Fastest way to go to xrecovery mode - XPERIA X10 General

i found/discover that we can go to xrecovery mode without using the back back back button..
here it goes...
when the sony ericson text logo appear just simply press again the Power Button 1 time and boom you're in the xrecovery mode..
hit thanks if it works...

if you press ANY KEY on se logo you are in recovery
if you press power in recovery you reboot device

that's epic j

I found pressing power got me in xrecicery quicker BUT power to exit and reboot made the phone hang at black screen and I had to pull the battery to reboot it again

Even volume button works

i just think a flow like this :
- Menu reboot - recovery create an empty file name recovery.rec or something and then reboot
- chargemon search this created file, if found enter recovery (and delete this file), if not boot as usual
so no need to press any button and pretty save i think.

yes this has already been thought of.... but incase u are stuck @bootscreen or suddenly rebooted with wlod/multiple FCs then how u plan to go in xrec?

add the procedure with
- if file no found, check for key pressed, like the current one

help.....

Ok now before I start... I did search and all that but im still kinda confused. Ok so I got a droid x and I want to root it and install the jrummy rom. I got z4root but im confused on the boot strap and how to install and how it works.... im not new to rooting as I rooted my droid 1 and droid incredible in the past. All info is welcomed and thanks in advance.
The bootstrap allows you to take and restore backups. You can also use it to flash update.zip file for themes/roms/mods
If you google koush dro id x bootstrap and search around on the forums here u can probably find the answers you are looking for. If you have specific questions post back here and I will do my best to help out!
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I am by no means an expert at android. I was really into Windows Mobile until the last couple of months but was fed up with what MS did with Phone7 -so I just made the jump to android.
Root with Z4root first. then first thing create a back up so if something goes haywire - you are covered. I actually create 2 just in case.
To create your nandroid backup go to the android market and get Droid X Bootstrapper...
1. Open Droid X Bootstrapper.
2. Click "Bootstrap Recovery".
3. Get the "Success" message. Click "OK".
4. Click "Reboot Recovery".
5. Your phone will reboot into recovery (not the factory recovery -a hacked recovery).
6. Use the volume rocker to move down to "-backup and restore".
7. Use the red camera button to hit enter.
8. A new screen will open and your cursor will already be on "Backup".
9. Use the camera button to hit enter.
10. Your phone starts the backup process (black screen with a small open box and a little android). It takes about 5 minutes to complete the backup.
11. When it is done you will get a "Backup complete!" at the bottom and will it will automatically go back to the first page and your cursor will be highlighting the "-reboot system now" option.
12. Press the red camera button to hit "enter".
13. Your phone will reboot.
14. You have created your nandroid
If you dont have the app "Root Explorer" you need to give up the couple of bucks or whatever it is and get it. You can try some free file explorer apps and see how they work for you -but Root Explorer is worth the $ and I will refer to it in instructions.
Flashing the rom... I will use an example for this rom...
Apex 1.3
It is the rom I am using. It is stable and functional. It uses the ADW.Launcher as a home replacement for Blur.Home.apk -so if you are not familiar with it it takes some getting used to (a little complicated as far as all the settings). It also uses the AOSP text messaging which I do not like (but it can be changed back to Blur.
You can use whatever rom you want- but the instructions will not be exactly the same. Whatever rom you decide on -MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTIONS NOT MINE! Usually the first post of the rom thread will contain pretty clear instructions.
START WITH A FULL BATTERY!! I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY BLAH BLAH BLAH...
For example from the above thread...
-Place file on your sdcard. Bootstrap recovery and reboot recovery
-Navigate to mounts and storage. FORMAT data, and cache
-Return to previous menu and install .zip from sd card
-Choose ApeX and install!
Click to collapse
1. Download the rom.
2. If you use rom manager to download -you will have to find the rom which will be in a .zip file and it will be in some weird place in your phone's SDCard like
/sdcard/clockworkmod/download/fabdroid.com/downloads/
so you will have to move it to the root of your sdcard (meaning not inside any file folder -just on the sdcard.
3. So if you dont want to deal with that you can download from your computer and then place on your sdcard.
4. Open "Droid X Bootstrapper".
Click "Bootstrap Recovery".
5. Get the "Success" message. Click "OK".
6. Click "Reboot Recovery".
7. Your phone will reboot into recovery.
6. Use the volume rocker to move down to "-mounts and storage".
7. Use the red camera button to hit enter.
8. Use the volume rocker to move down to "-format data".
9. Hit enter (camera button).
(From here I am working on memory as I do not want to physically reflash the rom - so the instructions will not be quite as 100%)
10. You will get a "Are you sure?" message.
11. Go down to it and hit enter.
12. The phone will take a moment to format the data.
13. Use the same process to "-format cache".
14. Use the back button (the physical hardware back button) to return to the previous screen.
15. Go down to "-install zip from sdcard"
16. Hit enter.
17. Now all the files on the root of your sdcard will be listed. It is crucial that you placed the rom file on the root of your sdcard so that you can now choose it from the list. If there is no file to choose -you just completely screwed up and will have to perform the sbf. So hopefully you don't do that.
18. Use the volume button to select the Apex rom.
19. Hit enter (the camera button). I can't remember if you get a warning here - if you do - of course you want to confirm.
20. The new rom will load up.
21. If it does not automatically reboot then "-reboot system now".
The first boot up will take longer than usual. You will have to set up your phone all over again. If you have set up your phone properly then all your apps will download from the market automatically. If you have not set up your phone to do that than you will have to manually find your apps and download them.
Hopefully you are using Google to store your contacts and not Backup Asistant and the regular phone contacts. If you are using Google then your contacts should automatically be added back. If not then you are on your own bc I don't mess with Backup Assistant.
That is the best I can do with out physically flashing the rom and...
EVERY ROM HAS ITS OWN SPECIFIC INTRUCTIONS
You can use this as a guide but make sure you do what the rom developer says.
He pretty much explained everything you need to know, LOL
I personally like Darkslide V4. It is a very sweet ROM, but try different ones out and see which one suits you best.

