[Q] How to view large image files 100% zoom ? - HD2 General

Recently, I've been using my Leo to view scanned maps, large JPEG files 10 to 20 MB, something like 3000x5000 pixels or bigger. Of course, in order to see the full details, I need a 100 %zoom, that is - pixel to pixel. The problem is, no picture viewer or manager I tried, allows me too see those maps in full. Here are some problems :
1. HTC albums - the Zoom In function is limited to 50% or worse, there are a couple of threads here about that - none answered with a solution
2. Default Windows Mobile viewer goes to 100% from the Zoom Toolbar , but if I try to move in another portion of the image after a few moves, or after Zoom Out - it says "Cannot complete the requested action. Out of memory". In Task Manager I see Pictures & Videos is using maximum 10.5 MB of RAM (while I still have 250 Mb free). From there on, there nothing useful can be done with it, it keeps saying the "Out of memory ..."
3. Resco Photo Manager 7.10 - for large files it has the same limited Zoom In as HTC Albums, although in a more perverse way : the view is pixelated at 100% - which means is a fake 100%. In Task Manager I see Resco Photo Manager tries hard not to use more than ... 3 MB of RAM !!! There's no setting for the amount of RAM that can be used by the software ...
So the question is : is there a picture viewer who can take advantage of the great hardware of HD2 ?

I suspect that its due to the very large size of the files you are viewing a 10 or 20 mb file the phone needs much more space than that available to be able to view it - no different on a PC
at default its not viewing at 3000x5000 pixels more like 800 X 600

In Windows XP, I see the default Pictures and Videos Viewer (rundll32.exe) takes 210MB for a 20 MB jpeg file.
So there is enough room in HD2's memory. Maybe WinMo imposes a RAM limit on processes, like XP's limit of 1.5 GB, but much lower ...
Anyhow, I can't understand why the image viewer don't selectively load only the portion of the file displayed on screen ... if RAM is too low.
The conclusion is : no good image viewer under WinMo 6.5

Is there a set resolution or size the picture has to be so it can be clear in the box? Thanks!
i have the same question cause my pictures are distorted
My pictures are currently set to 2MP, there is no distortion in the pic whatsoever. The only problem is that it takes a while for the pictures to load up, i'm not sure if its because they are located on the storage card or because of the large resolution of the picture. Whats the resolution of the pictures you use???
I'm pretty sure that we can assume phonebook pics are saved onto the phone itself, not storage card... because if you take your storage card out, the pictures should still work.... plus that's built into the whole outlook/contacts part of the phone.
Whenever I'm cropping pictures I usually make them somewhere in the range of 150x150 - 200x200 or somewhere along those lines. It just depends... I haven't really sat there and thought about it too hard.
actually i do have the same problem. the pictures are shown very small and blurry this is even though the original pictures are pretty large and sizable...
is there any problem to customize the incoming call window anyway
my resolutions are SUPER high like 1600x1200 and its still blurry
yeh same here my pictures are 2mb in size from an 8 megapix camera soo i dont why its still blurry i tried puttin it in the phone insteead of the storage card but its still blurry
make the photos .png, I use that hand have very nice pictures
yeh no luck with the .png either
anyone care to post am image of a distorted image...
what do youll use to get a screen shot sorry iam new at this???
I actually think your images may be too large, you are using 2mp images with a very high res and then squeezing them down to a very small part of a 240x320 screen, try resizing your pictures down to say 200x200 or somthing like 120x160, this will also make them much smaller and save mem, and load much faster ...
all my contact pictures, for the dialer are like 240x240 and they all look fine ...
Using a 2mp image on a 240x320 screen is just going to wast your memory anyway ....

it doesn't really eat the memory, only uses .1mb to access but the main problem is that it takes a while to load up the pics, and they only load one at a time. will try the resize
As for taking a pic of the screen
http://www.pocketpccity.com/software/pocketpc/graphics-screencapture-datesort-1.html
True it does not waste memory, unless you are not storing the pics on a storage card, then it just eats storage memory for the large pic, but storing pics that big in main mem, would just be silly anyay ...
yeh i tried resizing it still blurr....
"update"
ok finally got it after I installed pocketcm the pictures cleared up thanks guys for ur help
its not really a matter of picture size, what i found is that is actually a problem with the orientation of the picture.
when the phone is in normal view, HTC home screen crops the picture, very baddly. the picture gets a square ratio, but when HTC home screen is in the landscape orientation, the same blurry pictures now look perfect. what i've done is to change all my pictures to have a square ratio or atleast a vertical 4:3 ratio
my 2 cents
how does pocketcm work? helps a lot?
The Answer
The Answer to the original question is to use the 'Change Picture' from the Menu Button on TouchFlo 3D. For some reason, chaning the picture in either Pocket Outlook or Desktop Outlook distorts the picture and doesn't keep the resolution. I hope that this can solve the thread.
Edit - Sorry if I sound smug but this post was first on my google search but I didn't find the answer for another 2 hours!!! I reckoned this would stop others from having to hunt.

