Did I really drop 10% in 13min? - Droid X General

Got up in the middle of the night opened Google Reader went thru a few articles and noticed the battery dropped by 10% in 13min (since unplugged). Is that normal? 79% or so was all screen.

Was it at 100% when you unplugged it? If it was then this is normal. The charger does not trickle charge. It gets to 100% then stops charging till it gets to 90% then it starts charging again

Yes it was 100% the **** you say... why doesn't it trickle charge?.. haven't had a phone that doesn't trickle charge. Is it the charger or the phone that stops the charge? The charger is just a USB cable. Even then 10% in 13min? how does that seem right? that's a lot of juice gone for 13min.

It is normal. I charge to 100% and drop 10% after a few minutes of use.

Yep, happens to the best of us.
Has anyone BESIDES the creator of the circle battery widget found the source of the 1% battery stats? He says there is a system file giving out this info.

probably didnt really drop 10% like they alluded to above.... it was probably really at 91 or 92, but sincec motorola didnt grace us with 1% reporting, you wouldnt have known....
my old htc android had 1% batt reporting, one thing i miss..

Yeah...same thing here. Always drops to 90% within like 30 minutes of taking it off the charger.

This really pisses me off...my wifes D2 Global is the same way. Atleast she got a rapid charger with hers. And her old Ally used to do 1% reporting

Has anyone else seen this? From 100 to 90% the power just drops almost instantaneously but after 90% its normal.
Already been brought up, a lot.
Apparently when your phone charges up it stops once it reaches ~100% and begins discharging, even though it is still on the charger. People will turn their phone off after a full charge and charge for an additional 20min to an hour before they get another green LED. People have reported much longer battery life when doing this, but it is a pain in the ass.

Ahh interesting. I thought I was running into an old winmo rom flashing issue where if you flashed under 50% battery life you could never charge the device above that point.
Yea it sucks but it works... I just ordered an external battery charger since I have 2 batteries now so I don't have to do this anymore

Hmm i tried and it acted the same way.
Apparently the HTC models act like older phones did back in the day. What HTC needs to do is put something on the phone face itself when new that says "CHARGE FOR 4 HOURS BEFORE INITIAL POWER ON FOR MAXIMUM BATTERY LIFE."
Once you do this once you dont have to keep doing it. I also powered on my phone the minute I got it and activated it without charging it first and I was seeing this issue until I did a power off charge. The phone runs from 6am to 11pm without an additional charge cycle in the day and that is a huge improvement for me. I was charging the phone twice to three times daily.

Battery overcharge ?

What happens if I leave my battery charging over night and I don't unplug the charger once my phone pops up the message telling me to do so. Will my battery overcharge and fail? Or its out safe to leave it plugged on once charging is done?

Your phone will be fine, there are fail safes in place to prevent over charge (and fire/explosion). Its just a "convenient" notification to let you know the phone is done charging.
On a separate but related issue, I don't suggest leaving it charge more than 10 hours at a time, since the battery keeps topping off the charge, and in my experience this degrades batteries a bit faster.

this.
Constant topping up will shorten the battery life. Not something to be annal about but don't do it too often. It also does not mean you have to fully drain your battery before charging, nor that you have to set an alarm so you take it off charge as soon as it read full.
Wait, so I should not charge my phone en route from work to home? About a 30 minute drive... not enough to fully charge the phone, just enough so it doesn't die before I go to bed.
I thought batteries did not have "memory" and that you could charge them however.... is there a good source to read?
Constant topping up will shorten battery life?
Care to back up that statement with some sources?
Heat kills Lithium based batteries.
A quick rate of charge or discharge creates heat.
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
(From the article)
The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible.
should be balanced with this (from the article as well)
batteries with fuel gauges exhibit what engineers refer to as "digital memory". Here is the reason: Short discharges with subsequent recharges do not provide the periodic calibration needed to synchronize the fuel gauge with the battery's state-of-charge. A deliberate full discharge and recharge every 30 charges corrects this problem.
My recommendation is to keep the battery as full as possible at all times and do a full calibration cycle once a month. Done.
If you want the battery to last longer stretch the calibration to once every two months... However the phone will be obsolete before noticeable shortening of the battery life from doing 30 day calibrations. PLUS THE BATTERY IS REPLACEABLE ANYWAY. So, honestly, who cares?

If your battery overcharges and fails, your battery is a danger to you and everyone around you anyway; no matter what charging methods you use. A properly working lithium ion battery cannot be overcharged.
I suggest reading up on how float charging works.

Is anyone else getting...

battery charged message at 95 or 97%?
defective battery?
Yeah me too. The only way I can get the battery to 100% is by using my spare battery charger. Trying to charge it in the phone always results in it maxxing out at like 96.

