Anybody has the same problem for slow download speed for apps from Market over WiFi? My Captivate download speed is like 10x faster. A simple 40MB data takes more than 10 to 12 minutes
What is causing the slow download speed? I'm running 802.11n at 2.4 GHz both my captivate and Atrix 4G
Same issue, I've noticed it's because it goes back to cell data. If you look when you load the market, the arrows below H+ come back and start showing that you are transmitting.
Cell data always activates when you open the market. Pretty sure that's how it validates what apps to show you. Not Atrix-exclusive.
Oh is that what it is? I didn't know that.

Yeah, that's why if you put it in airplane mode, then connect through wifi, you will see more apps since the att ones won't be blocked.

I seem to operate a lot slower for all browsing when connected to wifi... the cell data is a lot faster...
Don't know why

i found the webtop to be pretty slow because of this as well. even over wifi i find the internet to be slower than my captivate

I have experienced that with such apps that disable data (i.e. quick settings), they potentially ruin your CDMA data speeds. I had to re-odin my Epic to get data back to normal. Well now that we have froyo beta's out there, I noticed the option to disable data network mode. Is it safe to do so without ruining your data?
I've used that option on this new Froyo about a million times without issue. I don't think it would hurt our phones since it's baked in by Samsung and not our devs here. If you have issues with it I'd be interested to hear about them but I say try it out because I've have zero problems. I'll do another speedtest tomorrow when I'm home in Minneapolis. I'm currently at my parent's and 3g is spotty and slow here.
Ah. Ok will do. I forgot this was a leak from samsung's Hq
My CDMA data speed has been destroyed and I've been trying to figure out why. I haven't been around wifi for a couple days and haven't been able to download a new rom to flash to try it. Any fixes other than odin?

What kind of down/ups are you getting with your destroyed/ruined data?

According to speedtest.net app, 13 kb/s. That's absolutely pathetic. I've seen faster dial up. I ran the test 3 times to be sure and I have 5 bars of reception. With wifi on it's 4+ mb/s.
Edit: flashed a new rom to see if that would fix it, and no luck. Looks like it's time for odin once I get access to a computer.

i use froyos 3g toggle all the time and i havent noticed a major difference. but i live up in the middle of nowhere in new hampshire and i'm experiencing faster 3G speeds and i only have 1 bar as of right now. just ran a speed test and got 102.4 kB/s. i would definitely say there's something wrong in your case, i just don't think it's the data toggle based on my own experience. However, I could be wrong.

Not sure if it's the data toggle or what, bit something is most definitely wrong with my data. I'm just going to odin the mew dk17 that was just posted. Makes life easy.

Weird...I've used quick settings and juicedefender on stock and baked snack and have never encountered a problem with data speeds. Have you tried updating to the latest quick settings?

but we're talking about froyo, not eclair. Baked snack is an eclair build and this is the first time I've encountered this kind of problem. I'm going to be home soon to odin my phone and I'll let you know the outcome.

Before you do that, try updating your prl and profile. That reset my speeds back to normal

Is anyone else getting REEEALLLY slow tethering speeds. Main reason why I purchased this phone. I came from a touch pro 2 that had 56k modem dial up speeds. And when I tether from this its even worse. The google home page is taking at least 10 seconds to load. Anyone else getting these type of speeds or what are your speeds? 3G and 4G? BTW I'm using wireless tether with temp root!

Easytether pro is what I'm using now. I got fed up with pdanet. This isn't wireless tethering. Barnacle was good too.
I get extremely slow speeds too.
Can someone else test there tethering to see if its slow too

I've had my x for about a week and a half now and am using the darkslide rom. I like it a lot but I am having a few issues. I don't know if it's related to the rom or something else.
First the wifi tether is slow. I get about .5 M on a good day. I used to tether on an htc hero and easily got triple with sprint. Also after tethering for ten minutes our so the data will just stop and I have to stop tether and restart to regain connection. I get 1.5M when I use the speed test app on my phone..
What is the deal with verizon visual voicemail? Do you have to pay for that? Just switched from sprint so I'm ignorant on that one.

