Best way to format my phone? - Vibrant General

I am selling my phone and I have used the utility the leaves the phone as when it was bought. However, when I plug it in my laptop I can see many folder from stuff that I had + plus files and pictures
So what´s the best way to format my phone? In order to DELETE EVERYTHING.

Are you seeing your external sd when you mount the phone? If so, you need to format your micro sd under sd card and phone storage in the settings menu.
When you format your phone to factory settings, it should erase everything on the internal sd.

mount the internal sd card and select all the folders and delete....

do it through ONIX. then double check ur storages, format through ur phone if have to

Odin and repartition checked I believe.

-ODIN to get the system back to stock
-menu>SD card and phone storage> format both SD cards.
If you are uber paranoid you could shred each SD slot to ensure no file is recoverable. Files are recoverable from a simple re-format.
Try formatting then using recuva to see what can be recovered, CCcleaner can properly wipe drive (under the tools menu), both can be found here and are free. check download.com for reviews of each or to dl them from download.com.

ok, will get to it when i back home, now at office which uses vista.
Just reboot the phone, it always work for me.
Unmount the sd card from settings, turn off your phone, take out the battery and sd card then put them all back, turn on. It works for me
Alternatively you can try a media card reader and copy all the data off it. It may or may not work depending how damaged it is. If it is damaged that is.
You should make sure the card is unmounted before you turn off USB connectivity. That can cause this.
It will try to repair it however, somtimes it is unsuccessful.
Just take mine as the last option you can think.
Get some partition stuff, Acronis DiskDirector works well, I used a lot with damaged server harddisk.
Just DELETE it. (not wipe!)
and Recover it. If it was about master record fails which it's likely, it should be recovered in a few sec.
If it still not work, then grab some undelete, file recovery to recover your remaining stuff. I don't suggest it anyway though someone claim that it worked well, since those raw-based recovery only work with some general file. (doc, excel, blah blah)

[Q] Help, my 16GB now shows as 8GB after 1GB partition in ClockWorkMod

I received a new 16GB micro SD card and put it into my phone.
I partitioned it in ClockWorkMod and started moving files (Music, photos etc) from the computer to my new card. While copying the blue screen of death came up on my laptop. This never happened before but upon reboot I tried to carry on copying files and it came up saying I have to format my card. I tried to format but it refuses to so I tried a full format, that didnt work either.
My 16GB micro SD card is now reading as 8GB. Can anyone help???
Have you tried removing the partition in gparted and then formatting?

I have, it comes up as saying the memory card failed to format.
You can't just format...you're going to have to repartition the card. You can use gparted like nokn suggested or any of the various windows partition tools out there. After you have set up the partition(s) you can format the card.
Just wondering what settings you used with the SD Formatter?
Did you enable RESIZE? Did you do a FULL Format with Erase on?
These two settings are pretty important. Another thing to look at would be [email protected], you can "KILL" a whole drive, which essentially writes a ZERO from beginning to end of the drive.

I opened up a program called Partition Wizard and I managed to unallocate the partition and then resize the card to fat but only up to 8GB. It still refuses to be formatted or for anything to be written on it.

In SD Formatter v3.0.0.0 I opened options I selected Format Type as Full Erase and Format Size Adjustment as On and it came back as failed. Now my card is showing up as 8MB . It is also saying the memory card is write protected.

[Q] Remove CWR from an SDCard?

Is there a quick and dirty way to remove CWR installed on an SDCard?
I tried a straight format on Windows, but then I copied the files I originally had on the card back to the card.

Just erase the boot files from the partition, namely, MLO, uImage and uRamDisk. That will make it a normal SD. But if you had a bigger SD with a smaller CWM image on it, it will stay the smaller size. I'm not sure that a format will bring it back to it's native size or not.
A quick format on Windows doesn't work. Can't recall if the full format does or not. A program like easeus partition manger will do a full format if you are using a smaller image on a larger card to recover the space.
Alternatively if you have the stock B&N OS on internal you can insert the card go into settings and unmount the card and then format it. It will restore all the space and give it factory fresh formatting. Often, other devices such as digital cameras also have a format function like this which usually does a deep format and restores the card to new.

