I've come to the conclusion that my crazy battery drain only happens whenever there's a "radio" on. CPU usage is not the main culprit in my case as even overclocking it doesn't drain it much if the radios are turned off. It doesn't matter if it's WIFI, 3G or 4G, if the phone is using any of this it drains very quickly. Thus the reason it acts good whenever is sleeping.
A perfect example of this is that I used Power Amp to play music from my music library (from my SD Card). Used it for like 4 hours and it drained the battery at a very reasonable pace, then I stopped that and started playing music using Pandora. Immediately the battery started to drain at about 1% rate every two minutes or so. I've read somewhere that using WIFI instead of 3G would save battery. Didn't seem to make a difference in my case as it drained at about the same rapid pace. Now if I have both on, then it gets even crazier.
So having found the culprits the question is whether there's anything that can be done to improve this. BTW I think I have the latest PRI (1.77_003), PRL (60671) and baseband (2.15.00.09.01) versions

Advice on going from 2.2.2 back to 2.2.1

Hi,
ever since last week when I updated to 2.2.2, my battery life has been crap. In the half hour it takes me to get ready and drive into work, the battery goes down to 60%. with 2.2.1 it was like 98% so something is messed up.
Nothing else has changed, no new apps.
I did the froyo update manually so I sort of know the mechanics of the process but I'm just wondering if I need to go back to stock and then to froyo and then the updates or if I can just download the 2.2.1 image and update with it.
thanks,
I have the same problem :/
Obvious answer but have you tried a factory reset? I would take a stab at it before using more aggressive solutions.
Failing that you can flash a stock rom using the passimg.zip method and OTA back up but at some point you will be back on 2.2.1 and getting nagged to update to 2.2.2 again.*
*It could be that i'm using the European varient of the firmware but i've not had the best of luck flashing back to older versions (It's a long story). Suffice it to say, every method failed at some stage so i flashed a 2.2.2 stock/custom ROM instead.
I'm getting consistent 20hrs+ to 30% running CM7 nightly. Can understand wanting to keep it simply stock and CM7 is pre alpha but my battery performance is about double.

Did I understand you correctly? You could only get 10 hours of your battery on stock rom?! And is there really a positive difference in CM7 battery performance? I know that some people (including me) had problems with that on CM6 so in my eyes CM is not the most battery efficient rom. Just curious..
About OP's battery problem. My N1 no different than before 2.2.2 update. Battery life seems the same. +1 for factory reset.
Cheers!
it could be time to root and go cutom
I had the same problem
And found out that it was google syncing (which i could not fix whatever i did). I wiped everything and started again.
This fixed it, however here are some tips to get good life on the nexus.
(This worked for me and saw my nexus 1 last 1.5 - 2 days before getting to 30%)
1: goto dial pad and do the *#*#info#*#* under phone set it from WCDMA to GSM perfered
2: Always use wifi where you can, wifi uses less battery than 3G, (this was a major saving in battery power for me) Set your wifi to always on (even when the screen is off). The 2 main places you spend most of your time is at home and work, set it up for those places and you will see your battery lasting a crap load
(my battery went from a drain of 7% a hour down to 2-3% by doing this).

Looking for a great Sense 3.0 GB rom with good battery life

hello everyone. I have been using Cyanogenmod 7.1 for a little while now. I am getting tired of it for right now. I am wanting to try something with sense 3.0 and GB rom. Which one's are great and fully working on the Evo? Also do any of them have better battery life?
P.S. I am currently trying out Synergy rom. My friend has the LG phones on Verizon and man they get awesome battery life. 12 hours off the charger and his phone is only down to 73%. He has been making a lot of calls but man my Evo was off the charger for 16 hours and was down to 15% and I barely even used the phone. I hope the Evo 3D has much better battery life, otherwise I may buy an 3500MAH battery for my evo.

All the Hybrid 3.0 ROMS are good. All of them.
Battery life is not going to be like your friends until we can have custom kernels, which we can't have yet. Not until HTC releases the source code.
Battery life varies from phone to phone anyhow

ok thank you. Looks like I'll be flashing and testing out roms today, thanks again I will report anything else here.
Alliance Rom is pretty
Evo 4g
MikG-c2.15 is working very well - no issues at all. Battery easily lasts a day with fairly heavy use. This is probably the best ROM I have ever had on the Evo. (and I have tried MANY.)
RECOMMENDED.
I love Synergy and MikG but I can't use them as an everyday rom because of the battery life. With Synergy I watched my battery drop to 70% in like three hours after I had my phone off the charger for a few hours yesterday morning. And I had barely touched the phone! That is completely unacceptable to me, sorry. I need my SBC and HAVS. I wanted to go back to MikFroyo but I have an issue with the display usage (stays at like 90% even with the screen off and not touching the phone) that drains the battery in like 10 hours.
Tried to go back to my Salvage-Mod nandroid but it somehow got corrupt. I almost went back to Myn's twopointtwo but I didn't want something so outdated (still a great rom though). So here I am now using CM7...not the biggest fan in the world but it works and it's giving me great battery life with Tiamat kernel 4.0.5. A little over 20 hours with medium usage.
I don't understand what happened with MikFroyo. I never had the display usage issue before. Then it just came out of no where and stayed like that. I tried going back to 4.5 (which I know for a fact it didn't do that on) and it still did it. Tried switching kernels, nothing. I used to get 25-30 hours with a charge on 4.62, and Salvage-Mod gave me the same battery life. So I'm just hoping that new kernels with SBC and HAVS will let me be able to keep Synergy or MikG as a daily.

Keep me updated. I have been using Syngergy today and battery life is ok. I would go back to CM7 but having all of the random reboots when 4G is turned on kinda got old.
I need my SBC and HAVS,. also, but you DO know you cannot judge battery life right after flashing the ROM, right? You DO know you have to let it settle in for a day or 2, right?
this is with 28% remaining after heavy use
this is with 12% remaining after heavy use (ignore the 28% in the header...)

Battery life decreasing...

Ok, so I've had my SGN for little under a month for the first few weeks I had it I was getting great battery life, almost 6 hours screen time full day of battery etc.. Then I rooted it using one click root because I wanted some more access, since then battery life has seemingly been slowly getting worse. I have tried changing back to stock roms and custom roms, I've fully discharged the battery and charged while it is off a number of times but I'm down to 3 hours screen time and can't get a full day out off it anymore.
Is this something to do with the way I rooted, what can I do test and try and get back my battery life, this is the main reason I got this phone..
It's hard to say if it was the first update I installed/rooting or something wrong with the way I'm charging but it's certainly decreased even on a stock ROM without installing anything..
Anybody else encountered this?

I have the same "feeling" with my Note. I have installed System Panel to monitor usage but I can't find anything specific that seems to be sucking the power. But it certainly "feels" like my battery is draining faster than before.
It's probably as the phone gets older, you install more & more Apps. Some of these are probably working in the background sucking your battery.

Try Rocket Rom v17 or latest XXLA1 firmware and your battery life will come back even better than before, just me
Same "feeling" here! I will try LA1 firmware....
So I'm currently sitting on 4.30 hours screen time, 15 hours uptime with 20% battery remaining.
Running la1 firmware and la3 modem, been using stock browser. Taking lots of photos with flash too, so I think this combo has rectified my issues but I know there's more potential as this is roughly the same stats I got on my dhd, although that was underclocked and tweaked to the clappers.
Faith is resetored in my device, hopefully it improves.
