Customizing My Phone - Galaxy 3 General

Hi guys,
I've been using Lestatious ROM for a while, and while I love the functionality, I'd like to attempt making my own theme.
I've been searching for guides for modifying the framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk files, but all the guides I find are misleading and make it seem much more complicated then I think it actually is.
Also, In the Lestatious ROM, the lockscreen is customized, I was wanting to make it look a little more like simply a white arrow pointing right to unlock. I didn't really want the sound icon on the right, but if I can't remove it, I wanted to make it a left arrow.
I'm not sure where to start though to be honest. Since I'm not overly amazing with photoshop either.
For example, check out the second post on this page:
http://androidforums.com/android-themes/4425-post-your-android-desktop-89.html
And something like this I'd REALLY like for the lock screen:
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5296/5503488772_623b5c8a06.jpg
And I'd like my notification bar like:
http://www.xda-developers.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/matte.png

Awesome concept...
-Techass

I can only say.. The font is COMFORTAA..

Haha k so we got one font down
Anyone who knows photoshop well think they could do this?

How about watching tutorials etc. and doing it on your own ?

I thought I explained that I couldn't find an actual tutorial online. I can easily unpack the apk, but if someone wants to tell me how I can resign it properly, then I'll do it.

[DEV] [NEW GRAPHIC ADDED] New TouchWizish Ui [DEVELOPERS NEEDED]

Here is my thought....
I am very good with graphic design and propose that a lot of developers help me out on this project.
What is the Project?
The idea is to create a "TouchFlo 3Dish" Ui but have the tabs on the side instead of the top.
Why go through all the work?
Well if we are able to do this it would allow for more developers to implement more tabs into this.
Ex. Sports scores,T.V,RSS, Games, and much More!!!!!
Just think of the possibilities.
I have a developer that will help me out on this... but i need more!
Here is a quick dummy graphic i came up with....
I like that idea alot. It's almost like a mix of TFlo3D and the Omnia widget. I can't do much with the developing process but I am good with graphics and theme making so if you would like any help in those fields i'd be glad to assist.
Hope to see this some progress on this soon,
dwizzy130
That is the idea of it....
to have the Good Looks of TF3D but with more functionality like the touchwiz
I'm in! Let me know what I can do to help.

Nice idea. Adding more tabs is always great. But May I suggest something?
I can see that this is probably the screen size of a Omnia. But placing the tab bar at the side of the screen, eats up more real estate on the screen.
Placing the bar at the bottom of the screen, with ability to 'scroll' the tab, would be a good idea in my opinion.
After all, the thumb is at the bottom of the screen most of the time. So it would be easier to scroll the tab rather than utilizing both hands to navigate.
Hope you can take human ergonomics into consideration.
why not allow the user to put the tabs bar on the side, or on the bottom?
oh, it looks like as i was reading and typing someone else had the same idea as me...(the post right above this one!)

Yes, that would be great for the user to select the location of the tabs bar to be in.
Also, in the truth, the present layout (on the side of the screen) looks akin to landscape mode. I am sure it would be useful for people will slide out keyboards and still be able to scroll the tabs by hand !
This is getting interesting .
edit: I may not be able to contribute much, but I can try skinning the new layout when it is finalize.
this sounds like a great idea how about including the arrow that will hide and unhide the side menu it would be cool to have it........my knowledge of coding is very basic all i cn do is graphic designing and u dnt need that
yah i will definitely give the user the option to put it on the bottom or the top...
and no it is not omnia... it is Touch HD

Hi,

But, look for compatibility on other devices as Touch HD.
The most users i think have not an VGA device.

Great!!! IDEA!!!
That would allow everything to be full screen!!
ok i'll add that to the list....
look forward to seeing somekind of progress "first release" in the next week... hopefully...
Wow, this is a really good idea! I look forward to seeing this as a finished product. Good luck, and if it looks even close to that image, you will have sold me.
Dave
that is looking good. what do you think of a transparent manila clock?
there is a customized manila over from ppcgeeks by juggalo_x and his manila has a clear clock, i think its nice... works well with custom backgrounds. worth at least taking a look.
What a Great idea. I can help test it on my Titan and give you feedback and pictures.
I'll be willing to test and donate for this.
Could test on Fuze or Kaiser.
this will be absolutely magnificent.
First i think before any customization... i think we should get it to run... smoothly.....
we will most likely do one tab at a time...
ie. Home tab in first beta.
hopefully we will get one going soon!!!

