When I get certain SMS's from non-contact numbers the SMS application shows it to be from a certain friend of mine. It is not him and the real contact information of the sender is only shown correctly in the SMS widget.
But if I go into the SMS application the message is associated to a contact of mine who has nothing to do with the SMS.
example: when I am on roaming I get an SMS informing me I am on a certain roaming network. when i look into the SMS application it tells me that the SMS came from a friend of mine.
any solutions ?
I have this exact issue too.

so no solutions then ?
HTC haven't even responded to my query regarding this issue.
I think I can help you guys but in order to make sure that you are affected by the same problem, please try the following and let me know:
1) Try to edit one of your contacts (one you haven't modified before) in other words, not frequently used and select the option to block that contact. Now go to the list of blocked users. Is the one you blocked in there or someone else instead?
2) Try to change the ringtone for one of your contacts again. Is the ringtone changed or same as before?
I get that problem sometimes, with new contacts. But usally solves itself, after about 10-20 SMS?
Guys your missing the issue, when we receve calls or text from people NOT in our contacts, sometimes the device will just pick a random contact and say its from them lol

Hi to all,
Unfortunately, for several days unable to send massages from WildFire.
When i trying to send msg i get notice-"unable send message after multiple attempt".
By the way i tried to enter into a 'Service Center' but there isn't option to change something there.
Any advise?
Thanks in advance.
My girlfriend has the same issues with her Wildfire, both using the buildin SMS application and with ChompSMS.
Some times she gets the error too (several times a day) and she has to resend the messages. The really weird stuff is though, that the receiver actually sometimes do get the message the first time resulting in that the receiver gets the message several times.
And I have the exact same issue with my Desire.. Right now I'm searching high and low for a solution. I've talked to my provider (BiBoB, Denmark, using Telenors network), and they've told me that they could not see anything unusual about the message, so it would either be our phones or our SIM cards.
Since some others have problems too, I suspect Android.

Facebook to blame for identical problem
Had this problem with my wife's Wildfire last night. Turns out, Facebook was to blame.
The number of the person she was sending the text to changed on Facebook to the format "447### ######" instead of "07### ######". The link between the contact on the phone and Facebook meant the Facebook contact number became the default for that person and as the number wasn't valid, it failed when trying to send a text message or dial a voice call.
Fortunately, the contact in question was me so I removed my number from Facebook and the one on the handset started to work again....

Are you trying to send an SMS or MMS ?
For MMS you need to configure the APNs of your provider:

Hi,
I've found why i didn't success to send messages, the problem was in definition of "Service Center" of my cellular provider.
Now everything is work fine.
Thanks.
I'm on t mobile and been having a problem sending txs, sometimes its fine then all a sudden it fails and tries to resend but carnt. Very frustrating, then the next day I get message from t mobile saying I've sent a message to an invalid number. Very strange can any 1 help

First I'd suggest calling customer service. Since it only fails sometimes, the issue may be with their service centre number.
If that doesn't work try backup->hardreset so the phone can get the operator settings again and start fresh. ( the latter option is a bit extreme so only perform if u've got no other left and you know what you are doing )
Ok ill give them a ring 2orw as its bugging me so much lol. Cheers

Do you have this problem with all numbers or just one or two? Check the number that you're trying to send to. I was having this same problem and I figured out that it was happening because I have Facebook contacts linked into my phonebook, and it pulls friends numbers into the phone book and uses the number as default. One of my friends had written their number on Facebook incorrectly (adding the country code the wrong way), so my phone wasn't using a valid number when I tried to text him. The only way I could stop this happening was to unlink his FB profile from his number in my phonebook.
Give this a look. Hope it helps.

I am getting this on one contact only. For some reason as soon as they have replied to me the number used changes from +44 to 044 which then fails when I try sending to it. So far it isn't happening to other contacts and if I open this contact profile all the numbers are correct with +44 or 0 prefixes. As suggested above I tried unlinking the FB profile but this didn't help (this particular contact doesn't have their number on FB anyway).
I did a factory reset and All is working fine. Mine was just the one number as well which was annoying is it was the Mrs lol.

Factory reset mine earlier this evening and seems fine so far. Fingers crossed as it is the only thing I have found to fault mine with so far.
my legend have an error on SMS.
I have sent a SMS to person A, and the SMS is also display on person A's SMS dislog, but after that , person B tell me that he received it, and person A didn't receive it.
does any body have this problem??
and how to slove it??
I've read about this in some news which says that it is a official failure by Google.

Yeah i've been there too.
If you long-press on the message that went wrong and select info, then you will see what number the sms went to for real.
This started when I used an app (think it was SMS Popup).
Now I only use handcent and haven't seen this problem since.
Android bug. Nothing you can do really except if you use a third party messaging app. Wait for a fix from Google.
Thanks you guys help~~