Yep..same here. I get it to charge to 100 by taking it off the charger for just a sec then putting it back on.

same. Usually 97%
Picked up a new charger, and it goes to 100% and beyond, and the LED light never turns blue!!!
Seems to charge faster, that extra .5A must be helping!
I mostly charge my phone when it's off and I always get 100%
Have you let your phone completely die yet. I had the same issue and really bad battery life (like 5 hours max). It helps to let the battery completely die every few days. Before I let it die the best I got was 97%. Now I get 100% all the time. Also my battery last closer to 10-12 hours, depending on use.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yes, mine stopped at 95. I tried charging, turn off phone, put on charger for an hour, then turn on, got to 97. Traded batteries the same.
However, one reading says 100, one says 97 - the batteries have issues is all I can figure out. Might be internal software.
Normal for lithium-ion batteries and modern chargers.

6 hours to recharge?

I recharged my Galaxy Tab 10.1 yesterday from a 15% remaining charge.
I powered it off and used the wall charger. It took almost 6 hours to charge to 100%!
Is this normal or is there something wrong with the battery?
Thanks!
Mine was slow at first too. But now seems to have gotten quicker.

The rating is 5V - 2A
Yep, noticed it took about 3 hrs to go 40% charging. Not sure why there is such a drastic difference from the Xoom which could charge from 10% to full in little over an hour with similar drain to GT.

Can you please quantify what quicker means?
We have a rather large battery in the device, while I agree 6 hours is abit much, it should be quicker at 2 amps.
On the other hand, I sit in on the charger at night before I go to bed. I am definately a heavy user as well, and the battery lasts me all day with atleast 30 to 40% left over by bed time (this includes a 1.5 hour commute each direction using Waze, the GPS, and wifi tethered to my phone, 2 gmail accounts polling every 15 min, web surfing throughout the day, and playing games during my morning and afternoon constitutions .. I know.. too much info)..
So I can live with a longer charge time, at least for now..
I charged my GT Tab completely before using it the first time. Then I drained it down to about 9%. I timed my first full charge from 9% to 100%, it took exactly 6 hours and 4 min. My Xoom charged in half the time. I am hoping it gets better like I have heard from different people.

i believe the xoom's charger is 16watts or more. i can't really remember, but it's got the highest rated charger b/t the xoom, tf, and gt10.1.
I think that's just wishful thinking on their part. How does a battery suddenly learn to charge itself faster. You make it sound like the battery is a muscle you can work out. The thing takes forever to charge but it also has excellent battery life. So as long as you don't find yourself in a hurry to travel without time to charge the battery should last you almost all day.

I charged the device fully before use. Used it down to 10%, plugged it in and charged to full powered off. This took around 6 hours. The second time I charged it from around 14-15% It took about 4 hours. I have charged it twice more since from almost zero, and it's taking about two hours.
Remember the math:
7000 mAh battery
2000 mAh charger
That means from drain to full if the screen is off, about 3-4 hours. If you have the screen or device on and it's doing anything, it's using some of that incoming charge, so will increase to 4, 5, 6 or more hours to fully charge.
Gets even worse if using an aftermarket charger, say a 800 mah or 1000 mah charger like the iPhone or Kindle charger...can then take 10-14 hours to fully charge, hehe.
It's funny how people say it charges quicker after a while, when that's not logical, you just don't notice it as much going from 65% to 100% as you noticed when it went from 15% to 100% the first time, hehe

Smaller battery=shorter charge, a 2 gallon gas tank is quick to charge too, hehe.... kidding.
But seriously, Samsung is bad with their charging. My Samsung Infuse and my Galaxy tab both take forever to charge.

Did I read it correctly that if recharged from almost 0 (e.g. <5%?), it takes only 2 hours to go to 100%? This seems counter intuitive.

[Q] Is my battery normal?

Yesterday when I woke up my G2 has 20% battery left, then I charge it to 80%. Then in the evening I charge it again 40%-80%. Then today I woke up again, (In the first SS)I'm just curious why is my "Usage in Battery" reaches 46 hours 29 minutes? It combines the usage on the other day and yesterday. "Expected time to use" is 61 hours, but I know it is not accurate because when I started playing games for like 10mins it goes down to 1hour left haha. And in the second SS, I'm assuming that it also combines the Screen time of the other day and yesterday.
a 20%-80%=60%
b 40%-80%=40%
c a + b = 100% I think it is 1 full cycle and should turn my battery Usage to 0 min again.
Is this normal? I don't really understand how G2's battery works.
I usually charge my G2 two times a day because of games. And charges it when it reaches below 40% to 80%. I don't really drain it and charge it to 100%. Am I doing it right?

But if the battery dies you can always replace it

And you'll damage your battery faster. Your approach was good for nickel based batteries, not good for lithium-ion.
This is the first link from Google search, there are many posts about it:

only if you charge it to 100%, then the statistic will starts a new one,

Then people who always post their SS of the usage on battery of their phone that are hitting 2-3 days are all just being boastful? haha
That's why I'm always curious about my battery info because it is not always accurate and people tend to believe that their "usage on battery" info are always correct. I'm not saying all, but there are so many.

Have never had issues with the batterys.

Thats the same if you don't drive your car, not to change your car battery......

One battery doesn't cost the world. There are service shops that can change it.
That link is a good read. Gonna try it from now on as this beast of a phone needs proper care as well :what:
