[Q] Why do Apple lovers hate the XOOM so much?

I am an Apple user (no kidding) and am puzzled at the lack of love for the Xoom, particularly at MacRumors (been a member since 2006). Where is the love?
Comments such as:

makes me wonder whether Apple users are mostly pricks?

I think it comes down to religious fanaticism. They feel that there is only one "right" choice and everyone else must follow them and they don't care how they achieve that goal. I've seen it here too.

It's funny because on here I think i haven't seen too many 'bad' words about apple / ipad - mostly that the UI is very clever, but not to their taste...
lack of customization etc.
I see apple stuff more as a fashion statement personally - and I'd feel restricted if I had one - but that said, I think it's good for people who want something simple...

Well put...

To be honest if I wasn't such an android fanboy I'd be all on it. Apple makes great products and its a fact. However for a super user, anything but Droid is just.... boring.

Great products? Have you heard about the defect with their LCD screens? Light bleeds in several points of the edges of the screen. A lot of iPad users are complaining about it, but of course, hardcore Apple fans call it a feature. LOL

What the crap are you talking about? The Xoom isn't that much more the the 32gb 3g version of the ipad 2 and given how much more advanced it is via hardware...I can understand the price increase. Do I like paying more...no...but my Xoom works for my needs 10x better then the ipad. That is just my personal opinion. The wifi only Xoom is the same price as the 32gb wifi ipad 2. You need to compare price points for similar products...not just make random incorrect statements.
By the way, Xoom isn't that buggy at all...atleast not for my wife and I. People seem to forget that the ipad had to wait 8 months for fake multitasking as well as other features. Everything takes time.

Thoughts on the galaxy note.

I thought I was pretty set on getting the galaxy nexus when its released, now I'm also thinking about the galaxy note. Just wondering what others in the community are thinking.

That's my question too. I would really love the stylus for work. I think I would use it all the time, but I am stuck with Sprint for at least the next two years.

I think galaxy note is targeted for specific people.
Personally, I will not buy it, because:
1. it's not nexus (fear of being left behind in terms of updates+features)
2. Too big for my pocket
But I see that it has usefulness that I heard web browsing is so much better due to bigger screen. The bigger screen allows reading, watching and typing better.
About stylus, I think its a gimmick. Unless you have something like iPad size (which still limited that you have to write like you are using a crayon), writing in touch screen is cumbersome.

It's freaking huge. Have you ever held an iphone? Yeah, I'm comparing apples to oranges, but the phone is huge.

The Dell Streak, compared to this, is longer and thicker, but the Note is wider. There are some videos up on YouTube with people putting the Note in their pocket and making calls and it's really not that big. Heck most cordless landline phones are bulkier than the Note.
Also if it gets ICS with the new version of TW that is less inttusive , that would be awesome.

I put a comparison pic of the note and the gnexus and an article up in the rumor thread. Ill find it.

AT&T has had the note for over a month. Used it for 2 weeks...it was OK. Barely fits in the back pocket and made my Epic feel like a toy. AT&T Hspa 4G is the biggest crap going but once LTE is spread out more it may be useable. The CDMA version will be called The Journal and rumored to go to Verizon and maybe Sprint.

My co-workers come over to my desk with 7in and 10in tablets up to their ear like they're talking on the phone. Then they're like "oh, hey man, whats up?" Every time it's a different tablet. (they're huge nerds. well-paid nerds)
When I bring out the phone to put it on a table or to check the time, my friends introduce it to other people as a tablet. It annoys me, so they keep doing it, and insist it's a tablet after I repeatedly tell them it's a phone.
Most people ask if it's a tablet first, because it's just big enough to be a tablet, but also small enough to be a big phone. I just say "nah, it's a phone". Cuz IT IS A PHONE. But also maybe a tablet. screw you. they just jealous.

I just smile because I really love this phone. It fits very well in the side or inside front pocket of most of my jackets

Coming from a girl who at least likes Android, and from a guy who likes the iPhone.

Everyone who sees my Galaxy note always asks "Why do you own such a big phone?"
my answer was always "I'm not really used to holding anything less than 5.3 inches"

Just flown back from Edinburgh with BA used phone with app for boarding pass when checking in I got a bloody hell what's that then boarding the staff got all excited that's a big one then asked if it was a Samsung iPhone. I politely said that if my phone had feelings it would now be very upset but lucky for you it's just a phone..

Definitely, yes.
Out of all "new" devices I have bought, this so far has given me the biggest "wow". I have never experienced such a leap in performance and awesomeness from one device to another device like with this one. And it's not like I jumped 2010 to 2013; most recently I went Galaxy Note to Xperia T to Xperia Z.
It's not perfect, it's got it's faults. But it's whining on a very high level.
Edit: crappy thread title btw, should be named "Xperia Z appreciation thread"

People will always whine about the latest phone. Next will be the HTC flagship then the Samsung galaxy flagship then the 2H Sony flagship and so on.
There will never be a perfect phone, like computers, always issues and society wanting more.

Wait for S4 - then people will trash HTC One. And after few months, they'll trash S4 and praise another device... Seriously, if we have people calling S4 Pro chips "outdated" now - it's clearly quite absurd...

Your right, but Funny thing is most people were expressing their disappointment before phone even released so they didn't even spend lots of dollars at the time or could have cancelled their order.

Perfect argument.
But if we talk about people who actually own S3 devices and are very happy about it - this argument becomes invalid instantly... i mean people who criticize plastic screen protector, but are fine with whole flimsy plastic body - that's just ridiculous.

Seconded. Crap thread.

With new technology introduce almost every 3months.There can never be a "perfect phone". Even telcos are finding it difficult to catch up( new phone launch almost every month). If the performance of a phone is not upto our expectations, why dun we just buy a better phone if we can afford it instead of whinning over it. Else , lets just be appreciative. My humble personal opinion, XZ is a great phone with flaws( design by human and humans are'nt perfect).I cannot afford to purchase a "greater" phone cause my line will not be able to recontract for another 2 years.Thus am contented with XZ. 2cents.

I have to say, Apple usually has great designs, but its new Watch is downright ugly. I also prefer the design of the 5S to the iPhone6. Not that I care so much, Imma buy the Note 4.

My brother uses iPhone and when I ask him about features he said "it just works".. lol
He also said Android crashes alot. Not sure where he heard that my stock rooted n4 had never " crashed".
I think though the iPhone would be ok if the price was inline with premium android phones. I really like the build quality but the price is insane. The day I go out and spend over $1100 for a phone is the day it will have lady parts.

We all laugh because iPhone 6/6+ finally add things we had in 2012, but in reality I'd say Apple finally caught back up to Android. All the main features of Android are now present in the iPhone 6/6+. I'm shocked that Apple finally gave up Steve Jobs' silly notion that large screens are bad. 4.7" and 5.5" are solid screen size options that cover most people'swishes.
You still have to deal with Apple's closed ecosystem. In terms of phone lockdown, though, since carriers in the US are locking down Android handsets more and more that point becomes less of an issue here in the US.
I'm still primarily considering Note 4 and Nexus X/6/5(2014)/whatever to replace my Note II, but this is finally a new serious contender from Apple.