Hi Folks
Don't know if i have found major flaw in the HTC Sense and Facebook sync software.
Here is the story, i have all my contacts stored on my phone with the correct phone numbers. And you know how you can link your contacts in your phone with there facebook profile so that you get there profile picture showing up and there latest status update scrolling along the screen when they call you? So that is all very pretty and cool but......
I have just discovered that if the persons profile has there phone number added to it, HTC will decide that it knows your contacts better than you and CHANGE the phone number you have stored in your phone for that person to an INCORRECT format.
Here is what i mean, the numbers in my phone book are stored as 07 or +447 as the start digits (I'm in the UK and all mobiles start 07). When i link the contact with there facebook profile and the profile has a phone number stored, HTC Sense will automatically change the number in my phone into the following format: 447*********
Now if you note that number has no + at the start of it and this means that i CANNOT phone that person! It took me about a month to work out why i couldn't call half the people in my phonebook, everytime i phoned someone it would say 'the number you have dialled has not been recognised!' and i eventually worked it out the HTC and Facebook have effed up my phone book.
Now this wouldn't be such an issue if you could edit the number to the correct format but you CAN'T!!! When you go to edit the number it shows the number in the correct format that i had originally entered it! ie. either 07 or +447!
So for the now i have had to unlink all my contacts from Facebook and have ended up with a pretty boring screen when people phone or txt me.
Anyone else had this issue? Or know how to fix it?
If HTC read this can you issue a fix? Because i don't think that you or facebook knows better than i do!
no problem here i have linked to facebook and my numbers work
I have both 447######## and 07######## type numbers they work ok
my 447 numbers are facebook contacts i did not have thier numbers previously and my 07 numbers are mates I already had their numbers and linked afterwards
Hope this helps
Well must b something to do with my network (o2) or whatever. Cos i certainly can't dial a 447 number.
But the main point i think is why does HTC think its knows what your stored number should be? lol
Cyberdyne systems are certainly starting to take over now surely! lolol
fail
epic fail i think
Indeed epic...
I got exactly the same problem with Polish operator Plus GSM -> cant call contact which was synchronized with Facebook...
HTC Sense shows all contacts which were synced with Facebook without leading "+" or "00" which ends up with message like "The number you have dialed has not been recognized"
Any one know how to fix it...??
BR
Greg
P.S. Hope HTC will read this topic.. .
Same problem with me in Georgia.
only workaround, I've found is begging all my friends, not to specify phone numbers on facebook
If anyone has a solution, I will be very grateful.
Yep same here, definitely a bug. I will research this one....

Hi,
I contacted an official HTC Support to help in this case.
They confirmed that this bug exist, but they also pointed Facebook and the Facebook Phonebook as a bug source.
I was also recommended to use "Prefixer" from Android Market to temporarily solve this problem.
BR
Greg
Wow! thanks,
will try Prefixer as soon as I can
Yep it's a flaw, I used a little workaround but it would change back when receiving a text or something. Edit facebook number set it to home rather than mobile then let it save go back into out then save the homer number as mobile. I think that's how I did it. I use aosp rom now.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Foxy are you saying the AOSP ROM has this bug fixed out of the box? If so I can investigate that ROM and maybe make a patch
Prefixer works for calls but not for text

Yeah, I'm sure you can reverse engineer HTC's crappy phone dialer/messaging/contacts.
AOSP works out of the box because it uses AOSP apps.
When you download the Facebook for Android app, it asks you to sync contacts. DON'T DO IT. Whenever someone has a phone number in their Facebook profile, regardless of if there is an existing contact that it will link to or not, the number will have a +1 in front of it. For instance, a number that should read 123-456-7890 would read +1123-456-7890. Facebook adds this for unknown reasons. When you send a text to the borked number, the text goes through, even on verizon.com, it says that the text was sent by you and that the other person received it on their profile. However, the person does not receive it on their phone. Also, if you call someone with a borked number, the phone will not ring.
In conclusion: Don't sync Facebook contacts, and your SMS should send fine and calling should work fine. Alternatively, you can use any messaging app but stock, such as Go SMS Pro and the message will go through fine, even with the +1 format.
Hope this helped someone.

Nice Find man i havent noticed this but ill be weary of this from now on
How does this explain people receiving some messages and not others? If it was the number they wouldn't receive any texts at all, not just 30% of them. I noticed this a while ago and I couldn't call people with the +1, but they received texts just fine.
Sent from my Optimized Shift using XDA App
Only people who have their numbers listed in their Facebook profile are affected.
This is what worked for me. If it doesn't work for you, then I'm sorry.
I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying maybe there's two seperate issues. Without my Facebook contacts synced some messages are going through and some aren't. Maybe its just me, but I've seen posts with people saying the same. Thank you for your solution nonetheless.
Sent from my Optimized Shift using XDA App
You're welcome. I'm not saying by any means that this will solve everyone's issues. Just my experienced and it worked for me. Best of luck to you on sorting whatever is up with your SMS out. What ROM are you using?
+1 is the country code for the USA, no idea why it's adding it though. I know that wavesecure requires you add +1 to the contacts on your contact list since the texts come from somewhere in asia IIRC (may not be true now since McAfee owns them).
I know it is, but since it's a cell phone, you don't use the 1 or +1, which messes it up.
Thank you for putting this up. I was confused and frustrated as to why lots of my contacts didn't receive or was able to send any texts or calls to me. But now its all good
I'm going to test this theory. Hope this works. Thanks

Try using Contacts Clean-up from Android Market. It works great and resolved my issue on the fly. Dev just made it CDMA compatible
I think this only matters on sense roms. I know I need to be on aosp for dialing businesses through voice search to work because it also adds a +1 (at least it used to).
Thanks for the post. It was driving me crazy.