[Q] Cannot use internal sd to store applications after partitioning

Hello
I accidentaly partitioned my internal SD from the recovery console. I can see it fine, when my phone boots under cm9. The problem is that I cannot use it to store applications.
When I go to settings->storage, I can see the following storages :
1) Internal Storage total space 114MB
2) USB Storage total space 7.38GB
I tried to install google maps and I got a not enough available memory message.
Post in Q&A section please
Btw you can re-partition it again and try
Sorry. I said it was a question somewhere, though!!
I repartitioned it again a while ago, and I still get internal storage 114MB, which means I have very little space to install apps that cannot be moved to the SD.
Am I missing something else here?

Depending on what type of partition you may have made earlier ...rfs or ext 4.. your phone may be only reading one of this partitions...best to unmount and format to your current phones format
I repartitioned and formated it under recovery mode.
Nonetheless, when I go to settings->storage, I can only see the 7.38GB of the internal SD under the USB STORAGE section.
I only have 152KB of recognizable internal storage available now, which means I can`t install anything.
I use the recovery mode to partition the internal SD. I want my internal SD, to be recognized as internal, as it used to be before I used the partition utility.
Gasp!!

undo your lagfix FIRST ..than use menu > settings> storage> unmount and format to recover full SD card space
I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733343
where someone gives a script that removes the lagfix, or so he claims. Can I copy it over to my phone and then use the terminal to execute it?

pretty old thread, not sure as to what kernel that script is for .
Why not try to undo partition in recovery as that option should be there...the same way you were able to partition .
Sorry pal for being so persistive but I cannot find any undo partition in the recovery.
Do I really need to lagfix before I try what you suggested before? What does the lagfix do anyway?
One important thing I just noticed. I cannot unmount it, under settings->storage because it ain`t recognized under the SD CARD section but under USB STORAGE.
Ain`t that odd?

one and the same thing lagfix changes rfs (original samsung format) to ext 2 or ext 4 formats
the partitioning you have done... I assume is to ext 4 or is it ext 2?

well, this would be case, because, you have two different partitions and your system cannot read one because its is using the other.
In storage you can unmount and format using your PC, as that would be the only option for you now (so best you use this option, but first copy the entire contents of SD card to your PC) after format you can copy what you need back to your SD card
or you can use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709398
but be careful which drive you format

After using the scan dish program several times I noticed the SD card was not recognized by teamwin recovery every time.
It could have been a fluke but I think.
The MS DOS commands in the OP are more reliable.
I'm using lenovo A7000 and recently updated marshmallow and chosen 32GB SD card as internal memory. It was worked as internal memory perfectly quite some time, all of sudden I got message that SD corrupted and doesn't show data stored in the card, it shows zero files, I lost all media files!! However USB storage option in settings SD card shows 6.5GB used out of 28GB. Since it's treated as internal memory I'm not able to read the card in other devices. I have important media files and documents in SD card and I didn't backup them. I'm bit worried!!! How to recover the data from SD card. I assume if SD card changed back to portable, it will format and lose data!!! Please support

I've heard of this problem before. Good luck
After step 9, is it possible to change it to another format type or does it need to stay on fat32?
Also, does the sdcard need to be connected directly to the pc? When I tried list disk while the sdcard was still in the phone (sdcard>phone>usb>pc), it wouldn't come up.
Had the same thing happen to both mine and my wife's SD cards in the Note 4....I think its the phone screwing things up. When it happen to me the phone rebooted and then the card was corrupt. The are like ticking time bombs..
I use the drive format tool from hiren''s boot usb. 1 click and Works like a charm.

We can just format these corrupted micro sdcards by using the Format SD card in the phone's storage settings? What do you mean by 'dont Use the note 4' though?
I wiped it on my computer, then put it back in once android was started and immediately wiped it, it's worked every time so far.

The note 4 will bootloop with the sdcard you used to root due to the fact it has your bootloader original CID stored on it as a fail safe (something messes up during the procedure ) but any device not using said CID is fine ....I used a Huawei ascend to format .worked fine and formatted card without need of pc.