New XDA Theme

So who's tried or is using the new XDA forum theme?
You can view it from: User CP>Edit Options>Scroll down to the bottom>Forum Skin>XDA 2010 - BETA
It's pretty nice. Nice update to the look.
whoa. just changed it to check it out. diffinetly a big change. the font looks really light so its a bit harder for me to read it.
oooo I really like this. Definitely looks a LOT more modern than the old theme.
I like it!

loving this, thanks

Im willing to give it a full few days.
Haha my eyes had a seizure when the page first loaded. I like how modern it looks though, and I'll stick with it for a while
takes a bit to get used to but im liking it
I haven't used it yet, but I REALLY like the "multi-quote" button on this new theme.
It's a major change from the old theme, but it is a beta, so I'm sure anything majorly weird about it will be cleaned up later. I actually really like it. It's super clean and tidy
So much better than the pre-1997 theme we had before! Thanks for catching up to 2010 xda!
I used it for a day...
I REALLY like the way it looks but for some reason, on my phone, the sub-forum lists of threads scroll VERY SLOOOWWWWW.
Switched back
I like the new look as well. Love the XDAdevelopers font -- anyone know where I can get it?
I'll definitely give it some time. I've always thought the old theme needed a bit of face lift, so far this does justice.
Thanks for pointing this out gu1dry!

Lasted for about 15 minutes for me as well. Looks really nice, but I found it hard to read / find things. Probably just the "pain of change". I've grown too accustomed to the old layout...

Biggest thing for me is how little differentiation there is between quoted text and the new message. There was huge contrast in the old theme, and w/o it, it just makes it a little harder to read. Also, I noticed that, using the stock browser on the phone (i also don't like the app), when it resizes the text, you can't see who posted w/o scrolling. I find that annoying. Considering that 95% of my time on xda is spent on my phone, I almost have to go back.
I like it. I switched and will keep it permenant. It's quite nice. I wish they had a dark theme though where it was a white text on black background thing. That's how I have Visual Studio set up and I can last all day coding in it that way. With the default white background I only last about 4 hours before I have a huge headache....

Can someone tell me how to install this or point me to a link that explains how.

Yeah, had to use the blue carbon theme as a base to get the battery to work properly as the original one i wad using only had 8 stages.
Wanna do a "how to" next so people can add their own icons and custom battery images. Think if the masses new how easy it was, we could have alot more themes.
Im no dev nor graphic designer but managed to chop it all together.
Im sure someone out there could build a solid base file ?
Ps. Any chane of getting this on the mini site, as it was designed to work on leedroid ?
Could you please tell me what files i have to change to get a transparent notification bar whit circle mod A?
Or if you could manage to put that together that would be even more awesome
I was looking for this, very cool!
Nice one markhd. Youve inspired me to get theming. I spent a good part of yesterday learning the ins and outs and after many nandroids and boot loops ive figured it out. Im gonna check out themes for other sense phones like incredible and evo and see what i can port over(if i can). Cheers

you have an desire rooted James ?
No havent rooted yet because I havent had a good enough reason to do it. I have a card that i bought so that I can create the gold card etc, just not got round to do it as changing the theme isnt enough to make me root it.

Hi james, the benifits for many people make it well worth while, in addition to themes there are many more things to play with. For example custom roms with extra features, the ability to run apps from sd fully, bootscreens, sounds, icons, widgets, even some apps ( do a search on the market). Various fixes for bugs and issues that have been corrected by devs on here are often only availably via a flashable .zip of which useually require root.
There are also risks involved, you could brick your phone / kill your cat / forget to do the washing up. But i have not known anyone on here have an issue that could not be fixed, and now orange uk is sorted i believe all rooting can now be reversed.
Anyony please correct above info above as appropriate as i wouldnt want to miss inform anyone, just tryin to help clear up some points.

Great theme, thanks for your work. Am using it on Alex-V 1.7 ROM.
Bit of a battery drainer though!
I like it, but any chances to mod this theme and have green buttons etc (not blue!)
I was about to boot into recovery and flash when I suddenly realized I was on the SuperVillainHD-train. I'm doubting that this will work.
Buuuut I'm gonna have to try, later.

