Hey, sorry if this is a really noob question, but I couldn't find an answer elsewhere.
Anyway, I have Rom Manager installed, my phone is rooted, I have granted SU permissions, and I've tried flashing all current and past versions of the recovery image, but when I press "Backup Current ROM" all it does is reboot my phone. No backup is made and no error pops up, just a simple reboot. Likewise if I select "Reboot into Recovery".
Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks
Try kouschs bootstrap recovery.. It always works flawlessly.

I tried it, but the same thing happens. Simple reboot. Never boots to the recovery screen. D: Help!
First you must choose "Bootstrap Recovery" using Koush's Droid X Bootstrapper app, then after it says "Success" you can then select "Reboot Recovery."
Yea I was scratchin my head but that sounds like the problem... Duh

Rom manager cannot install or backup on the Droid x because of the locked bootloader issue. You have to do things manually in cwm. Instructions have been posted already in this thread so I won't bother with those
Thanks
Thanks, I did do all those things and I had the same error. Fortunately, I did find a solution, though a very stupid one at that. I was running an auto mem killer and that was interfering with the process. Uninstalled and worked. Thanks!

I have both of these on Apex 1.0.2. My problem is I can not get ROM Manager to boot into Recovery by its self when doing backup and restore and such. Also the reboot into recovery button under ROM Manager doesn't do it either. I've tried doing it with and without hitting the bootstrap recovery button first. Sometimes it boots with the green droid and the progress bar that starts and then a warning triangle comes up and the phone reboots as normal.

Which ROM manager? FRM? other ROM managers aren't made to work with the D2 and similar devices because the devices have to be bootstrapped. If you want to get into recovery it's best to stick with koush's bootstrap only as the others will mess up the way it's setup and reboot into recovery that way. It hasn't done me wrong yet and I've had my phone since September and I've flashed a little bit of everything and I've never used a ROM manger (D2 is my first android phone so no need) they may be fine for downloading but installing is always best done with koush's bootstrap.
ROM Manager from the market does not work with the Droid 2. You need to use Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap.
I have koush's bootstrapper and koush's rom manager. Not even bootstrapper works to boot recovery. When click on boot recovery nothing happens

have you pressed bootstrap recovery and received the "success" toast (notification)?
Yeah, everytime I press it it says it.
And when im on rom manager and I press reboot into recovery it will boot show me a progress bar with the little android guy on it, it will go like a quarter of the way. Show me a triangle with an exclamation point inside the boot again normally

Like I posted before I've never used a ROM manager other than Fission ROM manager so I would try and uninstall the ROM manager and re-bootstrap because I think having two recoveries on there will mess each other up especially because the ROM manager has not been made for the D2 which has a locked bootloader. You might even have to sbf to get rid of the install of the ROM manger recovery I'm not sure. Take it in steps though don't try to do it all at once.
Thanks ill try it

Great! Bootstrap is all you need for install at least.
I am assuming this may be something simple to most but I can't figure it out.
In the rooted version of GB I just flat out can't get into CWR.
I have tried all different button combos at startup as well as the Reboot into recovery option in Rom Manager and just can't get there.
Suggestions?
Use the droid 2 bootstrap,i was having problems with the rom manager one too, the droid 2 bootstrap works fine

I wholeheartedly agree he is a great dev! And for that I have already donated a considerable amount of cash to his beer fund.

I'm sorry...I just had to comment because this made me laugh. I'm assuming you meant 'pay' but just the mere thought of having to party for an app made me chuckle. I'll party for apps all day lol.

Problem solved. Thanks everyone
I found out that if you turn off debugging on the phone the DX Bootstrap will work fine.
Phone Hangs on Motorola Logo
Hi folks,
I flashed a ROM through ROM Manager and told it to back up, wipe, etc... it went through all the steps... backed up the old ROM... installed the new one..
Now it hangs on Boot at the Motorola Logo. Won't go any further and the phone will not boot back into Clockwork Recovery. All that happens is the default Blue recovery panel comes up and only lets me select to flash update.zip.
This of course does not work and installation aborts.
Any ideas here?
Thanks,
Chris

When you get into stock recovery, perform a factory reset/wipe multiple times. It works the same as Clockwork on this aspect.
I have the same problem. Ron manager never got me into cwm. I can use bootstrap to get into cwm but it will only allow me to use the volume buttons. When I use the power button it will appear to work but all that happens is the screen flashes. I have Uninstalled Rom manager but I think I have to delete the cwm file for it to actually function. Anyone have some ideas.
Hi,
I have MT4G unlocked with S-OFF.
When I installed ROM Manager I get a message that it can be proceed to backup my phone, since it's not rooted.
If I have S-OFF, it doesn't mean that my phone in rooted?
When I open my device with power+L Volume I can't see the option that I can NANDORID or ROM Manager in the menu.
Please advice.
S-OFF means - the bootloader doesn't protect internal memory, and you can actually flash things.
Rooted means - you have root privileges in your OS.
Download Visionary APK, run it and select "temp root". You'll gain temporary root.
If you want to remain on stock OS - select "perm root" afterwards.
If you want to change the ROM anyway - just run ROM manager with temp root, flash the recovery, and go from there.
I apologize in advance and assure you im not trying to hijack your thread but I've tried this several times but can't get the recovery to start up once I reboot I just get the phone icon with the triangle and exclamation point and I've tried every method of rooting that is stickied in this forum!!

that means clockwork didn't either:
install at all
or install correctly
in either case, reinstall it.
Redownload ROM Manager if you have to first, then run it and install clockwork manager. If the program works it should list your phone, then hit it and it should say "Successful!"
source: me because it happened to me yesterday when I was flashing 2.3.4 GB rooted. Had to re-do ROM Manager
Hey guys I need some help here. I just rooted my droid x and installed the koush recovery as stated in the noobs guide to the droid x. i was able to boot into recovery and clear my data and cache and I installed Gingerale 3.0.
Well I cant get wifi tethering to work so I need to install a WUG's patch. Problem is, I cant seem to boot into koush's recovery anymore. I installed it again on the new rom and tapped bootstrap recovery and it said success. Then I tapped reboot recovery and my phone rebooted. The M came up then all I get is black screen with the backlight on. I have waited 15 minutes and same thing. I have to pull the battery and reboot. I can not for the life of me figure out why I cannot boot into clockwork.
I could use some help. Thanks.

Try downloading ROM Manager from the Market. Once you open it up click Flash Recovery and select Droid X. Now try to boot into recovery from ROM Manager.
Thanks for the reply. I have done as you said and still no dice. The phone reboots, the M comes up then screen goes black with the backlight on and thats it. Any other ideas?

You might have to sbf.
I had the same problem. I installed the droid 2 recovery and got out back finally....

I dont have a problem sbfing but I would hate to do that if its just going to happen again. A quick search on this forums brings up tons of results of people having the same issue and i have not been able to find a solution for it.
Any ideas?
Have you tried stock recovery? And you have d2 bootatrapper?

I have rooted with Z4root, and droid 2bootstrap. My question is why does phone when restarted always go into recovery?
First, what exactly did you root with z4. ?It only worked on Froyo, since this is a recent post I have to make sure your not on GB.
That being said, I have had your problem before, solved it by running the bootstrap again, esp if I just reflashed something.
Another thing though, don't bootstrap of your on a 2nd init rom. Just use recovery through rom manager.