No Pictures on opera

how come when i go into www.seriouswheels.com and click on any car picture. i click on the link that makes it larger for instance this picture:
http://seriouswheels.com/2009/def/2...gier-Limited-Edition-Rear-Wheel-1920x1440.htm
the enlarged picture does not show up on opera. why is this. i want to see this picture and save it. as i cannot see the picture i cannot save it. please help.
thank you
I've got the same problem that some larger images do not show.
I got the same issue. I resolved it by adjusting the value of Browser Buffer Width in opera.ini . I used a width of 1650, but if the picture on the page you want to see has a higher width you will need to increase it more.
Disregard my previous post, it doesn't help in any way. I thought it does, but after some more testing I found that it doesn't. The only partial solution is soft-reseting your device to clear allocated memory for opera. Once you fill it again, you'll have to restart it all over again to see the images in opera. Though it seems to store the images in the cache folder, even if opera doesn't display them, so you can figure out by size and date which one it is, rename it with the correct extension and voila. Sure it's not confortable, but it saves you from restarting the device. I also tried fiddling with the cache settings, but none of them seems to increase the amount of allocated memory for opera mobile. And I also didn' find any way to clear the memory without restarting. Maybe someone can help more.

My Device Storage space issue, **SOLVED**

In an earlier thread of mine about my Device Storage (Lack Of). I want to share with you all, especially as this issue appears to be a common theme running through the forum, how I came about resolving mine.
I suddenly came to a situation whereby my phone was showing 0.00mb of Free Device Memory, annoying popup messages, not being able to install anything to the phone etc. Even though, since getting the phone, I'd installed virtually everything to SD card. I totally could not understand it?
I know I'm running the crappy UK o2 1.43 ROM, but surely this wasn't entirely to blame? One of these days I'll pluck up the courage to update the ROM. Bad memories on this score with my old Omnia i900.....!
Turns out that after downloading & viewing several youtube videos over a period of time and which I thought I'd deleted after viewing, were in fact being stored in a folder on the phone, thus taking up my valuable device memory.
If anyone views online videos then it might be worth trying this.
Launch File Explorer and navigate to: Windows>>Opera 9>>Profile>>Download. I had approaching over 100mb of valuable device storage space stored in this file. After deleting these video files I now have 119+mb of free device storage space. No more annoying pop up messages!
I'm not saying this is a fix for everyone who has device memory issues, but its worth checking out, especially if you view on-line vids.
Just wondered if this had helped anyone?
I watched few youtube vids as well and my storage is 0.00. It had ~15 MB of stuff, but no youtube vids, deleted, thanks.
I'm doing a bit of "spring cleaning" myself, and have just freed up a bit of extra space. I was just wondering how you managed to get youtube videos in an Opera 9 download folder? (I'm just about to check that folder myself)
Speaking of youtube, where are the vids stored, if I watch them through that HTC app?

This is a mystery to me as well. All I know is that when I select a youtube video online the video player that HD2 uses (not sure what this player is, it certainly isn't WMP?) then gives me three options, which are: Open, Save & Cancel. I always select open. I then have to wait maybe 2 or 3 mins until a green download bar has reached 100%, this signifies that the video has been downloaded. I'm then able to view the video. After viewing I select an icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. This gives me a further 2 options, which are: Delete & Remove All Completed. I select delete.
There must have been occasions where I haven't selected delete, or forgotten to, and these are the videos I found being stored in the Download folder within Opera 9.
With my old Omnia i900 when I selected a video to view, WMP immediately opened up and began buffering the video. I would maybe have to wait, at the most, 10 seconds for the video to buffer. I was then able to view the video. I certainly didn't have to actually download the video as I appear to be doing now. I would much rather be using WMP as the viewing time is much quicker. I don't want to use the player the HD2 seems to use by default. But how do I get videos to play through WMP?
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Help on this much appreciated.
Yes I am also facing problem with memory. When I try to watch any youtube video through the HTC application I get the message ' memory is full' I donot have a folder called download within the opera folder.

[Q] A Different Kind of File Corruption!

I would love to find out what could cause the following:
I bought my SGS when I was on holiday in the UK, and I used it to take a few dozen photos.
I used the highest resolution setting which gives a file size of approx 1.5MB for each jpg.
After backing them up on the 'external SD card' , I copied them to my wife's laptop, where she noticed that some of them were really low resolution.
So I checked the file sizes on my Galaxy S, and I was amazed to find that about half of the files were not the expected size.
I selected the option to list them by order of size - the first 20 or so files went from 17KB, 20KB, 35KB, 100KB, 340KB etc... then the remaining 30 or 40 files were all the correct file size, i.e. 1.4MB to 1.5MB.
None of the photos had anything missing regarding the subject, but they were just lower resolution, as though they had been somehow resampled to a smaller number of pixels.
If anyone has any idea as to how they could get corrupted like this, I would love to know.

Cropped screenshots dont show on windows anymore after S8 Oreo Update. Details inside

Hello, so before I updated to Oreo, I was able to take cropped screenshots just fine on my phone and they would display properly under windows photo viewer.
Now that I updated to Oreo, I can still take the cropped screenshots on my phone, transfer them to the PC and they still show up as thumbnails fine. But when you go to open a cropped image, it displays "windows photo viewer cant display this picture because there may not be enough memory available on your computer. Close programs you arent using or free up disk space" . Except I have 12+ GB free of RAM and TB's of space left. The cropped photos show up fine in other viewing programs also such as the windows 10 "photos" viewer.
Regular screenshotted photos show fine, it's just when cropped natively on the phone. All details are the same when viewing more details under the tab, except for the height and width.
Anyone else have this issue since oreo or on the PC? Nothing else has changed except the phone update.
Attched is an example. The cropped version will give the error.
