Can someone make a new version of odin for mac? - Epic 4G General

Simply put on the topic. I've been trying to get himdall to work but I can not get it to work. Its to complicated and I'm tired of trying to get this thing to work. I wish there can be some one to port it to a mac version that would just be as simple as it is on windows. Thanks in advance if this can be done

Edit: i just realized i put this on the wrong section. Can u plz move to question section

Not sure, but maybe you could get vmware to run windows on your mac? Idk how that'd go with usb support though

heimdall works for MAC and Linux (and windows for that matter). It's primarily command line but there are separate GUIs for it as well. If you search around the forums you'll find some posts on it. If you can't find it, PM me and I'll see if I can locate it.

[Q] Any current way to flash back to stock from DK28 on OSX?

I used the update.zip method and need to get back to stock for the update on Monday. I do not have access to a Windows box and the secondary bootloader bug is keeping me from using Heimdall.
Do I have any other option here?
Thanks all,
Boutwell
ummmm.... sell your mac and buy three decent PCs? Just kiddin... Im pretty sure theres mac instructions somewhere in Dev... if you do a search for mac or OSX, you will probly find it, or other mac users who have a method.
Edit: sorry, Heimdall=Odin??? Dont all mac users have windoze emulators??? or do they not work...? You have a nandroid backup??

It's in the wiki in the Dev section... I'll get ya the link.
Nevermind the Mac haters here. Lol.
Enjoy! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=808103
side note: this is also why I have my Mac dual-booted with win7 64... always have the tool to get the job done! Mac or Win it doesn't matter.
I'm a linux user and heimdall works great for me. Its best if you compile it for your machine from source. The creator of heimdall has great how to guides in the source for all operating systems for people new to compiling.

Sorry it's a problem with the way the application is packaged on OS X. It will work if you download and install the Qt libraries. However if you don't want to install anything else then ficeto came up with a temporary fix.

Yes, bootcamp.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the replies. I ended up using a Windows box at work with the Samsung program they released and it went straight to the new version with no problems at all.
Wish they had released a Mac version of that app rather than the version-clocked update.zip they put out!

Come on dude you've been here since almost the beginning and you can't use SuperOneClick?
You literally open it, plug your phone in, and hit root...
Or you could be a little more specific to your problem other than "it just doesn't work"
Come on man you did it once before(obviously) xP

I had to use soc a second time after reboot...1st SOC-reboot-no root-2nd SOC-reboot-root success!..jus do process twice

Unfortunately there is a bug with the windows sdk that makes developing on some phones a pain in the a##, because it fails to connect to the phone so you can't deploy your app to test it (could be ok with the a500 - I haven't tried in windows). I would suggest you install linux on a vm and use that instead. There is no need for drivers with linux and everything works flawlessly. I'm not trying to "convert" you into using linux or anything - the bug is Google's fault (not MS) and they are aware of it but don't seem to care. I installed a linux vm just for developement and use windows for everything else that can't be done on the iconia.

Creating a Rom and Kernel.

So as everyone has probably noticed alot of people have opted-out of the X10 community, developers and consumers alike.
I have this phone for another year so I would like to learn how to create rom's and kernels so I can contribute back to those who have help fed my flash addiction.
Where do I start??
Thanks in advance for the input,
Vader

I would also like to learn how to make my own ROM and kernels to contribute to the site and phone.
It won't come to you automatically guys .
Read through the forum , Read Read & Read .
Experiment things .. You'll get lots of headaches , But it'll be worth it .
& Then ask for help , There should be a issue to solve right .
Thanks Oodie. I didn't know there was an entire section of the forum dedicated to this as well.
Nathvader check this out.
Oh well would you look at that! Ok everybody I should have ICS port and kernel up and running by tomorrow...
hehe jk will start small thanks for the help Oodie love your roms btw!
Also good luck Dragon Outlaw King!

I believe you can develop in whatever environment/OS you want, but you will need a working knowledge of linux to be able to work on kernels especially and ROMs too (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

For kernel stuff I think you have to be on Linux, because of the required dependencies and libraries.

There's a whole sub-forum on this site for Android Rom Cooking, why don't you have a look in there...

First u need a fast internet connection to download stuff(kitchen, sdk.etc)
Then a Linux machine(u can get it for free)
Then its not easy as u put popcorn in ur microwave and it comes out cooked
U need to learn commands(Different commands are required for different things)
Like u have to type many commands to compile(correct me if i m wrong)
And if u get errors their are different commands to solve that error
I know only this much but i don't know any command
I have windows

[ INFO ] Links to Get you Started Working with Android

Ok so I've gotten a few ( quite a few ) PM's about wanting to get started doing some " Dev " type stuff. Since I'm not the even close to the being able to teach . I'll do the next best thing I can. I'll Link you guys to Guides, Tools, and anything I can think of that you may need to get going in the right direction. Just remember READ, READ, and READ some more. Don't be afraid to use the search feature . Oh and BTW this is just the ones I know of, and can think of right now ( It's been a long day ). If anyone else knows of any feel free to post up. I know I'm forgetting stuff. I'll change the OP as it needs to be adjusted.
One last thing. Although by all means I encourage you hitting the THANKS Button for the Links . I would also remind you to hit the THANKS Button for the authors of the Guides Linked. They put a lot of work and Effort into them, and I'm sure they would appreciate it .
Thank you Gentleman for the suggestions and Additions to the Links. It is much Appreciated.

Much appreciated. I'm nowhere ready to start on any significant dev work, but i'd like to try my hand at it after the first of the year. I know the basic basic basic basics of programming in general and i can follow logic well enough, its just time consuming to sit down and actually try it out. But i absolutely love the shift and would love to see things continue with it.
nice collection you got going on there prboy, im sure a lot of people will find this very helpful

The best Linux tool I've used is by Tommytomatoe called android-utility and I'm almost sure there is a mac version.
Has adb functions to push and pull,a logcat function uhm will do apks and jar files.
Another Linux tool I've tried was something along the lines of studio android and the last I checked that tool would set ones Linux box up to compile from source in a gui I'm guessing something like lithids.
Maybe a Windows tool to have would be win merge if it let's you compare text files and directory's to see what's different