And the signal strength indicator fluctuates from 1 bar to 4.

What app ate you using to tether with? I usually get 2.2 to 2.4 down. I do have issues with wireless tether losing connection when my screen goes into sleep mode sometimes but when I wake the screen my connection comes back up. Only happens occasionally. It seems to happen less with barnacle wifi tether.

I use WiFI tethering daily and I haven't seen a issue. I used to use the Wireless Tether App from Market and with that I did experience a couple dropouts and some slow speeds.... After I switched to the stock 3G Mobile WiFi App with Team Black Hats' patch I have had ZERO issues.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I'm using the wifi tether app from the market. I guess I'll do some searching to find out how to do the patch thing.
Thanks!

On average I get about 1.5mbps on my tether. Not to shabby I guess.
I never use tethering, but my connection is down, so I get setup and this blows. It's so slow, pages just time out and I keep getting intermittent DNS errors.
THIS is what people are all gaga over?

Are you tethering in an area where Sprint's 3g is slow?
Is there an area where it's not slow?
Btw, I tried wireless and USB tethering. Both sucked
Swyped From The Hippest Phone Using XDA Premium
All depends for me. Obviously it'll vary with area. I only break it out for the chromebook when I absolutely need it.

Plenty of areas.
Not here, apparently, but then everything here sucks

It must just be your area. I tether my EVO connection all the time and have no issues. I use it for browsing as well as playing games on xbox live and netflix. It works great.

Works perfectly fine here.

It "works" here...but it's something I use in a pinch. I got an overdrive to reduce my hassle factor. Same signal and it's far faster.
maybe im crazy but does wifi hotspot work with 4g? I swear my tethering is pretty damn fast when i turn on 4g...
Are all of yall paying for hotspot or is it the wifi tether and can u post speeds please on 4g

Hey hipkat...my wireless tether is almost twice as fast as my home WiFi. And my home WiFi is pretty damn fast....Works great for me.
You guys are lucky then, and today, I used USB tethering again, and damned if it didn't kill my WiFi... again.
I get a connection, but nothing will update, browser won't connect, etc. They all say no connection.
I'm not even sure how I fixed it yesterday. I think it just came back "on"

AKA: are you tethering anywhere in the us?

Are you using Windows 7? I had that problem with my moms computer (running win7) after I setup easytether for her. It didn't want to connect to WiFi. I have had no problems on my pc running Vista.

At home I average about 4-5mbps down, 1.0-1.5mbps up.

LOL
Either you're maxing on 4G or you're 'laxing' on the home internetz. Either way, many of us won't have 4G touching our home service.
As for speeds, and people saying 'it's fine here,' it all depends. Obviously area and coverage is going to dictate speeds. As stated, if Peoria sucks, well it sucks and it will be mirrored in your efforts to tether. You can't tether faster than your available speeds. Naturally.
I can get amazing speeds around campus but around home it's 'meh.' So, naturally, when tethering around school it's usually decent but around here it isn't. Make sense? Thank the good (raptor) lord for the WiFi.
It should be obvious that coverage and native speeds dictate your connection.
Anyone know where I can find tether drivers for XP? I tried the tetherxp.info from android.com but when I try to install them it says its not for my phone. IM using MIUI if it makes a difference.
Also plz no links to tether apps.

I get around 3-4MB/s using Airdroid, thats pretty slow since my laptop does 12MB/s. The phone is set to 5ghz, not sure if Airdroid is limited to G speeds since thats about how fast it goes, but my internet speedtest.net speed on the same server is half as fast as the laptop too.
If you have Airdroid I think the easiest way to test the speed is download a large file and see how fast its downloading rather than upload a file.
Using Speed test.net I got 26Mbps down, which would be maxing out my internet connection.

home network file transfer speed not internet speed
Using the 5ghz doesn't do anything faster. What it is is just another band to use. If you live in an apartment complex with 100 nearby WiFi signals, they are all most likely on 2.4. Things get congested. Switching to 5 helps out this.