Hi there!
I copied and pasted the folders into \system\bin but when i restart the phone, i can't run xrecovery... i keep tapping the right key and nothing! the phone only restarts...
Then i tried another version, and nothing too...

Having the same problem
Completely new to all this, but I'm having the same problem.
I have already installed a custom ROM successfully, but it started boot looping due to me having old firmware.
I updated the firmware with PC companion to latest version, rerooted, and tried again, but now I am unable to boot into Xrecovery. I have tried a few different versions of busybox and xrecovery, but nothing worked.
I just did a factory reset, and formatted the SD card, and now I am unable to paste files into sytem/bin using root explorer.
What have I done wrong??
Any help much appreciated!
Look in here, maybe it will help.

Well, just power on, and when the Sony Ericson logo appears, start pressing the '<-' (back) key as if you were pressing the 'Del' key in your computer to boot into bios!
That should do it!

/system/build.prop tweaks

I'm not responsible to any damage which is caused by applying any modification listed below to your phone.
Backup
If you made mistake to this file, you phone will not boot in gui, so you should always backup the file before you make any change to it. Just use any file manager to copy the file to your sd card or your pc.
Restore
If you have a Linux machine you can mount the /system partition while plugging in with the purple screen (vol up + vol down + power).
Easiest way: get Ubuntu, put your phone in purple screen, plug in with USB, you will see the system partition at your Ubuntu desktop.
The hard way: if the /system partition is no accessible under purple screen mode (such as in the latest 528 rom), you can use adb push the backup file back, search the web for details about how to use adb.
I'm digging the build.prop, some apps can do some of these tweaks for you, but I prefer typing myself. You need to reboot the phone to take effect.
1. windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=75
add this new line to make UI more responsive, the bigger the value the more responsive, I've tried 90, too fast, fall back to 75, still quite fast
2. ro.config.hw_menu_unlockscreen=false
change value from "false" to "true" to enable menu key unlocking screen
3. ro.sf.lcd_density=240
change to 225 to increase the resolution of display, as a result, the size of icon on home page and fonts of list (of file manager or contact) become smaller, the smaller the value the smaller size of icon and fonts
4. dalvik.vm.heapsize=24m
increase the value to 32m~48m to increase stability and performance, tested but doesn't see much effect so far
all so if you tried games like nova or brother in arms that have black screen or graphic probs do this they now all work
go to /system/build.prop and edit it to this then close and turn the phone off / on do a build.prop DO A BUILD.PROP BACKUP FIRST ALLWAYS A MUST BEFOR PLAYING AROUND.
once the phone is on go to settings about phone model number and it will say Desire HD.
Then download games for the htc desire hd and it works.
if you want it back to standed just replace it with the backup
i think the suggestions are great!
big thx!!!
thanks for the share
Do I just change the name, where it says build.prop now?
sorry there are still some games that wont work like brother in arms 2 and modern combat black pegasus but all the others work like
splinter cell
sandstorm
n.o.v.a.
and so on
your phone hast to be rooted and use root explorer and go to
/system/build.prop and open and edit the text then reboot your phone
backed up the build.prop and made the changes. On restart it hangs on boot screen (huawei name and logo) I have to remove the battery to switch off. tried connecting to the PC to restore build.prop but it doesnt load the phone memory. Only launches the mobile partner autostart. Also tried updating by adding update.zip to sd card but says signature verification failed. Tried lading general update from huaweidevice.com onto dload directory on sd card, Just shows purple screen on booting with power, vol up and down. Please advice.