I tried it, but I dont like it. The one long continuous home screen is cool, but I dont like the dullness that is the app drawer. All I want is the stock launcher with the ability to go to 1 home screen and change the grid size. Anyone know of such a thing for honeycomb?
i do not get the need to change to launcher ui.when I have my tablet in my hand im looking at a app I use. Don't care much for all the not needed flash .keep it simple save the CPU cycles and memory for the apps and browser.
With that said the pics look nice. Just dont see tthe point
Good responses I didn't like it cuz I have SPB shell and this launcher still needs alot of work to it in my eyes. That being said FOR THOSE THAT WANT CHANGE and don't wanna spend 15 on a 3D launcher this might be of interest which is why I decided to post

Who needs an App Drawer when you can have these Folder Cubes.
This video is after an hour or so of goofing with it.
No way was this a quick process. But it was easy to do.
Yes I did move every app from my App Drawer to the Folder
Cube on the desktop.
And no. You haven't lost or began to need reading glasses.
Just try imagine that I took the time to clear up the video a little bit.
There's not a lot that I can do to lessen the pointlessness. So. Much like the video. I didn't
even try to correct that one. Sorry E.R.
Not too bland eh?
It is easy to see that the larger icons take a few seconds to load. I will send a link to this video to the dev and see if there is a way to put large, and even customized icons (for the ones that it doesn't find.) into the cache somewhere. Maybe it will be an easy fix. Other than that I have to say that it is pretty nice on the Iconia. I don't regret buying it one bit. Now to find the Nook Color...

Look for a app called Folder Organizer.. I have it and set it up once it allows you create groups with menus on your home screen .. not exactly what your looking for but you might like it.. also DENSITY CHANGER APP.. im not sure the exact name .. changes the screen density . This changes the icon size not sure if it will allow you to drop more on there or not..

No problem. This app works just as well on the Nook Color as it does on the Acer. (?!?Maybe even better?!?) Thanks again for sharing the find. I'll use this for a solid couple of days and report back on the stability. As well as any news. So far so good though.

What does everyone think of the 2013 beta xda theme?

Just switched to it myself and I rather like it,will take some getting used to but it seems alot more feature packed.
So what are your views on the new theme?
(if you don't know how to switch to it scroll to the bottom of a page and in the left corner you will see theme changer switch to 2013 beta)
I'm not fan of the 2010 or 2013 Beta - the XDA Classic suits me and I've been using it since the beginning. The new themes have a too "White" effect for my taste - while the Classic theme is plain and simple for browsing. Just my opinion...
I wonder how many people are using the new themes vs the classic one.
XDA 2013 Beta
I like the 2013 beta. Thanks for pointing it out. The Portal Posts on the right hand side is cool. They should scroll with the page though.
Also, browser resizing is causes some issues. There is a lot of left to right scrolling going on if I don't have my browser in full screen. All in all, a worthy upgrade to the visual styling of XDA.
I had to hit XDA Classic for a moment and whoa... I think I was just transported to 2006!
I didn't know this. Just switched the theme (on the bottom of each page). I like it because the FB, G+, YT-Icons are not wasting space.
And it looks great. Thanks for this hint.
Feels nice .. noticed it only after your post ..
Thanks for letting us know mate...
It is very nice and clean
I don't like the font it's too narrow and difficult to read
After using it for a while I am not to sure I like the grey on white... something is missing, but after all it is only a beta so we shall have to see how the theme develops!
I like it but feel that its somehow to cluttered. Maybe some work on the colour scheme would help correct this. Still really like it though
Thanks for pointing it out, havenĀ“t seen it yet.
What I like:
- Specs in the device "root" directory - just a nice addon!
- Portal posts on the right side - nice!
What I dislike:
- yellow buttons (e.g. "quote")...much too distracting color!
- my eyes are getting tired by the font
All in all: The "old" style is very effectice and clean...the beta seems to be too colorful & distracting for me

Yeah, the flat grey reminds me of something from the 90s, which is no bueno. I also think it's way to cluttered at the moment, and they should concentrate on making it easy to use and more streamlined.
But it's still beta, and clearly unfinished, so i guess we'll just have to wait and see.
I don't like it so I switched back to XDA 2010. The 2013 theme seems like it was made in the early 2000s, with its cluttered UI and white/grey tone.
I like the idea, it's very modern, but it's too white. It kind of hurts my eyes after all the years looking at the other design haha.
didn't know it was out.
Will try and let you know
I like it, except for the device picture and specs in the root directory.
It looks nice, but every time I go to the root directory to switch between subforums, I have to scroll down to go to the sub forum I want to read.
I would guess 99% of the people that frequent these forums know the specs of the device they are reading about.
Hell I use the original one...the newer ones are too bright for my eyes.
Sent from my GT-N7000
Not too bad but needs more definition
In general the theme is pretty good but as others have mentioned it is very white.
In my opinion the pale nature makes it more difficult to seperate between the various elements of the page. This in turn makes it more difficult for the eye to quickly find the information that it is looking for ie the contents of each post.
I also agree that the page becomes difficult to read after a while due to the combination of the colours and the font/fontsize.
Cheers Roy
Not really a fan of the sidebar. Apart from that, looks clean. 7/10, would use.