Thank you..a mate uses linux so went over and it worked like a charm. I hadn't put the 'm' at the end in 'dalvik.vm.heapsize=24m' but it is sorted now. Thanks again.
Hi there. Is there any value in build.prop file to decrease the time that the screen rotates?I measure that the default time is about 1sec.I want it 500ms or lower.
ive root and root explorer, but when i try to edit the build.prob it says that its read only rom .
whats the problem?
sry for my bad english
In the top right hand corner there is a button which says 'mount r/w' press it and your filesystem will be read/write. Then make the changes to build.prop then press the button again then reboot.
volume headphones?
Where can I find the file corresponding to the volume of the sound through headphones? A similar problem occurred on the ZTE, but was repaired in the new ROM.

I found the compination of speaker=80 and wired_headset=80 pretty cool.Has anyone found a better setting?
headphone volume
80 is too much. For me the best settings are:
- speaker 75 (default)
- Headphones 70 (higher values will cause the overload of sound)
With this setup is really cool .
Swype
The original ROM is installed Swype keyboard, but not in the Polish language. It is not possible to uninstall Swype and you can not install a new keyboard. Despite the ROOT system does not allow the removal of the keyboard ("cust/hw/ideos_x5/app / "). Does anyone know how to remove the keyboard, or where to replace your dictionary?

unfortunately I've got the same problem with you, I changed a file's name in the system/ directory now the phone bricks. I mounted it on mu ubuntu laptop and found that file but it says I have no permission to change it back...what should do now?
edit: never mind, I got it solved with sudo. I am a stupid linux noobie.
I just opened the file, but there's no "windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec" in it, i found the rest (2-4), does someone know why?
Edit: after applying the B160 ROM, i found this line, works great

efs imei keystr problem - please help

Last week my phone developed this well known fault and the Home button does work because from Power Off I can do the 3 button press into Recovery or Download.
A few things I've done:
Wiped data/factory reset
Wiped Dalvik
Wipe Cache Partitions
Installed different ROMs including Darky 10.1, 10.2 and 11 with and without ODIN.
Tried the SGS ButtonRemapper app but it says it's not made for my I9000 phone!!
Tried the Terminal Emulator app using the commands su (enter) echo -n etc commands and then reboot but that doesn't fix it.
Copied an XDA users keystr file and map_code.dat file into the efs/emei folder but once in there the ON disappears from the file!!!
(I also have a copy in the efs folder and the ON remains in the body of the file but copied to the emie folder and it goes missing!!!)
Tried to use the Hex Editor app but once inside the efs/imie directory there are no files there !!! (jumping back to Root Explorer shows they are there!!!).
In recovery mode I went into ADVANCED and tried the KEY SET command and all keys except the Home key show a number!!!
Any help appreciated.

Easiest solution, should be a downgrade to froyo or Eclair Firmware and upgrade after recovery , cannot understand why you are trying to mess with keystr file as that is related to missing IMEI and not home key functions. maybe this may help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26827676&postcount=4512" if you EFS has problems

because all over this forum the answer to get the Home function key back is to redo the keystr file !!! (or perhaps I've read something wrong).
